Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt

My family, friends and I received the worst service ever from this location. I was here on 12÷4÷15 around 9:30pm and noticed the workers started cleaning up and stacking chairs even though the closing time was 11pm. The workers increased the music volume so loud that we couldn’t hear each other at all. We were told they couldn’t control the volume when we asked to tone it down. Right after that comment, we noticed the music volume got even louder. We felt so unwelcome and felt like we were being kicked out. Horrible way to treat customers.

I cam here last Friday after having dinner next door with my cousin and her husband. This is like any standard frozen yogurt place: outdoor seating with umbrellas, indoor seating with bright lighting. There are many 10 different flavors that they offer at one time including some seasonal flavors (the one I tried was harvest pumpkin).
Toppings are not as diverse as I’ve seen in other places, but they do have pretty much one of everything to satisfy your needs. For example, they only have 1 flavor of those small popper things.
They are currently offering temperature changing spoons (think way back when we used to get those things in our cereal boxes). They were a hit with the kids who were around us as well as my 35 year old cousin-​in-​law.
The place is clean, the staff was pleasant, and they have specials on certain holidays if you decide to dine in– the next one is Halloween.

This was a very clean, bright Menchie’s and the girl working there was really cool. She brought my one-​year-​old a napkin and didn’t stop working/​cleaning the entire time we were in there. Most employees would just stand behind the cash counter waiting for the customers but this girl kept cleaning and doing her duties then would run back over to the cash every time a customer was there. Definitely a hard-​working kid.
My daughter loved the chalk-​board! The flavors right now are a little too «fall» for my liking (pumpkin spice, cinnamon spice etc.) but I think as long as they carry either Cake Batter, Red Velvet, or Dulce de Leche at all times people will always be happy!

I’ve come here a couple times hoping that the frozen yogurt will get better… it hasn’t. It’s just fine. They have a good variety of flavors but some of them seem off. The cookies & cream and salted caramel are pretty tasty, but the tart flavors are nowhere near as good as Yogurtland or PinkBerry. When I tried the apple tart the other day I actually gagged =/​There is an impressive toppings bar that the staff refills regularly. I’m more of a froyo person than toppings though so I probably won’t be coming back again.
They seem to have plenty of families coming in after dinner. Do yourself a favor and either walk here if you can or park on the street. The parking lot can get insanely busy and you’ll get stuck.

I guess that this is a modified Yougurtland. Same concept with similar choices. The choices were plentiful enough to give you cavities and elevated sugar levels. Good for old people; not so good for hyper kids. Then again, how can you go wrong with frozen treats!

Really good stuff! Fast, affordable and easy! Come here once a week, easy parking, super fast option for a delicious desert or even a snack of the middle a day! Highly recommend! The registers are also really nice and fast! Many tables outside and inside! The quality of their products are the best!

Came here with a girlfriend for frozen yogurt few months back. It was okay, i still like yogurtland better. Service was amazing!

Great neighborhood place to get frozen yogurt. No need to carry around a card if you join their member program. Just give them your phone number at the register. High chairs are available for families with little ones. Indoor and outdoor seating is available.

This is our go-​to yogurt place since it is walkable from where we are. It can get really crowded when it is warm outside or around dinner time. They change their varieties of flavors frequently, so it is fun to pick out flavors we want every time we visit. They now have the reward system where they keep in track of your order and you get certain amount toward your next purchase when you reach certain amount/​number of orders.

Really clean! Lots of flavors, toppings, and syrups. Employee was nice and helpful. :-)

We’ve gone back about 5 times since my first review…
They have these «low calorie» yogurts now and they are usually pretty darn good !
We like sampling 3 – 4 new flavors each time before we decide… we always try something different.
Good stuff… and fun times always…

I totally dig frozen yogurt and digging into mounds of toppings! You can have your froyo places that serve you the yogurt and the «standard amount» of toppings. I will take my options and choices and run to Menchies any day. If I want to mix Grasshopper lo-​carb yogurt with coconut/​pineapple swirl, I am in the driver’s seat! If I want a mountain of cheesecake bits with only 1 M-​n-​M (watching the waistline) it’s my prerogative. If I only want fresh cut kiwis and sweet strawberries, or if I want it to snow butterfingers on my dish, it will be a happy ending either way.
This location is very clean (and a wise friend told me how to tell when froyo machines are cleaned as often as they should be — Menchies always passes the test)! They do a great job of picking up after customers. I feel guilty if I spill because the counters are so clean. Employees are always nice and great with moving the crowds through!
Our Three Thumb review is 3 thumbs up! My 10yo daughter love to keep the spoons to take in her lunch. My 13yo son enjoys the free samples to try the rotating flavor choices. I love the Menchies loyalty club = free Menchies!

