Hertz Rent A Car

Terrible customer service. I was in a hit and run accident and my insurance set me up with Hertz. Let’s just say my insurance company (Statefarm) had a lot to hear about it from me for working with them. I picked up the car and signed the necessary paperwork. Then I was asked if I wanted additional insurance for $ 11/​day to cover what my insurance wouldn’t. But what they didn’t explain to me, and what I didn’t know (I’m 18 and this was my first accident and experience) was that my insurance would cover everything anyways! So a month later when I had to return the car (my car was in the shop for a lonnngg time!) I was with my mother. She was surprised how much it came out to and asked about it, to which the employee (who we found to be the manager) explained I had purchased additional insurance. My mother then went on to explain that we didn’t need it because we have full insurance so it wasn’t necessary and if there was anything that could be done since I didn’t know any better because I’m 18 and it was my first time. To which he very rudely replied with attitude, «well that’s an adult isn’t it?» Where my mother once again explains I didn’t know any better and asked to speak with the manager. «Well I am the manager» he replied and my mother replied you’re the manager and that’s how you’re talking to me?” They went on, and finally he lays back in his chair, crossed his legs and arms, and said «well there’s nothing we can do.» Giving it one star because of the way we were treated & never going back!

I recently downloaded a new app called
and found a FULL size car for 12 days for 215.00. It seemed way to good to be true. I rented it July 11 to July 20. I went to the Unilocal reviews for this location and was very leary. That slogan «TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE» kept popping up in my head! That and the fact everywhere I tried to rent from wanted almost 400.00 due to the fact it is SUMMERTIME!, Needless to say I decided to rent here for budget reasons. I called the night before to confirm my reservation and was told for the best selection come earlier rather than later. I went as soon as they opened and was greeted by everyone including the gentleman who takes care of getting cars ready. They were all very nice. The address on the rental website is incorrect they are not on BEECH STREET they are on the El Camino and although the office is VERY small it was clean and sufficient. I was helped by Shamin and Bowie who got me through the process and offered to show me every car in that category to find which one was the MOST comfortable for my trip. They were amazing and even upgraded me to my favorite car a Dodge Charger. My experience was amazing and will be back again.

AAA organized a car for me here while my own was having work done on it. Hertz called to follow up on when I’d get the car, picked me up from the mechanic, and handled all the paperwork smoothly. There was a bit of a wait while actually picking up the car, even though the office was pretty much empty, but other than that things went well. Both staff members I interacted with were friendly and helpful, overall, just not the most efficient ever.

This location does not even deserve a 1 star rating but have no choice!
If your insurance refers you to this location which by the way has since moved to 1601 El Camino Real, ASK FOR ANOTHER LOCATION ! Worst customer service ever! For a manager to flat out blame customers in front of other customers is OUTRAGEOUS! My 18 year old daughter picked up her car rental after school and without me. I had no idea she was pressured and led to believe purchasing extra coverage was needed. I did not realize this until we returned the car today, ⁵⁄₂₂. I talked to the manager who was less than helpful and started to put the blame on my daughter making her cry! Asking me «why did she agree to purchase extra insurance» «why didn’t you call me after you found out?» This is after I told him I just found out today. I was reviewing the rental agreement which was taken out of the glove compartment as the car was inspected. Wes was INSENSITIVE and clearly did not want to help. I did not expect to be LECTURED! We were treated so poorly and I will never ever use Hertz again.
By the way, we went to the Beech location to drop off the car and there was a sign on the door that they have moved! No one even bothered to notify us of the change.

i initially made a reservation at Hertz Boardwalk in Redwood City. I showed up on time to pick up the car, only to be told they don’t have it. Hertz Boardwalk then called Hertz Beech St. and put me on the phone with Wes who then found a vehicle that would be available in an hour. Frustrating that i had to drive to another location… which was actually the fault of the Boardwalk location. Got to Beech Street and everyone was friendly. Place was run down but the staff made up for it. WES was simply outstanding and very helpful. Wes is one of the Best staff at Hertz that I’ve dealt with. I’m a Gold member, was President’s at one time, so I’ve dealt with a lot of Hertz staff. I returned the vehicle after 3 days and was helped by Cecil who was very helpful as well. Their phones rang a lot and they seem to be so busy but they always have a smile on their face. Thanks Wes, and Cecil too.

Terrible service mAde me wait an hour to get picked up and then had me wait another 30 minutes in line to get my car… State Farm should reconsider their deal with Hertz in this area given the terrible device they offer their members. If State Farm asks you to get your rental car from here, ask them for different rental car company.

