Good LORD those are some amazing Red Velvets!!! I just love how soft, fresh, and tasty the icing is. For me, the softness of icing is the biggest criteria!

(This is probably closer to 3.5 stars to me.) Unlike its sister restaurant in Chinatown — which I haven’t been to in many years, so perhaps it’s changed — the staff of this Red Velvet are warm and friendly, and the cupcakes are inviting instead of looking and tasting like no effort went into them(which is the reason I haven’t been back to the downtown store in years). The cupcakes are moist and flavorful, and the selection covers standards as well as several more unique combinations.

Just the best cupcakes around, save for Georgetown Cupcake. If you can’t make it to GC, go here. Period. Everything is awesome(ha!). Vegan options. Catering. Yum yum yum yum yum yum yum…

Not a fan of this cupcake place. I’ve tried them several times, and I think today was the last. Their cupcakes are just ok. The cake part is too thick/dense, not very enjoyable. The icing is great. As for customer service, that’s why I’m giving a 1 star. And that’s why I also refuse to try this place again. This is what happens when you make me preorder(when you have a full stock of cupcakes), I have to drive to Leesburg then come back 3 hours later to get a dozen cupcakes. I hope you have lots of stale cupcakes leftover :)))

Cupcakes are great when they are still warm from the oven, and the frosting is better than other places I’ve tried, but otherwise pretty average and somewhat on the dry side. I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit, but since I live close I stop by to get the red velvet and/or peanut butter cup. Staff is friendly, but very little seating so not a place to buy and enjoy your cupcake at the same time. The hours are also listed incorrectly, both on Unilocal and the door of the establishment itself, which say open until 10 on weeknights, but I think it’s 9. Edit: They have separate winter hours, which explains the early closing. They put up a piece of paper with the correct times, but not the dates that it applies.

I had an excellent experience with this bakery. I work out of town, and I ordered two dozen mini cupcakes to be delivered to my colleagues in the Reston office. They raved about both the chocolate and vanilla cupcakes and loved the small size.

Love cupcake places ! I should have tried the red velvet since it’s in the name however I wanted to try their season cupcake. We got a pumpkin Chai cupcake and a lemon coconut cupcake. It was good ! I might come back again :)

Consistently wonderful, and the gluten free /vegan flavors keep getting better. I don’t know how they do it, but they can take my money any day: I eat here all the time, and I’ve never had a reaction from cross-contamination, even though I’m apparently ridiculously sensitive to the tiniest traces of gluten and dairy. The Mexican hot chocolate and pumpkin cupcakes are fantastic, especially when they’re fresh out of the oven. I really love this place.

When we’re at RTC we sometimes stop here and the cupcakes here like the Unilocal review title says are(and IMO) ‘meh’. You can clearly taste an abundance of almond in the cake portion and its an abundance and not subtle; too much. I hail from the more icing the better cupcake crowd and R.V.C. is not in that crowd. If you’re in the area these are okay and will satisfy a sweet tooth craving, but I think there are better options out there.

This place is not going to blow your socks off but they are good. The namesake cupcake is my style of red velvet with a cream cheese frosting. SOMETIMES it can be a little too soft for my preference but the flavor is good. Every cupcake I’ve had here has been fresh and the service is friendly. Because I live in the town center, this place is convenient when my sweet tooth is calling and it’s a nice balance to the salad I typically get next door from Sweet Greens. Girl math. :)

I don’t particularly care for cake(we had pies and brownies at our wedding instead of cake), but one of our vendors donated a dozen cupcakes from Red Velvet Cupcakery to our office, and they were amazing. I had a red velvet cupcake, and the frosting was amazing. I’m pretty sure they were gone within fifteen minutes.

My cupcake was a a taste dry but it was still very flavorful. A bit pricey for the size.

