Pretty good options when it comes to lunch. I ordered the chicken tenders and a side of onion rings. You get 3 pieces of chicken when you order the strips and good portion of onion rings. My meal with a bottle of water came to $ 7

The breakfast items that are healthy for you are great! Ice cold cottage cheese and fruit, oatmeal and grits hot and delish. Starbucks coffee, hot and ice cold half and half. Can’t get better. The staff are so nice, and very chill.

Cheerful service, light and airy dining room. Next time you are at Kaiser Oakland and start feeling a bit peckish, excuse yourself and drive over to Richmond!

Let’s talk about this place real quick. It was early in the morning and my dad and I had an hour to spare while my mother was in surgery. We decided not to leave the hospital just in case her surgery ended early. So we venture downstairs and end up in this cafeteria. They have one chef that makes your food after you order. Since I didn’t want to wait, I ordered something that was already cooked: hash browns and sausage patties. What. A. Huge. Mistake. What was left of the hash browns was scooped onto a paper plate. They looked oily and old. And the two patties I ordered looked like they had been sitting in that warmer forever. My dad ended up ordering a croissant sandwich, so the chef started on that. The cashier, who is also in charge of wiping the tables was wiping a few empty tables with a wet rag. So we waited for her to come back over to charge us for our orders. When that was over, we looked for a place to sit. Keep in mind that my plate is a paper plate and the cashier had just wiped the tables… so, of course, I couldn’t put my food down. I ended up wiping the tables with one had while I had my food in the other. By this time, my dad’s food had just finished cooking. Anyway. Back to the food. The hash browns ended up being oily and hard. And my sausage patties were bland and horrible. My dad seemed to enjoy his sandwich. I didn’t try it cause I had lost my appetite by the time he offered me some. Overall, I expected more from Kaiser. A lot more. I guess I just have to keep in mind that this is a hospital cafeteria…

This cafeteria dishes out a mean grilled cheese. If you ask nice, they’ll add pickles or tomatoes, if that’s your predilection. Who am I kidding. You don’t even have to ask nice.

Disclaimer: I’m reviewing the food they serve from their CAFETERIA. Not their medical services. Okay, now that I’ve gotten that off my chest, let’s commence to the reviewing. This place actually churns out some pretty durned good food. I’ve mosied to this place on several occasions(I work in the area), and have felt good about the food that I’ve eaten. Why is she saying good things about Kaiser? Are the HMOs paying her off? No I’m not being paid off by the HMOs, because if I were, I would not be working in Richmond, CA, no less, and that’s just a goofy question. Back to my review. When you enter the cafeteria(after passing the hospital maze that organized medicine is famous for) which does have it’s own sign, so don’t worry, you’ll find it, you’ll see some examples of what the Cafeteria staff has available. Just about all the choices have a vegetable goody included in the price, which isn’t all that cheap, but isn’t all that expensive either. And get this, there are nutritional information in the cafeteria, so if you’ve ever felt guilty about not getting your nutrients on, Have No Fear, Kaiser has a visible list of what you should eat, and how much of it to eat. It actually clears up the question of hmmh? What should I plop onto my salad plate? because, there’s a list of what and how much of said what should be going into your body machine. I think it’s pretty rad myself. The food is actually pretty tasty, proving that tasty and good for you CAN co-exist on the same plate. So, if you’re in the area, or just in Kaiser Richmond for a medical appointment, go into the Cafeteria and get full and healthy. What a concept!
