We had a very delicious meal last night! Our server Oscar did a excellent job. My birthday dessert was a nice surprise, the piano player even played a birthday song for me! Thanks so much for making my birthday special! Gas Lamp keep up the good work. :-)

Just sat at a bar table after no greeting at the door– no one to be seen. Asked the bartender if we could have the empty bar hi top table. He said yes. After about 5 mins he came back with menus and we sat for another 20 without being offered so much as a water. Not impressed.

What an amazing place to eat for Mothers Day! Our very first visit today. The ambiance was elegant, yet causal. They had a pianist playing the whole time. Very nice. The food was amazing. Next time I will make sure to save room for dessert! My husband was lightly singing along to the music and caught the owners mothers attention. What a sweet lady! Thank you Gas Lamp for a wonderful experience. We will be back!

Recently moved back to Reno; I don’t remember this place being open before I left, so this was a new experience for me. I had the Italian Seafood Stew, which was an interesting twist on cioppino. It contained Italian sausage, but not as much shellfish as a traditional cioppino. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the dish. Very tasty. The wine list was fine, and I could tell the bar had a good stock of higher-end liquors. I’ll definitely go back, I’m dying to try the pork chop.

A little light on the seasonings they are huge portions! I had the tuna tartar for app and could have shared that, Main dish Lamb chops cooked perfect but a lack in seasonings blueberry sauce to the rescue. Al an All a nice dinner.

The best meal I have ever had!!! Ordered the 14oz pork chop. Oh my goodness. Grilled to perfection. Tender, beautiful and flavorful and enough for 2 meals. The mashed potatoes and chutney were perfect. It was like a Thanksgiving dinner on steroids. The caprese salad was a perfect started. Lots of basil and balsamic. Went with 5 others and they all raved about their food. The burgers, tortellini and prawns/caprese salad. I don’t like blue cheese but loved the garlic bread. No room for dessert. Maybe next time. The ambience was nice and romantic.

Hoity toity meets Reno meets reasonably priced! Convenient place for Susan and me and great place to take guests. The service is excellent and very focused on pleasing their guests. Our party all had something different on the menu and nobody complained… actually, we all did the opposite of complaining. Just real good American menu with a little pomp, but they don’t get too swept away with themselves. Try their main pork dish — yum! Try their lamb dish with the blueberry sauce — yay! Try their salmon salad — excellent! Try their ribeye steak — you’ll pass out from excess, because you won’t be able to stop eating it until it’s gone. My stepdad didn’t say a word while eating it… he just focused on eating it, until it was gone! Cap it off with crème brûlée, or a chocolate torte. They have a satisfying beer and wine list as well. Ambiance is low light with background music. Real quite. They only do dinner on limited nights. Enjoy!

Delish!!! My husband had the infamous Pork chop! It was everything we heard and more! The garlic mashed potatoes were the bomb! I had the Ny steak with sweet potato fries. The steak was a little tough but the garlic butter made it all yummy!!! We also had the berry salad, delicious! Then there was dessert! Almond truffle torte. Share it! It’s rich.

Perfect date night dinner. If your looking for a date night spot without the crazy noise around you this is the place. Restaurant was quite even with the bar being well packed. Food and service was also fantastic. I ordered The Chop. The best part about that was they told me upfront that it takes some time to prepare which i was ok with. I might have had a different perspective had they not told me upfront that it takes roughly 20 – 30 minutes to make it. It was fantastic. Winter root potatoes were also 10⁄10. Fiancé was also pleased with the Linguine and Clams. Will be back.

Love this place! My fiancé and I love to come here during their happy hour. The lamb is by far my go to dish. I have actually tried to mock their blueberry chutney because of this dish. The tar tar is my favorite appetizer! Be prepared to spend $ 50+ on a good meal, but so worth it!

