Nice basic bowl of ramen in the convenient Chinatown area off Greenville in between Araphao and Beltline. For about $ 8 – 10 you get a choice of clear or yellow noodles. Want to double your portions? Go for the win and get the super bowl size! I got my usual choice for any ramen place — spicy tonkatsu. Fish cakes, ginger, mushrooms, seaweed, eggs and pork chatsu. Good to go ramen if you are in the Richardson area and do not want to have to wait a long time in other hype ramen places.

This place is so cool and quiet! Located in Chinatown plaza right off of Greenville north of Belt Line. The decoration is very modern Asian, peaceful. The food is stellar. I had the chicken katsu chicken, it’s breaded and not greasy at all. They have several ramen choices both chicken based and pork.

Very nice noodle soup, full of flavor and not too salty which is better than most ramen places.

*Check in on Unilocal to save 5%* This is the first place where I’ve actually tried«legit» ramen so this was a definite change of scenary from the 80 cent ramen packets from the asian supermarket! It was a very nice and well lit environment, the decorations were very interesting. I came in for lunch at around 1, so although it was a tad bit busy, it wasn’t overbearing. Our waitress was very nice and got our orders immediately. She also came ready and set down glasses of water for us! I ordered the Shoyu ramen which consisted of hard boiled eggs, chicken broth, green onions, shredded seaweed, and braised pork belly. The green onions definitely helped with the flavoring of the broth, which was a little bland for my taste. My only complaint was that the soup itself was lukewarm temperature. I don’t know if they just cooked it at a low temperature or if it was left out for a while but it definitely wasn’t as hot as I would like it to be. My friend got the spicy tonkotsu ramen with extra spice, and he also agreed with me that his soup was warm. He also said that although it was already set with spicy flavoring along with his request for extra spice, it wasn’t even enough to make him break a sweat let along gulp down any water. Overall, this place has a very friendly environment. I would definitely come here again to try the different types of ramen they have to offer!

Traditional ramen, soupy and stir fried. Excellent Japanese appetizers. Inexpensive too.

I thought the décor was simple but nice. When I was seating down, I thought the bench was light so I attempted to pull out the bench myself but failed. The server kindly offered to help me afterward. I realized I may not be the biggest fan of ramen. I’m not sure, but I thought the ramen was okay here. I got the creamy miso ramen and I think I could have eaten another serving. It wasn’t that it was a small bowl, it was decent sized but I got one slice of meat and it was super thin. Now I know each bowl of ramen comes with a half boiled egg, but your girl doesn’t eat eggs so I gave it to one of my friends. Maybe I’ll come back to try the tonkotsu, instead.

A nice place to stop by and enjoy some delectable ramen. The location for Maru ramen is in Dallas’s China town, which has a ton of nice restaurants in and around the area. We were pretty hungry for some Japanese, especially ramen. Using the Unilocal app I found Mara, and I’m glad we did. The service was very friendly and accommodating, also they knew their menu well. The takoyaki was pretty good here, the octopus was not chewy but mixed with the dough. We also had the bun with pork in it. I forget the name but my photo has it. It was pretty good as well. Lastly the tonkotsu ramen was nice, but it felt like it was missing something. In reality you can’t go wrong with it. I think maybe it needed more meat? Anyhow there were plenty of noodles and the broth was flavorful. All in all I enjoyed my visit and I look forward to coming back here.

Mediocre– one word to describe this restaurant. Everything from the service, drinks, food. I’d order the milk tea, pork buns and tonkotsu. Milk tea tastes watered down– took two sips and left it. In both the pork buns and ramen, the meat served were very dry, ramen noodles are the kind you find in ramen packages from the grocery store, flavor was so so for the broth, pork buns weren’t good. This place might be ok to pop on by once in a while if you’re on the way, but I wouldn’t prefer it over any other ramen houses in Dallas(monta, wabi, tei-an, etc). If you really want good ramen, save yourself this trip and go elsewhere!

