Update — stopped here for lunch after a long medical procedure, so I was famished. First, the cup of chili wasn’t very good, if not from a can then several days old. Patty melt was good size, but was burned. If I hadn’t been so hungry, I wouldn’t have eaten it. Onion rings from a bag, little if any flavor, left half of them. Small salad was fine, best part of the meal. Just under $ 16 for the above. Sorry Hefty“s, you’re really slipping. Won’t be back to unless it’s breakfast.

Was expecting better from a Coney Island that’s «legendary.» The food was mediocre. The seasoning on the fries was ok. Waitress didn’t even refill my water and was kind of rude. Next time I’ll just go to Redford grill.

Seriously, go here and order one of their hot dogs. My order took a little longer than expected, but when it came out, I was blown away. I’ve never seen so many toppings on a single hot dog! They have a pretty good variety of dogs, too, as well as a whole menu of other foods I have yet to try. I’ll definitely be back!

This was one of my husbands favorite breakfast places, until he introduced me to it. Now it is one of my favorite places too. I really try to eat healthy, so I don’t eat a lot of simple carbs, BUT, they serve Cinnamon Roll French toast which is awesome. That’s what I had today, that plus a side of turkey sausage. I didn’t give it a full five star because to me the syrup lacked sweetness. it was sticky and all(so I guess not watered down) but it wasn’t sweet at all. I didn’t say anything to the waitress about it. My husband had a veggie omelet made with egg whites and blueberry pancakes, both of which he said were awesome. But he too thought the syrup wasn’t too sweet. But then he doesn’t use a lot of syrup, just a dot here and there, where I am drowning my pancakes or whatever in it. Hefty’s is still worth a try. I don’t think that you’ll be disappointed. Oh yeah, sometimes the menu doesn’t show the cinnamon roll French toast, but ask anyway, the might have it as a special.

Good breakfast great waitstaff. Pretty quick too. I like the number 1 for breakfast. Coneys for lunch. Normal coney fare.

I am in love with the seasoning that they put on the french fries. It is not salty and has a bit of a sweet taste. The staff has always been friendly and gotten my order right. I never go wrong with the grilled chicken salad. The large is enough for two meals. The small is a good lunch size for $ 5.99 and comes with pita bread. Usually I can pick up lunch within 15 mins. of calling in. Breakfast offers specials in the morning and I can order an omelet all day. Sometimes breakfast for lunch is the best. Veggie, meat filled, and Mexican omelets are available and come with a heaping amount of hash browns for $ 1 extra. I opt for the toast and jelly that comes with it normally. Tip: Coney Day is Wednesdays! $ 0.99 each(no limit)

My dad grew up here, but this is only the second time or so I’ve been. But, this is a nice place for some good food. I had the fish sandwich which was great! i love having tomato and lettuce on my sandwiches. Parents got coneys with fries and onion rings, all of which were very good. Im not a huge coney fan, but sometimes it just hits the spot. Staff was friendly and interior was clean(though it could use some updating). If you’re in the area, you should stop in!

I know, I know… I should reserve the 5-star rating for the best of the best, which traditionally doesn’t include coney islands. But wow. I have lived around the corner from Heftys for a while now, and just never bothered to stop in. It wasn’t that I hadn’t noticed the place… there is a giant coney dog statue on the roof! But Heftys never seemed to be opened when I drove by(usually at night… now I know that Heftys closes markedly earlier than your standard coney island). An expatriot friend was home for the holidays, and we felt it fitting to visit a place we had never been before. Inside, the décor is like an oldschool diner. And we were wowed by the menu. For coney dogs, they have all the old standbys, but after seeing the list of specialty dogs(all of which were less than $ 5), we couldn’t resist trying them. A few standouts include a bacon-wrapped, deep-fried dog, the«Hobo» dog which is topped with baked beans(the waitress told us, «Don’t fear the Hobo Dog!») which my friend really enjoyed, and dog loaded with chili, onions, bacon, mustard, and smothered with deep-fried hashbrowns. My fiancé and I both tried this one… and it was amazing. First, it was huge– you couldn’t see the the hotdog or even the bun under the mountain of crispy potatos. Second, if sloppy coney dogs that require silverware is your thing(it certainly is mine), this gutbuster combination of bacon, chili, and potatoes on a hotdog is perfect. As this was our first time eating here, we didn’t know what kind of portions we were in for. We all made the mistake of ordering chili cheese fries on the side– and all three of us ended up taking at least half of them home. My fiancé made the additional mistake of ordering a second coney dog… which was also taken home for dinner. My fiancé and I agreed that living near Heftys is dangerous. If it weren’t for their hours, we would probably eat there every night we both work late and feel too lazy to cook for ourselves. Bottom line Food: delicious Portions: generous Prices: cheap Décor: retro

My husband & I have been going to Hefty’s for years. Hefty’s definitely has a regular crowd. The owner & staff are always super friendly and provide great service. I’ve never had anything bad off of the menu. We usually visit Hefty’s for breakfast, but we have gone for lunch & dinner. They have great omlettes, and hash browns. They put the seasoning for the fries on our hash browns, and makes them even better. Their salads are huge, and plates are full. Hefty’s isn’t your typical Coney Island when it comes to hours of operation. It’s not open late any day of the week. I think they close at 8pm on weekdays, and 3pm on Sundays.
