Reviewed: 2013/Jan(restored from lost profile) «The concept here is you don’t tip, but rather donate what you would have tipped to the monthly charity they are supporting. The food was delicious and the lady who served us was great too! We had the french dip, baked mac and cheese w/bacon, and mouth watering carrot cake. We will definitely go back.»

I feel so lucky to have walked over to Luther’s for some warmth after a showing of The Nutcracker across the street. I happened to walk in on a Friday for«family karaōke night» and I was delighted by the lively, welcoming atmosphere. My little one got a brownie and a small glass of milk(served in a chilled glass) and I had a(fresh brewed) iced tea. Delicious. Great music with room to dance and again — SUCH a welcoming atmosphere. Service was off the charts! Next time, I will make a night out of going to Luther’s. Thank you!

In fairness, I would give this place 5 stars for the people and the great live music and trivia offerings, but the food just is too lame. I don’t think anything is actually«cooked» here, which means a lot of dishes taste like they’re prepackaged or bland. This place uses its profits to serve its community, so I really wish I liked it more but I wouldn’t care to eat here again unless it was for a quick soup or sandwich at lunch.

Great place with great people. I have been coming here since it opened and they never seem to not impress me. Live music is always great with a fun crowd. Luthers Table is a place for community and places like these are places we need more of. Support local missions

The staff are friendly and personable. Food selection is somewhat limited but tasty and affordable. Small selection of good brews, wine & baked goods, including a baked to order large cookie for sharing-yum! Always something going on, mostly music, and free(tips suggested and worth it!) Open mic night on Th is entertaining and fun. Despite being a Lutheran based venue, with profits going to local charities, there is NO preaching. Love this local hangout!

Normally wonderful, friendly service. Today I stopped by and had a horrible experience with someone I haven’t seen before, who didn’t wash her hands before starting to prepare the food, then dropped something on the floor and put it right back on a food prep surface, then licked her fingers repeatedly while preparing the food, then when I mentioned the finger-licking finally went to wash her hands while giving me a shit-eating grin. Yikes! I hope the«regular» person returns soon!

To be fair I’m a little biased because I know the managers and I think they have done a phenomenal job reviving the place. I must say that I was very impressed with my latte the other day. I didn’t really like the gluten free cookie, but at least they are trying to have options. If you live in Renton this is a great coffee shop.

We came as a group for lunch and I did NOT enjoy my meal. First of all, the whole donation thing is confusing. If you’ve never been there before, you won’t understand why there’s a big jar asking for donations(basically tip money up front I guess). Then you order and pay and they bring the food to the table. I was excited to see sheppard’s pie on the menu but it was WRONG. I expect sheppards pie to have tasty seasoned meat with peas and carrots and a bit of onion and celery. Instead I got super bland meat/sauce and large crunchy celery pieces, tons of onions, and red peppers. WTF were red peppers doing in there? I have a policy of not sending things back as one of my coworkers did when his french dip arrived slathered in a sauce that was not disclosed on the menu. I don’t know how anybody can enjoy their food.

I really enjoy going here. We have gone a few times to see friends perform on Saturday Night. I really like it in the summer when they can open the doors. The Food is good, The Vibe is great, the Beer is cold. And it is kind of cool to sit in the Pews that my husband sat in when he went to Church when he was a kid.

we live right across from Luther’s Table. I really liked it there. The menu is simple, the rules are easy — — grab a menu — grab a table/seat — come back to the register when you’re ready to order Simple. This establishment doesn’t take tips but donations to a local charity in the area. The church itself I believe is across the street. The staff is incredibly sweet, they make you feel comfortable right from the moment you walk in the door.

LT is a place with a mission. Money normally left for tips goes directly to the local cause of the month. One month it might be the center for women and children, another month it might be the Salvation Army or even Friend’s of Youth. Volunteers who serve at the restaurant make this possible because they allow the regular staff to be paid more so that they can work without tips. Please do tip BIG though because it goes straight to a good cause. I love that LT supports the arts with open mic nights for area musicians, singers, players, comedians and poets! Thursday is a great time to stop down for dinner and a beer and some good entertainment. Friday and Saturday offers family friendly/no cover music by a variety of local bands. From jazz to rock every style of music is represented over time. I think it’s great to see kids and parents dancing to funk rock. They even have local artists display their art on the walls of the restaurant. Fabulous! Folks who consider themselves to be part of the Luther’s Table community gather together to serve the Renton community by preparing dinners for homeless folks at the local Salvation Army . The food… is bar food, But the desserts are homemade! YUM! Don’t miss the brown butter cookies. Have a latte or later in the day enjoy a beer or a glass of wine. Snarf down some Norwegian Natchos and be entertained. It’s a big win/win for you and the Renton Community! A nonprofit business with community sensitivities make this a 5-Star rating

About a month ago, my friend and I went here for the first time to see Annemarie Russell in concert. We were moved by the mission, the hospitality, and the generous offering of food options. When I heard it was a nonprofit café, I assumed the food would be limited to donated baked goods and mediocre coffee. Happy to say, I was wrong. Not only do they provide a decent menu of appetizers, soups, salads, wraps and flatbread pizzas, they also have gluten-free offerings, beer and wine. Water and coffee stations are self-serve and the performers play for donations. The staff is warm and friendly with an ambiance to match. I like knowing that the money I spend here is used towards helping others feel cared for and wanted. Church/bar/music/café — however you’re bent, you will feel welcomed at Luther’s Table.

