It is nice to have a full-size indoor public pool in Redmond. The pool itself seems well-maintained. Water temperature is comfortable for lap swimming(might be a bit chilly for those non intending to swim laps). There are bleachers in which observers can sit(not super comfortable but OK). Apparently they have free Wi-Fi but I have never tried it. They have kickboards and flippers and various floatable items that patrons can use. Staff is generally friendly and polite. The pool is seldom overcrowded; lap swimmers can usually have a lane to themselves or share with no more than 1 other swimmer(tip: if you like an uncrowded pool, go to the second hour of open swim on Saturday or Sunday from 1 – 2PM). But there are some drawbacks to this facility: 1. The schedule is suboptimal, as others have mentioned. There needs to be more open swim and lap swim availability at more reasonable hours. There are only 5 hours of evening/weekend open swim time per week(2 hours Sat, 2 hours Sun, 1 hour Fri evening). 2. The place is showing signs of age and could be improved: many lockers are dysfunctional, ceiling panels have stains and holes, locker room floor tiling really needs replacement. 3. Soap dispensers in the showers are frequently empty. Showers are annoyingly configured to provide about 10 seconds of water flow per push of the button; on some days the shower water is lukewarm at best even after having had a chance to run for several minutes. 4. The diving board is rarely open during open swim.

The pool itself is fine, as are the facilities. What is terrible here is the schedule. As others have mentioned, the schedule has been set with little regard for lap swimmers who aren’t retired. The schedule is packed full of nonsense(e.g. rental parties which shut the whole facility down from 2−9pm on Saturdays). If you aren’t retired and subscribe to the arcane belief that pools are primarily for swimming laps, you will need to swim very early in the morning or very late at night. And even then, you’ll be lucky to get a lane because lap swimming is afforded only a couple hours here and there. Please FIXTHESCHEDULE by adding more lap hours in the early evening(e.g. 5−8pm)

Years of Disappointment The Redmond Hartman pool is near me, so every few years I go over there and try to swim, and every few years — for a decade now — I have been disappointed. Their posted hours are misleading: night swimmers — most people with jobs — get two lanes to lap swim in, and these have been completely full up for years. The rest of the pool is shared with kids and club activities not mentioned on the schedule. If you want to lap swim in peace, you will need to be retired or work very nearby with a generous lunch break, because laptop swim for realz is only available in the useless middle of the day. This is a small, simple facility(no credit cards accepted) that serves one group and one group only: kids.

The pool is clean and the staff are friendly and professional. As far as I know, it is the only pool in the Seattle area that charges non-residents a higher rate. Working in Redmond still qualifies you for the resident rate. The pool itself is not amazing. But it is better built than any city of Seattle pool, and it has separate play and swim areas. I have swam there before work, and during lunchtime. Usually I get my own lane to swim on.
