A year ago I was in an accident & had 2 cracked ribs. When I went to physical therapy, I was only receiving electrotherapy but I was really looking for therapy to help me get back to my weight training. When I asked the therapist when I could get back to weight training, he made it seem like it was months away. While at the PT office, I noticed a flyer for APE at the front desk. Since I could barely move my right arm away from my body, I started taking classes with the seniors in hopes to not lose mobility from just sitting while trying to recover. Even though I was probably half the age of the seniors, I started joining the senior class so I could stretch & get back to using weights. A few weeks later I was able to take a general conditioning class which required me to get on a mat & roll on my injured side. In a little over a month I was able to take a Level II Circuit class using heavier weight. My recovery progressed SO much further from exercise when I was barely getting relief from physical therapy or a chiropractor. Thanks to Scott who encouraged me to start taking classes after my injury! I never thought when I was starting with 1 lb dumbbells that in less than 2 months I would be using 20 lbs. Now I am back to lifting 200 lbs on a good day!

Are you over 55 and have a desire to become stronger and more fit? Want professional teachers/trainers that are dedicated and have years of Adaptive Physical Education experience? And all this at a nominal fee!(Scholarships may be available also). See below and check out their website . Located in the Community Wellness Center, across the street from the Veterans Memorial Senior Center(which is on Madison Ave., Redwood City). I joined this Adaptive Physical Education program after meeting one of the teachers/trainers, Scott, who thought I would benefit from their classes. I wanted to become more flexible, increase my strength, balance, and overall mobility. After enrolling in one of their classes I realized how important exercise is to staying healthy and happy too! I have noticed results from both the 45 minute teacher lead group exercises, as well as individual exercises on treadmills, wall pulleys, weights, leg presses, and other machines. Our co-ed exercise group also enjoys the social aspect of sharing stories, jokes, and keeping it all real while having fun. No stress or competitiveness here. And you will be getting positive reinforcements from Barbara, Program Manager, and her staff. If you have a chance to join any of the multiple classes offered, or want to tell your senior family or friends about the programs, simply look at their website and call or come in to join. Highly recommended!
