What’s not to love about Tucker Oaks Golf Course, a small inexpensive 9 hole course off Churn Creek Road near Airport Road. A round of golf with a cart for 25 bucks is not too bad. The restaurant and bar are in a circa 50’s building across from the pro shop. My first impression of the bar is an older, no frills, golf course dive bar. The restaurant had a dozen or so tables and a small doorway into the bar. The bar had a very nice selection of beers on tap, and fairly reasonable prices. They also had a decent selection of bottled beers, and a full bar with name brand spirits. The décor was circa 60’s and 70’s, which is okay with me. We waited at our table for about 15 minutes wanting to order a cold beer after a round of golf. Luckily, one of the«regulars» at the bar saw us sitting there, felt sorry for us, and jumped behind the bar and opened the tap giving us a couple of ice cold beers. About another 10 minutes or so later, we saw the first employee of the place. I asked if we could order some food, and was told«hold on for a few minutes, I need to catch up here at the bar.» No problem, I am super patient, and super hungry, plus I have a cold beer now, so life is not that bad for the moment. A bit later, the same employee showed up and we ordered a sandwich, fries, and a salad from the menu. The bar tender /waitress /cook, advised us that she was not making salads today, so sandwich and fries it is. After the order, the food did come out super quick. The sandwich(Turkey, Bacon, Cheese) was very good, I would give it a letter grade of a «B», the fries were cooked perfectly, not too soggy, not super greasy, and thick cut quality potatoes. I would give the fries an «A» grade. I am easily able to look past the dated décor, and the divey feel of the place, but to have 15+ people in the place with one employee is just not fair to her, and service is everything in the service industry. Get some help, fix up the place, and your sailing into the 4 star territory. The cold beer, fries, and friendly jack of all trades employee saved the experience/review for me.

My friend & I had never eaten at the Sand Trap before although we’d driven-by a million times in the past. Our friends recommended it too, but I was always just passing thru, so yesterday after we visited Gold Leaf Nursery, we decided to pop in for lunch. To our delight and surprise we discovered they served breakfast all day! My friend ordered the bacon cheese & avocado omelet with hash browns and said it was delicious. The eggs were moist and bacon thick and meaty. My bacon cheese hamburger was cooked perfectly, slightly pink as I like it, and very juicy. The patty was huge, and kept its size to match the soft thick bun. Service; napkins, utensils were a little slow to come. But when we discovered that Kim our server was on her own, acting as hostess, filling phone orders, cooking EVERYTHING herself and also serving food to customers in the bar. Well, I certainly couldn’t ding the Sand Pit for slow service after that inside knowledge! That’s why the Sand Trap Restaurant at Tucker Oaks Golf Club gets 5 Stars in my review(plus their prices are very reasonable). I Almost forgot, the fries were yummy, big hot(non-greasy) ‘taters, and someone also made the best German Potato Salad I’ve tasted in years. Thank-you Kim for a very nice meal, you made our day-:)

Well I believe it’s the best burger and fries in the Redding area. When ever I just get done golfing or I just want a great lunch where it’s peaceful or just out taking a Harley ride with my girl. It’s the best around for lunch.

I just took my wife to The Sand Trap restaurant for Valentines dinner. After waiting for 20 minutes for someone to even recognize us at our table, which we NEVER received, we left. I attempted to get a male servers attention on 5 different occasions, of which EVERYONE in the restaurant noticed except for him who casually ignored me and all my attempts. There were 2 female servers as well who I attempted to ask for menus, silverware, even water. Each time, I was ignored. I was thoroughly embarrassed, offended, & vowed right there to make sure that I made an attempt so no one else was put into the same place as I was. It was Valentines Day 2015, however they were not overly busy at the time. In fact there were several tables that were empty. I now understand why. If I could rate them with a NEGATIVE number, I would!!! Do yourself a favor & don’t bother even making an attempt… They sure don’t!!!

I had a smoked salmon BLT and it was heaven sent if you like salmon! If not I’ve had the French Dip which is also wonderful and less expensive then De Ja-Vu who’s décor is questionable. I heard they remodeled so I might retract that statement later but either way I Love this place and you don’t have to gold to eat here! Also their Alfredo’s sensational:)

Had dinner with 10 friends Tuesday night October 4, 2011. Not one complaint. Fun place. Great food. Cheap drinks. Something on the menu for everyone(in our group).

The Sand Trap is located at Tucker Oaks Golf Course. The restaurant is very small and sort of a dive, but quaint, and something you’d expect to see at a older, public, 9-hole course as is Tucker Oaks. You can eat indoors our outside, and there is a bar located in an adjacent room. Although I have heard their menu is good, we specifically went there to experience the breakfast buffet. Redding, CA restaurants and hotels used to feature some pretty amazing breakfast buffets, but most of them have went by the wayside. After passing a sign advertising the Sunday breakfast buffet for the Sand Trap, I decided to take my sons in and try it out. A little to my surprise, it turned out to be 5 buffet trays with lids at the back of the room on a table with no clear direction on whether to seat yourself or otherwise. Once we realized where to go and what to do, we started plating food. As you would imagine, the buffet trays contained scrambled eggs, diced potatoes, bacon, sausage patties, ham, biscuits, gravy, french toast, and pancakes. Between the three of us, we tried everything and enjoyed the food. Although nothing here will knock your socks off, it’s nice for anyone looking for a decent meal where they can serve there own proportions. We were given complimentary ice water and orange juice with the meal as well. In the end, for 1 adult and 2 children, we ate for under $ 20. A good deal, especially for extra hungry folks who will make extra trips to the buffet line. Although the dining areas were less than half full, there only seemed to be one waitress working. Each facet of the meal from seating to paying seemed to take a little longer than it should, but our waitress was very nice and helpful on her rounds. If you’re looking for a high profile restaurant, this is not the place — but if you’re looking for a good, down-home feeling location with some decent grub — then the Sand Trap is a nice option.