Horrible first experience. We dined at the restaurant for a going away dinner for a fellow colleague. The hostess was extremely rude to the organizer of the dinner claiming no reservation was confirmed. They finally agree to seat our party. We were seated around 530pm. We got our food around 7 to 730pm. Service was horrible needless to say since we got our food 2 hours after we were seated. We had to ask multiple times for our drinks. I had to ask 3 times to get ice tea. In our table we had maybe 3 individuals who ordered ice tea. Instead of refilling everyone who ordered ice tea the waiter would only refil one drink at a time or forget to fill others. Very ineffective service. Food was pricey for mediocre food.

So I’m hangin’ with my Cuz this last weekend and she suggests happy hour. OK, I’m down with that(as we say in Oakland), but where? Sierra Gold is good for happy hour pizza as long as you like watching scantly clad vixen servers scampering about, «not that there’s anything wrong with that»(Seinfield), but we wanted something a little more than pizza and beer. There’s the Atlantis Bistro Napa half off happy hour … shit, missed the start at 4pm on that one, super crowded and loud otherwise. How about the Gas Lamp Bar?, suggests my Cuz. She’s been there before and says it one of the best happy hours in Reno … well sound like a plan! Happy hour runs everyday they are open from 5pm till 6:30pm. We arrive around 5:30. Entering, the bar lounge is off to the left and the regular dining room is off to the right. We’re greeted right away and we say happy hour! We are directed to the left. Some of the tables and some of the bar are filled, but we do find a round hightop table to sit. It’s not super loud in here or anything, but I do notice the music played here is old school Motown and other stuff from the 60’s and 70’s. Gladys Knight and the Pips, Lou Rawls, Jim Croche, and Credence and even MIchael Jackson(ABC123!) Me and Cuz just happen to actually like this era of music, we can sing along! So good tunes, and I can see why they play that era by the looks of the other customers… we really were the youngest people in the whole place. Good vibe and feeling to the place. They have a special Happy Hour menu with most items priced at $ 8.00 or less. I posted a pic of the menu. The website sort of sucks as far as menu and prices go. Two house Cabs to start, serving Mondovi here($ 4.00ea). Cuz did the ordering since she knows the menu. We had Smoked Salmon Carpaccio, Steamed Clams, Large Caesar Salad(all $ 8.00) and Spicy Garlic Fries($ 3.00). All that food barely fit on the little table! The fries were wonderful and hot, plus pretty spicy and came with a mayo type dip. The steamed clams were great and not sandy at all, all sitting in a wonderful buttery broth. I wanted to just soak that up with the included toasted bread. Cuz says the amount of clams though has dropped by about 25%, she’d know since she’s been here before, still as tasty though. The Caesar was nice and not over dressed, the lettuce crispy and no brown pieces… a very nice salad we shared. Now, the Smoked Salmon Carpaccio was the star of the table! The Smoked Salmon Carpaccio was served with toasted baguette slices. We assembled little morsels of tastiness on top of the little toasts, by laying smoked salmon, parm cheese, celery and topped with the dijon caper aioli. Once assembled, I gently slid it part way into my mouth and gently bit down. Oh, this is so wonderful, nothing breaks apart and falls all over the table as I bite in. It’s a clean bite through with no messy mess falling down. That in itself is an accomplishment, to toast the baguette just right so as not to cause an earthquake when you bite in resulting in a dropped mess on your lap. Perfect execution! Oh, and the resulting symphony of flavors swirling on my tongue along with the smooth creamy texture of the smoked salmon mixing with the dijon caper aioli is exquisite! Our fave dish of the evening! My Cuz remembers the former bartender who was so fun, but she’s no longer here now. But the bartender on duty that night kept our wines filled and orders taken. There’s not a separate server for the bar area. I did notice on our second round of wine, the pours became a little more generous… always a good thing! We were going to pass on dessert, but some of the house made ice cream flavors just seem too hard to pass up. Almond Rocca was my choice and Cuz had the Habanaro and cream, ice cream.($ 3.00ea). My ice cream tasted just like Almond Rocca, a candy I grew up eating! My more adventurous Cuz, had the spicy ice cream. She loved it and said it was like no other she’d had. I tasted… wow, that’s a spicy! It was a good blend of spiciness and pepper flavor combined with the cream to cool you down for the next bite. Most unusual, I recommend that! The Gas Lamp happy hour turned out to be a real find, and I’d love to go back and try some of the other items on the menu. Good music, great food and fun company, what more could a girl ask for? Get on down to the Gas Lamp and try this happy hour. I hear the food is wonderful as well in the dining room. Sorry for the picture quality, it was really dark in bar area for pics.

