Overlake Eye Designs

I have come here for years for eye exams and contact lens fitting with Dr. Wong. I was happy and thought he is nice and knowledgeable until recently. About a year ago I noticed my contact lens became whitish and blurry in the middle of the day quite often. I googled the symptoms and realized it’s caused by protein buildup. I brought this up during my last eye exam. However, Dr. Wong sounded surprised and seemed unaware of what a protein build up is, let alone what might cause the buildup. He had no solution or suggestion to my problem and gave me the same prescription as before. I was a little shocked by his unawareness of such a common contact lens problem. Later, I googled the reviews of Trueye, and found many complaints about the buildup problem since Acuvue changed the materials in Nara A. Now I’m stuck with the prescription he gave me and have to pay for another exam in order to have a new prescription.
I expect my optometrist to be able to (A) aware of contact lens related problems and provide solutions, and (b) aware of latest product information. He failed on both.

I was a patient here for seven years. I’m revising my review downward because I feel like the practice has grown to be too large and this has impacted quality of care.
I’ve complained for a number of years that the contact lenses I wore were not giving me crisp enough vision. My glasses were fine. Each time I brought this up, Dr. Wong told me that I had a small amount of astigmatism, and that he was masking my astigmatism with a slightly more powerful spherical contact lens. I was told that as a result, I shouldn’t expect crisp vision with my contacts, and that it was something I just had to deal with. I brought up toric lenses as an option but this was written off, saying that I didn’t have enough astigmatism for this to make a difference.
Well, a few weeks ago, I go to the DOL to renew my driver license. In the process of doing that, I notice that I can barely read the chart with my contacts. As a result, I went out for a second opinion this year to a different optometrist and after initially trying to mask my astigmatism with a spherical contact lens, and not being thrilled with the resulting vision quality, the OD fitted me with a toric lens. The difference in my vision is like night and day — I don’t have to struggle to read my computer’s screen. Problem solved.
Torics are harder to fit, and require more patience on the part of the optometrist to get the lens to rotate correctly. I’m not sure if Dr. Wong didn’t want to spend the time on this with me, or if he wasn’t listening, or what the deal was. But combined with the decline in office staff quality as reported by other reviewers, and the fact that they now manage two offices with three ODs on staff, I just wasn’t satisfied anymore. Like I said, my glasses prescription was fine, but I would advise against going to this office if you have contacts, as they just didn’t listen to me.

I received a reply from the business saying that my concerns have been heard and they would be putting more checks in place. Kudos for the response. I will go there again.

I had my eye appointment today, Dr. Wong is nice and polite and explains everything in great detail. I felt like he genuinely cared for me as a patient and well for all procedures done today I had my insurance paying for it. The lady who did my pre-​exam was also nice.
However I did find the reception staff a bit cold, when I entered one of the girls was on the phone and didnt even acknowledge me and then when I stood there, I was pointed to the other girl who was also curt. Maybe they can do with some cheerfulness and that seems to be the general consensus in all the reviews.
However I liked the medical service so much that this looks like my regular eye exam place from now on. Parking was a bit tight today and I had to park in the perpendicular lot.

Very professional and extremely kind. I found Dr. Chang incredibly friendly, patient and easy to understand, even when explaining something technical or complicated. Front office staff was also very friendly and helpful. They even stayed open an extra 20 minutes when I was running late, so I could get a last-​minute ophthalmology exam.
Note: I notice a lot of the negative reviews seem to single out Dr. Wong, who I did not have as my doctor. I would highly recommend Dr. Chang.

The doctor was nice and very willing to answer all of my questions as I always have a lot of questions for them. The front desk is also quite helpful and friendly — willing to give an opinion on glasses if you want it but not pushy. The one girl I worked with particularly seemed to have a little knowledge of my insurance plan but couldn’t explain how all of the costing worked and I think I ended up paying for something I thought she said was included.
The kicker really is now that they have an office on the Microsoft campus my insurance will no longer be accepted by them. Well if they take your insurance, it’s not a bad place to go. Sadly I will have to find a new place to go which is unfortunate.

My husband and I have been seeing Dr. Tony Wong at Overlake Eye Designs for eye care for over a decade. We’ve consistently found him to be very thorough, like him a lot, and haven’t seen a reason to go elsewhere. He upgrades his technology regularly and (based on conversations with other people) I think he’s providing a more thorough and complete exam than other optometrists. So, I recommend him. Contact lens orders come in quickly and correct. I admit I usually shop at Market Optical to choose glasses, rather than Overlake, once I get the prescription from Tony Wong, just because it’s fun to see a bigger selection.

Haven’t come across a place with such bad customer service. Front desk is quite rude, unwilling to do anything for the customers and says they are too busy. That’s not the way to treat customers if you want them to come back. I will not go there again as there are so many other options around town.

While the doctor Dr Wong is nice, the support staff specially the ones who sit at the counter are sometimes rude and not good to deal with. Also, I purchased eye glasses from them last year and believe me they charge a lot of money for them. But still, my glasses for some reason have some spots now which do not seem to go away. I went to the shop to show them but they just refused me out saying the glasses are out of warranty and offered me to buy a new pair instead! I was surprised that at least they should have tried to explain me the problem. And why on this earth I will buy another pair from them after the first one went bad in just over a year. In my opinion, if anyone who has a Costco membership should just get the prescription glasses from from the Costco optician.

