I was not impressed with Dr. Mitchell who is so scatter brained she can’t even bring herself to find the correct paperwork that was faxed over multiple times when she calls with a «plan». Everything she suggests is extremely costly and doesn’t rule out anything. She doesn’t follow up like she says she’s going to. The place is a rip off. Ridiculous, exhorbant prices and pushing for you to spend, spend, spend with constant, unnecessary check ups. I found myself doing the research and asking about medications. Maybe I could charge $ 300 per consultation with Google!

This place is amazing! We have a rescued miniature pinscher who was extremely fearful of the vet. Her foster father described her as turning «demonic» when going to the vet, so we tried to avoid it — until we found Redmond-​Kirkland Animal Hospital. They were so willing to work with us to make sure that our anxiety-​ridden fur child was as comfortable as possible. We set up «wellness vists» and created a care plan so she could get familiar with the vet while still getting the care she needed. The vet and vet techs sit on the floor and cover their fingers, hands, and floor in easy cheese (our dog’s favorite), so that she learned to let them touch her and touch her with strange objects (like a stethoscope).
We’ve worked with Dr. Hoover, Dr. Wise, and our dog’s favorite, Mike (vet tech). All have been so amazing to work with. We most recently had a dental cleaning with Dr. Wise and our dog was even excited to see her when we got to the clinic! Dr. Wise called immediately after to let us know she did great and her anxiety level was low. The vets here really care.
I wish we had found this vet years ago! We highly, highly recommend Redmond-​Kirkland Animal Hospital!

I discovered this vet by driving by– convenient location– and took my new kitty in (adopted her shortly after her 4^th birthday in April of this year from MEOW in Kirkland). I regret forgetting their names but the vet tech and vet were very nice, patient, and knowledgeable. I had an EXTENSIVE list of questions (I have had cats before: p) and they both were patient and answered them all in depth. The vet recommended kitty toothpaste due to slight gingivitis, and now kitty has pearly whites. Maybe I should use chicken toothpaste from petco.
My second visit pretty recently went well– it was an impromptu emergency visit– I noticed kitty was breathing rapidly with nostrils flared. I went right there and leela was seen immediately. Kitty no longer coughs, and isn’t on medication, I think she had a cold, or maybe she is better because I threw out all those sparkle fuzz balls.
Either way, Dr. Jessica Albindinger (sorry if I slaughtered spelling) was very nice, and helped me feel at ease and informed.
Mike at the front desk is great, he is cheerful and helpful.

I adopted my dog about an year and a half ago and his previous owners had let his nails become overly long. Ive taken him regularly to the local groomer to have them trimmed down, but it seemed like I still was not going to be able to help him keep them at a comfortable level without some additional intervention.
I made an appointment to bring him in for a nail trim with sedation, as he doesnt really tolerate regular trims very well and I thought the vet would be able to provide him with additional options that the groomer couldnt, i.e. getting the nails down to a healthy length without torturing the dog.
They informed me that I would need to pay for the initial exam, as I was a new patient and it was required to perform this sedated service for him. They also informed me that a regular nail trim did NOT require an initial exam. I agreed to the exam fee in order to receive the additional service of a sedated nail trim.
The staff was friendly at the desk and I was seen quickly. The vet did suggest several additional services (teeth, skin, bloodwork, etc) that I declined at the time because I was there specifically to deal with his nails. The vet said that they would cut his nails down as far as possible without getting into the quick, and then would use a dremel tool to do some additional finishing. She said she would see how he tolerated the dremel tool and go from there. I assumed that they would do what they could without sedation and then sedate him to do any additional work he couldnt tolerate, seeing is that is what I asked for from the outset.
They took him into the back to do the work and I waited in the lobby. I could hear my dog screaming and yapping and yowling for an EXTENDED period of time in the back room, and I began to wonder why they were not sedating him so that this very issue would not traumatize the dog. Eventually the noise stopped and I assumed they had decided to move forward with the sedation.
5 minutes later the tech brought him out and informed me that they «cut off as much as they could and dremeled one foot, but he would not allow them to do the other three». I asked her if they had sedated him and she said no.
I was charged the standard 15 $ fee for a nail trim AND charged for an initial exam that was not even necessary in order to receive the non-​sedated service AND… they did not even do anything for him that my regular groomer couldnt have done once more for that 10 $ flat fee.
Basically, I just paid for an 80 $ nail trim that I could have got regularly for 10 $, had to dodge being sold services I was NOT interested in (if they wanted to sell me something it could have been the sedation service I actually wanted to buy) and am left no better than I was before with the state of my dogs nails… their suggestion, come back in two weeks for another nail trim. Thanks, but Ill save the 5 $ extra and go back to my groomer.
All I wanted is what I asked for, not to be set up to return to THIS clinic to receive the same care I was receiving from my local groomer at a third less the price. On top of it all, the poor dog had a terrible painful experience. Which was the entire point of coming in to the vet for this service.
I feel robbed, flat out robbed. I asked for one thing, I paid for their exam in order to receive it and my dog paid the price in discomfort so they didnt have to go the extra mile. It really makes me ill. There were cute little «doggy finger painting» portraits from their day care animals all over the walls, and descriptions of «soothing music and chill time» for their animals in kennel… but they couldnt be bothered to sedate my animal and do as I asked and are still the richer for it.
I was so angry I just paid and left. From the other reviews here it seems its a crap-shoot…but Id protect my wallet and my animal if you decide to go with them.