Pretty pricey froyo: 0.45/oz
I’m pretty boring when it comes to froyo flavors so I usually go straight for the tart. It was alright… a bit more sour than I’m used to. I like to keep my canvas plain and jazz it up with toppings.
What’s really nifty is that they have chocolate covered strawberries as one of their toppings! That’s pretty good. They have a good variety of toppings.
Service was polite. Indoor and outdoor seating. There’s apparently a frequent visitor rewards program?
Parking: disastrous. Small strip mall with a bunch of restaurants (Al Haram, Chicken Dijon, Bluesalt fish grill) and not much parking in the lot.

Who doesn’t love Menchie’s?
It’s a pretty straightforward place. You pick from several flavors, add toppings, and weigh it at the end. Simple and easy.
I like that they always seem to have different flavors, and will often have some sort of seasonal choice. They also usually have one or two dairy free options, which is great for my girlfriend, who is lactose intolerant.
They also offer some sugar free fudge and healthier topping options. So I don’t have to feel QUITE as guilty about my massive bowl of deliciousness.
Add in the typically friendly staff and clean restaurant, and you’ve got a pretty awesome place to treat yourself with some friends.

Menchies is great! They have a good selection of froyo to choose from and tons of toppings! We come here often in a large group and there is plenty of seating outside, as inside can get a little noisy.
I have noticed it seems as if their prices have gone up… now $ 0.45/oz. I could be wrong but I seem to remember it being a little cheaper.
If you’re craving some froyo, Menchie’s is great! Give them a try.

Battle of the Yogurt!
Sunday afternoon romp at 4:30pm!
Been to this location a few times before. If you’re planning on visiting during peak lunch or even dinner hours, parking could be tough since there are a couple of restaurants in the same plaza. No parking issues today! Went for the fruit punch sorbet and classic tart flavors today. IMO the classic tart here has more tartness than pinkberry and yogurtland. So if you like tart, get it here. Lots of dry toppings from classic peanuts, almonds to gummy bears and kit kats. Though this location gets a steady stream of customers, the place is relatively clean. Small space, not much room for a stroller. Bar, table and outside seating. Great to stay or to go. Flavors are good but not life changing. Still great for the price.

# Every yogurt place has its niche. Yogurtland has variety and natural flavors. Pinkberry is recognized for the tartness of its original flavor. Menchie’s however is targeted to kids. Kids like bright colors and sparkles and so the yogurt is brightly colored… but does not have sparkles — thank god — that would be a health violation. The flavors are off and do not hold a candle up to Yogurtland. I’m certain that they use particular mixtures of artificial flavors that appeal to kids’ taste buds.

After visiting this place twice, I can finally justify writing a review of this rating. I hate giving places a rating of 2 or below, but when something’s off… something’s off.
Let me preface this review by noting that we have a ton of frozen yogurt chains and non-​chains all across Southern California. After that whole yogurt craze settled down, I would say the key players today are Pinkberry and Yogurtland. These serve as my point of comparison, particularly Yogurtland. Each yogurt shops has a niche or else they would have died after the sweeping yogurt craze died down. Pinkberry survived because of its famous original tart flavor. Yogurtland survived because it offered a wide assortment of flavors. And Menchie’s? I couldn’t figure it out for a while, but after watching the Undercover Boss episode and tasting the yogurt in person, I figured out why. Plain and simple — Menchie’s niche is providing colorful and kid-​approved yogurt to KIDS. Not you sophisticated Unilocaler, but kids. Check out their website.
Enter Menchie’s world. Menchie is that cute, cuddly, and colorful frozen yogurt character that I want to strangle with my bare hands. Based on how the company portrays Menchie, Menchie has a really high-​pitched voice and always screams her own name «MEEENNNNCHCHHHHIIIEEES». She’s also friends with Mookie and the Cowabungas, who she teams up with to get the best milk from all of Menchieland. HEARTS HEARTS RAINBOWS CANDY RAINBOWS HEARTS. (

