Maybe my expectations were too high, but the food was just exceptional. We ordered 2 Giant Steak and Cheese hoagies for pick up, which on the phone said it would take 20 minutes. We get there in about 25 minutes and they haven’t even started making it. The overloaded the sandwiches with ketchup as well. Overall the food was okay, but it wasn’t amazing as some claim.

First of all you do get your money’s worth it was the lot of meat on the sandwich it was pretty good the onion rings are great and the lemonade was just sweet enough it was really good. I definitely will put this on my list of return business especially for good cheesesteak. My vote is this is a keeper let’s support the small businesses

I was really underwhelmed by this place. I went in super excited given the Unilocal reviews and my love for Philly style sandwiches but it was made pretty poorly. They also use… unique toppings for a cheesesteak. The fries weren’t good either. How do you mess up fries? The place is also just gross in terms of ambiance. It looks really dirty on the inside. The guy also got my order wrong and then tried to charge me for fixing it.

I’ve had problems with this business before but I withheld writing a bad review but today was the last straw. On atleast 2 occasions I’ve come by when this neighborhood stop in is supposed to be open to find notes on the door saying«Be back in 15 minutes» So I adopted the practice of calling ahead. When they don’t answer the phone, which is often, I go elsewhere. Today I called ahead, and jackpot, they answered. Ordered the salmon cheese steak. I’ve had it before. $ 11 is a little pricey for a sub but it’s amazing and worth every cent. I arrived 10 minutes after I ordered only to be told there wasn’t any sauce for the sub. I was offered ketchup and mustard as alternatives to the special aioli sauce the salmon is cooked in and listed on the menu. WHYWOULDYOULETMEORDERITIFITWASNTAVAILABLE? Where was the courtesy to even notify me on the phone that you weren’t even cooking my order? That I would have to drive, be disappointed and have to wait for you to cook something else? After ordering the«something else» which was a cheesesteak, I paid. And waited and additional 45 minutes for the food. HORRIBLE service. I gave 2 stars for the food but in all honesty it’s only for the salmon cheesesteak. The Philly cheesesteak was average.

I ordered the Giant Steak and Cheese. It was GIANT. The taste was delicious. I like the small restaurant that has a simple operation. It appears that this place is a hit, because they were super busy. UPDATE: This restaurant has been closed for 2 months. I was hoping they would re-open.

The taste the size and the price makes an amazing trio! Open late on weekends as well.

Went to str8 outta philly tonight for dinner once again. Absolutely, enjoyed food. My giant cheesesteak with hot banana peppers was tasty and so filling. The roll was soft and the meat was not over cooked. I couldnt finish the other half, i felt defeated. Lol. I also ordered regular fries and they werent overly salty. Im giving the establishment 5 stars. But it was an order over the phone and the woman was very nice with my ordering. Also, my food was hot and fresh when I picked up my meal. The establishment was clean and orderly. Will order from again.

Mad at myself for sleeping on this place. The owner told me they been there for three years! But alas my search for a real cheesesteak on RVA is over. The place forgoes a glitzy atmosphere for a solid product. Also a surprising but noteworthy menu option is Halal Turkey based subs. So friends who don’t do red-meat or have faith based diet restrictions can join in. So glad my years long search is over.

Amazing steak and cheese subs! Your choices are between a 12″ or 18″ so arrive hungry or have someone to share with! They use Amoroso rolls for their subs which really makes these subs top-notch. Honestly, I didn’t even know what they were before this place opened up, but I now fully understand why they ship these in from Philly. The bread is soft and chewy, yet hardy enough to contain the gooey cheesesteak inside. I get mine with everything including sweet peppers and mushrooms. It’s to die for. Of course, they have other variations of subs to choose from, but I’m willing to be the cheesesteak is the most popular. We just found out they were open til 2:00am, and that’s dangerous! Also, sure the place could use a facelift and is kind of shabby, but this is really more of a takeout place. Call ahead, pick it up, and eat at home :)