We saw Dr. Hoover at Redmond-​Kirkland Animal Hospital, and she is really great.
Our pup we adopted about 8 months ago is… difficult. She is really adorable and cuddly with us at home, but as soon as strangers start handling her «no no zones», she basically turns into that white rabbit from Monty Python and the Holy Grail and starts growling, snarling, snapping, and wants to bite anyone who violates her personal bubble.
We left our previous vet because they were sort of ignoring this problem (which we desperately wanted to work on and improve our dog’s behavior) and just telling us «don’t worry about it» while our dog was showing increasing signs of fear and aggression.
However, Dr. Hoover and the staff definitely believed me when I told them about my dog’s history and took it seriously from the get-​go. They were REALLY great at getting our nervous dog into a room right away, going slow with her when they started the exam, muzzling her when it became apparent she was not going to let people examine her rear, and then handling her very kindly and professionally even when she morphed into «white rabbit» mode.
They also prescribed some anti-​anxiety meds for our dog for the next visit and gave us really great instructions on how to properly dose her. This made for a much smoother visit the next time around for both me and my dog (and I imagine for their staff too). It was nice to have a vet who was willing to address her behavioral concerns in addition to her medical concerns. For a dog like mine, medicating her anxiety is really the kindest thing to do so she doesn’t remember it much and develop more «vet-​phobia.» They also do wellness visits, so she can come in and get treats and learn that vet visits don’t always spell immediate doom.
By the way, we also took training classes at All Things Pawsitive (their affiliated training center) with our dog. We worked with Cara and she was great; our dog has come a long way since we adopted her thanks to her guidance and tips. It was really handy when we switched to this vet because they already had my dog’s information (including some behavioral notes) in the system and it made for a pretty seamless transition.
I felt like Dr. Hoover did a great job explaining my pet’s medical needs, my options, and her recommendations. She was willing to take the time to answer questions, and I’m so relieved to have a vet who is willing to take an extra 5 – 10 minutes to help my dog slowly learn to be less of a spaz instead of rushing us out the door. I would definitely recommend this vet, particularly if your dog is shy or fearful.

I just adopted a chihuahua and was searching for a new vet.
I’ve seen this one as I drive by and the reviews are fairly good, so I decided to try it.
Along with my dog, I brought my older cat. He can be a bit of a handful.
My visit went very well, the front staff were helpful and kind. My dog pee’d and pooped in their front room (my fault for not walking him longer before we came in) and they were really nice about it and cleaned it up for me!
Dr. Mitchell was very nice. This was my first vet experience with my cat where he didn’t try to scratch anyone! It was also the first time my rescue dog ate out of someones hand (Dr. Mitchell), so she definitely got approval from my animals.
The appointment was $ 65 (for both) and my older cat hadn’t been to the vet for a bit so he needed a few tests done. They gave me estimates to look at and were not pushy. I ended up doing the tests for my cat (a senior cat check up). My dog has a small heart mummer and Dr. Mitchell got me an estimate for the assessment of his heart (or whatever it’s called :)) and how much teeth cleaning would be.
After my appointment they sent PDF documents with exam notes.
Overall it was a great experience. I will update when we go next.

