After spending the week in RVA for vacation I reached out to this salon for a last minute appointment(Sat). Jeveta Herman took my call and was very pleasant. She was able to fit me in for a wash and set(short hair) with little to no wait. I greatly appreciated the flexibility and professionalism of the entire team. When I am back in RVA I will definitely schedule an appointment. If/when I move to Richmond this place will be my weekly spot. Thanks and Happy New Year! Continued success!

Had my hair cut by the lovely Talytha and I am beyond pleased! I hadn’t had a trim or cut since the Spring time so to say I was in need is an understatement. Having known Talytha for a long time, I trusted her. I have sent friends to her in the past and they have been very pleased, so I figure I could trust her with my own hair. My hair has gotten pretty long over the past year and is now down the middle of my back. However, I was finding it to be flat and boring, so I was desperately in need of a change. I told her exactly what I wanted(long layers, no «V» formation, that added movement and body) and that’s what I got! I have been loving it so far and am thinking about adding highlights to complete the look. Thanks, Talytha! I highly recommend her for all of your hair needs :)

I have never before gone to a salon and gotten exactly what I wanted until yesterday with Lenise. She was very patient during my consultation and helped me clarify what I wanted. Lenise is an expert at what she does, and I respected her professional opinion and advice. Also, the atmosphere in the Salon was very quiet and relaxing. I was able to sit in the chair and read a book while she worked. I’ve gotten so many compliments on my hair. I definitely intend to go back. The prices are also very affordable.

I must say I absolutely love Canvas the Salon. It’s a professional yet personable experience. Lenise does an amazing job with leading her clients to healthier hair. Not only does she take time consult with her clients but she uses various inspirations to create an amazing result. Relaxed or natural these ladies do it all very well!

I came across this salon on Unilocal and vagaro and decided to give it a try. So glad I did. Lenise did my natural hair. She had a job on her hands because I had some major breakage. She did a really great job with trimming my ends and reconstructing my hair. The salon is very clean and has a modern taste to it. Love the experience. Will be visiting again in the future.

Lenise has done an amazing job styling my short, natural curly hair. I have never left her salon disappointed. I always considered myself a plain Jane until I started going to Lenise. She gives me these funky hairstyles that I absolutely love and I can walk out of her salon with confidence. I always get compliments whenever she does my hair. She just did my hair this past weekend and asked me if I wanted some color and even though I’ve never had my hair colored before, I knew I could trust her so I said«sure, why not» and not only did I love the style, I loved the color. I will definitely be getting my hair colored again. The shop is easy to get to, I never have any problems with parking, the atmosphere is nice, it’s clean, it’s professional and it’s definitely my go to salon. If you have short, natural curly hair I highly recommend that you contact Lenise. You won’t be disappointed!

This salon is amazing! Very professional, but personal at the same time. I feel very pampered and relaxed each visit. All of the stylist do great work, but I absolutely love Lenise. I’m natural and my hair has never been so healthy. By far the best salon in RVA!

I just moved to Richmond 6 months and have had a hard time finding a hair stylist that can do natural hair. I was just about at wit’s end and on the verge of going back to a perm when a coworker told me about Canvas. Two words describe my experience: Heaven Sent. They not only can do natural hair but they also educated me on what causing the breaking I was having. Booking an appointment was easy online. When I got there, I was pleasantly surprised by the relaxed décor. I didn’t sit long before I hopped in Lenise’s chair. I’m not on to write reviews but after the stress I been going through I had to share my experience. Thank you, Canvas! I’ll be back. –Tiffany

Lenise at CTS is the bees knees! She was my first stylist when I transitioned to natural several years ago but conflict with our schedules didn’t allow me to see her often. Now that she is in it full time I am so happy! She maintains my tapered natural and is also my colorist. As I let it grow out again I know that she will be able to take care of my hair whether it’s short or long, natural or relaxed. The atmosphere of the shop is elegant and peaceful and is always a great experience.

This review is for Star and her assistant, Alicia, who will be working out of Canvas as of March 15, 2014. I have only been fully natural(with a head of VERY thick, mostly 4A hair) for a year and a half now(plus one year of transition) and have only had my hair blown out once. I am ridiculously afraid of heat damage and afraid to do it myself. When I had it done a year ago(along with a cut), they charged me $ 75 for the blowout and the cut(flat iron was going to be another $ 85)…and sent me out looking like a clown with a head full of straight(ish) big hair.(This salon was located in NJ.) So when I came home to Richmond after an extended absence, getting a good blowout/flat iron and trim to check my length was one of the things I really wanted to do. But NOT Dominican style. A Google search for«natural hair» «blowout» «Rchmond» lead me to «Isis the Salon,» Star’s shop, then at IEC. Her reviews were absolutely amazing and, within them, were all the words I needed to calm my nerves. «Trust,» «natural hair… not shedding as much,» «healthy and bouncy,» «professional,» «she is excellent,» «took her time,» «my hair looks like I had a perm.» SOLD!(you can see the reviews if you do search for«Isis the Salon» and Richmond.) I was immediately greeted by Alicia. Star was working on another client(a weave that also looked amazing) but had me sit at the next station so she could soothe my fears, check out my hair and its texture, and tell me exactly what was going to happen. After looking it over and telling Alicia what treatments to use, Alicia and I headed to the shampoo bowl. I had my hair in a two-day old twist out, so she was shocked after she wet it, put the treatment in and came back five minutes later at how much it swelled up, LOL! After a very thorough shampoo, another treatment, and 10 minutes under the dryer, it was time for the blowout. At first I was nervous because Alicia was doing the blowout, not Star. The reviews had said nothing about Alicia. But Star reassured me that Alicia does the blowout and does it well. And INDEEDSHEDID! She spent 30 minutes sectioning my hair into twists so she could work with each section on medium heat. Then it was Star’s turn with the flat iron. One pass at 410° was all it took. Then she trimmed the ends and styled it. It was beautiful. My hair is longer(bra strap length, YES!) than it’s ever been before! And gorgeous. It’s been a week now and my hair STILL looks fabulous. And the price? Let’s just say it was probably a third of what it would have cost me in NYC. So if you want a team that can take great care of your hair, whether it be natural like me, relaxed or weaved, don’t hesitate to connect with Star and Alicia. I know i will whenever I’m home.