Well, First of all let me say that I’m a ‘boring eater’ and in NO way a ‘Cheesesteak’ expert, heck, I’ve Never had one in Philly to compare these to but I’ll get back to that. What I do know is the unmistakable Smell, yes, the smell of an Amoroso roll and these are the real deal. I grew up in NJ and will never forget visiting my Grandmom in Philly. She would always have Amoroso rolls in her house and would even have a bag of them ready for me to take home… yes I’m pathetic, but I bet I’m Not the only nut out there who loves this bread! Anywho, back to the ‘meat’ of this review. This past sunday I called up, ordered 2 giants, drove 30 mins home and then opened them up. Crap… Not what i ordered but no biggie for my wife and I. I’m in NO way going to say they weren’t ‘very good’ ESP after a 30 min ride home but I had some ‘construction’ issues. It looks like they put the cheese on the bread then the meat on it and NOT mixed into the meat as it’s cooking? I then said to my self… «Johnny G, you must give them another try and Really show the world what you mean by going off your Gluten free diet!!!»… So, I called in an order today, got there just as the the guy was wrapping my Boring ‘Cheesesteak with just provolone’ .aka, very hot and fresh and ran for my truck to stuff my face. The first thing I noticed is. hmmm… feels a little light, aka, not enough meat? I was correct, not in any way skimpy, but not enough meat to me and yes, they do NOT mix the damn cheese into the meat as it’s cooking. Not the end of the world, but just not worth a 30 min ride there for me, sorry. Am I being picky… maybe… I’m sure if i got peppers, onion etc it wouldn’t be ‘as dry’ but i shouldn’t have to do that!!! Bottom line is, if you’re ever in Key West, go to a place called Mr. Zs. He’s also a Philly native who ships in Amoroso rolls. Order a ‘Cheesesteak with just cheese’ and you’ll SEE and taste what I’m comparing all my cheesesteaks to!!!

I decided that for my 100th review I wanted to review somewhere that serves up one of my favorite foods. As I’ve already eaten at half a dozen phở places and almost as many taquerias, I decided that it was time to eat at a real authentic Philly style cheesesteak shop. The problem with this is that RVA seems to be almost completely devoid of anything that falls into this category. Sure, there are Italian and sub shops that have Steak and Cheese, but these are all put on hard deli rolls with lettuce, tomato, and mayo. I was looking for a classic Philly Cheesesteak. –Food: Str8 Out of Philly is a no frills, honest to goodness Philly Cheesesteak shop. I ordered a classic style Cheesesteak with Provolone(although you can opt for Cheez Whiz), Mushrooms, and Banana Peppers. The bread is in the form of a fresh tasting Amoroso roll, which if you’ve ever had a legit Philly Cheesesteak, you know this is the only way to go. It’s soft and flavorful and just delicious. The steak itself is what you’d expect; thinly sliced steak which is then diced and melted with provolone. Str8 Out of Philly captures all of the flavor that I associate with a real deal cheesesteak with the delicious roll, properly prepared steak, and overall Philly Cheesesteak feel. I also had fries with the lunch combo I ordered, served in the crinkle cut variety. They were good, but I wouldn’t return for the fries. BUTTHATCHEESESTEAK. I used to eat at a few Philly Cheesesteak places in Upstate NY, and Str8 Out of Philly is on par, if not better. –Cost: Very fair. My combo was about $ 11, and the«Half» cheesesteak was no less than 10 inches long, maybe more. I was starving when I came here and it was a chore to finish, but was so good I couldn’t resist. Best $ 11 I’ve spent in a while. –Service: Alright, so I’m not going to sugar coat this. The service is mediocre at best. My order of a cheesesteak and fries took about 25 minutes, and my order was the first one of all the people there(which was only two other people). The employees aren’t rude, but didn’t go out of their way to be overly pleasant either. Although the cook did ask me how things were. –Atmosphere: Again, no sugar coating, I’ve been to nicer places. I think that Str8 Out of Philly aims to be more of a pickup place as there are 3 tables with 2 chairs each in a small dining area. The area is partially unfinished with loose cords and taped walls. I didn’t notice anything overly dirty as a couple reviews mentioned, but I’ve certainly seen nicer interiors. BUTTHATCHEESESTEAK. –Overall: Simply put, if you’re looking for a real Philly Cheesesteak and none of that lettuce, tomato, and mayo nonsense, do yourself a favor and come here. The wait is a little long so if you can, order in advance, but the resulting cheesesteak speaks for itself. If you’re wondering why I give it a 5 despite the service and interior, the answer is clear. THATCHEESESTEAK.

Best cheesesteak in town! HANDSDOWN! Other places may have different variations or more selection but this is all you need if you want a cheesesteak as good as a Tony Luke’s famous cheesesteak in Philly. Large, Philly sized portions and unbelievable taste from the cheese to the bread. I will never eat a cheesesteak anywhere else from now one, this place is incredible.

