I have been going to Franz’s for years. The baking is top notch and its in a great location for road bikers, runners and walkers. Get some exercise on the beautifully groomed Caughlin Ranch trails and stop by Franz’s for an epic treat. Tell Don that PJ, Ivy and Daisy sent you!

I thought this was going to be my go-to place for when I have company in town. I had eaten there twice and enjoyed it. The third time my guest and I were standing at the counter giving our order to the new(to me) waitress who suddenly yelled, «What the f**k!» and went on yelling as she deserted us and ran out the door. The other employees were so taken with her display that they too ignored us so we left and will not be going there again.

I really like this place but when we stopped in this afternoon the person taking our order got distracted and totally ignored us. Very unprofessional, we left and ate somewhere else.

You have to try their goulash. It’s delicious. They have an assortment of pastries that other traditional bakeries do not have. We love coming here.

Franz’s is my favorite place for a quick bite with a tummy treat. I’m obsessed with the almond croissants. Everyone in there is so sweet and always helpful.

The pastries and food are perfection. The cream puff, my favorite, is small but is so rich and creamy with a raspberry dollop in the center. Don, the chef, and his servers are very personable and greet you as you enter and leave their bakery. They also make excellent sandwiches from their specialty breads, salads, and quiches. Even though I live in cold springs, it is worth the drive.

Good baked goods, but not the best I’ve had. I had the artichoke quiche, mixed fruit tart(which was better than I had anticipated it to be). My husband got a ham and cheese croissant and chocolate cake. We will be back

I was just pulling up to Franz’s when I saw the closed sign and a gentleman about to lock up. He must’ve seen the utter devastation on my face and gestured towards the door, offering to let me in. I only wanted a few of my favorite cookies to seal 2015 with a kiss, and Don was so gracious and kind to let me in for a few goodies. I love their products anyway, but to go out of the way like that makes me want to support them all the more. What a nice thing to do.

You will want to buy the stoellen. It is pricey but worth every penny. Served with coffee or tea and tastes wonderful, has some almond marzipan in it. I love the linzertorte tortes, both apricot and raspberry. Of course their cakes are the best and people always rave about them. We had a hot ham and cheese in a croissant fresh from the oven. You can’t go wrong here!

This has been one of the go to for great pastries since I arrived 6 years ago. I used to order their tiramisu for special occasions, and i went there recently and they took it off their menu because of the time taken to make it. But that just means I’ll just have to try other cakes until I find another favorite! I absolutely love their croissant. Croissants are hard work and this bakery has one of the best in Reno. The outdoor patio is nice during the summer, the indoor area is small so if you want to eat there you might need to cozy up to someone’s table. Everyone that seems to go there is super friendly. I haven’t had any trouble sharing tables. Also another plus is that the trail for the Mayberry walking path is just right there.

Nothing short of amazing foods and treats here! Far and away the best eclaire I have ever had. Sandwiches are freshly made and tasty. The staff is friendly, helpful, and attentive. This is how local businesses should be run. Fantastic!

I love that the workers there are so authentically friendly. The fruit and lemon tart was soooo delicious. Nice, fresh and well balanced. They really got me with their crust. It’s more of a dense shortbread and it matches perfectly with the fillings. The Goulash was pleasant and fun to try. It reminded me like a tomato based pot roast. I’ll definitely be back to try their other goods.

