Pep Boys

NEW MANAGEMENT!!! I was so excited to learn this morning that this location is under new management! I had lots of troubles with the old manager, and now Abraham is the new one. They (Julio and Abraham) were so kind and helpful today and got me in and out so quickly! I will definitely be returning to this Pep Boys for all my car service needs. I have been going here for years but then too many negative experiences with the old management that I moved to another Pep Boys, but I thought I would just go this morning for an oil change and am SO HAPPY I DID! Happy to be back!

My experience with getting my car repaired here is as follows:
Last Saturday– Car had an issue, so I took it in for repairs
Sunday– Pep Boys told me they found the issue and said the cost would be $ 400.
Monday– picked up my car. The issue recurred before I got it back home (about two miles). Took the car back in.
Wednesday– they couldn’t recreate the error, so I picked the car up again. They just cleared the multiple warning lights on the car when I brought it in.
Thursday– Issue recurred 24 hours after I picked it up.
Friday– dropped it off, they said they’d look at it first thing Saturday.
Saturday– I called in for an update and was told nothing had been done. I was told they’d look at it first thing Sunday.
Today (Monday) — Call for update in the morning, nothing had been done. The assigned tech was out sick, so they didn’t do anything with it. I called back in the afternoon as was told the assigned tech had called out sick again, so they still had not done anything. And the gentleman on the phone sounded very surprised when I asked if anyone else was there that could look at it. That was a new thought apparently.
I’ve had some good service with them in the past, but this has been a total and complete failure on their part. In addition, they did not call me to give me an update while my car sat for three days on their lot with nothing being done.
UPDATE
Unbelievably, the service from the store has gotten WORSE since my review. My additional experience is as follows:
My car has been looked at (finally) and it was determined that the cause of the issue was a computer that Pep Boys was not able to get. I was informed that I would have to take the car in to the dealer to get this repair done. When I was informed of this, I asked for a refund of the cost of repairs that were done in an attempt to fix my car. He told me that I would be refunded the cost. I said I would come in this evening to pick up my car and he told me he would not be in, but would tell the Assistant Manager the details of my experience and that the refund would be given to me.
I have just returned home from picking up my car from the Assistant Manger and he informed me that he had no idea about the details of my car and would not be able to give me a refund on my vehicle repair. He told me I would have to come back in tomorrow to get the refund completed. This is EXACTLY the issue I was afraid of and was my reason for asking who I should talk to when I came in to pick up the car. I was told that I would receive a call back in the morning. However, I have been promised calls from the service department each of the last five days and have not gotten one single call from the shop in that time. In order to get any work done on my car or any information from the store, I have had to call in. I have made 7 calls in the last 5 days attempting to get this issue resolved. Based on this experience, I have zero confidence that I will get a call back from anyone at the store.

So far my radiator has been flawless. I just had my starter replaced and no issues… My old 99 Tacoma just needs a little TLC… and Pep Boys is the perfect place…

I had a nail in my tire and Joeseph was amazing. He helped me out super quickly and had me on my way in no time. Super impressed. Since I’m a woman and I know we are typically stereotyped I’m always skeptical of mechanics especially at big chains, but I felt like I went to my big brother for help and recurred compassion. Kudos.

Poor Service management. The individual employees are very nice and helpful – but they are getting poor, or no, direction.
For years, they had a drive-​up service lane. The other day I pulled in, and waited. Nobody came out. There were two PB techs in sight of my car, outside, but neither made any effort to offer even a greeting.
So I went down and stood in the garage doorway. 20 feet away, three PB folks stood, talking. One had a white (Mgr?) shirt on. None of them made any effort to address me. So I finally stepped in and asked, «Is anyone working the service lane?» Then, one of the techs turned to me and said, «We’re not doing drive-​up service any more. I need to move those cones. If you need service you need to go inside.» Yikes. So the new standard of service is the customer needs to figure it out themselves?
When I went inside and asked about the eliminated Service Lane, the Service counter person seemed slightly bewildered – as if it had NOT been eliminated. He said he wasn’t sure what the new policy was, instead. Yikes, again. This is a business, right? If you eliminated the hostess station at a restaurant, you’d want to at least put up a «Seat yourself» sign – so would-​be customers would understand how to engage your enterprise. Wow.

RUN AWAY! This place is overpriced and will try to rip you off — need for tires? Here is a price 20% higher than elsewhere. Break job? Break the bank. If you are reading this, trust the negative reviews and go elsewhere — plenty of good mechanics places in the south bay that won’t try to scare you into something you don’t need. 0 stars.

