Where do I begin? They hound you to get the Pier One credit card so you can get a 20% off coupon which I planned to buy some new patio furniture with… unfortunately, the coupon turned out to be useless(only good for REGULAR priced items and let’s face it… everything is on sale in this place.). My second visit back, the clerk wants to look up my credit card number to charge my $ 15 candle to and I refuse to give her my social security number(I don’t like giving that info out to everyone) so I very nicely pay cash and go on my happy way. The clerk then flags my account and I get a letter that says they have suspended my card for fraudulent activity BEFORE I have even activated the stupid piece of plastic I received in the mail weeks ago. REALLY?!! Didn’t really want the card anyway but now they have completely lost my business.

On a whim as we were driving toward Whole Foods for a coffee break, I told Robert we should check out Pier 1 Imports as part of our shopping for new dishes. We had given our previous every day set to his son who recently moved into his own place. I didn’t believe we were going to find what we wanted in the first place, much less get it for a reasonable price. The service we received was top notch. Marilyn was fabulous helping us with our questions, while at the same time allowing us space to peruse and discuss what we wanted. Pier 1 makes Luminous Dinnerware, their take on the classic white set of dishes that can be purchased a la carte, which might not be fun when you’re buying for a party of 10, but makes for easy replacement should any of those dishes chip or break. Marilyn and her coworkers were very helpful toting the selected dishes to the counter, ringing them up, and then wrapping them almost individually to get them home safely. I’m glad we were able to find what we were looking for! I look forward to coming back for more household items on a whim… lol.

Children leave home… and children sometimes take your dishes when they leave home. Why? Because it’s a perfect opportunity to get some new ones! So we have been on the hunt for the perfectly priced white dishes. Something that should last us through until the end. We looked at Macy’s, JCPenny, Bed Bath etc. Then on a lark while heading to Whole Foods for a spot of cold brewed coffee, my wife says«What about Pier 1?» I had doubts going in… but I left a lot poorer but with a whole new set of dishes that reflects us. We put the set together. Well by «we» I mean we picked it out and the AWESOME gal behind the counter packed it piece by piece with care. The service here was great… the place is a little cramped so getting through with a scooter might not be the best thing. Or so it seemed with the old gentleman trying to scoot his way between that breakable thing and that other breakable thing. We will go back… Dishes break.

Normally I like shopping a pier one but this one is in a weird location so I don’t shop there. The store seems cramped and tight.

Great store with variety! I found a rug that matched perfectly with the theme of my living room. It was slightly damaged and the manager knocked %30 off the marked price of $ 330. I also bought some pillows and bathroom décor. Shortly after making my purchase I found an identical rug that was the larger size I originally needed for half the price. Thankfully they took it back and I was able to get the bigger/cheaper rug.

This is the kind of store that makes you realize that there’s just Too. Much. Stuff. In. The. World. Really, you do not need a stuffed pillow with a reindeer head embroidered on it or a hanging Christmas ornament that looks like a beaver. Something that makes me crazy is wandering around a store that is so crowded that you worry that you’re going to topple an entire display of delicate glass vases or you’ll break the neck of a 9-foot tall African giraffe for $ 79.99 while gagging on the overwhelming smell of this month’s featured perfumed candle. Worse is being asked within 2 nanoseconds of walking in the door if you need help. I just GOTHERE. Can you give me at least a minute?

I do enjoy the selection and variety at Pier 1 and strolled around the store for quite some time. However, I ended up not buying anything because there just wasn’t anything that took it over the top in that you feel like you must have it.

Pier 1– the chain store that used to sell all kinds of importy-/exporty things(like that hand-knot Guatemalan sweater and rattan chair I got in the 80’s) but has morphed into a furniture and tchotchke store. Think resin Buddhas, lotus candles, and mirrored etageres. Less incense and more Middle America. Nonetheless, on an organization jag, I decided to pop in and see if they had a DVD shelf or bookcase so I could corral the chi-shattering mess down at the homestead. Bingo. A sales associate on the floor helped me out and I circled the store, before returning to claim my item– a Chinese-inspired chest that would not be storing anything quite so exotic as opium. Points off for 3 mentions of signing up for a store credit card. The second time I said, «no thanks, I’m not interested in accruing additional store cards or debt…» and I was informed«If you pay it off every month like I do, you don’t have to worry.» Thanks– oh, you’re Suze Orman– I’m sorry I didn’t recognize you! I know you get signing bonuses and stuff, ladies… but calm down. Not cool. More points off for dropping my purchase off by the door and not asking if I needed help schlepping it to my car– which I didn’t but it would have been polite. It’s a mercenary world… but I got a great deal, and am organized. I will probably pop into Cost Plus the next time I want to do the world trade thing.

Hey I still like this store for all the reasons stated in past reviews. It is just a cheerful store. But once again today the regester when we went to check out decided not to work. It worked for everyone else, but not us. So strange I tells ya.

I love Pier 1 and always have. I agree with Michael’s review. I can always find some little unique treasure that I never realized was my heart’s desire. The staff are always friendly and helpful, but do not hover when you tell them«just looking». In fact, I think«just looking» is encouraged. The only down for this store is how crowded it is. I am always in fear that I will send the tower of glasses or pottery crashing to the floor while trying to maneuver through the narrow spaces between displays. Great store, unique merchandise, friendly staff, and nice location.
