I’ve never been fond of this ABC Store. Generally, I prefer to patronize others in the area, but this one is the closest to home. Here’s my most recent experience: I was in the store on the afternoon of Monday, August 25, 2014. There was one other customer. The other customer was in front of me in line and he was joking/complaining about being carded every time he goes in. The cashier took that as an opportunity to loudly and enthusiastically share his thoughts about the police and their apparent laziness except when busting alcohol vendors for selling to underage people. The other customer clearly agreed, and the the entire exchange became very anti-police and included a fair amount of profanity. I submitted a comment regarding this incident via ABC’s website and never got a response. Not surprised. Just annoyed. I work in DC so when I can I just visit some of the locally owned liquor stores in town. There are some charming little places with very knowledgeable employees.

Smaller than other stores however they do their best to order what you need if it’s in their distribution. A manager even rang when Rittenhouse Rye came. Bonus points now that they’re stocking the almightiest of blends — Grouse.

This one is managed really well compared to most. The management has a firm grasp of product knowledge and what is available in the state. Selection is good. Down side is the price of liquor in VA sucks. Next time you’re in a restaurant in VA and are shocked by the price of a drink, remember that Restaurants pay the same outrageous retail price as you do at a VAABC.

This is a medium-sized liquor store as far as Virginia ABC stores go. I really only ever buy bourbon or rye, but I can’t buy rye here because they don’t carry any good brands. Compared to DC liquor stores, the fifths and handles are really expensive, but the 375s and smaller are much cheaper. Makes sense.