The customer service is just not very good and I just don’t trust them, I went in for a oil change and a tire, and my car hasn’t run the same since, how do you screw that up? but somehow they did go here at your own risk!!! but you have a better chance of winning the lottery then getting good service here good luck!!!

I was so impressed with their professionalism and concern for me as a customer. I highly recommend this Pep Boys for all your car parts and service. Joseph is the best! Thank you.

The worst customer service. Would not recommend. Went in to have my break pads changed and an oil change. Never received the oil change, only an excuse that they were backed up and didn’t have time for it in the eight hours my car was there. Also, didn’t make it out of the parking lot before I noticed my car was making a noise it wasn’t before I left it in there hands. The mechanic on at the end of the night agreed the noise was coming from the back of the car but couldn’t do anything about it because Julio had left for the night. So I brought it back the next day. The manager then told me the sound was «definitely coming from the front of the car» and tried to charge me $ 350 for the repairs. And refused to address any of my concerns about the damages or even go out and listen to my car himself.
Will never use there services again.

Tried to purchase a tire from these guys. I had purchased the SAME EXACT TIRE from another Pep Boys in San Diego. The sales guy refused to match the price saying that tires are different prices just like «houses in California are different prices than houses in Arizona». I can’t even begin to explain how incredibly stupid and irrelevant that analogy is. Anyway, they refused to match the price of another PEP BOYS and then hung up on me. Very unhappy with Julio. Don’t buy tires from this place. They apparently are a renegade store and don’t care about the Pep Boys brand/​pricing.

I’ve had a hard time finding car repair places that don’t overcharge you and this place is extremely honest. Multiple times they directed me towards the more affordable options and the best deals– and they got it done much faster than I thought they definitely care about their customers!
Great for car battery /​oil change

UPDATE I just wanted to bump up my review I have been back many times to pick up parts and fluids etc. The staff here I reported earlier are very helpful and I must say they have great service here on the sales floor. Friendly, helpful and fast from the manager (s) to sales people they all give the same attentive service. Keep it up!
I have not been back for any service issues since I have now taken upon myself to do most of my repairs from now on.

Same day appointment with Julio. Fast, friendly efficient service! I’m a regular client here and service has always been good! Shout out to Taylor nice guy! All paperwork placed in an envelope for future reference! Thanks guy’s

I’m not surprised too see a lot of poor reviews from pep boys potential dishonest, cheap parts and minimally educated employees. I would normally never return here but I had to recently be uses I had a battery under warranty. One of the technicians was very poorly educated on service and he seemed to only know how to push the buttons on certain testing equipment. I’ve had many other poor experiences in the past as well. Steer clear of there service garage for sure.

I dont even know where to begin. I dont want to even give them one star. Worse place ever to go to.

I can’t recommend this place for tires!
I purchased 2 tires online on Saturday and scheduled an appointment to have them installed at the store on Monday. When I went to the store Julio the service mangager/​asst. store mgr. told me that they did not have the tires I purchased in stock. It was beginning to sound like a «bait and switch» to me.
Julio told me that he has almost the same exact (same manufacture) tire for $ 20 more per tire. He also had some tires that were about the same price I paid online, but of inferior quality. (Think substituting a Kia for a Mercedes). Ridiculous! I was offered NO discount for the install service or the tires themself. I left the store driving on my spare tire. This is a poor way to treat a repeat customer. I’m never going back again.

This place has turned horrible. I came in for an oil change & an alignment and they tried to charge me a price that was unacceptable. I had a coupon for both, but they refused to give me the stated amount offered. It’s not like I was trying to get something for nothing, I was using the price on the coupon for the item that I wanted (an oil change). I have done this many times before at this place without challenges, however they have a whole new crew and a moron for a service Manager named John. A true dolt. Is it so much to ask for a person who knows what they are doing and tries to help the customer.
What’s frustrating is that this place in the past was so, so good, but the new set of people have turned this place into a churn for dollars. Make your own judgements if you choose, but I won’t be returning again to this Pep Boys again.

Do NOT bring you car here for repair!
I got a radiator replacement package that has led to thousands of dollars more cost to repair… This is NOT the place to get your car repaired, please take your car to a professional service with real experience fixing cars.

This was the fastest, most honest and best customer service we have ever had with our truck.
Joseph and Isreal took the time to call periodically to keep us updated on its status and did an outstanding job altogether (brakes). We will DEFINITELY be going back to see them for our tires and routers!

Went here a few times and I am extremely happy with the efficiency and helpfulness of the staff especially John!!! He is the service manager and has really helped me when I had car trouble. He wasn’t trying to upsale or provide me a service I didn’t need.
Based on my experience he is a great business man and I would come back here any day if I’m having car trouble. That is important to me especially being a woman I don’t want to be taken advantage of.
