I started paddling with Hui Wa’a over eight years ago and have stayed with the program ever since. The coaching staff is top notch and skews towards the«competitive» side in both the open(advanced) and novice programs… which simply means they train to race. That said, it’s a good fit for athletes of virtually all ages who love the active outdoor lifestyle. The paddlers treat the«club» like a family. They take care and encourage each other. Hui Wa’a launches out of Bair Island Aquatic Center, which is pretty simple but has some nice amenities like a hot shower, weights, rowing/paddling ergs, and a «real» bathroom, as opposed to port-a-potties. The club is pretty fortunate to have a variety of canoes to train/race in, including a Tahitian OC6 which is a lot of fun to paddle. They also have OC1’s, OC2’s and a surfski I believe. Bottom line is that Hui Wa’a offers a highly rewarding program. If you’re willing to commit, so are the coaches. They have trained and developed competitive crews that have done well in Southern California, Hawaii and even Tahiti. If you’re ready to paddle for fun, there’s definitely a fun crowd here. If you’re looking for competition, there’s plenty of that as well… either way, you’ll paddle hard and love every moment of it.

Love it here. I come here with my co-workers to paddle on Wednesdays. I been doing it for over a month now and is such a great workout. Beautiful scenery and great for people who love the outdoors.

If you are looking for a fun and active team sport, then this is the place to be! As soon as I joined last year, they accepted me as their family and welcomed me with open arms. This truly is a team that you can work with and learn from. I would recommend this club to anyone who is looking for an active lifestyle, fun in the sun or just some cool people to hang out with.
