Best place in Reno to get Filipino or any type of oriental food. They have a very wide selection of products and the staff is always friendly and polite. They also offer a selection of services. I always stop by here to shop when I’m in town because there is nothing like this place in the Sacramento area. Snacks, drinks, frozen food, meals, etc, and everything in between, they likely will have. Have yet to find anything overpriced. Highly recommend just stoping by and browsing their selection if you’ve never been to this shop. Will update this review in the future of necessary.

I drive by this place about once a week and I always ask, «What the hell is a Melvicky?» I had Googled it and nothing turned up for Reno. So I decided to go in today. Turns out it’s an international store. Mostly Filipino, but some other items. Some fresh foods. A lot of packaged foods. Decent selection. The Melvicky is compression of the first name of the two owners, Mel and Vicky. So I came in to write a review for Unilocal and it turns out someone had written one a couple of years ago. I don’t know why this didn’t turn up on Google.

A family friend who relocated to Reno a few years ago discovered this Filipino grocery store from the owner of Pearl’ of the East Restaurant down the way. Small grocery store with just the right amount of ethnic goodies to fulfill cravings for pan de sal, chicharron, hopia, snacks and ingredients for ginataan mais/bilo-bilo! With a huge storm front coming in on this fateful evening, we just HAD to have our ginataan(sweet rice ‘porridge’ with coconut milk and other yummy ingredients)! Three stars for having our ingredients(note: they didn’t have Borden brand condensed milk)… perfect home comforts for«ginataan weather!» Other notables: — located right beside a ginormous warehouse building with an equally ginormous sign reading«Susie’s video store!» — open at 1p on Sundays since they have church goings-on in the a.m.(I’m told the owner may spontaneously shout«hallelujah» while ringing you up, as she watches/listens to her church shows). — photos of exterior forthcoming(I wouldn’t want anyone to get confused and inadvertently park at the neighboring lot… teehee.
