Old World Coffee is located at 104 California Avenue. There are many coffee shops in Reno. There are a few that stand out and Old World Coffee does just that. The atmosphere is quiet and relaxed. It was nice to sit back and be able to listen to the barista describe his the drinks to the customers. The barista was also very nice and polite to every customer that came in. I will most definitely come back to Old World Coffee. 5 stars!

I had the orange blossom(or something like that) iced coffee and it was quite exceptional. However, the employees who work their were more focused on their cell phones vs. their customers. I think I waited for 3 min before the guy completed his text. And he did not seem interested in helping my friends and I when we had questions regarding which drinks to purchase and how their shop works. Wont be returning unfortunately.

Old World Coffee has quickly become my favorite place to get a latte. Their menu is small, but their offerings are thoughtful and consistent. My favorite part is the midtown vibe, without the perceivable exclusivity(or snobbiness at worst) of some other high caliber coffee shops in town. My husband vouches for the quality of their straight espresso, and my favorite(though sadly seasonal) is the Winter Sun, with lemon and brown sugar.

I have visited Old World Coffee a few times and with each visit, I grow more fond of this business. The staff is patient and helpful, and they know their coffee well. The menu selections are somewhat limited, this is no Starbucks, but everything is pretty good. Old World Coffee may be well known for some of their more unique drinks like orange blossom latte, but I’m not a huge fan.(Orange and coffee is just weird to me). However, their regular coffees, teas, and espresso is absolutely great! I find the Old World Coffee is almost always busy and its difficult to find a place to sit down to enjoy the coffee; but other than that, this is a unique space and I’m glad that it is a part of our Midtown district.

At first glance, it would seem you’ve stepped into another hipster new place in Midtown Reno — except for the fact you’d be sorely mistaken. Parking Outside in the front, you’ll find 1 hour street parking, 2 hour parking on the side street, and you can find one of 40-some parking spots in the rear-side parking lot. Tip: Look for the spots labeled 100 California. Atmosphere Outside environment is busy. Riding the line between DT /Midtown, you’ll find the typical hustle and vrring of cars driving up and down the street. There’s outside seating. No bike racks(yet). But don’t let that stop you from riding here! When you look inside, you might assume, «Hipster spot; do not enter without skinny jeans and overly groomed, exaggerated mustache + beard combo.» BUT, like mom used to say, don’t judge a book by its cover. It can get a bit noisy inside if you catch them during a rush hour, typically 9 A.M. — 10 A.M. and 4 P.M. — 6 P.M. Coffee + Pastries This is one area where I believe OWC sets itself apart, they do have locally roasted coffee beans in use, but you’ll notice they are consistently offering coffee from independent coffee roasters from around the country. As I read the coffee offerings on the shelf, the brands are: Novel(Dallas), Four Barrel(San Francisco), and previously offered roasters: Slate(Seattle), Kuma(Seattle), Middle State(Denver). They wanted to offer simple yet delicious coffee, but also have unique craft coffee drinks like, their current seasonal specialty drinks aptly named Winter Sun, Ginger Spiced, Holiday Spiced Chai, Café Tonix, Mizuba Matcha Tea Latte. Additionally, they offer some select pastries from Rounds Bakery, watch out for the cranberry white chocolate scone. Staff + Service I learned that another differentiator here is they truly love to educate customers on the variety of roast they serve, the art and science of crafting caffeine laden drinks, and so much more — which is why I decided on NOT labeling this another«hipster» addition to Midtown in Reno. The baristas here are basically walking, talking, breathing coffee encyclopedias. They’re not pretentious about their coffee and welcome anyone like they’ve known you for years. Don’t be surprised to walk in and find the baristas dancing or singing, or both(probably about coffee). However, there is a caveat to their service, they’re not an express coffee place. Meaning, you’re gonna want to set aside time to come visit. Which is their MO, more on that in the next section. To quote a friend, warning NSFW, «[Their coffee and service] It’s the best coffee you’ll have in town, but the speed at which they make your drinks is akin to watching old people having sex.» I’m not a coffee snob, but I do appreciate a great cup of coffee. This place has it, and in multiple forms, too, french press and Chemex are my favs, if you’re willing to have some patience. What’s in the name? I inquired about the heritage of their name, Old World, and was told they wanted to bring back the soul of what it meant to go to a coffee shop in the good olé days. You would go to a coffee shop not to rush straight into the daily grind read: work, but to hangout, enjoy and engage in conversation with others with a cup of coffee in hand. They don’t mind you posting up for half the day to hangout here. I will say, as with any place that offers free wifi, purchase something and tip well if it’s your intention to stay a while.(Free wifi; Password: espresso). Pricing It can be steep for the uninitiated, like I said, if you’re looking for another quickie coffee shop, you’re out of luck and frankly, not their target audience. If you want something with more artisanship, high-quality ingredients and intimate atmosphere with people who love what they do – you may find yourself at home here. Keep it real, Old World. If you’re looking to break away from the herd at Starbucks, come down to Old World and enjoy a great cup of coffee… or latte, cappuccino, espresso, really whatever suits your fancy!