Next to 4th St. Bistro this is my second favorite restaurant in Reno. Another wonderful place to have a dinner date at. The atmosphere is classy and sophisticated, can be a bit dim for some folk but I dig it. The service matches the ambiance and is again, you guessed it, great! I’ve never had anything but superb delivered on my plate from veggies, to fish, to meat… It’s always great. Once evening we were even graced by the chef who simply wanted to know how we liked out meals. It’s a quiet place that allows for some intimacy, though the location can be a little tough and parking slightly limited, overall it’s always a great experience going to the Gas Lamp.

So my sister and I bought season tickets to Reno Little Theater… just down the block from this restaurant. Heard that the food was good, so why not have dinner before the show. We ordered an appetizer of fried zucchini… it was great. Somehow they managed to cut them like french fries and lightly bread them, and still fry them keeping them firm, but cooked. Then they served them with marinara sauce… they way most Italian Restaurant serve them(at least on the East Coast). But someone decided to add goat cheese to the warm marinara sauce… what a great combination. We decided on Rib Eye Steak tonight which came with mashed and asparagus. Steak was cooked to perfection, was way too big for either of us, but we both enjoyed a steak sandwich the next day. I believe our waiter’s name was Oscar, what an efficient server. Since we were taking our steak home, we decided on dessert. I’m a bet of a crème brûlée snob. almost always order when available, and while their’s was tasty. it was runny and not creamy(should have sent it back). Only drawback, was it’s just a big room with some old fashioned tables. They made the best of it with lighting to create some sort of atmosphere. A piano player came to play around 7PM, that was nice. And apparently they don’t serve bread, unless you ask for it. And, it’s a little pricey. Didn’t know about their happy hour until reading Michael T’s review. Will definitely try that way next time. Would I eat here again… absolutely… the food is good!

Nice casual experience! We came here after Barrels and Bites was a bust for us. Looking for good drinks, yummy food, and a chance to re-connect with each other after a couple days away for work. We sat at the bar and the bartender was slightly overwhelmed at the beginning. Friday night around 7 – 730 we all hit him at once! I ordered the steamed clams and the bleu cheese bread which were both amazing! The clams were large and fresh and perfectly cooked! My husband got the sausage tortelonis which I think are big tortellini? The sauce was smooth and creamy and he really enjoyed. All in all a solid experience. Menu is slightly limited but good quality food done very well. Excellent bar selection.

Tonight ** Gas Lamp was soooo much more than I expected! I had never been there before and I’ve lived in Reno 20 years. The place was beautiful and full of Great Service. I appreciate good service very much as I’m also in the industry. The food… was so excellent. Went with friends for a birthday. The attention to detail and manners of everyone working there, from the bartender before and after dinner(*house made orangechello) to the waiter that catered to our every need. We had the blue cheese garlic bread, tuna tartar, salmon carpaccio, ice cube salad, winter salad…(can’t remember exactly but it was amazing too) and tomato bisque. There were four of us and we shared and tasted with Mmmmmmm’s and ahhhhhhhhh’s. I had THECHOP, it was perfect. I’m a big pork fan and it totally impressed me and my friends. I just had to Unilocal this place. I can’t believe I’ve been missing out on such a great locally owned*** amazing quality, delivery and foody spot. Bottom line, the food is top quality. The prices are unbelievably fair. My Huge Chop served on a plate of winter mash with chutney that I was able to share with my friends AND still bring home as another meal… $ 20 just to give you an idea… I’m excited to tell everyone about this place. We came here for the first time tonight and decided to take advantage of the happy hour deals. We ordered steamed clams(8) bleu cheese garlic bread(4) and spicy garlic fries(3) with a couple Sierra Nevada pale ales. The bread was good, but when dipped into the white wine clam sauce it became delicious. The clams were very good, very little grittiness, and there were plenty(20ish). The spicy aioli has a little bit of a bite The bar is a bit in the small side four tables which would hold four people each. The bar seats about 10 people. We look forward to coming back and trying dinner

