I had high hopes for this restaurant but it ended up being one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had and I can’t stop thinking about how bad it was which is why I am sharing my experience. I came in on 1⁄24 for brunch with my 3 yr old son and husband and another couple with their 4 year old daughter. We were the only table in the restaurant at 10am. The waiter took a while to warm up to us and he told us that brunch was a new thing for them(hence the empty restaurant). I ordered the gluten free french toast, my husband ordered the eggs Benedict and a coffee, and my son had two eggs scrambled. When my plate came out, I couldn’t identify what had been served to me. It was 3 or 4 gray blobs and a side of shredded potatoes. It wasn’t visually appealing, I would be embarrassed to serve this to my family at home, and it tasted horrible. It was chewy and bland and tasted like dough. I couldn’t eat it. Even the side of shredded potatoes was under cooked and over salted. Later, the other adults with me expressed disappointment with the food they were served. In addition to the terrible food 1. the waiter forgot my husband’s meal and blamed the chef, 2. my friend ordered a glass of fresh juice that cost $ 6 and came in an extremely small glass — I know that there was a lot more juice that could have been served because I took my son over to the machine to watch the waiter make it and he gave the remainder of the juice to my son in a paper cup… it was about a cup worth of juice so why not just give the patron who ordered the full amount of juice that was squeezed? 3. my french toast, the benedict, two scrambled eggs and 1 cup of coffee cost us over $ 50 with 20% gratuity added to the bill(even after forgetting my husband’s meal). The kicker to all of this is that as we got up to leave another couple walked in. The waiter pointed them to a table where two glasses of water and a small plate of sweet potato hummus and crackers had been sitting since we first arrived. The couple said, «it looks like someone else is sitting here» and the waiter said, «No, I saw you roll up and set the table for you» — what the hell? I couldn’t believe I just heard this flat out lie. I walked outside and I was fuming. I was thinking of going back in to tell the couple that they were being deceived but they had already walked out so they must have drawn their own conclusion. Based on other reviews, I probably went to Hugos for the wrong meal, but I will never go back. We eat out a lot and spending $ 50+ for my family at breakfast is not uncommon but we usually leave feeling satisfied with our meal or at least happy with the service or a mimosa tacked on… but this was just all around bad and I’ll never forget how the waiter told a bold face lie… for what, to avoid bringing out some water and a fresh appetizer plate? Despicable.

We love coming here! It is a bit on the spendy side, however if you have food allergies/sensitivities– or are paleo/whole30, it is perfect.

As Portlanders who are vegan and soy-free, we were very excited to try Hugo’s since it’s close to our friends in Redmond. We went for brunch on a Sunday, we ordered the vegan french toast, vegan portobello french dip, and kids spaghetti with red sauce. Our friends ordered the french toast and eggs Benedict. The service was ok but the food was horrible. For the price you are paying, I am completely astounded by how horrible the GF vegan bread was. We have excellent GF vegan breads here in Portland, there is no reason their bread should be so terrible. When you bring out«french toast» and it looks like country fried steak bc its covered and smothered in a sauce, don’t call it french toast. The kids spaghetti was fine, but there was hardly any sauce and at $ 10, absolutely not worth the price. The french dip was again a miss, mainly bc of the bread but also bc the au jus was overly sweet. I can understand adding a gratuity to a party of 6 or more(we were four adults and two children), but when your cook forgets to make the eggs benedict and everyone is halfway done their meal before the lone person’s benedict is ready, you should SERIOUSLY consider not adding insult to injury. We would have likely still tipped 20%, bc hey, accidents happen and the waiter was fine, but to tack it on when the meal has hiccups isn’t a good policy. Overall: totally not worth the inflated price for very underwhelming food. We will go back to driving into Seattle to get good food.

