One of the best Mexican seafood I had in the Bay Area!!! It’s Baja California, you seldom have this style in North Cal! We ordered half size Oyster, fresh and big sizes! We also had a whole size crab soup, big crab legs, taste fresh, soup delicious! Shrimp&Octopus cocktail fresh, delicious, and authentic, it’s 98% matching to the ones that I had in Tijuana! I’m coming back whenever I’m hungry for Baja style Mexican food! Love it love it love it!

Today was my first visit here, I had the seafood combo plate, pretty good I loved it. The food was good The restaurant was clean(didn’t go to the restrooms) Price was a little high Service was great, the lady who attend us did a great job she even offered some special salsa for the oysters that they have in back of the house… Definitely I will comeback to this place

This place is fantastic! Great place for seafood; the place is very clean and the service is friendly, just stupendous! Great family gatherings or a big groups. On top that during weekend they karaōke and live music playing. Looking for a place to eat shellfish and Mexican food you’ve come to the right place. I have never had a bad experience here, the ambiance makes it welcoming. The service is great and the food arrive just in time. If you are a first timer and love seafood you won’t have a problem on choosing what you want. I would I come back? Yes absolutely, best place in redwood city for authentic seafood. What needs improvement? The seating of the booth, can’t do much yet they have lost there cushion; almost feels like your sinking in.

Sorry but the food was HORRIBLE! Not to mention the service. My husband got a cocktel de camarones that had no flavor, even after he put so much lemons. I had a mojarra frita, which I could taste the old oil. The only good thing was their Michelada.

Yesterday, I sent my car to repair. During my waiting, I felt hungry. So I searched restaurant along the treet. Unfortunately, there were few restaurants and most of them were small and dark. I didn’t think they can provide good food until I found this restaurant. I ordered a deeply fried fish and it’s tasted fresh. Most importantly, the price was good. Honestly I have never eaten seafood so cheap.

This place has gone downhill and into the gutters. From the outside, the place looks like decent place. As soon as you walk in, you see a place that is poorly lit and looks like it hasn’t been cleaned in ages. We sat down on the booth, food on the seat that i wiped off before sitting. The table felt a little gummy. The highchair for my son seemed dirty too. From my seat you can see the walls are filthy too, like someone splash their beer on the wall and no one bothered to clean up. With just a little effort, wipe down of everything, the place may be ok. Waiter didn’t know the menu but i will let him slide, its not like this place is fine dining or anything, but you at least expert the waiter to know basic things like the difference between refried beans and whole beans. Lets move on… I ordered 2 tacos, ceviche tostada. Tacos were just meat and tortillas. The mean was hard and dry like it was reheated from early in the week or something. I had to as for cilantro and onions because it didnt come with it… Really? Ceviche was pretty damn good, no complaints there. Oh, did i mentioned my glass of water had a ton of lips stick on it? Yeah, a lot too! I hope they actually wash the glasses there… Its best not to think of it because i am already eating. I live in the area, there are not many marisco /seafood type places around. Too bad these guys dont have their act together or i would visit them more often… After this experience, i will never return and will never again recommend this place to anyone including my enemies. … I wrote this while on the can. I guess i was inspired by the awesome lunch(insert sarcasm)

As long as Rogelio is cooking,(Monday and Wednesdays) this place is great, otherwise too greasy and gets less stars.

I was excited to eat here. I ordered flautas and a squirt. They gave me the squirt about 15 min after, about 8 min after that, I was told that they ran out of rice. So then I changed my order to sopes and drum sticks, about 7 min after, they told me that they ran out of sopes so I cancelled my order altogether and decided to just be there with my party and grab something to eat after. About 5 min after that, the waitres told my friend that they ran out of coke and suggested squirt. I’m very fair and patient, but for now I’m giving them 2 stars. It’s a very bad first impression. Maybe I’ll go in again another night But for now, 2 stars is more than what they deserve from me. The up side is that the waitres was really nice, it wasn’t her fault. _______________________ UPDATE! My other friend ordered ice crem and they forgot. For that, I’m taking the other star off and giving them only one.

