When I lived in Texas, I thought that drive-thru beer barns were the best drive-thru invention. I now know that I was wrong and that drive-thru ice cream is where it’s really at. And I’m not talking Dairy Queen-style. I’m talking A+ top-notch ice cream and shakes. The Dark Chocolate Ice Cream Shake may rank high enough to be last meal on earth quality. Because really, what’s a last meal without some dessert to go with it? I’ve always found the staff very friendly and quick. The Moo Thru can get busy at times but I’ve never had trouble finding parking or waiting too long in the drive-thru line. This may be because you cannot order some of the menu items in the drive-thru and thus cutting down on the big waits. Go out of your way to get here if possible!

Seriously, this is some of the best ice cream I have ever had! Recently, I’ve been having to drive to Charlottesville pretty regularly, and Moo Thru caught my eye — not only for its pretty recognizable building(it looks like a barn) but also the long line or otherwise groups of people wrapped/huddled around the building. Naturally, I had to stop by and see what the deal was, and I’m sure glad I did. My first taste this Sunday won’t be my last! The ice cream is so good! So creamy and milky. Moo Thru definitely lives up to their promise of serving«real ice cream from real dairy farmers.» They had a nice array of flavors, including sugar free options. I had the coffee and Holstein(vanilla with chocolate chunks) in a waffle cone. I have to say that I think that waffle cone was also one of the best I’ve ever had. It was still slightly warm when I got it. Nice and crisp without being overly hard. Really a perfect complement to the ice cream. Moo Thru serves a variety of other ice cream treats and even milk! I’ll definitely be stopping back again!

After driving by this cute place several times and noticing a long line almost every time(especially during warmer months) I had to give it a try! They also have drive-thru btw, which is absolutely perfect for lazy people like me. They have a good variety of flavors and they change by the season as well. We tried three different flavors: vanilla, cookies & cream, and coffee. They were all delicious and fresh! The coffee especially tasted just like coffee(*drooling). The line can be long sometimes but I think it’s worth the wait.

Every time we drive down US-17, I make an excuse to divert to Moo Thru if I can for their awesome ice cream and fresh milk. They have a stable of regular flavors like mint chocolate chip and raspberry that I love, which is supplemented by seasonal specials like pumpkin, apple pie and snickerdoodle around Thanksgiving. Everything tastes fresh, in fact the raspberry comes with seeds in it so you know they’re using real berries. While I live too far away to come here regularly for milk, they sell reuseable glass containers for whole and chocolate milk that is fresh and local.

There’s nothing not good here. The ice cream is so smooth and creamy… A perfect blend of sweet and flavorful. They have a good array of flavors and their waffle cones are 100% yum. To quote Michael Scott, you’ve gotta try out this place«a.s.a.p. as possible»

I’ve been to Moo Thru countless times and I’ve never been able to write a review because it’s too good for words. First, Moo Thru is not ice cream, it is delightful nourishment from the Gods; and secondly, it is literally never too cold for this delectable treat. I can’t say anything bad about Moo Thru, from the freshly made warm waffle cones your ice cream is served in to the delightful staff Moo Thru is everything you want and more.

The perfect just-about-halfway stop between NoVA and Charlottesville for ice cream! So fresh(like these cows were probably milked yesterday to make this ice cream) and delicious, with lovely seasonal flavors. If you get the waffle cone or bowl, they’ll make it fresh and it comes out warm with your heaping«scoop» of ice cream. I can hardly ever finish a small – they really pile it on. Which is awesome. The wait time can get a bit long(especially in the summer), and it’s closed on Mondays. Just something to keep in mind! A quart of ice cream to go is $ 8, which is super reasonable. I really enjoy their blackberry, dark chocolate, Holstein(vanilla with chocolate chunks), coffee… basically everything. It’s so good. It’s a game-changer. You should go.

Super cute ice cream and dairy bar, with the day’s flavors posted on a chalkboard and lots of friendly workers to take and fill orders. Treat yourself to a waffle cone! I loved the mint-chip and chocolate peanut butter. Covered seating area with lots of picnic tables is just off to the side, and restrooms are clean. Watch out for cars zipping into the drive-thru. A fun stop in Bealeton!

Homemade ice creams and cones… Plus they serve regular lunch foods too(bbq sandwiches). Love stopping here on my way to Charlottesville. Makes the drive a little shorter w/an ice cream cone.

Ice cream, sundaes, shakes, and milk made from locally sourced dairy. Fresh made waffle cones smells heavenly. Fast, friendly efficient service at walk-up counter and drive-through. Plenty of parking and outdoor seating. My chocolate malt shake was terrific, but my hot dog never showed up.

The ice cream here is very fresh and delicious. They have a nice variety of flavors, most are listed on the site, sometimes not listed on their signs outside so if there’s a flavor your saw on their website but not on the signs outside of the ice cream barn(the building is shaped like a barn, how cool is that?!) don’t be afraid to ask the cashier to see if the flavor is available. I’ve heard every flavor they serve is worth trying, I personally enjoy their cookie dough and holstein ice cream. Very creamy and delicious! Every flavor without cookies is gluten free, they have sugar free options, and sorbet as well. If you don’t live near the ice cream shop, it’s worth a drive out there.