Five out of five stars! One of the best restaurants on the East Side! I’ve eaten there many times. I bring my out-of-town guests here. This restaurant in Redmond has fantastic food. The BEST rib eye steak I’ve ever eaten! I like the one without extra sauces-Port wine($ 39). The lamb shank($ 30) was the best lamb I’ve had in Seattle. I’m not usually a lamb fan, but lamb was delicious. It did not have a gamy taste. The Chicken Marsala sauce was slightly sweet for me, but the chicken was cooked to perfection and the dish was still very good. There portabella mushroom dish is fantastic($ 18). The burger($ 19) is very good. The sautéed vegetables served on the side were incredible too. Very tasty. Salted correctly. I love their veggies, but if you’re not a beet lover, ask the cooks to hold the beets and the chard which have very earthy tastes. I loved the layered salad. Desserts are fantastic! The avocado & raw chocolate mousse($ 10) is fantastic! I couldn’t taste the avocado – just tasted like a smooth pudding or mousse. The desserts are all worth trying. Best«cheese» cake I’ve had(dairy free). Both the chocolate and pomegranate flavors are yummy. The smoothie($ 7) was yummy too. I had the apple/ginger with coconut water. Sweet with a ginger bite. There water is so delicious. They have some special filters. The atmosphere is wonderful. Hugo’s has a great outdoor porch with tables that have heaters in them. Very inviting. The price of the meal with one glass of wine(including tax and tip) was about $ 100. Very good food and atmosphere, but you pay for it. I would go back. Especially with a Groupon!

We visited Hugo’s for the second time last night and we once again delighted by the food, ambiance and service. Absolutely delicious gourmet food — all gluten free and cow dairy free. The apple goat cheese bruschetta and crab cakes were delicious. Three of us ordered different pasta dishes that were wonderful. Lemon chicken was great too. Veggies very fresh. Desserts were good as well. Don’t miss this wonderful treasure!

Health food heaven! It’s all done well, every little detail has been thought through. A small but significant example — water that they serve has been filtered and alkalized on premises! Juices are delicious, so is food wholesome and tasty. Portions are good size and prices are actually better compared to other eateries in Redmond, considering that everything is organic here. I am coming back any time I am in the area!

What a wonderful restaurant. The décor is warm, inviting and cozy. We ordered the 3 course pre-fixe menu starting with spring rolls(husband had the apple bruschetta). Then we had kale/broccoli soup, followed by Vegan Alfredo(he had seafood spaghetti). Everything on the menu is gluten free. Some dishes are vegan, vegetarian, and even nut free. But if you are a meat lover, there are options too. It was a wonderful, delicious experience. A place we will visit again!

Not busy at all. Portion is on the small side but it was pretty light and delicious. They have been creative with their ingredients and cooking methods. Service was great. I only wished their Eggplant with Zucchini Noodles(Zoodles?) are actually long… what they have is essentially shredded zucchinis.

I had the Parmesan eggplant with zucchini noodles and I loved it! Great flavor and cute atmosphere. I’m just staring to incorporate more whole and organic foods into my diet, so this place is perfect. Didn’t order anything else yet, but I’m a fan so far and it’s definitely nice to have a restaurant in town that isn’t 2000 calories a meal. The service was pleasant and prompt, and it’s a convenient location for anyone who lives/walks in downtown a lot. Not sure why people complain about the pricing in REDMOND. If you’re going to spend money, it should go towards eating healthy food. Pricing seems comparable to all the other non-organic, freezer food, table restaurants in downtown.

I enjoyed a late lunch at Hugo’s today. I started with the vegetable purée soup, and had crab cakes and spring rolls. The food was good, but there was one very dominant flavor in every dish rather than a bouquet. The crab cakes were light and delicious but a condiment with some kind of fat would have rounded out the flavors… perhaps an aioli? Spring roll was falling apart and cumbersome to eat, and way too much kale versus other players. I was disappointed at the lack of freshness in the ingredients. Still working on Thursday’s vendor delivery? I will go back because I like the place and the concept, but I will try dinner. I’m guessing more effort is extended there and it’s worth another shot.

The parking is very difficult. Very narrow driveway in with cars parked on one side. In addition, I had the Cesar kale salad which had a good taste. However the chicken that I purchased extra to put on top was not only expensive at six dollars, but it was like leather to bite into. My daughter had the mac & cheese and although she said it wasn’t bad tasting it’s not something that she would likely remember. My son-in-law I had the burger and he said it was very good and tasty. I think it’s overpriced for what you get. The waitress was wonderful and prompt. They do have excellent cucumber water that was delicious! Not sure I would go there again.