I would just like to say that I had a very wonderful experience at Hertz. This was my first time renting a car. I will definitely be back to Hertz if at any point, I need to rent a car again. I have been telling everybody about my wonderful experience at Hertz. All the staff at Hertz were extremely welcoming. Everyone at this Hertz location were very helpful. I can say that Hertz provides wonderful customer service. I can go on and on. Again… Thank you Hertz.

This is the most ridiculous car renting experience! I made a reservation online at San Carlos location a day before. Next morning when I went to the location, there was NOTHING there! Then we called the store in redwood city, and was told that «though you made the reservation in San Carlos, you have to pick up your car in redwood city location.» So we had to drive back to redwood city, and waited for half an hour to get served.
Just before I was going to return the car, I got a phone call from Redwood City location, said they were closed on the day I was supposed to return the car. And I was told to return the car any time on the next day, with no additional charge. Okay, so I returned the car on the next day at noon. And waited for another one hour to be served. And then, I was charged more than $ 60 for the additional day. I said «I was told by one of your staff that I could return it anytime today.» One of the male staff in the office was very impatient and said back loudly“THIS IS YOUR FAULT, YOU SHOULD KNOW WE WERE CLOSED BEFORE YOU MADE THE RESERVATION.” But actually I was not informed at any time in any way that the location would be closed when I made the reservation!
Anyway, I was very angry and disappointed, especially when the staff just pointed at me and yelled «THIS IS YOUR FAULT»!!! I will never come back to this location again! No respect at all!!!

Aweful! I have been here twice because they are the preferred provider for Towne Ford. This location does not have cars available even when they have been reserved. I would recommend trying another location or company altogether.

The only reason I have this place two stars instead of one is because they’ve actually had vehicles for me when I’ve needed them. Unfortunately, the vehicle I usually get (it’s usually the same one) tends to look like it was out as the party wagon for someone’s 21^st birthday the night before and no one cleaned it.
I’ve never been there when there wasn’t a wait either. The first time I used them, I used the vehicle for Bout 5 hours. Turned it in and was done. A week later, someone calls me demanding to know where the vehicle is and telling me I need to bring it back in a rather disrespectful tone.
My biggest complaint is having to clean the vehicles I rent myself, when that’s what they have their work staff there for.
Also, the inside of the business is border line third-​world. It’s a trailer and all the walls are super marked up and gross. The chairs are so old and dingy I don’t even want to sit in them.

If I could give zero stars I would. I will NEVER use hertz again. They were absolutely awful! And I caution anyone from going to them in the future. Their contracts are full of hidden fees where you’ll have surprise charges on your card weeks after you returned your rental. The woman who helped me the first time was all alone and obviously needed another team member. And I had to wait forever to get a car. I felt like they were trying to trick me into extra insurance and a car I didn’t want or need.
WARNING: NEVER go over a toll bridge in their car unless you want to pay over $ 30 to do it! You cannot opt out of this program and it’s a pain in the ass to get any help as their toll company is separate from the main Hertz company.
I think hertz gets a lot of business because they are a cheaper rental company but you get what you pay for! Buyer Beware!

Pathetic. I reserved a vehicle two weeks ago. Earlier this week I spoke on the phone with someone in the office who was very helpful. Get there at the agreed pick-​up time and they don’t have a car for me. WTF, how was it a surprise to them?
We agreed to take a different type of car, then it took 30 minutes to do all the paperwork. The agent spent at least 5 minutes pushing their insurance package after I had already declined it twice.

I was forced to come here after I took my car into Towne Ford for a recall. (Towne Ford offers a free shuttle to take you back to your house or work). I opted to spend the $ 35 and get a car for the day. When I got there the guy behind the counter was on the phone with a customer that took about 5 minutes. He didn’t acknowledge me, look at me, or tell me it would just be a few more minutes until he got back to me.
When I finally had the chance to talk with him, the only car he said he had available was a Toyota Tacoma truck (Gas guzzler).
Later in the afternoon Towne Ford called me and said the car wouldn’t be ready for another day and they would pay for my car rental. A few days later I noticed the charge on my credit card and after trying to get a hold of Hertz for a few days — nobody is getting back to me to fix this. I’ve been calling them over and over again and most of the time can’t get a hold of anyone. When I do, I get put on hold for 5+ minutes.
Customer service is terrible here.