I am sorry, but checked this place out for lunch. The food was«sad». Ordered the nachos. They were out of chicken. So it was substituted with chicken cubes used for salad. The nachos looked like something your babysitter will make you. Or made from the school lunch lady. My wife ordered the sandwich. Which was ultra dry. Cause of the old focaccia bread. Had to ask for extra mayo. Then later on. It made her sick. The décor and draft beer were nice. But over all the meal was depressing. Not worth the cost at all. Save your money and grab lunch somewhere else.

The food here is mediocre, I am not sure if the Renton curve has been too generously applied in other reviews or if I had the misfortune of dining on «off» days 3 times in a row because judging from other reviews that seem to hail the food here like the second coming of Christ. First time I went, I had the French dip, portions were good but it was something along the lines of what you would find at a Fred Meyer or below average deli. Second time, breakfast, can only be best described as Ikea’s restaurant quality. Not that it’s a terrible thing, I like eating at Ikea once in awhile but the prices were not Ikea prices. Third time, dessert. A slice of coconut chocolate cake, loaded with so much sugar that it reminded me of the usual diabetes in a box that you find at your generic neighborhood franchise grocer. There were also not much favor from the chocolate or coconut in something that was so overly sweet. I figured since their other dining options feel like an afterthought, perhaps they are strong in their desserts department, couldn’t be more wrong. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if they actually drove to Safeway up the street and purchased goods from there to resell… So why the five stars? Well, we have established that eating here is a terrible mistake, what isn’t a terrible mistake is what this place actually provides as an overall package. A truly warm and comfortable place to hang out for drinks, live music and other venues. I am as not religious as a non-religious person can get, but I find the staff very welcoming and the atmosphere filled with none of the usual pretentiousness and self righteousness that one finds in a church. If they can fix the food, it will be perfect, nevertheless definitely a good place to hang out and for a good cause.

This place is the restaurant of my people! Literally. Ok. Maybe not literally but I am ELCA Lutheran and Luther is my homeboy so… Anyway, this restaurant is an old converted ELCA Lutheran church. What the heck are ELCA Lutherans? They’re the liberal folks – the ones who are pro-gay marriage and have even approved gay clergy. They also do a lot of community outreach to help end poverty and homelessness. This is important because I also want to mention that Luther’s Table is a non-prof. I love that it’s a non-prof but I didn’t include that into my rating. Instead, I’m rating food and service. The service is good and the staff are friendly. The food is effing delicious! I had the Luther’s Plate(I think that’s what it’s called). It had three different types of sausages and came with potato salad. I was hugely disappointed the potato salad was German potato salad. Instead it was large chunks of undercooked red potatoes and a mayo sauce. Did not like. I really loved how they cooked the sausages though. Heaven! And you get picked onion and two different kinds of mustards. So good. The restaurant is located in Renton which is a pretty far commute. I will probably come back here but since it’s so far away, my visits won’t be frequent.

I really love coming to this café! the waitresses here really awesome, and they’re super nice! The First time I heard about this place was from a former classmate of mine and she brought over a barbecue chicken flat bread Pizza and it was so delicious! The next day I go to Luther’s and I order the same pizza. Its literally heaven! I know food when its fresh and it was definetly fresh! the coffee is really good too, as too the italian soda’s. Its rarely common to see local highschoolers come here, because its so close to the school. I love the live music! Also you can see so much talent in renton that is broadcast to locals here and its great! I’ll be coming back every time!

A little on the pricy side for my college student budget, but the quality of food and the ambience totally make up for it. As many other people have already mentioned, the restaurant is staffed mainly by volunteers who don’t accept tips. Rather, you can make a donation to whatever cause they are supporting at the moment. If this isn’t altruistic, I don’t know what is. You can park on the street or in the few spaces behind the restaurant. Upon entering you’ll see the counter/menu and that’s where you can order the food, take your number, and a seat. Water is self serve and if the weather allows, you can even eat outside. I attend Open Mic on Thursdays to see my friends perform. The community that shows up on these evenings is absolutely wonderful. It’s kind of like being around a campfire watching everyone perform and feeling all warm and nice on the inside, haha. They recently just got a pumpkin ale which is awesome and their french dip is really all I get.
