A-1 Smog & Repair Center

I had my smog check done (yay, it passed!) and was out the door in less than 30 minutes. I arrived by 8:30 to receive their $ 3.00 discount, making the total $ 41.50. Had I gone to my auto dealer, the price would have been $ 60.00, without the State Emissions Certificate, Electronic Transfer Fee or ‘Other Charges’. Zach, the owner’s son at A-​1, is personable and efficient, contributing to my stress-​free visit. Thank you, A-​1, for making my time with you most enjoyable!

Very helpful personnel — –they were very professional and knowledgable regarding my older vehicle. I have been taking all my cars to A=1 for 20 years and they always do a great job. I usually wait about 30 minutes — -they have a customer lounge with TV – free coffee — snack machines – clean rest rooms!

They were friendly, quick and fairly priced. Waited less than 30 minutes.
There was an elderly gentleman getting some work done on his car and the owner offered him a ride home. I thought it was a great way for him to go above and beyond. I will definitely be a returning customer.

So I came to A1 today because my car that had previously passed smog had just been failed due to the visual inspection element of the test. I took it to A1 as a second opinion. I was able to speak to Brent there and Lillian they were both pleasant and friendly. We came in late in the day and were seen within 15 minutes. They talked to you immediately and smiled through the whole process. Out by 5:30 p.m. with a passing smog. I’m a happy camper! And I would recommend A1 smog to everyone!!!

I’m giving 5 stars just to counteract Darren H’s review. Lol. Seriously though, I have been getting my cars smog inspected here for a long time and have always had fast and friendly service. It’s always been less than :30 minutes for me.

I always smog here. I usually go early Monday morning and the wait isn’t very long. I haven’t read the other reviews. I was a little surprised by only three stars.

RUDE!!! I wouldn’t recommend this place if every other smog shop was closed. The receptionist was beyond rude. She came out to evaluate the car and LAUGHED at the year of the car, stating it would take over an hour for a smog. Mind you, they are open till 6pm and we were there at 5pm. Terrible customer service! We will gladly take our business elsewhere!!!

I took my wife’s car there to have a smog done. I had just had it to a referee to see if it would pass. They said everything was good to go. I get to a-​1 and they inform me that my gas cap failed. If a Ref. passes it in a pre smog then how do they fail a gas cap. When I told this to the secretary she said, «If you don’t buy the gas cap then we can just fail the test.» So in a sense they hold you hostage because if you fail you have to pay for the retest to pass. So BULLY tactics to make an extra buck. Never again A-​1 and I will make sure everyone I know is informed of your tactics.

If you want to be subjected to Fox «News» for hours while you wait on your smog test, then this is the place to go. No self respecting business should impose such batshittery and dumbassery on their customers. I am officially dumber for having sat there. So sad, because they come off as nice people.

Do not use this organization for your smog needs. They will try to get more money out of you. Their customer service is horrid. You will wait forever as the staff doesn’t have a clue what they are doing. You can find several better options in the area.

OK I took the time to write a review but it, somehow, vanished so here I go again…
I have used A-​1 Smog for a long time (over a decade + -) I watched it change ownership to the current owner, the previous owner was a used car salesman too. Anyway, A-​1 has always treated me right. Fair price with the Early Bird Special, and quick service. They have not tried to up sell me with unnecessary repairs or services.
Friendly people and professional attitudes and service. If you have a junk and it fails, it’s not their fault. I see unhappy people complaining here but there are always going to be people blaming others unfairly.
Anytime we need a smog check, or service on a vehicle, it is a scary endeavor at best, however, knowing that A-​1 will treat me fair and honest, as they always have, is a really big relief. The FREE coffee could be better… just kidding.
This is why I use and trust A-​1 smog on Bechelli. I don’t know how the other location on Market street is.

If I wanted to have some snotty 21 year old treat me like crap and talk to people behind me before finishing her sentence to me, I would go to Wet Seal. The wait time was horrendous, the staff rude and unprofessional, and i don’t know much about smogs but it seemed like it was really high priced. The smog went fine itself, but sitting in a dingy waiting room full of posters and printouts basically screaming at customers to just be patient, they were going as fast as they could, and they refused to take any responsibility for the wait time or manners of staff. I am sure the fliers were worded much more eloquently than that, but trust me, that is the gist of what they were saying. I will be seeking out a new location next time I need a smog.

I have been having our autos and trucks serviced at A1 Smog on Bechelli Ln. for five and half years. Brent and Deena have always taken EXCELLENT care of me and my vehicles. I live in Cottonwood and it is worth the drive to get this EXCELLENT sevice.

i mailed in my registration for my 2006 mini-​van in july — due in august. receieved letter from dmv that i needed a smog certificate. ok — where to go — well around the corner is A-​1 Smog on bechelli and they have an early bird discount. got there and within 20 minutes was done and out the door. i’ve seen bad reviews for this location — but i had a good experience. they were quick and sent the info into dmv and bingo bango my stickers arrived. did not have any contact with anyone except the front desk. i did notice that the mechanics dont smile much — but it was early and maybe they hadnt had their coffee yet. will go back until i have a back experience — its practically around the block.