I’ve been here several times and I can honestly say that I absolutely love it. I’ve tried several different coffees and have loved each one. I love how they have a regularly changing specialty menu. The most current coffee was a ginger latte. It came presented beautifully with a leaf design in the foam. Instantly your nose is greeted by the warm scent of ginger. Once you take a drink the ginger flavor is very smooth and extremely tasty! You will instantly say mmm guaranteed. The atmosphere is relaxed, there is always interesting art to ponder and the staff is super friendly. Stop in, grab some coffee and just sit and enjoy!

New favorite downtown coffee shop for me! Met up here the other morning with a friend who’s office is nearby and they suggested giving this place a try. They capture the ambiance of a true coffee shop here and know how to make a delicious drink! I had the«Maple Sage» latte and WOW was it delicious. They make their own sage infused maple syrup here! Who even thought to do something so unique?! It’s sweet with the sea salt topping offsetting it nicely. The setup is nice and clean. I appreciate that they don’t try to cram too many tables inside either. It keeps the space open and bright. their gorgeous wood tables make me wish I had one in my own house. I’ll definitely be back to support this local coffee shop any time I have a meeting downtown.

I’ve passed by this coffee shop several times while running errands. I’m so glad I finally took a moment to stop in! Clean calm atmosphere with delightful baristas! I ordered something out of the ordinary and had the Maple Sage Latte… heaven! The light sprinkle of sea salt on the top was the perfect finish to preparing this latte, absolutely delicious! Can’t wait to go back!

I’m a picky coffee enthusiast. One of my favorite atmospheres is that of the coffee house. Warm, simple, some music… and people enjoying the gift that java brings to our lives. Old World Coffee delivers all this, and more. Cozy, almost intimate setting is highlighted by fantastic Batista’s and a clean, fresh feel. I ordered the Mocha Drogata, one of their signature drinks. This was fantastic! I love Mexican mochas… especially when(properly) spiced up with some cayenne. This drink not only delivered on my desires, but exceeded them. This was paired with a simple brannish dulce de leche muffin… the only plain thing in their pastry display. Plain looking… but very mildly sweet and flavorful. I didn’t come to Reno to gamble… but today I gambled on this shop and hit the jackpot.

I am not a coffee drinker… However I would never say no to a cup here! Walking into the bright spotlessly clean uplifting shop makes you feel welcome and at home. The baristas proudly stand and explain each step of the process if you ask! The menu choices are traditional but don’t be afraid to ask for something unique … They don’t cringe at being asked to let their creativity flow. Orange soy cappuccino … Steaming hot with the perfect amount of froth of course crafted with a decorative garnish. They have beans available for sell but how can it be the same without the personalized experience you get in there.

