As a Chicagoan, I was imagining more of an old-school Chicago-style butcher shop based upon the family history and positive reviews(from Tony Kornheiser of all people) with grizzled old butchers behind large display counters of meats and sausages. So, I was a bit surprised when arriving to find this place is actually quite small and tucked into a strip mall. However, the prime rib roast that we ordered was excellent and did not disappoint. The ground beef and round roast that we purchased were also very good. The only item that failed to live up to expectations was the ground turkey. They only had it frozen when we went and the texture was just not up to snuff when it was thawed and made into turkey burgers. But, all in all, the fresh options are all recommended.

Exceptional quality and pricey but worth every penny. This is one of those places that is definitely not mainstream but if you are any kind of foodie and appreciate high quality meats, this is your kind of place!

This place is great. My boyfriend and I were staying in Rehoboth during a rainy and cold May weekend and were hoping to improve our somewhat failed beach vacation by making ourselves a steak dinner on the grill. Hickman’s is a little hard to find — the address provided by Unilocal is different than what shows up on Google, and I can’t remember which is correct. I would call them before you go to ensure you’re headed toward the right place. Finding it was our biggest hurdle — but I won’t fault Hickman’s for that! Once we got there, we were greeted by two friendly guys behind the counter who you could instantly tell were incredibly knowledgeable about the meat they were selling. Being relatively new to grilling meat, we asked them what we should get based on the grill/seasonings we had and the kind of meal we were looking to make. They provided great recommendations(as we discovered later when we ate our dinner). Instead of trying to sell us some expensive meat rub or sauce(which they easily could have succeeded in doing), they told us to simply grill the meat, then salt it afterwards. That’s it. And it ended up being absolutely delicious. It’s expensive, yes — but you get what you pay for. High price for high quality meat and exceptional service. Skip the supermarket meat counter when you’re at the beach and treat yourself — head to Hickman’s.

If you are looking for something a nicer than Giant for your celebratory beach dinner, I recommend looking here. The steaks are hand cut and well marbled. They also have a good selection of sausages. If you want something more exotic than the standard beef cuts, you should pre-order. Even flatiron steaks require special order.

Wow! I do not spend enough time at the Butcher Shop. Hickman’s is the real deal. Like Sam the butcher bringing Alice the meat, I got the bomb diggity hook up. Back story — I was having a crab feast & I had a bunch of out of towners, I was not sure each one of them would feast properly on Blue Crabs, I decided to throw together some Burgers as a filler food. Playboy magazine had run an article that month on «The Perfect Burger», they took all the best qualities of ten Burgers from around the world. They recommended Umami’s burger blend: 50% Sirloin 25% Chuck 25% Brisket Hickman’s ground it up while I waited, it was delicious, I also asked for & received 2lbs of thick cut bacon, mmmmm Bacon! Great Place, can’t wait till I get a chance to go back.

This is a great little meat market. They have a lot of variety and great quality meats. The staff is super friendly as well.