I appreciate that Mookie, Pookie, and Sookie provide milk that doesn’t have rBST growth hormone because we wouldn’t want that would we Mr. Potato Head, right? Sorry… hold on one minute, I’m talking to my tea cup buddy… Mr. Potato Head. I’ll let Mr. Potato Head explain why I was disappointed with Menchie’s. **silence** Okay I think Mr. Potato Head is tired so I’ll continue on.
I went to Menchie’s twice. The 1^st time I went I tried a little bit of half of the flavors available. I pay for the yogurt and commence eating. I immediately knew that the flavors tasted strange. Mint became toothpaste. Cotton candy became Red 40 and artificial flavoring. So on and so forth. I noticed that a lot of the yogurts had really bright colors to them, which was unsettling to me. After several bites, I threw away my half eaten cup. To me, the flavors went «WaAAnnNgggawannggwaaawanggg» in my mouth — what it sounds like when you bend a flexible aluminum pan back and forth. It was just weird.
I returned the 2^nd time recently to see if my 1^st time was just a fluke. It wasn’t. German chocolate cake tasted like my expired Starbucks cocoa powder, which is crazy why I even have it in my pantry. But that’s a different issue. Blueberry was colored turquoise and tasted like it had citric acid powder mixed in (it provides the sour tangy taste). Blue raspberry was bright blue and tasted like casein. What the heck? The protein in milk, Chris? Yeah. I use this dental product called Tooth Mousse that remineralizes your teeth and the product itself is derived from casein. The raspberry tasted just like Tooth Mousse.
Now that you know Menchie’s niche is selling colorful yogurt to kids, it all makes sense doesn’t it? I’ve been to a bunch of smaller yogurt places too like Tutti Frutti, Berry Fresh, and Yogurt Town and their yogurts have been okay tasting. I know Menchie is going to cry hearts and rainbows for my 2 star review, but I have to be honest. I’ll collect her rainbow tears because it supposedly makes me strong… STRONG LIKE BULL. Just kidding.
Stick with Yogurtland, Pinkberry, or the other good yogurt places you like going to. Menchie’s falls short compared to the yogurt titans. For example, Yogurtland too uses milk without hormones and antibiotics, but they go further by using actual ingredients when flavoring their yogurts and have live & active cultures too. The judgment has been entered. I’m going to ride over to Yogurtland on Menchie’s unicorn.

**MY FIRST SELF-​SERVE FROYO SPOT**
I think I’m still a Pinkberry or Rita’s Ice type of girl.
As one would expect, the first visit was confusing. Even though the layout of the store was pretty clear and organized from the froyo station to the toppings.
I didn’t know we can test their flavors, doh!
But I did ended up with their low fat froyo and a few toppings. Overall I thought the flavor combo was okay… but then again it could be because I don’t know how to combine flavors just yet. I’m certain Menchie’s fans would have better recommendations.
The spoons are super cute, I didn’t want to throw them away.
Parking is a major pain but luckily I went with my friend who lives walking distance from that plaza.

The customer service here is excellent.
They have what I consider a robust selection of toppings.
This is a self-​service system that you take a cup and fill it with as much (or as little) Frozen Yogurt as you want, and you can mix n’ match flavors. Then you move onto the toppings and add in whatever you want.
The price is based on weight, so of course if you pick heavy toppings it’ll cost you proportionately more.
They are customer centric in that they allow if not encourage flavor test tasting and have the little cups for customers to «try before you buy»
It’s a spacious location from the standpoint of the point of purchase and experience to navigate through the flavors and the toppings.
There’s seating inside and outside. I’d assume most of the time people buy FroYo on a hot day, so it’s nice to sit outside or take it to go. There’s not an abundant amount of seats inside.
With so many competitors like Yogurtland, Pinkberry, Tutti Frutti etc. There’s a lot of choices and people have their favorites based on all sorts of factors from selection to actual flavor of the Yogurt, as well as consistency. They all seem fairly similar to me, but I’m not a FroYo connoisseur (I’ll admit, I prefer Ice Cream), and this ranks amongst the nice options for selection and price in my opinion.
Parking isn’t bad, it can be easy most of the time, but they have a Chicken, Middle Eastern, and Fish restaurant that shares the same lot as well as other stores. At worst, there’s street parking in the neighborhood which is walking distance.
It’s a good neighborhood spot to get a frozen desert, since there’s no other stores that service the locals (walking distance for residential folk) like this, so is great to have around.

Menchie’s on Artesia (in the non-​beach part of Redondo Beach) is like just about every other self-​serve froyo spot.

This location is relatively clean with about 16 flavor options. The coolest new flavor was Pop-​arazzi Popcorn-​flavored yogurt that actually tasted like popcorn. It’s worth getting one of those little free cups just to sample it (even though it probably isn’t great with lots of toppings).
Parking is free in the small shared lot.
Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt isn’t unique, but it is reliable and that’s the reason locals go to this self-​serve froyo dealer.
