I almost always steer away from pasta dishes whenever I’m eating out because I hold this completely false belief that I can make the same dish at home. It’s completely untrue but it still takes a lot of convincing to get me to order any pasta dish. Nevertheless, I’m so glad I was talked into ordering the chicken marsala. I was also able to share garlic and herb pasta from Anthony’s too. Both are AMAZING As a carnivore, I want protein, be that chicken, beef, or pork, with every meal. Without a protein, I see that meal as more of a «snack» and it leaves me unsatisfied. However, the garlic and herb pasta from Anthony’s is so flavorful that I did not miss the protein at all. That’s a bold statement, coming from me… but that pasta dish so good. I could eat it every day. I really liked the garlic and herb pasta but I LOVED the chicken marsala. There is a hint of sweetness with the sauce that kept me coming back for more. The pasta still had a nice bite to it… even the next day when I reheated my leftovers! If you’re debating what to get, try the chicken marsala. I’ve tried two of the pizzas via delivery a couple of months ago during one of my late night study sessions. It was okay but not nearly as memorable as the pasta. So if you go to Anthony’s, GOFORTHEPASTA!

I was always told that Church Hill is home to a lot of culinary greats in Richmond, so this is definitely another restaurant to chalk up as a great eating establishment in the area. I came here with the boyfriend’s family last night and it was a great experience. I ordered the Saltimbocca, which was chicken wrapped proscuitto with mozzarella, roasted red peppers, on top of spaghetti with a marsala wine sauce. I’ve never had anything like it before, and I’m glad I tried it here! The pasta was cooked perfectly, and that marsala wine sauce was lovely. I had a small piece of pizza from the boyfriend’s brother; the crust was nice and crispy and the sauce had a nice savory tomato flavor. We sat near the counter next to the pizza oven, and we saw tons of pizzas being cooked all night(plus it’s $ 3 off pizza on Sunday), so you can tell they do something right. Our server was nice, we didn’t see much of him, but my water glass was always full, so that was a plus. I only wish they delivered elsewhere in Richmond, they noted on their menu that they deliver to the Church Hill area. We live in Scott’s Addition, so we’ll definitely venture across the city again to try more of their food!

I am just really not impressed with this place. I honestly think the pizza at Dominos is better… Anthony’s has been disappointing to me and out-of-town guests when we decide to order pizza at the last minute. Expecting great Richmond food, I’m always sort of bummed to explain«This is kind of the only delivery pizza around here. sorry.» The first time is was just meh, I wrote it off as a fluke and tried again. 2 more pizzas coming to me cold in the middle with unmelted cheese and totally burned edges and… I give up. These are basic cheese pizzas, and priced a little high for that and the quality.

Mediocre meal. Salads were a flop, with cheap ingredients and low on flavor. Pizza was fine, albeit relatively generic and certainly not the best in the city. Not worth the price tag.

You know in movies where characters have date night at a cute little neighborhood Italian restaurant that’s not too pretentious but the food is on point? That’s this place. Fresh ingredients and friendly staff, it’s the perfect recipe — they even have date night specials on Wednesdays! And the pizza… The pizza is my favorite in Richmond. New York style, it’s crust is perfectly crisped with just a touch of crunch while the cheese and whatever other toppings you desire sit atop a sauce — for which the restaurant has become famous. A unique blend of flavors, it adds a little something extra to their pizza making it a true original. If you really like the sauce, you can even buy a jar and try your hand at pizza making — though you’ll never come close to Anthony’s pizza. Anthony’s is located in the heart of Church Hill in a corner storefront but they also deliver(!!) if you live downtown. The prices are on point as well; I don’t think there’s an entrée for more than $ 15.

Excellent, consistantly good pizza! Crispy crust and amazing sauce. We have never«dined in» but the gentleman at the front check out is always very friendly. In my opinion, BEST pizza in richmond!

Perfect crust, toppings and execution. This is a pizza joint for those that can discern a quality pie. The atmosphere is close and quaint and the staff are warm and welcoming. Don’t miss this.

Just had the most wonderful lunch at this most enjoyable little restaurant on the hill. Will provided the service and his excellent recommendations led to rave responses from everyone at our table. People on the hill know this is a gem but the rest of us should make the effort to gain enchantment.

Ordered a pizza for delivery from Anthony’s on Saturday night after wanting to try their pizza for a while. It did not disappoint. My fiancé had his half of the pizza margarita while my half was the white pizza with the arugula. They do not skimp on the arugula! My half was covered in arugula. The crust was cooked to perfection, thin and crispy. The white pizza has a bit of a bite to it. When I say bite, I do not mean hot but there is something on it that is tangy. I think it might be a dressing they pour over the arugula or the white sauce itself. Either way, it kept it interesting and yummy. I cannot wait to try Anthony’s again and see what deliciousness their pastas hold.

Awesome Italian place in the heart of Church Hill. Unassuming exterior, but the inside is nicely done. It’s a small place, seating maybe 25 or so, but if you go during the week you’ll have no trouble getting a table. The staff have always been welcoming, the place is always clean, and the food is outstanding. The chicken parm is a must try, but the real stars of the show are the pizzas. The 3 meat and white are simply delicious. Do yourself a favor and try Anthony’s. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

Anthony’s is right don’t the street from us and I have been there a few times already. The first time I went I wasn’t very impressed, I had the meatball Za and it was burnt… I so wanted them to be amazing because I live so close. The GF’s parents were in town the other weekend and took us to back and I had the Chicken Piccata(very good). The last Friday after a wine tasting at the Richmond MFA we called in an order for the Arugula ZA, OMG it was so good. I’m so glad I gave them another chance. For all of you Unilocaler who rush to judgement remember my story.