We were on the hunt for confections this weekend! This was the day of our departure, and we wanted to try one more stop. I was really looking forward to trying the chocolate chip raisin bread pudding that I saw on Unilocal! It was Labor Day, so we may have come on a bad day. It was around 10am in the morning, but they seemed to be out of many things. Several people had asked for the chocolate chip croissants, but they were out, so that must be a real draw. I didn’t readily see the chocolate chip raisin bread pudding. The items they had in the glass looked like raisin to me, but I decided to ask the gals behind the counter anyway. One of them told me it was either chocolate chip or raisin, so I asked for chocolate chip(warmed) and hot chocolate. RAISINBREADPUDDING: I took a bite, and it wasn’t warmed up enough, but it was ok. I kept taking bites, and no chocolate chips! I finally took it apart and nope. No chocolate chips. LOL. I went to the counter, and I asked again, and a different gal said it’s kind of difficult to tell the difference. She closely examined the remaining ones, and while she was hesitating, I said it was ok. I’m a big chocolate fan, so I’m pretty sure the other ones were just raisin as well, just as I had originally thought. She at least offered to give me something else, but I said it was ok. The raisin bread pudding was ok. I’ve eaten this version before, and I’ve definitely had better elsewhere. HOTCHOCOLATE: This was at least better than many other places. It at least tasted chocolatey. I’m very picky with my hot chocolate, and it’s a bummer when most places make versions that taste pretty much like hot milk. It wasn’t completely spectacular, so I wouldn’t make a trip here specifically for it. CHOCOLATEMOUSSECAKE&CHOCOLATEBROWNIE: I requested one of each to go. The gal at the counter offered to give one for free, because I didn’t receive the chocolate chip bread pudding, but I said it was ok, because my boyfriend had eaten it. :) I tried the cake and the brownie in the car on the way home, and I thought they were ok. Nothing absolutely memorable. it was a cute spot, and the gals were super nice. If I was in the neighborhood I would definitely stop by to try and grab that elusive chocolate chip raisin bread pudding, and that much requested chocolate chip croissant. :)

Let me start by saying – if I could spoon with a bakery it would be Backstube. I wouldn’t even get handsy, no fake back-rubs, just straight up cuddling. I adore this little bakery! My wife and I wandered in after a mediocre late lunch at a different eatery. We needed something to excite the palette. To brighten the afternoon… Sharpen the human experience… Baked goods right? That’s what I said too! So we walked in and it is warm and inviting and smelled just like my grandma’s kitchen. I cannot begin to describe to you what they have behind glass at Franz’s. I won’t do it justice. You need to come in and see it for yourself. After much debate we settled on some tarts and iced coffee and sat down to eat. I don’t really notice things like closed signs or business hours or things that aren’t baked goods but my wife wondered aloud when they closed. I asked at the counter when they close and the young woman working there said about 5 minutes ago. Whoa! I thought – I am not one of those people who stays past closing time. No way, no how. I went to grab my coffee so we could leave but the two women working insisted we stay and relax and enjoy our coffees. Yes. That happened. She said they had a lot of cleanup work to do and for us to just relax. Yes. She used the word relax. It felt like hearing I had just won the publishers clearing house sweepstakes. I looked around the café to make sure I wasn’t being punked. Then I sat down and I – relaxed. We decided to buy them out. No. That didn’t really happen, but I wanted it to. Instead we bought cookies to take home to our girls. Unfortunately the box was stolen or lost or just disappeared into the abyss. I dunno, but they didn’t make it home. This bakery is special. It’s a happy warm little place and you must visit. You must. Just go.

Franz’s went above and beyond normal customer service to provide me with a last minute birthday cake. I ordered a german chocolate cake and not only did they make it fresh that same day, the person I ordered it for said it was one of the best cakes they’d ever had. I will definitely be back and would recommend them to anyone looking for amazing baked goods.

In town from Las Vegas and a friend of mine who is a former Reno resident recommended I give this place a try. I went with the Black Forest Cake and the Chocolate Chip And Raisin Bread Pudding. Had I just had the Black Forest Cake I would probably give this place 4 stars. It was very tasty. However, I had the Chocolate Chip and Raisin Bread Pudding and it knocked my socks off. I am quite the bread pudding connoisseur and this was without a doubt the best one I’ve ever had!!! If that weren’t enough, a man who I believe to be the owner was there. He saw me eating my cake and that the bread pudding was sitting there uneaten. He asked me if I had had it heated. Before I could even finish saying no, he picked it up and said let me heat this up for you. With that said, I was very impressed by the customer service. If I ever find myself in Reno again, I’ll certainly be stopping by this establishment and I recommend you do the same!

First time been here so i was so excited about it, and i knew they’ve black forrest cake too, so i more excited to try this bakery. The black forrest was yummy, soft and not over power with sweetness & the cream was good too even the cherries wasn’t sweet. The fruits danish & pie were perfect, very worth it. Price is average, and service was friendly and nice too. Place a bit small inside(doesn’t really matter if you just want to buy to go some cake /pastries) but they’ve outdoor seats too.
