I remember as a kid… every year I would head to Payless for a few pair of cute shoes. Being inexpensive, my mom could always afford a few pair instead of one. Fast forward a few years and YIKES! Cute shoes you advertise Payless? What a crock of crap. They are obviously horrid knockoffs off shoes that might have been cute a few years ago. I too have«normal» size 8.5−9 feet and haven’t found a pair in years that I would be proud to wear. I get the cheapo«converse» knockoffs for yard work. So don’t you puff yourself all up pretending to be trendy Payless. We will no longer fall for your cutesy commercials full of false promises. PS.the kids shoes(toddler) are cute. I can at least find one pair a season for my little one at a good price… they do fall apart though.

Yes, yes, I know, this place mostly sucks. I kinda like it because I have freakishly small feet. We’re talking little kids size 4 to 4 ½ size feet, and they have really really cute kids shoes. I’ve looked through their adult selection a few times and found it sorely lacking, but if you’re looking for shoes for your little one this is a great place for them. They’re not super sturdy, but hey, the kid’ll outgrow them well before they fall apart on ya. The customer service leaves a bit to be desired, but it’s not terrible. No one’s ever rude to me or snappy… they just don’t really pay any attention to me.

Bah to you, Payless. You with your enticing but ultimately false promises of super-cute, super-cheap shoes. And yet, like the tease you are, you never seem to deliver what you promise, and I always leave empty-handed and let down. I needed to get some professional-looking but relatively comfortable heels for job interviews, but didn’t want to spend a ton. I wear a size 8.5 to 9, which, okay, is kind of big, but not freak-of-nature huge. It’s still in the standard size range for women, and yet Payless never seems to have anything for me. I gave them another try, and was disappointed yet again. As far as nice-looking heels that would be acceptable in the office, there were maybe three styles to choose from(and that’s generously including a metallic light gold as office-appropriate). None of them were very comfortable, and they looked like the cheaply sewn, fake leather they were. And Payless’s prices aren’t THAT cheap — I ended up getting a pair of simple, professional heels made from actual leather at Target for just a few dollars more than Payless’s crummy fakes. The service isn’t great, either. When I walked in, a girl greeted me and told me to ask for help if I needed it, then promptly launched into a personal phone call that lasted as long as I was there and was clearly audible from everywhere in the store. Nobody checked on me(although I was the only customer) or asked if they could help me find something. I had to hunt down the disposable foot socks myself. When I left, she paused her conversation to yell, «Thanks, come back and see us again!» Needless to say, I won’t.