Each time that I have come here, the service has been great. I have tried several of the ramen now and each one is equally delicious. Tonight I ordered Spicy Tonkatasu Ramen w/white noodles. Broth was fresh, flavorful, and aroma was inviting. I like the naturalness of the spicy kick in it. Not overbearing where I am sweating my a– off. Got hot tea and taste like any other Asian tea. I shall be back again to support them!

Went for Sunday lunch. Thought this spot had the best noodles(firmness, texture, thickness) on our Tour de Ramen of the DFW area so far. The pork that the ramen comes with was not fatty and didn’t have that melt in your mouth experience that most ramen places have. On the plus side, that means it’s probably healthier. Our group had the tonkotsu, the spicy tonkotsu, and the creamy miso ramen bowls. Our consensus was the spicy bowl was the best– pretty mild spice and had an extra kick of flavor added to the regular one. Space is open and modern with wooden benches that seat 4 people per table, maybe 6 if small. Not a fancy date place, more of a casual atmosphere in my opinion. Will definitely return, price was $ 10 for large bowl, $ 8.50 for regular. Would say this is one of the top 5 ramen places in the DFW area.

Eh okay ramen. I’ve been here twice now, and the first time I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen and the second time I ordered the Creamy Miso Ramen. The first time, I thought the Tonkotsu Ramen was decent. The broth was actually pretty delicious and the noodles were a great consistency. They weren’t too stiff or too soft. The broth was savory and flavorful, but the noodle to broth ratio was awful. There was not enough broth in my bowl and it was almost as if I wasn’t even eating a ramen bowl. The pork was also dry. The second time around, I thought I would try the Creamy Miso Ramen, but that was a mistake. This selection was simply boring and bland. It didn’t have much flavor and I was disappointed. Once again, the noodle to broth ratio was inadequate. We also ordered the Takayaki and Pork Buns for appetizers. The Takayaki flour was great, but the octopus was stiff and rubbery. Pork Buns were again DRY and boring. There was something missing in it, maybe a daikon? We didn’t even finish them. Love the interior, great place for cheap eats or if you are craving ramen… Since apparently there aren’t any great ramen places in the DFW area. This will have to do.

I feel kind of ambivalent about Maru Ramen – if I could give it 3.5 stars, I would. This place is one of a series of new ramen restaurants in Dallas, so I was eager to try it out. I came for lunch on a Saturday, but it wasn’t crowded at all, which was nice. I liked the décor in the restaurant because everything looks so clean and spacious. I did not like their seats, which were wooden benches that require the person next to you to scoot back every time you want to get up. We shared a seaweed salad appetizer, which was good but nothing special. I ordered the tonkotsu ramen, and they give you the option between wavy and straight noodles. The ramen looked pretty standard, and came with pretty hefty pieces of pork. The broth was tasty and not too salty, and the noodles were perfectly chewy and delicious. However, I just couldn’t get over the weird flavor of the pork. It was not only bland, but had the strange taste of pork that is reheated in the microwave(not sure how else to describe it). It tasted so strange that it made me lose my appetite, so I only finished about half my ramen. The fried cheesecake is delish though.

Dallas doesn’t have the best ramen scene, but Maru Ramen isn’t too bad! Pretty reasonable price($ 8.50 for a small bowl) for a good amount of food. I got the spicy tonkatsu ramen. A big problem with a lot of ramen is that it’s too salty, but I think that theirs didn’t over do it. Not amazed by this place, but think it’s a good place to go to if you’re looking to warm up with ramen on a cold night.

Best Tonkotsu ramen I’ve had in Dallas. If anyone can recommend a better one, let me know. Always get the yellow noodle for ramen. That’s just a given. You’re welcome. The reason it’s not five stars is because they’re not consistent with their meat. There are some days were it’s REALLY good and some days where it tastes dry and old and I get sad. Their takoyaki is also actually pretty good if anyone was interested, but really, just get the tonkotsu ramen here.

