My boyfriend and I enjoyed an early dinner at Basq Kitchen. The service was very attentive and the servers had helpful suggestions — I am a fish/seafood eating vegetarian and they were able to make good recommendations. We shared the daily sampler special/tapas platter, which was reasonably priced($ 14) and included jamon wrapped dates and piperada vasca(a tomato based stew). We also shared the basque olives(which had a good variety with garlic bread) and also came with some nice garlic bread. The cheese board was also a hit, included some tasty manchego, several other cheeses, and homemade fig jam. Neither of us are big blue cheese fans so we skipped that part. The only let down was the hot stone lamb chop special which was dried out. A pitcher of sangria made a nice accompaniment. The presentation was beautiful and we enjoyed sitting at the communal high table with a view of harbor and ocean.

Food here was great and the service was excellent! Came at the recommendation of a friend for lunch(though dinner would have been better as they have all their cool specials then). Ordered the — charcuterie board(amazing with a great selection of meat and cheeses!) –potatoes bravas(good with a delicious creamy and slightly spicy sauce) — boardwalk sandwich(underwhelming, their bread is really nothing to boast about and it was a good but not great sandwich) –ABK ceviche(underwhelming too, but ceviche is one of those foods than is either really great or not… so points for effort?) Our server was very friendly and recommended a couple of dishes. She forgot to place the order for the sandwich and we ended up waiting for a while and having to remind her, but she comped one of our drinks as an apology which is always appreciated!

What a great, lucky find. We ended up taking the boat down to Redondo Beach and found this little gem of a restaurant. Authentic basque spanish Tapas and everything we had was absolutely delicious. We just told the waitress to bring us a variety of dishes and she hit it out of the park. Oysters, croquettes, meats and cheeses, ceviche, squid with black ink and the list goes on. The owner was very gracious and helpful and the waitress was awesome as well. We ended the feast with some strong grench press coffee and homemade chocolate mousse… yum! If you want to go to Spain for two hours, this is the place!

Great little place on the pier in Redondo. Food is always amazing and friendly service as well. Beer and wine only which makes me miss a cocktail but the food makes up for it and then some. Everything on the menu is amazing and reasonably price to boot. Docking a star because it closes at 9 even on the weekends.

Hidden gem and such great find between all the touristy places at the pier. Authentic tapas, pintxos and wine. If you’re into Basque culture try the Kalimotxo or sangria. Ordering one is just as fun as drinking one; the bartenders make quite the show of mixing one up with dramatic pours and shouts of «kalimotxo!»

Finally a Spanish tapas spot in the South Bay! Make sure you make reservations or come early to wait for a table — the spot is pretty small. Being from Spain I get really picky with trying food here in LA but this place was amazing! The croquetas, the tortilla the patatas and they even have Calimocho! Can’t wait to be back!

Two trips to A Basq Kitchen in the past few months and I have to say– This place is a hidden treasure. Seriously the most unexpected treat in Redondo. I went here over Valentines and was blown away. Excellent food and terrific service. Really tasty sangria and all the tapas are top of the line. I recommend this small, but charming restaurant to anyone! The cheese and meat plates are incredible, the rotating specials are always a fun and flavorful experience and the ceviche has to be some of the best in town. Their ceviche, as well as their other seafoods vary based on the daily catch at the docs, so you’ll only be eating the freshest seafood. The lamb chops are very skillfully prepared and the bacon wrapped dates are a must try. Actually– nothing I have tried here yet has disappointed at all. The service is 5 stars, the uniqueness is 5 stars, the taste and value are a solid 5 stars.

It pains me to write a scathing review based merely on service, however, when entering a Spanish Tapas restaurant in the South Bay for the first time, guidance is welcomed. To begin with, our waitress, coldly greeted us with the hospitality of a tired flea market salesman, ‘what do you want???’ The restaurant is surrounded by outdoor fish markets and souvenir trinket stores which only makes one hope this new adventurous tapas bar will stand out like a beacon where every bar is the same. Yes, the platinum purple haired server scoffed when we asked if they serve a dry Spanish rose’ snorting that it would be under the white wine category of the menu as if I should know. So much for the Basque experience. We then asked a few questions about the menu, a pointless attempt. Educate us, we said, tell us what is good. The purple platinum haired waitress spun her eyes at us and we felt two inches tall. It’s not like this in San Sebastian, I thought. This is a Redondo Beach waitress sinking what could be an incredible, and much needed cultural Chang maker here in the beige dining world of the South Bay… Food was good. This review is strictly a response to HORRIBLE service.

