Berkeley Hotel

Worst hotel ever!
I’ve been awakened before I’d have cared to by loud housekeeping staff — slamming doors, shoving things into walls, generally making it pretty hard to sleep.
Housekeeper comes into my room and the DND sign is on, no good.
This AM was so loud I would have actually thought they were conducting construction or something in there. Hotel Internet and phone are terrible!

I booked online and I said that’s our anniversary we want to feel special because everybody wants to feel special their special day right? And we checked in and got the worst room in the hotel. Garage view, small tiny and dark, and corner!
I did even write a special request and wanna to feel special hotel was empty we didn’t even see people around we just super disappointed to staying there I wish I booked somewhere else. I feel like they don’t care your request and your special day. We never book from Berkeley’s anymore!!!

I’ve heard tons of good things about their food but never had enough intended to try it, probably because it’s located inside of a hotel. Anywho, the I walked in and was greeted almost immediately and I asked for a coffee. My waiter kept my mug no less than full my entire stay. Soon, the food came and I was amazed! I ordered from the brunch menu, which came with steak, little cubed potatoes, 2 fried eggs and a biscuit. Everything tasted like home cooking! I didn’t have to pick up the salt or pepper for the meal and thoroughly enjoyed all of it, from the server to the food. Will be back if possible.

I booked my reservation online and overall I feel like I got a lot for my money!
Upon arriving (which I was super early for the normal check in time) I’m greeted with smiles and a politeness. The valet (Amber) was very accommodating and helpful even with questions about local places to eat. She checked my bags and I walked around.
Now for this being a smaller establishment (only 55 rooms), I find my room small there was no mini fridge or microwave but honestly I didn’t need one, just thought it’d be nice. The bathroom was very large and lovely. Room was very clean and came with a blow dryer, so I didn’t have to use mine.
I had breakfast delivered to my room, was very good and hot. Coffee was delicious and they accommodate to my lots of creamer for my coffee.
Upon leaving valet came and got my bags from my room and my car was already waiting for me. Lovely service overall. I was so pleased with room service and valet, that each persons received a$ 20 top from me. I definitely got a 4 diamond experience and more.

a friend, told me not to book here but I did not listen. our balcony room looks nothing like the pictures and the heat doesn’t work and there are no extra blankets to try to keep warm. the very nice lady at the front desk asked me if I had turned the system on and off to try to make it work… if that is a problem I would think they would leave a sign telling you how to «fix it. also our room apparently has the water system valve in the ceiling so we listened to the non stop humming of that all night. and bring your own pillow! these are about as nice as the ones they used to give you on planes. we booked through expedia and from past experience hotels give their worst rooms to travel site bookings. do NOT stay at this hotel if you are looking for luxury.

I really enjoyed my stay here. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating — it spoke volumes to me that there was always a staff member at the front door ready to open it whenever i walked in or out. It’s the little things.
They have valet parking which is $ 21/​day, or you can park in the nearby parking garage for $ 14/​night. However, I didn’t experience any issues using street parking. Right outside is 2 hour parking (which ends at 6p, and has no limit on weekends). I was able to find a parking spot here multiple times at different times of day — I even went over the 2 hour time limit (accidentally) a couple times on a Monday between 8a and 1p, and wasn’t ticketed. Parking really isn’t a problem.
The hotel is located right in the heart of the historic district of Richmond, and it was so quaint and fun to wander around. I found 2 great coffee shops within walking distance, a delicious place for breakfast, and another place for lunch right within walking distance. The location couldn’t be more ideal. The room itself was very nice and extremely clean. Even has a little notecard telling you the forecast for the next day, with chocolates for each person staying in the room. Again, it’s the little things.
If I had any criticism, it would be that the shower had VERY low water pressure. I had to take an abnormally long shower in order to get all the shampoo and conditioner out of my hair. The other person staying in the room with me had the same issue when she showered the night before. Additionally, the description mentions that there is a fitness center, which is untrue. They are affiliated with the YMCA and will give you a guest pass, but it’s not nearly as convenient as it would be to have an on-​site exercise room.
Overall, this was a really pleasant and enjoyable experience. I would certainly stay here again if I come back to Richmond.

Need to update my review. My husband, after waiting long enough to calm down, call the Berkley’s dining room director, and discussed the problems we’d encountered simply so they’d know there was something that needed fixing, She was very nice, and offered another dinner on the house.

The pic’s you see on Unilocal or on the hotel website and the new rooms. We stayed on the 3^rd floor which I would never do again. The room was ok, but the noise from the street was really loud. The location is good with many places to eat and drink within walking distance.
The staff was very friendly, but when I asked for a couple of bottles of water the lady at the desk said she didn’t have any and they would have to be sent up. 30 minutes I called down and said to forget it. Like I said, if you stay on one of the top floors which are new and would be less exposed to the street noise you would probably have a better experience.

Staying at the Berkeley Hotel the night before my wedding and wedding night was one of the best decisions I made for my big day. The folks at the Berkeley hotel were gracious enough to offer a HUGE beautiful parlor for the ladies in the bridal party to get ready in. All of the employees were so kind and accommodating during my entire stay. The room itself (king terrace suite) was very clean, had plenty of room, and a huge balcony overlooking the city. Thanks SO much Berkeley Hotel for such a spectacular experience!

I stayed at the Berkeley for a conference and was entirely pleased with my accommodations. My accommodations were paid for so I can’t speak to the value of the hotel (as related to the cost), but I can say that the staff were extraordinarily friendly and accommodating, and they went above and beyond to make sure my stay was an enjoyable one. The next time I find myself needing a room in Richmond I’d happily choose this hotel again.