We went went last night(fri). It was a nice warm environment with a mariachi playing for tippers. Our waiter was very attentive. Even though he was very busy being the only waiter on a Friday night. I ordered chicken stir fry. Which I give one star to because it was every over cooked and dry. The only vegetables were green bell pepper and onion. So it was very disappointing. My friend ordered shrimp cocktail and he was pleased with his dish His daughter ordered a whole lobster that had to have been 3 lbs+. She really enjoyed it and it looked fresh. We had oysters for an appetizer. I feel everything was reasonably priced and the atmosphere was wonderful. They were setting up for karaōke when we left at 9

The food is pretty good. I’ve had enchiladas rancheras, sopitos, and fried fish. It’s pretty authentic home cooked Mexican food, which is what I like about this place. The margaritas are also good. The only thing I would say is a minus on the food are the chips. They are not home made. They taste like the bags of tortilla chips you can buy at the store. But the red salsa is very tasty. Would be better if they had the authentic chips to complement the tasty salsa. I would give this place 4 stars if it weren’t for the slow service. We ordered appetizers and they came after our dinner. The waitress seemed frazzled even though there were only 6 other tables. There were 2 other waitresses but they seemed to be hovering around. Our kids were getting impatient to the point that they asked if we could leave and go somewhere else. But I’ve been here before and know to expect slow service so I was prepared for this. Once the food arrived they were happy. So all in all, good food but don’t expect fast service and you’ll need to help yourself to a table. No host.

A few weeks ago I took my girlfriend and my mom here. I ran in to an old friend at this place, who I havent seen in a while. He used to run his own restaurant in Redwood City, now he’s working here, and another restaurant location in the Peninsula. His dishes continue to satisfy my appetite. It’s like, I’m addicted to flavor.

This place! Let me launch into the food before I launch into a history, or maybe I’ll try to do both at the same time. When I was a kid, I grew up in this joint. My parents loved to come here and order a big side of limes with the chips and salsa. I used to be ashamed — the banda and mariachi music was so loud, the drunk patrons would sing and shout and order more coronas, and street pedlers would come in and pitch their wears to us — usually fresh single stem roses. But no matter how ashamed I was, how loud it was, I would always want to eat a big mariscada plate I could never finish, and a tall glass of horchata, and maybe some flan for dessert. How stupid I was to be ashamed of being dragged here! I hated the music, hated how much I loved the beans n rice and tortillas, but then I moved away and god knows, I wondered when I would ever get to eat a big plate of mariscada again. It took me over 15 years to get back here, but there it was — still standing! And I dragged my British husband along too. No matter that he didn’t speak Spanish because I could do the ordering for the both of us. And even if you don’t speak Spanish, I’m sure you’ll get by here fine. My husband ordered 6 carne asada tacos, and I ordered the famous mariscada plate. It was just as amazing as I had always remembered! No body else does it like this. You won’t find any mariscada like this in the Northwest where I live. In fact, good luck finding this kind of treasure anywhere else in the Bay to be honest, not for these prices! I destroyed my mariscada plate and bloody mary, along with one single carne asada taco to boot. I had no room for dessert. We had to order extra limes and it was a great pleasure to douse my food in it. The mariscada comes lightly battered in a house blend of spices and the tortillas are made here fresh, just like the salsa. I really can’t stress this enough — if you have never had great Mexican food, if you know someone who doesn’t get much Mexican food wherever they live, bring them here if you get the chance. The whole thing is a divine experience and it’s an institution. You know what’s crazy? The waitress there was the same that served me as a kid. The Bay Area is getting super gentrified and spots like this on Middlefield Road may become a thing of the past in ten years. Don’t let them take the 7 Mares! Absolutely must try while you’re in the Bay. Redwood City, in my heart and in my blood just as much as El Salvador is — I’ll be missing 7 mares for the rest of my life.