OMG!!! DISGUSTING!!! Was in the mood for a Philly cheesesteak and searched online and found this place close by. Looked on Unilocal and the reviews were good??? I ordered for pick-up and when I got there I was a little concerned about the outside appearance but went in. I was so disgusted by the smell(outside and in) trash cans right outside the door stinking. When you walk in all you see is FILTH. It smelled like dirt and not food. I was horrified. ITWASSOOODIRTY!!! I am not the type of person to complain out loud so yes I paid for my food and walked out the door. Went straight to another lunch spot to order lunch and threw the cheesesteak in the garbage. I didn’t even open it up because I was so disgusted with the cleanliness of the place that I knew there was no way in heck that thing was going in my stomach. Will never go there again and do not recommend this place at all.

Very good cheese steaks. One guy was working and it was definitely made to order. Shop is small and has a few tables for waiting and eating if you can’t wait. I don’t imagine many people stay. Prices are good for the giant subs. I got an 8 inch and could only eat half of it. Fries were freshly fried. Crinkle cut. Did have an upset stomach later, but maybe it was a coincidence? I would go again.

The workers are nice and friendly. They have a good attitude and are pretty low-key and chill. That’s all good and nice, but I am a little hesitant to give them more than 3 stars due to the wait. It was Sunday and there was only one couple ahead of us– we wait 35 minutes for two sandwiches. They were worth the wait though. I’d say if you were in the mood for a classic Philly cheese steak and don’t mind waiting, then definitely come here. Value for money is definitely there. I’d like to see them fix all the cables at the front where the TV is and perhaps fix their front door, but in time. I’ll come here again for sure.

They are big… by that doesn’t mean they are good. Cheez Wiz is cool and yellow but you can buy that at the grocery store. All in all I would avoid it for sure.

As far as a Philly cheese steak sub great hands down never been to Philly so can’t compare but I have tried alot of steak subs and this one is one of the best steak season and fresh OMG they will be seeing me at least once a month! As far as the atmosphere on a quit street not in the hood people walking there dogs. Its only 3 tables in there so be prepared for a takeout but they have a nice park around the corner that you can enjoy your food! Oh ya they have flavored water(icee) we tried to watermelon while we waited on the food it was good! btw I liked they had 3 different cheese you can choose from and that was a plus cause I do not like cheese whiz on my subs… they have cheese whiz, provolone, white american. If you are in the area and want a good sub I dont think you Will be disappointed! One more the people which was just the cook and the cashier was very nice and polite and friendly!

I went to Str8 Out of Philly for lunch today. A cheesesteak from Str8 Out of Philly has to be in the running for the best cheesesteak in Richmond, if not the best! I order a cheesesteak with everything on it. I must say, it was delicious. The flavor of the cheesesteak was amazing. I order a half sub and it was filling. The onion rings with the sub was really good. It’s good to have a great cheesesteak restaurant in Richmond .The service was really good and fast. The employees were friendly. The atmosphere is social. The inside of the restaurant has about 4 tables and a television .You can watch through the window while your cheesesteak is being prepared. If you want a great cheesesteak, Str8 Out of Philly is the spot to fulfill your needs. I definitely will return to get another cheesesteak! I give Str8 Out of Philly a 4.5 rating.

Wow. Okay, so I just made the move up to Church Hill, and last night was the first time I’d gotten a chance to walk around and see what kinds of take-out foods were at my immediate disposal. Not even half a block away, I ran into this little gem of a sub shop. Basically, the owner was tidying up at the end of the night with his daughter, and he welcomed me to the neighborhood, talked to me a little about the menu, and so on. I opted for a chicken cheesesteak, peppers, onions, and mushrooms, and then waited patiently while he clanged pleasantly away on the fry top. It took a second, but soon enough he had my steak wrapped up to go, and told me to come back and tell me what I thought. Well. I got back to my porch and rolled up in a layer of paper and a layer of foil was the massive torpedo of a sandwich on a REALAMOROSOROLL. Hot and super-fresh, well-seasoned, and I totally almost drooled on myself. So glad I saved half for lunch today. This is definitely a place I’ll be going to often for steaks and other subs. It is damn good, and rumor has it the owner used to be Donovan McNabb’s personal chef in Philadelphia, so that’s kind of a decent reputation to have.