My gripe is based on this office, although it took place with Boardwalk VW, they are not responsible and I want to make sure that my complaint is filed properly.
Part of my new car leasing package included Auto Butler (some fancy pants clear coat finish to protect the paint) and with the first appointment at VW, a Hertz rental car is included.
I made an appointment with VW. They assured me that the rental car would be at the dealership for a smooth morning.
My appointment was at 9:30am. Today.
My car arrived shortly after 11am? Perhaps 11:15ish?
WTF.
I did not complain as much as the other woman waiting, as I knew throwing a tantrum was not going to make them hurry. Not that they cared. The girl behind the Hertz counter thanked me a couple times for my patience but really offered nothing of substance other than the cars were being washed and that the office they were coming from was busy. I’m confused how that has anything to do with the fact that I had made a prior appointment for a car and it should have been there. Yes, yesterday was Labor Day. I’m sure there were more rentals than normal. As the customer, this is not my problem, nor should it be.
Yelling lady got her car first. I was fine with it. She was late for a meeting.
By the time my car arrived, they asked to do an inspection and I noticed that the car was so filthy, I could not tell the dings apart from the bird poo and mud. Tsk tsk.
The manager called me to apologize, but only offered to cover the gas and provide more lame excuses. I was two hours late to work and would have gladly paid for the gas if it would have spared me the headache. His call did nothing to alleviate any of the frustrations I’d built up and honestly, only irritated me further.
**Note: I’ve only had one other rental experience like this (and it still wasn’t quite as bad) and they gave me discounted rentals for the future without excuses.

Ok, they came and picked me up, and gave me a rental car upgrade. The staff was way friendlier in person than on the phone, and I was in and out of the office within 5 minutes. The car was clean and in good shape.

The staff here is friendly, easy to work with. The location, physically, looks really temporary and run down, and it’s packed with new Fords being sold by Towne across the street, so it’s actually kind of difficult to get in and out of the lot.
I got a voucher for a free rental (so I can’t really complain or even comment about price), since my car was in the shop overnight.
I was given a Mustang.
I hate Mustangs.
I hate ‘em even more, now that I’ve had to drive one for 24 hours. It burned through gas, was too damn big, and I felt like such a douchebag driving it, especially in crowded San Francisco. Unfortunately this is all they had on the lot unless I wanted a pickup truck. So I was stuck with it.
The worst part is that whenever the speedometer hit 65, a notice came up to «Drive Safely — Check Speed» along with the friendly little Ford chimes, which, on my car, usually mean something’s wrong with the car. Being a Ford owner myself, I know that this little safety message is part of a feature called MyKey that parents can use to still hover over their kids while they’re driving alone. You have to have an authorization code to turn the system on or off. So, a note to Hertz Corporate: If you’re going to offer muscle cars, don’t then insult the people renting them by shaking your finger at them when they put the hammer down a little bit, OK?
The car had like ¼ tank of gas when I got it, but they didn’t give me any grief for returning it without a full tank.

Having a car have to go into the shop is not a very thrilling or exciting adventure for anyone. Going to an auto body shop that has got a business relationship, including a discount and pick up service for a temporary car is refreshing. It makes life a little bit easier to deal with. This Hertz is partnered up with Avenue Auto Inc in San Carlos and offers a rental for $ 20/​day.
It is very easy to miss this Hertz office, because it’s tucked away off of Beech Street, in a pop-​up trailer, in the Hopkins Acura dealership’s car lot. I never even knew it existed until we drove into the lot the other day, to pick up my rental.
I got a little go-​cart (aka some variation of a Nissan), which was definitely a downgrade from my regular ride, but hey, who can complain for $ 20 a day?! The staff here was very personable, sweet and efficient. I exclaimed I was in a hurry and they put the pedal to the metal! I normally opt for one of their competitors… but after this experience, I think I may come back. ;)

Hertz hurted my pocket. My $ 225 deposit went back to my account after 5 business days. Overall, attention was ok, good car.

These people always take good care of us and deserve to have high stars. drop off cars, pick up cars, bring people to the bank or home if they need something to complete their service. Thank you for all your help!

My experience with Hertz has been wonderful. I recently had to rent a car through them because of an accident. They were professional and quick. I was pleased with my Nissan as well. It was clean new and clean. I feel terrible about the previous commenter’s review, because I feel like we’ve been to two different Hertz locations!
They were hard working, professional and nice. I wanted to rent in the future and they even advised that renting on Mondays and Fridays (a.m.) are probably days I want to avoid because they’re slammed — catering to the customers that fly in to do business in Silicon Valley.
I like the convenience, the service they offer and even though the office is quite small and hard to find (behind a car dealership lot), I give props to their customer service. I really enjoyed the quality care and would recommend them to anyone. Just have some common sense and avoid renting when they’re slammed!