Was on day 10 of the Whole Food diet and my friend suggested Hugo’s for dinner. Had heard about them and since I had never been we gave them a try. So glad we did! Sat outside on their front«porch» and enjoyed the end of a sunny day. Service was great and our waitress went out of her to way to assure me they could customize anything I wanted to meet my needs. My friend and I both got the crispy kale salad(no cheese or croutons) and it was delish! I had a side of mixed veggies as I wasn’t super hungry and she got the chicken marsala. The veggies were super flavorful but a tiny bit oily. My friend’s chicken was cooked perfectly and came with a side of the veggies and a baked potato that she said tasted great. Was the food a tad bit pricey? Yep, but you are also getting organic food and if you aren’t willing to pay for it then maybe not the place for you. Service — 5 star! Location — 4 star(faces a busy road) Food — 4.5 star Check them out and come willing to try new things!

I’m visiting from South Carolina. We don’t have any restaurants around us that are gluten free. I have to say yum! I had the hamburger enormous but delicious. My mother had the Cesar salad with grilled chicken. My son and daughter had items off there children’s menu a Hawaiian pizza and Alfredo served on spaghetti noodles. Everyone enjoyed the food. A little expensive but we don’t normally go out for dinner. It’s great eat here!!!

As an experienced raw foodist I came to Hugo’s with low expectations. I have eaten at many completely raw vegan restaurants from LA to New York. Many times I walk away feeling weighed down and feeling that the food is overly done. Not the case here. I have to say that it was probably some of the best constructed raw food I’d ever had. The only disappointment was the sweet potato«hummus» that came with the crackers before the meal. It was not at all appetizing looking. Really runny, thought it was a sauce of some sort. Flavor lacking any resemblance of hummus. But can’t say it ruined our meal in any way. Our Raw Cacao cheesecake was divine. Best choice of crust I’ve ever had. I left feeling great. Thank you for giving me such a nice option for dining out.

I really liked the quaint house the restaurant is set up in. It is homey and cute! Our waitress was knowledgeable about the menu and very attentive. The pear brushetta had great flavor with sweet pears and a savory balsamic vinegrette drizzled ontop. The mac and cheese was so-so, I would not recommend it as the flavor was bland. The chicken stroganoff was more flavorful, with lots of organic chicken and mushrooms. The best part of the meal was the raw cashew based pomegranate cheesecake. It was light and fluffy with coconut nectar and raw cacao drizzled over it… YuM! All the ingredients were raw which meant even though it was a dessert, we were getting the maximum nutrients from the cashews, pomegranate, and cacao. I will definitely be back to try more on the menu!

The gluten/lactose intolerant side of me is singing right now! Everything is made dairy free and gluten free here. I had the chicken and mushroom pasta and it was delicious after a dash of pepper was added. The Hugo’s salad was a beautiful blend of ingredients, however, slightly overdosed with sweet/tart. I plan to return and get dessert(brownies!) and try the GF beer.

I had such high hopes for this place that it pains me to write this review. I absolutely love the fact that Hugo’s is all sustainable and all organic. However, I can’t help but notice that their«sustainable» marketing is more or less on the green washing side. In fact, it seems like Hugo’s has an identity crisis and doesn’t really know what niche they fall in… Let’s begin with the building. They reside in an old Victorian house. You would never guess that the restaurant inside is «all organic, all sustainable». It would be more fit for a brunch place for grandmothers… Actually, we were the only guests there that were under the age of 50. Service: well service was slow. Factor in the slight detail of only three tables had customers in an empty restaurant makes the service here super slow. The two of us waited half an hour for our food. Did I mention that there were only two other tables dining? Food: portions are small and very pricey. I had the portobello mushroom entrée which costs 18 dollars and all it contained were a couple slices of mushrooms, spinach, and zucchini… Sure, organic is pricier, but the food lacked quality as well. Everything on my plate was doused in oil. I was still hungry and felt extremely sick afterwards from my veggie platter being so greasy. Ironic how inhaling my left over Chinese food from the night before made me feel twice as better as before I came into Hugo’s. Great concept but poorly executed. I do hope they get their act together because we do need restaurants that serves healthy sustainable food.