My expectations were higher!
For the price paid, I could have done better in a Hilton Garden in .
They charge 21 dollars for valet parking or $ 35 for oversized but it is not necessary, you could find parking easily in the street .
The breakfast is expensive and nothing to brag about .
I had a much better breakfast at the Renaissance
Hotels .
The rooms are extra small, bathrooms are ver small and looks like a Hampton inn type of bathroom,
I gave it a 3 stars because the service was good.
The front desk reception lady (Lilianna) were very cordial and helpful. so were the housekeeping and the waitress in the restaurant.

A perfect place to stay if visiting Richmond, especially travelers w/​dogs! Staff and accommodations top notch. Very reasonable prices too.

Just want to say that you should never book a hotel room at The Berkeley Hotel in Richmond Virginia. My husband and I booked a hotel room there 4 months ago for the VCU Richmond UCI Road World Championships (still 10 months away) and got a confirmation number only to be told that our confirmed reservations would be canceled today! Never will I book there again and I am going to spread the love to my friends to by telling them to stay far away from such awful customer service!

I choose the Berkeley Hotel after attempting to book the Omni for a few nights and finding that all their rooms were booked. The Berkeley is right across the street.
Staying at the Berkeley gives you access to the YMCA in the Omni building. This was nice, but I was there on a very cold, unexpectedly snowy day in February and would have preferred not to have to run across the street in my gyms clothes (shorts and a t-​shirt). It would have been nicer if the gym was located in the same building as the hotel, but this is a relatively small complaint.
The décor was a bit stuffy, but overall it was a nice, well appointed hotel that was a pleasure to stay at. The women at the front desk were very friendly. In the future, I’ll probably stay at the Omni to get reward points as well as few other perks they offer (morning paper, fruit in the lobby, a rewards program), but I think the Berkeley is a great alternative!

Very pleased with my stay at the Berkeley Hotel although it was for one night! Parking was not that bad, there was parking garage near the hotel which is a walking distance. Everyone was very welcoming!

This was my first time to Richmond, VA and I couldn’t have had a better experience. The room was beautiful and extremely clean. The ladies at the front (especially Starlett helping me find a nail salon!) and the valet associates were warm and friendly. I ordered room service a couple of times and the food was pretty good and the service was prompt. I’ll be coming back in the spring and will be staying here again!

I had the worst experience here. They ruined my car with the valet and laughed at me. It was one of the most terrible things I’ve been through.
I was put up at the Berkeley hotel for work with my now wife. I got to the hotel around 10pm and used the valet accordingly. The next morning, I got my car back, it smelt of burnt rubber and it wouldn’t move. Clutch was fried! There was also a bunch of soda cans and wrappers in it. I told the manager Denny Pierce and he laughed at me.
A local mechanic told me it seems the valet didn’t know how to drive a manual and rode it with the ebrake on and destroyed the clutch. I even had the mechanic that I had to car towed to speak with Denny and they said he was very rude.
My advice is stay away. I travel for work and never had this terrible of an experience. It cost me $ 1100.
Also, my neighbors at the hotel overheard my initial conversation with Denny and said he was outright rude and unaccomodating to their parents staying at the hotel who are in their 80s when the a/​c didn’t work.
Go to the Jefferson. I’ve moved there now when I go to Richmond.

So you go to the Berkeley Hotel, see the well-​appointed lobby and vintage feel and think you’re doing something special by staying in a historically important inn. Then you google them and they’re not even old — they just DECORATED old. Hm.
The beds are comfy, the bathrooms are nice and big, but the rest is just ho hum for the price.
The breakfast was good but way overpriced. I got the frittata and it was flimsy piece of see-​through egg with a few veggies.

My husband, daughter and I stayed at The Berkeley last week, having gotten an excellent price for a Saturday night through
. I was expecting the hotel to frown on our bringing a two year old, but they didn’t bat an eye– in fact, everyone was super nice and helpful. The bellman in particular was great– he helped us up with all our bags, valeted our car, and even helped me with my daughter (who was asleep on my shoulder).
The crib we asked for was in the room when we checked in, and though the room wasn’t the biggest, it was very luxurious and clean.
We got free breakfast as part of our package, and it was amazing. Our servers were so nice and helpful with my daughter, the food was great, and overall– I’d HIGHLY recommend this hotel.
The only downside is parking in the area is hard to come by, and valeting your car is $ 20+ per night. There’s a lot up the street, so you can park there and maybe save some cash… but if you have a sleeping kid and lots of bags like I did, valeting is probably worth it.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Berkeley Hotel during the fourth of July weekend. If traveling during the summer, the hotel is located on a cobblestone street downtown amongst great nightlife. Everything you might need is located nearby. There is a Seven-​Eleven on the next block up. In terms of restaurants, there are countless ones around in walking distance.
Then for the best part of the location… the night life. Within walking distances you have a huge number of bars, clubs, and lounges available. Apparently I lucked out picking this hotel because of the location. By simply walking out the door of the hotel I had many options to hang out in terms of venue and crowd. The only negative was the time everything closes down. Richmond downtown shuts down at 2. The hotel has nothing to do with that though.
Regarding the service and staff, everyone was lovely and made my stay comfortable. I can’t speak too much on the rooms because I didn’t spend much time there. However, they provide robes, coffee machine, pretty good smelling soap that I was sure to use, and something I’m not use to seeing at hotels, both male and female scented hand sanitizer.