It is hard to hear at the age of 12 that you need glasses. However, Dr. tony Wong did an amazing job with my daughter. After my daughter told him that she had studied the eye in science he took a picture of her eyes so she could take it to share with her class. Rebecca, an eye tech, helped pick the perfect glasses for my daughter. Not only was this a no tear appointment it was educational and my daughter left smiling and excited about her new glasses. After such a positive experience with our daughter my husband and I have both gone to see Dr. Tony Wong and the amazing staff.

My experience hasn’t been as good as that of others. While I saw Dr. Wong and found him polite enough, there are some issues in this practice which are not that great in my opinion. Dr. Wong himself seems to have a rather unique attitude on the more lackadaisical side suggesting to me so simply look with my other eye when the prescription in the other doesn’t give me clear enough vision, especially when driving. Ok…
The optician (I assume) who is at the front desk and who will fit your glasses lacks basic customer service skills, is curt and sometimes unpleasant to deal with. I am referring to very basic customs such as greeting and saying goodbye, explaining the different options and their cost involved, explaining insurance benefits, making eye contact and interrupting any menial work such as writing or reading emails when spoken to and not turning away until the customer signals the question has been answered/​issue resolved, replying with more than 1 word answers such as not to appear bothered by having being asked in the first place etc
The eye photo is neat, and it also costs over 100 $. The cost involved for this non necessary procedure is not communicated beforehand, so it appears they simply want to bill the insurance as much as possible, which would also explain the lack of communication regarding the cost of anything, be it lenses or the photo.
Emails are not always answered, it seems rather random when they do or don’t.
I have gone to the store to look at frames several times, no one has ever offered any help or assistance.
Don’t schedule for the first appointment after opening. You will stand outside as the doors are not unlocked literally until the full hour even though the staff is already inside and you stand in front of the glass door for everyone to see outside. There is no shelter outside, so be prepared and take a jacket if you happen to schedule for 9.a.m. weekdays.
Personally I will go elsewhere next time.

I have to downgrade to one star. Meanwhile, unhappy with the prescription in my glasses and unable to see properly, especially while driving, I have gone to get a new eye exam at another place. Curious as to how different the results were, I asked for a new copy of my eye exam from Overlake eye exam. When I received it, there was no correction for nearsightedness in one eye. The new place I saw did, obviously, detect the nearsightedness, too. This is unacceptable and Overlake eye designs insists this to be correct.

I’ve been going to Dr Wong for about 3 years now, I like that the staff are very professional and know what they’re talking about. They are very helpful with everything from trying on new eyeglasses to repairing something, always friendly and honest.
I was impressed with them when they contacted me maybe an hour after my appointment and informed me that I was charged the wrong amount and that it would be canceled and reset to the correct lower amount.
I would highly recommend them to anyone seeking a eye doctor.

I came in for a routine eye exam since it’s been years since I’ve had my eyes checked and was surprised at how thorough and professional Dr. Wong and his staff were. The location is very close to Microsoft and they made it very easy to adapt to our weirdly changing health plan… I didn’t end up having to pay anything for my check-​up despite Microsoft becoming gradually more stingy.
The office is very inviting and comfortable and Dr. Wong uses what seems to be pretty state of the art technology. It was pretty cool to see a super zoomed-​in picture of my eye that made it look like a moonscape! Apparently this is useful as well as cool, as it would let him easily diagnose any developing problems so that they could be addressed quickly.
Although I have pretty healthy eyes, I will continue to get them checked out at Overlake Eye Designs. It didn’t seem like he was trying to sell me anything I didn’t need or squeeze an extra few bucks out of me like some folks do, and I respect that. Great guy, great staff, great experience… highly recommend Overlake Eye Designs!

It has been four years since my last eye exam, so it was definitely time to have one. Overlake Eye Designs is very close to my work location at Microsoft, so I decided to give them a try. It is located in the same strip mall as Seoul Hot Pot, Mayuri and Malay Satay Hut.
The office is on the smaller side. The front consists of an eyewear shop with doctor offices in the back. Overall, my experience here was great. As Janet T. writes, professionalism is awesome here. They are super friendly and it is great that they prepare the paperwork ahead of time here.
The actual exam was thorough which I appreciate. Dr. Wong did my initial exam and Dr. Pian did my contact lenses follow-​up. Both were easy to talk to, super knowledgeable and explained things confidently.
I like Overlake Eye Designs. Specifically because they were on top of things from the get go. A well run doctor’s office like the one here is increasingly hard to find!

I’ll be the first to leave a great comment for this establishment! I heard about this place from other microsoftees and decided to check it out to see what types of eyewear they provided. I was very pleased with their selection. They carried brands such as Gucci, oakly, coach etc and the girls there were really helpful and super nice. The professionalism blew me away and I’ll be back for sure to get all of my eyewear needs.