I was driving down Virginia Street looking for a spot to eat & my girlfriend and she yelled, «OOOH, LETSGOTHERE!!!» I swerved, made a hard U-turn and we pulled in to Gas Lamp — I’m so glad we did!!! I ordered a mandarin chicken salad(very fresh), my girlfriend ordered a strawberry salad(incredibly fresh), and we shared a big pork chop plate(AMAZING)! The pork chop came with mashed potatoes & a grilled peach — incredibly cooked! On top of the food being great, the bartender/server was fantastic. Terrific customer service. Very friendly, welcoming and attentive. I’ve been finding many places lacking in customer service lately so it was very refreshing to receive great service. Terrific job — we will be back & I definitely recommend for a date night!

I really struggled with what to rate this restaurant. On one hand, I had a great glass of wine and fantastic service… But on the other hand, our food was nothing amazing and the atmosphere left a lot to be desired. So, with that said, here’s what we ordered… Primarily based off of my fellow Unilocalers suggestions! App: blue cheese garlic bread. Result? Decent, yet fairly forgettable. Salad: ice cube salad for 2 of us and Caesar for the other. Result? Bland dressing on the ice cube. I left more than half. I was told the Caesar was pretty good. Entrée: the«famous» pork chop, mashed potatoes, and grilled asparagus. The result? The pork chop was bright red in the middle and had to be sent back after we had already waited the required 30 minutes to get it. They did redress the plate and made it look pretty, but I had a hard time eating it after that. The mashed potatoes were flavorful and extremely filling. Dessert: Crème Brûlée. Tasty, but again, nothing extraordinary. Three of us split it and there was still some leftover as we weren’t blown away. Some fresh berries would’ve been a nice touch. All in all, I’m glad we tried this restaurant as I have wanted to for a long time. However, we will stick with Rapscallions when we want a special meal.

According to @jontaffer, bars that serve food bring in substantially more revenue and profit because patrons stay longer and spend more! I’m a prime example of this, and so are many of my friends, especially when it comes to Happy Hour. See a bar with no food will probably get 2 drinks out of me before I feel the need to feed. But a bar that has food, will probably get 3, plus my food business. Just like a lot of other Unilocalers in Reno, and people around the country, I prefer dining on small plates, cocktails, and craft beer. I’ll go out of my way to visit a bar with great cocktails/beers that also serves up small shareable plates and appetizers, or great bar food. Gas Lamp definitely fits the bill here, and I’ve been in a few times, and brought friends too! I really like the bottled beer selection here, I tried the Mad River Steelhead Double IPA for a whopping $ 3, and according to Ashley, the wine pours are nothing to sneeze at! But what I love is that half priced app selection. I’m a sucker for BIGAZZSCRIMPS, and Gas Lamp delivers! These are cooked perfectly with the right amount of char flavor to make my mouth water. The salmon carpaccio and the tuna tartare are also not to be missed! Now munching on half priced apps and discounted drinks, you might think my bill would be minuscule, but I’d bet that I run an average check of $ 20/pp every time. I’m seeing this kind of menu more and more, and that makes me happy. I just wish more of our great bars would investigate food with their drinks, because then I’d have a lot more options!