Looking for something to cool us down en route from Charlottesville to DC and Unilocal led us here. Luckily we came before the long lines started forming! It’s good ice-cream but I wouldn’t wait more than 10 mins for it on a hot day. Flavors were somewhat limited today– we had the blackberry and vanilla on a waffle cone(the waffle cone was still warm!) and a cup of mint chocolate and cookies n cream. Maybe I’ve been spoiled by places like Salt N Straw in Portland but it wasn’t the best ice-cream ever. Definitely good for a road side stand but I wouldn’t go out of the way for it. However if you’re on the road and want some local ice cream and the line isn’t too crazy– then def stop by.

The ice cream here is AMAZING. Sometimes the lines are long, sometimes there is no line — but I always have to stop by. The flavors change/rotate, but if gingersnap is ever there you MUST try it! I love the ice cream here because it’s always cold, thick, and creamy. I’ve never encountered runny ice cream here, even with the scorching heat. You can just taste that’s it’s dairy-fresh ice cream. I always feel so sad when I finish the last of it T^T Overall, if you ever pass by, I highly recommend you stop by! You won’t regret it!

This is pretty much the perfect roadside ice cream place. It’s right on a highway junction in more-or-less the middle of nowhere. They have lots of different interesting flavors that are always rotating. The last time I got key lime and it was the best key lime ice cream I’ve ever had. You can get both waffle cones and waffle bowls. The idea of a waffle bowl seems idiotic until you have to try to eat ice cream while also entertaining an 11-month-old – the ability to put the ice cream down is key. They also make some food. I had the chili cheese dog and while it didn’t knock my socks off it was a far cry better than the usual«something we threw in the microwave» chili dog. The only downside is that it can get busy.

You take notice when you see lines every day during the summer months. My favorite things about MooThru? — It is real dairy, if you doubt, take a look behind the red shed out building and you will find a large collection of returnable glass milk containers. — They offer the K9Cup, so «Fido» can have his/her share too — They offer Sorbet, so even a «Casein Allergy or Lactose Intolerant» person can share in the experience. I personally have taste tested the Raspberry Sorbet and would recommend it to anyone. — They offer«sugar free» so even a Diabetic can indulge! — The lines move fast! On a busy day, all three windows are open for business. — Most of the employees are local area teenagers. This is something that is often overlooked but is very respectable. I appreciate an employer that will give someone their first job! — Outdoor seating and plenty of it! Whether you have a Rt 15 caravan on your way to a summer camp destination or are a couple, there are plenty of picnic tables(both shaded under a tent) and open air available. My least favorite things about MooThru? — Very small to no social media presence. I saw a number of ice cream licking selfie taking Millenials, but I was unable to find an Instagram account. I did find a Twitter, but it seemed it was created in 2010 and never used since that time. — I want to know more about the farmers, I felt a lack of connection to the ice cream, I read the slogan, Real Farmers, Real Ice Cream and see the evidence, but who are these mystery men and women? Well worth the stop or even an afternoon jaunt away from the hustle of Northern Virginia.

YUM! We only stopped here because we saw the line on a Friday afternoon, and it was quite a delicious stop. Here’s my assessment of the 3 flavors we tried: –Peach: The only disappointment. Probably locally sourced this time of year, but it was just too sweet! I’m used to Asian desserts though(which aren’t very sweet), so maybe the average American would like this flavor. –Cappuccino with no sugar: Initially, I thought this flavor was bland and didn’t have enough sugar, but actually, it really grows on you. I think the reason my initial impression wasn’t great was because I’d just tried to the peach flavor, which is overpoweringly sweet. –Pink grapefruit: I don’t know if this flavor had milk in it but it was creamy, sweet, and sour — delicious! By far my favorite flavor. I don’t know the next time I’ll be in the area, but this could become a tradition on the way to Charlottesville.

We decided to reverse 7.5 hours of our Old Rag climb with this trip, but I don’t regret it one bit. My ice cream aficionado friend dreamed up the blackberry and dark chocolate combination and between playing with the pup in front of me and attempting to piece together comparable combination, I ran out of time and copied her order. But our friend after me ordered the same thing, and our last overachieving friend opted to add a scoop of grapefruit on top. The blackberry was light and refreshing and though the dark chocolate on its own was a little to dense for me, the combination was delightful. I’ll be back the next time I’m headed hiking or to Charlottesville!

We have driven by Moo Thru too many times to count and FINALLY stopped for ice cream after dinner last night. I must admit, the chaos of «order here» «pick up here» and lines of people everywhere plus the 15 minute wait to get a single scoop of ice cream will probably deter me from future visits… but the ice cream itself is delicious. My chocolate was light and airy, but creamy too. My husband’s mint chocolate chip was super minty – like eating an Andes’ Crème de Menthe in ice-cream form. And our friends that got shakes finished theirs in record time with no complaints. Final thought: I am glad we stopped, but this place would be SOOOOO much better with a little organization.

Delicious ice cream! I had the darkest dark chocolate ice cream I’ve ever had in my life. This stuff is the REALDEAL… If you’re on a diet, steer clear! If you are expecting fast service, steer clear– they do their best but the demand is so high, on busy weekend nights it’s very slow. But 100% worth the wait. I wish it was closer to Arlington! I’d weigh 500 lbs but I’d be happy :)