We stopped in Reno on our long track home to Cali. Good coffee is few and far between when traveling the middle US. Bleary eyed and desperate for a quality coffee I scoured Unilocal, searching for a quality cup of joe. The reviews brought me in. The great service, knowledgeable barista, fantastic espresso will bring me back. I don’t know your name, but I love you Mr. Barista.

Vanilla lavender or orange blossom… no, really, we’re not picking flowers, I’m trying to pick which flavor of latte I’d like to have today. Either way, it gets poured into a handle-less mug and tastes smooth and delicious. There are several options for specialty pouring and all kinds of espressos, none of which you’ll find at a coffee chain. And Kevin not only delivers superb service, but he is passionate about coffee and will give you all the ins and outs you could possible care to know… and I don’t mean in any boring lecture, he’ll share with enthusiasm and energy that might make you wonder just how many cups he’s had that day. This little coffee shop has plenty of plugs to go around if you’re wanting to hang out and make use of their free wifi. You can sit high at the narrow bar along the walls or by the front window, low at the few tables they have, or outside and enjoy a bit of a café feel. This little venue is one of my faves in town and I look forward to grabbing a mug solo or with a friend.

I waited a good long while to write this review because I wanted to make sure that Old World Coffee wasn’t «just another coffee shop». It took a few visits, and some trial and error in the ordering department, but I can finally say that Old World Coffee is one of my favorite spots in town, and a regular part of my coffee shop rotation. With each visit I’ve learned a bit more about what makes this shop an exceptional addition to our community. Let’s start with the staff. This is one dedicated crew of coffee aficionados! Walking in on any given day you’re likely to find them cupping several new varieties of coffee to help them help you choose the right one. Questions are answered with eagerness and a smile. Chris, Kevin, Tony, Josiah, and all the other baristas are there to share their knowledge and passion with you, so you can make great choices there and anywhere you enjoy your coffee. Next let’s talk about the Modbar, an American made marvel that dials up your espresso with the help of digital controls that tune each element of the espresso equation to exacting specifications. All of the guts of the typical espresso machine are located under the beautiful wooden counter, making for a clean work area that allows you to watch the barista at work. This is the only Modbar in NV and one of only a few in the nation. If espresso isn’t your cup of t… I mean coffee, then check out their ever changing lineup of locally and regionally roasted coffees sourced around the world. The menu offers tasting notes for each, and the baristas can guide you to a choice you’re sure to love with just a few specific questions. Right now you’re probably wondering how they can offer so many varieties of coffee to the consumer. Well, the answer is pretty simple. Each cup of coffee is brewed to order using either a Chemex or V60 pour over brewer. These brewing methods extract and enhance the flavor of specialty coffee by insuring the water is the right temp and all of the grounds come in contact with it during the brew. They also slow down the overall coffee experience in a really good way. Waiting for that cup means your going to sip and savor it when it finally arrives, adding to your appreciation of the service and product served at Old World. This has become my go to shop for business meetings. The space is modern, bright, clean, and comfortable, and most of the time it’s pretty quiet too, which is ideal for conducting a conversation. I also love the large windows and white painted walls which make it lighter, brighter, and airy inside. If you haven’t stopped into Old a World yet, do it! The incredibly passionate and well educated staff will make sure you have an outstanding experience, and the product simply speaks for itself.

We were just came out from a shop when we noticed that next door was a little coffee shop. With checked in on Unilocal so there’s a half price off for a cappuccino. I got my little cup cappuccino to go but before I drink it, I took a picture of it and it was so cute. A cup of cappuccino with a heart made with foam cream on top, very cute and artistic. The taste was good and strong coffee mixture with thick foam. My husband ordered an iced coffee and he said it was rich, and full body. There’s some items on the wall for sale too & they’ve some pastries too. This place is not too big but a cute little coffee shop with minimalist design and paintings on the wall. I love the paintings, very cute and nice. There’s some tables & a long counter for seating, and outdoor seating. Next time maybe I’ll try the lavender vanilla latte and the pastry.