So glad that we looked up where to eat on Unilocal, because it led us here! I wasn’t sure about the food, only because I have never tasted food like this before. I am so glad I did! Everything was absolutely delicious packed with flavor! Mega props to the chef! Not only was the food delicious, our waitress Ariel was beyond awesome! Friendly, accommodating, and went the extra mile for us! We also met the owner of the restaurant, sweetest woman I have ever met! I’m so bad with names, I don’t want to guess, but she came over to ask how our food and experience was and I love that about restaurant owners! Making sure their customers are taken care of and that they are happy! So if you’re hungry… Stop here to eat and make sure your order their chocolate mousse!!! Holy cow!!! Insanely amazing!

Third time here, really love the unique food. The tortilla de papas(tapas) rivals what I’ve eaten in Spain. Great prepared and delectable meats including ribs and beef /pork cheeks. Good tapas and meat platter with olives, bread is fresh and tasty. Croquettes are ok, nothing to blow you away. Better in Miami. :) Octopus…Best I’ve had besides BBQ octopi in Croatia. I really like that everything is fresh and has an authentic flavor and seasoning. My friend didn’t love her oyster shooter as it tasted mostly like the seasoning added to the shot. FYI: They’ll provide wine glasses if you buy a bottle.

We decided to have a Thursday paella action one evening so this place was the perfect choice. Location is at the RB International Boardwalk and anyone could easily miss this place if you’re just passing by. The seafood PAELLA is served on smaller plates rather than the usual and traditional bigger oval dish. It did taste good but one serving is good for one person only. That prompted us to order another one. So one plate has one big shrimp, 2 over cooked mussels, one Manila clam and 3 slices of bread. It’s like carb-loading! The sampler was quite interesting…:.more bread included. Olives were delicious. I enjoyed the Sangria. The lady staff was very attentive. Diners appeared happy that night. No other complaint but the bread. Paella itself passed my standard except the seafood pieces.

I came here with my boyfriend yesterday. We were just strolling around the pier when we saw this place. It seems like a nice, cute little place so we decided to check out the menu. While we were looking at the menu a super nice lady(who seemed like the owner, but we didn’t verify this with her) greeted us and explained a few items on the menu to us. Neither me or my boyfriend have had Basq cuisine before so the explanation really helped. We ended up ordering a beef sandwich and a lamb chop(I don’t remember their actual names on the menu but I will upload a picture of both of them). The lamb chop was amazing, and the potato sides that came with it was tasty. But the beef was so tough that neither me or my boyfriend could really chew it. Given that I’ve never had Basq cuisine before and the stuff on the menu was pretty exotic to me, I thought maybe it was just their style. So when the waitress came to check on us mid-meal to see if everything was okay, we asked her about it. A guy who seemed like the chef/owner came out to apologize to us and they ended up giving us free lamb chops and beef(I will upload a picture of this) to go(because we told them our parking meter was running out) on top of taking the beef sandwich off our bill. I’m the type of customer that when waiters and waitresses come check on me mid-meal and ask if everything is okay, I would always say something along the lines of «Yes! Thank you.» This is the first time I have done something otherwise because I was genuinely confused with the beef plus the restaurant seems exotic and I thought it was possible that certain cultures prefer their meat more cooked. We did not ask for or even expected that they would give us free food. I felt that they did this because they really care about the customers and they really went above and beyond with their customer service. Overall, I recommend this place. Super nice and friendly staff. And if you go, you should order the lamb!

What a disappointment. I came here with my partner and ordered the Tapas platter for 2 which was touted as a great deal for«only» $ 45 as part of Redondo Beach Restaurant Week. Let me tell you it wasn’t worth it. The food wasn’t terrible but not tasty, mostly bland seafood dishes. Especially the txipirones and this soup with shrimp(I forgot the name) were disappointing — almost no flavor. Other customers seemed happier but if you’ve ever eaten real Spanish or Basque food you know that it should be bursting with flavor. Apart from the food, I give two stars because they had a good Oktoberfest beer on sale and the waitress was very friendly, despite being slow — we overheard that she told another table that the other waitress didn’t show up. Oh, and the worst thing was that they don’t have their own bathroom and I had to go use the public one on the boardwalk which is pretty disgusting. Overall, I was upset because there are so many better places where we would have actually enjoyed our weekly Saturday night out.