Ordered dinner for delivery the other night and this time we decided to go with pasta instead of the amazing pizza. The chicken piccata was great! As was the garlic bread with cheese and caprese app. The spaghetti with bolognese sauce was just okay. Too dry, not enough meat or sauce, so won’t order that again. Please add more meat and sauce to that! Fast delivery and food was still warm when it arrived.

Incredibly good food, served quickly, by always friendly staff. Anthony’s On The Hill has become one of my favorite restaurants in Richmond. Everything I’ve tried on the menu has been excellent, with my two favorites being the eggplant parmesan and the«Anthony’s Special» pizza. This is the best pizza I’ve had in Richmond. I like that the restaurant is generally rather quiet, even when it’s somewhat full of customers. It just never seems to get too loud. The staff is always friendly and attentive, and I’ve never had anything but a great experience there.

I hate to do this but I just don’t love this place anymore. maybe they’ve changed or my preferences have changed since I last had it but the pizza just doesn’t do it for me anymore. I will say the people who work here are amazing. so nice and so welcoming. but the sauce on the pizza was horrible. the crust was super good but I just couldn’t get past the sauce. there was something about it that was so off putting, maybe too much oregano? I haven’t tried the pasta or any other dishes but I would never get the pizza again.

Absolutely fantastic. Some friends brought over a meatball pizza and it was so heavenly that I took my «pizza and ice cream» friend there for dinner a few days later. We had the meatball pizza(for my second time and certainly not the last). The meatballs are out of this world. More like meat cake. So flavorful and rich, and with the red sauce on the pizza(which is a perfect balance of sweet and savory), they are amazing. The crust is perfectly crisp on the outside and still soft and chewy inside. We also got a white pizza. As much as the meatball was a fireworks display of flavors, the white was like an amorous whisper from the love of your life. Subtle and delicate flavors of garlic, ricotta, and olive oil, snuggled up together on that same divine crust and all as fresh as can be. The casual atmosphere was homey and comfortable. It was almost as if you’d been welcomed right into a family kitchen that just happens to have a decent amount of seating. We went early on a week night, but I would imagine it gets pretty crowded during prime hours and on weekends. Their renovation and décor choices have retained the old Church Hill charm, while also eliminating the old Church Hill filth. The service was equally hospitable and prompt. We normally trek out to Gelati Celesti after out regular pizza dates, and we were super pumped to find that at Anthony’s we wouldn’t have to. They serve a limited selection of GC flavors, so you get to support two local businesses at once. It was such an all around wonderful experience that I found myself wondering if I might move to Church Hill just to be closer to Anthony’s. I know that sounds a little extreme, but I get really excited about great pizza.

Service was excellent. My wife and I tried this after deciding to eat someplace new. The place was small but not without charm. The pizza was delicious. They do serve a small selection of wine, but I had the root beer instead. My wife and their lemoncello cake for dessert.

Here’s to my new favorite neighborhood restaurant: Anthony’s. Located in the midst of a well-visited Churchill crossroads, the place exudes quaintness and ease where families walk in from across the street to pick up pizzas, and visitors sit down to chomp on some delicious dishes. The place is small but accommodating for medium-sized parties. Service was on point making it a charming catch-up evening with friends. What to chomp on: 1. Arugula salad — a large will serve 2 – 3 diners. Best part were the artichokes and prosciutto chips. I will note that it is a bit salty. 2. Saltimbocca $ 14.50 — shared amongst 2 – 3. Um, three AMAZING juicy chicken breasts stuffed with prosciutto and mozzarella over ziti that had just the perfect tang and sweetness. Salivation central… 3. Sunny Side Pizza $ 15 for a medium — okay but not one that I would choose again. The eggs were a bit dry despite the runny yolks. I’d definitely go for the meatball pizza or Anthony’s Special next time. Parking is available along side streets. My recommendation is to order the root beer(comes in a bottle) to go with your pizza. Yums.

It’s official: Anthony’s on the Hill is my go-to place for take-out pizza. Bottoms Up is still my favorite, but you can only get pizza like that once in awhile. Anthony’s is the best no frills, normal, yet delicious pizza. Normal crust, normal sauce, normal cheese(although slightly lacking on ours), and a normal price. We had the Anthony’s Special, and it came out fast with fresh ingredients. We also ordered the caprese as an appetizer, which although technically had all the components of caprese, all of the ingredients were chopped up and served in a bowl. So it could have been much nicer with the traditional sliced and stacked presentation, but it wasn’t a terrible start to the meal. Service was friendly, the place was clean, so what more could you ask for? Definitely a fan!

I ate the crust. That, in itself, should be all the recommendation you need, because I never eat the crust. Crust is usually a means to transport delicious pizza into my mouth. Eating the crust is like saying, «I don’t want to eat anymore delicious pizza. I’d rather eat cardboard.» But NOT at Anthony’s! Crust is delightfully crisp with the right amount of chew and loads of flavor. I won’t bother making suggestions about toppings, as everyone has a favorite. Just know they use excellent, fresh ingredients, and whether you go with an old favorite or a new flavor, you’ll enjoy it. Pasta, salad, and dessert offerings are also enjoyable, but to be honest, I go for the pizza every time! Staff is friendly without hovering. They’ve added extra wine and beer offerings, something they sorely needed early on. Delivery is prompt and the pizza is still warm! Perhaps the only thing to keep in mind are the hours – if it is close to closing time, you’d better call ahead and make sure they’re still making pizza. Sometimes if it’s slow, I think they close up early. Not a bad thing, just something to keep in mind. I think it’s probably the best pizza east of VCU. Definitely give it a try!