I’ve been struggling with this review for a long while. I showed up before the grand opening during the soft opening. I have been before and after going to New York on my coffee tour of Manhattan. I just can’t put my finger on what to say about this place that probably hasn’t already been said. I love the bright clean interior. I love the higher chairs and the lower tables. The style for this place is just right, it’s a place to meet up with a friend for a quick chat, or maybe kill 30 minutes between appointments. I don’t see just hanging here for hours on end. Nothing is soft and comfy, and nothing that says… linger here just a bit longer and have a second or ever third cup. I was going to wax rhapsodic and find some flowery adjectives and imagery but really all I can say is that this place is the REAL deal. The people behind the counter are coffee nerds/snobs/geeks/masters whatever you want to call it… they really love the art of coffee and it shows in every cup. It also shows in the time and effort they put into the service. Lots of coffee places have some grump behind the counter who is just cool for school… but here… they definitely aren’t too cool for school, if they aren’t too busy they will fill you in on all the cool things they are doing with this magical bean. Just a tip… if you drink coffee to destroy your blood sugar levels… this isn’t the place. They do have some sweet stuff… but not a big variety. But if you like good coffee and experiencing something made with skill… this is your place.

June 12, 2015 Friday at 7:00AM for coffee 4 Adults Atmosphere — 5 stars Food — 5 stars Service — 5 stars Background — My wife was invited for coffee, and I crashed the party. Atmosphere — Small, clean, industrial, with beautiful metals meeting elegant woodwork and throw in some subway style tiles for good measure. Food Drinks — I had the mocha drogata, a spiced mocha. The coffee is not overly sweet. The coffee has the essences of chocolate coming out with every sip. There are also hints of cinnamon, allspice, and a touch of cayenne in there for good measure. The cayenne does not give it any heat. Peppers and chocolate is such a great combo. The best part is that you can actually sip the coffee immediately. It is not scolding hot like other places. If you are staying to have your coffee they will give you a real mug, none of those paper cups, bonus baby! So I had to look up the word drogata as the word is not in my vocabulary. It is Italian for drug addict, thanks Google and Wiki. Perhaps I am a caffeine addict. Service — There is a simple menu on the back wall and another daily paper one near the register. Just walk up the register if you are lucky or wait in line. We only had one person in front us and that gave us time to fine what we wanted. Today they had two guys working behind the counter. Both guys were friendly and helpful. What more do you need. Future — Please let me come back. Love to try some of the chemex and v60 styles.

So I had the opportunity to go in over the weekend and meet Kevin and Alex. Both were nice and educated me on their concept. 1 — Amazing coffee drinks(like the Mocha Drogata I tried — cayenne, cinnamon, and allspice) 2 — Various coffee beans for sale from the Hub, Four Barrel Coffee from San Francisco, and Middle State Coffee from Denver.(I scored a Colombian bean from Four Barrel and it was lush and velvety.) 3 — Free wi-fi and finally someplace with enough outlets to plug all of your gear in. 4 — A very clean design that is welcoming. 5 — Open 6AMTO7PM daily. YES!!! I feel that they will do well since they offer specialty drinks that you cannot get anywhere else. Now I have a new destination for coffee. Welcome to Reno OWC.

Newly opened coffee shop on California Street. Nice to see this area getting some businesses back. Parking can be slim. It’s a small shop but very bright inside, simple modern decore. Limited coffee selections, but I don’t need coffee thirty different ways. The prices seem to be right there with other coffee shops in the area. A few tables and stools for inside seating. It’s still a little unsettled in weather right now so not sure if they plan on any seating outside. Hubby tried the mocha Drogato, a mocha with extra spices of cinnamon, allspice and a bit of cayenne. I tried the chai latte, it had a lot of thick rich foam on top and a sprinkle of spices. They do have a small selection of pastries to go with you drink. It’s a quaint stop if you’re out walking the area, give it a try