Oh boy. Let me start by saying I will eventually try again and update. But, for now, it’s a… Oh boy. I’ll start with the good: Super friendly people. Very nice. We sat at the bar. Yes, lovely location, as others have said. I’ve come here a few times when it was the Lithuanian/Russian place. We were super stoked to have a Basq tapas place nearby. We were presented with an amuse bouche. Nice touch. Very tasty. We ordered a couple glasses of wine and the Bacalao Cakes.(Not sure of spelling).
Definitely the WRONG thing to order. The shape were that of fish sticks, the flavor was okay, but ICE cold in the middle. Inedible. The second order’s middle was *even* colder. We asked the server to touch the middle so she knew what we meant. She had the audacity to include the dish on our bill !! Mind you, we didn’t eat it! We drank our wine and left, not complaining about the bill. Not in the mood to argue. Here’s another disturbing thing– The man who was cooking, was clearly PISSEDOFF at us. He shook his head and mumbled loud enough for us to hear the entire remainder of our visit. First, it’s not even his fault, I don’t think. And second, I wasn’t at all comfortable sitting there, right in front of him, while he was clearly wanting to chop our heads off! Unacceptable. I couldn’t WAIT to get out of there. His actions made everything 10 times worse. Very uncomfortable. We were chased out by a woman(manager?) asking if we were comped. She took our receipt to fix it. Well, thank you for that! Your waitress must be nuts! Next, out came the two men(owners?) Oh God… They wanted to discuss it, I guess. Well, my husband was in a super chatty mood so, he’s talking away. The bottom line came: They were frozen, weren’t they? «Yes, pre-made, in house, then frozen, because too labor intensive.» I get it. Then don’t serve it at all if the center remains stone cold. Something is WRONG so fix it. Stop defending it. Or take it off the menu if you can’t figure it out. We were handed two«I’m sorry» cards good for a free Sangria, Kalimotxo. or draft beer. «Please redeem by 12/31/15.» Really? So we have a month in a half to use them which is too close for comfort for us. So, they’re useless. Maybe I’ll give them to a couple of locals next time we’re hanging out at Najas. I would suggest having no expiration date or allowing a longer timespan on these«sorry cards» because it’s a gift, given as an apology. I have no intention of rushing back especially after our waitress was dumb enough to charge us, and the chef acted so inappropriately. Again, we’ll come back in the future with high hopes. Not the near future, but future. I’ll be sure to update then, complete with rating.(Hopefully with more stars !!) Workers need to be spoken to about what is appropriate.

A great, casual tapas spot overlooking the water. Pro-tip: go for happy hour! My group of four went to A Basq Kitchen for dinner, which turned out to be during happy hour. We were able to really have some fun since some of the tapas were buy 1 get 1 free during happy hour. We ended up ordering a ton of food for the table including the tortilla vasca, potato bravas, croquetas de Jamon and Lengua a la Plancha. We also ordered the risotto, mussels and seared lamb chop. Having tried a nice sampling of the menu and everything listed above, I really enjoyed the croquetas, risotto and lengua a la Plancha. You really can’t go wrong. Having tried both the white and red sangria, I did prefer the red a little more. They came in nice large mason jars and that lasted a little longer than a typical glass of sangria. Our server was attentive to our group that ordered multiple rounds of food and beverage. It was just a really laid back environment with picturesque scenery of the ocean next to us.

Redondo Beach Pier Has finally Grown up Adding to the growing number of Gastro establishments on International Way on the Redondo Beach Pier complex is «A Basq Kitchen.» I have been to other Tapas places in the United States, but this place is the most authentic, judging by what I know from watching Rick Steves and Anthony Bourdain with the exception that you have to pay for the tapas, but the tapas are cheap and a vehicle designed to get you to drink more Sangria. This is a small place facing the harbor and gets the sea breeze on Summer afternoons. As you sit there you can pretend that you are in the Basque region city of San Sebastian. Luckily, the seaside motif reins on the menu with Paella Thursdays, cod fish croquettas, mussels, and seafarer’s stew. Of course, we all know Spain is famous for Jamon and Chorizo, so to have the full basque experience you need to order the charcuterie platter, which goes great with draft beer or wine. We ordered the Paella(BTW not made to order so it comes out quick), Seafarer’s stew, charcuterie platter, and lamb chop. Mind you, all of these plates are small, with the exception of the charcuterie platter that has a small photo on the menu and can easily be shared between 4 people. Everything was amazing! The chef is really into this style of cuisine and maybe even be a Basque. The Paella had fish, mussels, clams, shrimp, and chorizo with a slight hint of what tasted like saffron. The Lamb chop was tender and seasoned to perfection and the stew, was like something I can eat all day, marry it, and it can have my children! Although there was only one server, she did a really good and was making eye contact and small talk. The beer selection is pretty small with ABK representing King Harbor Brewery of Torrance, and my 5th favorite Czech beer on draft(Staropramen). Glad they don’t have Stella Artois so I guess they know their lagers. So if you are on the pier and are looking for some adult food and bev you gotta check this place out. I recommend parking in the lot off of N Harbor Drive or you can Park on Catalina at Emerald. I am looking forward to my next visit and Staropramen on draft.