I am giving the animal hospital 3 stars because I have had completely different experiences with different vets at this hospital. I’ll first start with the good experiences and then explain the terrible.
My pet has chronic allergies and has a long history of trying to treat them. I brought both my animals in for their first visit when I moved to the area. We saw Dr. Hoover and she was wonderful. She took the time to review my pets’ histories and developed a plan of attack from there. She took her time and did a thorough exam. It really felt like she wanted what was best for my animals. We agreed upon a treatment plan for my pet’s allergies and stayed in contact throughout the process. She contacted me when she told me she would and didn’t suggest anything that seemed unreasonable. I would rate Dr. Hoover as a ⁵⁄₅.
Following her directions I was supposed to call back if his rash came back. Two weeks after ending treatment, it returned. I set up an appointment for the next day. Unfortunately, it was not Dr. Hoover that we saw. We had to see Dr. Wise. She spent all of 2min with my pet. She admitted she didn’t read his chart and proceeded to suggest everything we have already tried with him. Dr. Hoover and I had set up a plan for when his allergies came back but since Dr. Wise didn’t care to take the time to read his charts, she didn’t know that. Granted, I should have insisted we ONLY see Dr. Hoover, I had hoped we would have the same level of care and detail that Dr. Hoover put in. This was not the case. She suggested unnecessary treatments to boost up the vet bill for that day after even admitting that they were probably not necessary. I told her no and just took the meds that we came in for. I would rate Dr. Wise as a ¹⁄₅.
I was hoping for a more thorough follow through like Dr. Hoover and I had planned but unfortunately Dr. Wise seemed more interested in charging me for things that weren’t necessary than the actual care and treatment of my pet. She talked continuously without letting me get a word in also. Nothing is more frustrating when your pet has a chronic allergy and you have tried so many things to fix it than when a vet walks in and tells you that essentially your pet isn’t worth their time because they would rather not read his history and just waste your time suggesting everything that has already been done for him.
I really like how convenient this hospital is and I think generally everyone (except Dr. Wise) cares about the physical, emotional, and mental health and welfare of your animals. When we are finished treating the secondary infection for my pet’s allergies I will be spending another vet visit fee to see Dr. Hoover again and continue the plan that we had started as it seems this vet visit was almost a waste. (Not completely because I have medication to make him comfortable for the time being but I still received no help in finding a solution)

We came here at 5:30 pm yesterday afternoon with my dog just so they would recommend us something we could buy since he has been scratching non-​stop and got his skin irritated. If necessary I wanted to book an appointment to make sure he didn’t have allergies. Nevertheless I couldn’t do anything.
As soon as we got in the lady in the desk just looked at us and very rudely said «do you have an appointment». I said no and she said Ok the vet team is leaving now (despite their website says they close at 7:00). Nothing else. She didn’t even ask me what we wanted or needed of if we were interested in making an appointment for some other time.
We left and never intend to come back. Worst customer service I have experienced in a long time. If that is how they treat their customers I cant imagine how they treat the animals…

I scheduled our appointment over the weekend on Unilocal & for whatever reason, the clinic didn’t receive my information. No worries, they still got us in.
I was hoping for a kind, caring, common sense vet & that’s what we found. Dr. Mitchell was so kind & thorough. She spent more time with us than I think any other doctor has. She thinks my dog has a food allergy & instead of trying to sell me an expensive food (that they sell), she suggested I read labels, find a feed with a different protein source & give him Benedryl. Then go from there.
As a new patient, all the shots were free– at least a $ 75 savings & the overall bill was really reasonable, especially considering how overdue he was for a checkup. They did some tests that totally made sense like checking for worms, etc. He hasn’t been to the vet in 2 years, so I buy it that he needs that.
Staff was also great. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience from the time we walked in to the end.
My dog is ridiculously healthy, but if he should get sick, God forbid, I know we’ll be in good hands!

After several years, we are finally leaving. In our opinion the quality and experience of the vets here has hit an all time low.
The final nail in the coffin was struck today when I attempted to come in for my dog’s vaccines and was held hostage with the additional costs of «annual exams».
I feel this practice has become obsessed with money instead of the health of my animals. Goodbye and good luck!

The staff here is excellent, and unlike every other vet I’ve ever been to, they don’t try to hard sell extra tests, medications, treatments, etc. The doctors are great with my dog, gentle, and very thorough. Highly recommend this vet!

