I had breakfast here a couple of days ago. I must say for a restaurant in a hospital it was pretty good. My ham steak was very big. Sadly my eggs were a little over cooked but still edible. The selection wasn’t huge but enough different choices to find something you’ll like. The service was nice also. Hope I don’t need to eat here again but would feel comfortable if the need arose. Why can’t the food they serve to you as a patient be 4 star worthy?

This is a café /bistro inside the Renown Hospital near downtown Reno. So, it’s odd it would get a 5 star review, right? Well, this is actually an excellent café /upscale coffee shop. I discovered it about 3 years ago when I was needing cancer treatment at the hospital. So, whenever I’ve needed to go to the hospital or one of the medical centers nearby, I try to time my appointment so I can get brunch or lunch at Artisans, It’s really excellent for this type of food. Probably another reason I give it 5 stars is because the staff is always low key and friendly. Just what one would hope for in a setting such as this one. And, the café is clean, bright and seems to be well-managed.

When the hubs suggested that we go to lunch at Artisans, I expected your typical hospital cafeteria that I’ve been eating at ever since he was in med school. You know the type: you walk through, grab your food at a hot station, throw a bag of chips on your tray and proceed to the cashier. Artisans is a place to eat inside a hospital, but it is not a cafeteria. It’s probably not worth going to if you’re *not* in the hospital, as the fare is your standard diner/café/sandwiches, soups, salads, burgers, etc. There is comparable food elsewhere in Reno that doesn’t involve parking in a garage and navigating a hospital. But if you are there, it’s a really nice place to eat and the food is not only tasty but reasonably priced. I had a salmon caesar salad that was about $ 9.50 and it came with a HUGE piece of salmon. The dressing was a little thin for my taste but it was still flavorful. The hubs had a tuna melt which was also really good. Everything tasted fresh and it’s all prepared to order, so it’s definitely a nice addition to the hospital.

Breakfast as it should be, simple, hot, hearty and affordable. Someone told me that this was one of the best breakfast in Reno; which is the first time anyone had ever said that about hospital food before. It was pretty good.

The food here was good. The quality was enough that it deserved more than three stars. The waitress was friendly and was willing to ask in the kitchen when I had a question about the food she wasn’t able to answer. I was surprised by the wine collection. They actually had wine I would like to drink — a Handley gewurztraminer, a Rudi Wiest riesling and a Fpur Vines zin. You can buy he wine and drink it for lunch or take it with you.

This is the former Remedes, located in Renown Medical Center. Atmosphere is open, airy and pleasant. Service is efficient and very pleasant. Food is well prepared, presented quite nicely and very good. Prices aren’t inexpensive($ 29.08 for two), but it’s worth it, especially for a hospital location. They also do catered events within this location. If you are hungry, at the hospital, you could grab some food here and not be disappointed.