I am stunned by the other reviews, it is almost like we visited different places. First thing I noticed while I was in line to sign in was how friendly the staff was. It was like they were doing a video on customer service. I saw them take their time with each customer and never once get cross. I had questions about my AC and the owner walked right out to my car and looked at it. He was so knowledgeable, gave me lots of info, and suggested I make an appt to get it evaluated. He was never pushy or tried to get me to book right then. He also gave me estimates of what he thought it might be so I would know what I might be looking at. I was not charged for anything but the smog certificate that I came in for. When I left everyone said goodbye and used my first name like we were at a Boston Bar or something. I am so excited to have a place like this to go to! Thank you so much for all your help today!

— Had to wait at least one hour to get started — despite having an appointment.
— They flunked the car from being smogged because of ‘visible smoke’ even though the computer read-​out was just fine. We did not see any smoke.
— When we took the car to a different smog station, it passed right away with no issues. Draw your own conclusions about why someone would want to flunk a car for no reason.

The first part of this review has almost nothing to do with the number of stars. While I was waiting for almost an hour for my smog job to get done, I had my laptop and my mobile phone out, getting my work on in the waiting room that I was sharing with three dudes who looked like your typical local 55-​year-​old tweakers on disability (skinny, twitchy, pocky, Fu Manchu facial hair, stringy greasy mullets, fake limps).
The receptionist calls my name, I settle up and leave. Ten minutes later I realize that my Android is missing. I call A-​1 when I get to my office and they say they don’t have it. So I spend the rest of the effing morning calling and texting my phone every 15 minutes. The texts offer a reward for return of the phone — I just know Verizon will savage me without mercy for a replacement phone, just because they can. Over the course of 3+ hours, nobody answers the phone even though it’s ringing before going to voicemail, so I know it’s turned on.
I tell TL what’s going on. She texts my phone: «This phone has a GPS locator, which I’m activating. Please return it to the smog shop before I have to send someone after it.»
About 10 minutes after that, A-​1 calls me to say that the phone has been turned in by one of the tweakers who was in the waiting room with me. Dude must not have wanted to deal with the possibility that lifting a phone might be a parole violation. Dude must not have known that the GPS locator (a real app called «Where’s My ‘Droid?» that emails you its location) is only going to get me within 100 feet or so… and then what? Knock on every door within 100 feet? Go postal on everyone within that distance?
As for the smog service itself, maybe three stars for going through the motions. They do their certification thing and about 45 minutes later you’re about $ 45 poorer.
One star off, however, because my buddy told me that the owner is a regular at the local Tea Party meetings. Let’s see… a guy who hates the guvvymint and guvvymint regulations, ‘specially them envi-​ruh-​mennal reg-​uh-​lations.
Hates ‘em all except for the guvvymint’s envi-​ruh-​mennal reg-​uh-​lation that gives his business, A-​1 Smog, its sole reason to exist. The guvvymint reg-​uh-​lation that feathers his nest. He likes THAT envi-​ruh-​mennal reg-​uh-​lation jess fine. Jeeeesss fine.
He reminds me of all of the local retiree Tea Partiers who rabidly oppose Obama an’ his comm’nist/fascist socialism…‘cept don’t you DARE suggest messin’ with their Social Security or Medicare or VA socialist program benefits, goddamnit, or them ol’ boys git REAL testy.

What a nightmare! I made an appointment for 3pm and they said no problem. I explained that I wanted to get to the dmv by 5pm (their closing time) to get my sticker after the smog because I was planning to drive to Seattle that night.
When I showed up, the lady behind the counter acted like she could care less about me or my car. The guys in the garage were obviously bored to tears and thought that standing around was productive. 90 minutes after my appointment they finally look at my van. The guy doing the smog was painfully slow, moving like the air was made out of molasses. He also kept missing the smog machine with my van, falling off, literally, of the side of it. It took him 3 tries to get it on to the machine.
Then he decides to stand around for awhile, literally stands there! I ask him to please hurry I need to get to the DMV, he says «these things take time» and DOES NOT MOVE! Very passive aggressive.
I go inside, talk to the receptionist. She is full of excuses. I am blowing fuses by now. Car passed smog at 5:15 and I heard a new squealing noise coming from my engine. I asked them to look at it for crissakes and the response was «the mechanics went home.»
They also charged me $ 76 for a smog.
Finally, when I asked the receptionist if I could come back in the morning to get the car looked at for this new issue, she literally ignored me. I had enough and left.
Shame on this place. Take your vehicle there at your peril. They are beyond aggressive with horrible attitudes and could care less about their customers.
I have been to some bad auto places in my time but they take the cake… and the frosting.
Needless to say, I didn’t get to leave on my trip, must go to the DMV in the morning instead, and now have to find someone else to look at my car. Heaven help them if it turns out they caused it!
In summary: STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE at all cost!

…I have used them since 1993 and did see a dip in their happy factor around 2004 – 2008.
Just short tempered, cranky underpaid staff, overworked staff doing the same damn thing over and over and over again.
Well, I got one of my biannual smogs done and the lady was really nice, looks like she was training one of the sons of the owner? I am not sure. She told me 45 mins. I took a walk over to Raley’s for breakfast. Came back at 45 and it was just rolling inside. Only took 30 mins after that. I got the 4.00 off for coming in between 7am-8:30am. So, I only paid 37.00. I am sure there are cheaper places.
About 1995 I had a POS car and one of the guys fixed something free of charge to help it pass smog. I have been pretty faithful since. I think it was a broken vacuum tube, whatever that is… lol.