I recently had to put my dog down and it was a horrific experience. I didn’t know where to go with the condition my dog was in after I got home for work and my regular vet would have taken too long in traffic. I first came to this office and they took my dog in without an appointment and began looking at my dog and had never seen anything like it before. They then called a specialist and tried to get further information on how to examine my dog and I kept saying If it was possible to just see the specialist and drive up to her, I would rather do that (it was possible). Instead they kept trying to pretend like they knew what they were doing and had no idea how to read the eye pressure gage, which was extremely frustrating as I understand they were trying, but they clearly knew I should be seeing the specialist or should be taking my dog to the emergency room. I would think that a vet would know whether or not your dog needs to go straight to an emergency room, rather than waste time at a hospital where they don’t know how to treat her and keep calling a specialist to relay information. After they attempted an exam that they didn’t even do right (the specialist confirmed), they sent me to the specialist for after hours visit. The specialist was great and the complete opposite experience who eventually said I needed to go straight to the emergency room. But, I was extremely frustrated with the Redmond-​Kirkland hospital and how they tried to help on something they didn’t even know where to start and this burned crucial time I had for my pet to live. I walked out with a few hundred dollar bill when they sent me to a specialist and I wanted to go there in the first place. So, basically they got money out of me for not helping much except forwarding me to someone else that was helpful and actually sent me to the right place. I will not be returning to this vet in the future ever again as the one I currently attend in Greenwood is extremely friendly and they handle situations with urgency.

I’d say if your bird just needs some antibiotics and you know that then bring them here if it’s an emergency. The avian vet was nice, but she seemed uncomfortable handling my small bird. Although, to be fair this could be because she had a previous bad experience with a patient/​client or maybe she thinks it’s better for the bird. After a bad experience with a prior vet, I was surprised I was allowed to hold my bird for part of the exam but I think it may have been a good thing. The only reason I took off two stars is because she didn’t seem confident in recommending a treatment and she mentioned they sedate little birds to get blood samples. I’ve never had an avian vet in 20 years of owning birds need to do that. That worries me a little. I also notice they have fragrance plug ins inside the exam rooms which isn’t great for birds. — I wanted to edit this since the business manager responded that the plug ins are not for fragrance — they are for keeping the cats and dogs calm. So not fragrance emitting plug ins! That was my mistake as I’ve never encountered these before.
But my little bird was sick and she got her antibiotics. The price was also good and they were respectful of getting me back into the room away from the hustle and bustle of the front area. I was offered water and they checked in multiple times to apologize for wait, update me on what was going on, etc. I just wish they were truly a little more «bird friendly». If you have a dog or kitty, this place would be great though.

My family has always taken their pets to this clinic almost since I can remember.
So when I adopted a cat of my own, they were my natural choice.
I later adopted a 6 month old puppy who came to me a day after his dewclaw removal surgery (I had no say in whether it happened or not) had been done. When I got my dog, his bandage on one leg was slipping off and by the time we were home, it had completely slipped and taken the stitches with it. The other bandage was starting to slip too, but I resecured it.
I didn’t want to take the dog back to where he’d had the surgery done because the bandaging was so incompetent. I called RKAH and they gave me an emergency appointment the same day.
They took a look at it and told me they’d need to stitch it up again. They gave me a reasonable estimate, they kept him for the minor surgery, and I picked him up later that day.
We had several checkup visits after that and everyone was always kind and professional and they didn’t charge me for the checkup visits, just the re-​bandaging.
I was so impressed with their handling of my dog and me.
I am adopting a new puppy tomorrow and I know exactly where I’m taking him for his first Wellness visit.
I cannot recommend this vet enough.

I have a very fearful dog and the staff here is amazing. They were able to give shots and take blood without having to use a muzzle. They were very gentle and took their time to make sure it was done carefully. I also went to the other location on Redmond-​Fall City road and the staff was just as great.