To be fair, I’ve had ramen only twice before– and only in Dallas. But my husband and I both agreed it was our favorite of the places we’ve tried in town. The husband had the spicy tonkotsu. He’s usually very good about spicy things, but this ramen made him sweat! If you’re going to try this one, make sure you can handle a fair bit of heat. I had the creamy miso. The miso taste is, much to my delight, is VERY much there. If I had any complaint, it’s that my pork was a little bit on the dry side. I’m short, we loved it. If you’re not some well-travelled ramen connoisseur, the chances you’ll enjoy this place are pretty high.

Formerly Old Taro Ramen & Sushi. How did I know this? It’s still on the receipts even after having been open for months under the new name. Nishiyama noodles made famous in the menu by the mention that it is imported. Upon research, I found out that it is one of the most common and popular style of ramen noodles in Japan, produced by the company of the same name. This type of noodles are thick and wavy, which is how I like it since it reminds me of the noodles in Totto in New York(in contrast with Ippudo). You can however opt out of this noodle by requesting for thin, white, straight noodles instead. And upon my experience, the thinner noodles may be a better choice, since the balance of ingredients in the soup prepared by this place was thrown off by the thicker noodles. I ordered the basic tonkotsu ramen($ 8.50) and it comes with braised pork belly, boiled soy egg, scallions, pickled ginger, fish cake and shredded seaweed. Sounds good? Too good to be true. Egg boiled perfectly with relatively soft yolk which is great for the soup base. Meats/proteins(pork and fish cake) were skimpy as they were all cut too thin. Pork, even thin, was tough as it was overcooked and dried out. Broth was good. Not salty. Noodles itself was good but with the skimpy ingredients, it tasted bland. Even the liquid ratio was on the short end since they gave me too much of the noodles. It’s for this reason I would suggest future patrons to pick the thinner noodles, and hopefully it’ll taste better. What could have been great was just made mediocre. And the pork belly being dried out adds to the insult of the overall soup. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this place but I do hope that the owners work to improve their product. Especially since the two servers here were very friendly and provided a pleasant experience. But until the product improve, there’s better places to eat, even in the same New Chinatown strip mall.

My husband and I were expecting some good ramen, comparable to the West Coast or NY’s ever famous Ippudo, or even Austin for that matter, but it’s still a fail. I had the Tonkatsu Ramen and my hubby had the Creamy Miso Ramen. We also had the fried chicken appetizer, which had a kick, but that’s all. It was also on a large bed of lettuce strips, so 70% lettuce and 30% chicken. Tonkatsu Ramen Ratings: Soup base: surprisingly pretty flavorful, still not good enough for me to drink all of it afterwards Chaisu: Dry, bland, and overcooked(my least favorite thing in the bowl) However they did put a good amount of it in. Egg: FINALLY, someone gets the soft boiled egg right Noodles: Nice chewy texture and it went well with the soup base Creamy Miso: too much cream. like literally too much. It’s all I could taste. The look was there, but the taste wasn’t. All the other things were similar to the Tonkatsu. Atmosphere: nice and clean cut Service: they were nice and attentive, but nothing extraordinary Most likely won’t be coming back, but nice try Maru. The chaisu was definitely not one of the leading roles that day.

Nicely decorated simple n clean … They got rid of the sushi bar area in the front… We’re greeted and seated promptly Ordered the spicy tonkatsu ramen and creamy miso ramen and chasu buns … Broth was good, noodle a tiny bit chewy, meat is just ok… Egg /corn was cold but good Overall 3 stars with their price I feel the quality should be better… They definitively have room to improve

Delicious vegetarian ramen in a miso based broth, seaweed salad, and vegetable tempura! Portions are generous, prices are affordable, and everything tasts great. This place is beautiful inside. Sleek and minimalist décor, with little touches like non disposable wooden chopstocks, stoneware bowls, etc. that really make a difference. Service is friendly and attentive. I look forward to returning.