Its an ok place. The cupcakes were a lil dry. Cant figure out why they are charging $ 3.50 per cupcake?! There’s nothing great about their cupcakes. NEXT…

No. Just no. The gluten-free cupcakes are disgusting. I had to force myself to swallow my first bite. Someone compared gluten-free boxed cupcakes I made to the ones at Red Velvet. They meant it as a compliment, but I was deeply offended. I decided that I needed to up my game and make some fabulously gluten-free cupcakes from scratch. They knocked the Red Velvet cupcakes out of the park. Use a good recipe and replace it with Bob’s Red Mill 1 to 1. You won’t be sorry. Save your money and go elsewhere. Better yet, make your own gluten-free cupcakes from scratch.

Located in Reston Town Center. I appreciate the convenience of this cupcakery. Perfect for picking up a few sweet treats for friends and family. Some seating is available. It’s a nice place to catch up with friends or sit back and relax with a good book. Employees are always friendly and quick. I enjoy their cupcakes but wouldn’t say these are my ultimate favorite. The Red Velvet cupcake is a winner though!

Just happened upon this cute place yesterday and was so excited to find that they had vegan options!(the vegan just happen to be gluten free as well) We chose the Black Velvet and the Mocha to take home and enjoy later. And enjoy we did! The cupcakes were moist, rich in flavor, and the frosting was OUTIFTHISWORLD delicious. So good! We will definitely go back! (the only reason I only gave 4 stars was because it was hard to taste any real difference between the two flavors) Oh! And if you’re vegan, get a peanut butter cookie! Soooooo soft. My husband deemed it the best cookie he’s ever had.

The cupcakes are overpriced for what’s it’s worth. They have good flavors and potential — but right now they’re just nothing special. I’ve tried every flavor. Red velvet and the coconut summertime cupcakes are my favorite because they’re the only cupcakes I’ve tasted that are somewhat moist. The Red velvet cake comes with a cream cheese frosting. Really good, but it will turn your teeth red. The Summertime cupcake has a lemony vanilla cake with vanilla coconut frosting. Every other one I’ve had has been dry. I would save your money and go to Ben and Jerry’s instead.

2.5 stars. Red Velvet’s flavors are good. Very good. Both the cake and the frosting of the three cupcakes we tried were just the right sweetness, which was a relief, especially considering how cloyingly sweet some places make theirs. What kept me from giving a higher rating was simple: The cakes of two of the cupcakes were extremely dry. And I don’t mean in a «these could have used a little more of [insert moisture-enhancing ingredient],» I mean in a «these must’ve been baked a long while ago and left out in the open air» kind of way. And that’s a huge deal-killer when it comes to me and baked goods. As another reviewer mentioned(in what context, I can’t recall), this place does have a lot of potential — I agree wholeheartedly with this. If my sweet-tooth kicks in the next time I’m in Reston, and only a cupcake will do, I’ll come to Unilocal to see what my options are, before deciding whether or not to come back to Red Velvet.

(5÷6÷14) I happened upon Red Velvet today. The staff immediately acknowledged me and when I shared that I was a first-timer, they explained their offerings. Thanks to Cinco de Mayo, their 13th flavor was the Margarita cupcake. I was torn between a few other tempting delights, then the staff explained that the Margarita will not be available much longer. That was the motivation I needed. The Margarita cupcake was made with moist citrus cake with the perfect amount of tequila(yes real tequila)/lime curd filling. The cake was delicious, not too sweet, without the buttercream topping, but the Tequila/Swiss topping elevated it. The cupcake was garnished lightly with sea salt. Wowzers! «Red Velvet cupcakes seduce you from the first bite to the last crumb». Yes, I was seduced. Needless to say, my cupcake didn’t make it home.

I LOVE Red Velvet Cupcakery. Of all the cupcake places in the area this is hands down my favorite. The cake is the perfect consistency, moist, airy and delicious and the frosting is to die for! Their cream cheese frosting is out of this world! Case in point: I bought cupcakes for a co-worker’s birthday today and ended up not getting something I would have picked myself. I was left with their«summertime», which is a lemon cake with a coconut cream cheese frosting(I’m a chocoholic, so this sounded super boring), but it was fantastic!!! Again, I LOVE this place. Cupcakes aside, the staff is always super friendly too. :)