We’ve been using RKAH for over 8 months now, and I have to say this is hands down THE best office I’ve ever been to!
I’ve probably called a hundred times with questions about our puppy and the reception staff has always, 100% of the time, been friendly, polite, and knowledgeable.
Our puppy is EXTREMELY energetic, and can be a bit of a handful, especially since he gets so excited and happy as soon as we walk in the door (how many people can say THAT about their vets?^_^). Even so, the receptionists and technicians have always been patient and polite, and work hard to get him calmed down.
Dr. Engel is our primary vet, and she is just the sweetest person to work with! She has always been kind and attentive to our puppy’s needs, and isn’t flustered by his high energy levels. She is extremely knowledgeable and has done her best to make sure that our dog receives the best treatments for whatever ails him. I know of at least 2 instances when she spotted medication conflicts and found alternative treatments. It doesn’t seem like a big deal, but for someone who has seen vets prescribing medication that actually hurt more than helped, Dr. Engel’s knowledge was a HUGE load off my mind.
And they don’t just slap you with a bill for the most expensive treatment known to man; they will talk through your options AND give you accurate estimates for those options. When we did our puppy’s neuter operation, they gave us a high/​low breakdown of all the charges depending on the treatment we chose. In the end, we chose the more expensive option (to install the HomeAgain chip during the neuter), but were billed less than the original quote! They also have no problem recommending cheaper pharmacy options to get your pet’s medication at a better price!
I would HIGHLY recommend this place to any dog owner in the area!

We have only been coming to this vet clinic for a month, but it is hands down the best place we’ve been to in the 11 years we’ve had dogs.
Dr. Engel is so professional, kind, patient, and responsive. She called several times to check on our old beagle after his visits. She answers questions thoughtfully and with a lot of detail, and provided lots of helpful info for us to read about his kidney and bladder issues. They are up front about costs for different tests and medications, and don’t try to «upsell», and in fact, she was very clear about what tests might give us actionable info, vs those that were just «academic», which I appreciated very much.
Their office is clean and bright and very technology friendly — they email exam notes and appointment reminders. Prices for special food are very reasonable (better than online, actually!) and prices for services seem to be about in line with other vets on the Eastside. (And in some cases, very inexpensive — hell yes, I’ll pay $ 10 for a nail trim!)
Sadly, we had to let our beagle go after his kidney disease progressed and Dr. Engel was so compassionate and understanding while my husband and I were blubbery messes. I hated that we needed to use their services in this regard, but it went as well as it possibly could have for such a sad occasion.
We switched our other dog to this practice as well, and she has recommended a new course of treatment for his bad arthritis. I had concerns about one of the drugs based on some reading I had done, and Dr. Engel spent a good deal of time with me on the phone allaying my fears.
I only wish we had found this place when our dogs were young!

My 4 stars is mainly for our vet we had. She was extremely knowledgeable and handled our yorkie/​pom very well. She gave us great tips for specific care of our pup and didnt try to sell us on anything we didnt need.
The facility is very up to date with a modern look and clean.
Front desk is polite.
I went here with a groupon for a wellness visit.
I was a bit weary of what I was to expect since they have a sister location which gets horrible reviews and this one gets such great ones! For my first visit I say it went well. Will I go here again? Maybe, they didnt really give me a reason not to.
P. s. they should really take the promotion they have for a free grooming off of Unilocal since it expired in 2011!!! Was a bit disappointed by that and that they didnt honor it even though it is still being advertised :(

After reading positive reviews of this animal hospital about the quality of its care and the relatively affordable prices for the Eastside, I decided to give Redmond-​Kirkland a try. I’ve taken my rat terrier Maggie to this animal hospital twice now and once to its sister clinic in Redmond-​Fall City; each visit has been good. Everyone’s always treated Maggie kindly, despite how nervous she gets when going to the vet.
Our particular veterinarian in the clinic, Dr. King, has taken the time to give followup calls to check on Maggie, which is impressive to say the least. I mean, hell, my own doctors don’t even do that half the time. Lucky dogs!

I’ve actually never been to a veterinarian visit that was as professional, warm and helpful as Redmond-​Kirkland Animal Hospital.
I’ve been to a vet clinic that wanted to do immediate, unnecessary surgery on my dog, a vet that chased and frightened my pet for a half an hour and then mocked me when I asked to watch the exam, and I’ve even been to a vet that told me my Manx cat would have issues eliminating and eventually die from her short tail…
All three separate vets across the country and they all failed miserably on their suggestions, bedside manner and frankly their desire to make money over the best interest of my pet.
Redmond Kirkland Animal Hospital was amazing and the first vet hospital I’ve felt truly lucky to be able to visit. All issues for each pet were addressed and I received notes and information during and post appointment.
The way in which the vet interacted with each pet was nothing short of excellent, thoughtful and caring.
It was the best vet visit I’ve ever had and I can’t recommend them enough.
