This salon did not honor my appointment time and the owner (Simone) lacks respect for her customers. Though my up-​do was fine, I was less than pleased with Simone’s treatment of me when I requested more than $ 10 off for an appointment that was almost an hour late.

My hair is considered a glamor color meaning a whole head of blues, pinks, purples, so when I made the appointment she said she specialized in color, I was super happy to hear that. So I made the appointment and everything was nice at first but when she started doing my root she didn’t consider that I had 2 ½ inches of roots which mean she should have start a inch above the root than start doing the root. Then she started pulling the bleach through my mid shaft and where my hair was already bleached resulting in my hair falling out not only that she didn’t let the bleach set. Amy was wonderful she only did my cut but good job Amy. Simone I do appreciate you wanting to fix it but your area of expertise is not in the full head glamor colors, I hope you learn how to do this someday but until then you shouldn’t take clients when you can’t do the job.

Now I am going to be a little mean.
I think the response to me is childish to say the least. I didn’t say anything mean in my review just stated the facts so be an adult and learn to take criticism. Also your shop smells like a cat’s litter box… due to the fact you had to keep making the cat get out of the shampoo chair every time we had to use it.

I have been to quite a few hair salons in Richmond and my last hairdresser moved away. I was due for a bang trim so decided to try a new place, and picked Scissors based on other Unilocal reviews. The haircut was fine but I am very unhappy with my bangs. I told Simone specifically that I wear my bangs side-​swept and at least to my eyebrows. They ended up straight across my forehead and above my eyebrows. I do believe she would have done whatever she could to fix them, but as she said you cannot add length after you have cut it. I did tip her to be polite and the salon seemed to have a lot of happy regulars, but I will not be returning.

Simone is amazing. I have been going to her since I was a kid. On occasion I have gone elsewhere due to my lack of planning or living out of town but for the most part she has been the sole person to cut my hair for the past 20 or so years. As long as Simone is cutting hair she will be the one to cut mine.

This is an excellent salon. Things I liked the most:
1. Professional and freindly
2. Very comfortable atmosphere
3. Simone was very efficient. I was not held hostage for an entire afternoon.
4. My hair. I have been trying to achieve the perfect balance of hi-​lites and lo-​lites for over 3 years and in one sitting, Simone «got it». This is the best experience I have ever had and at a FAIR price.
I highly recommend this salon for hair, mani’s & pedi’s.

I absolutely love Scissors! Simone was able to fix a completely horrendous haircut that I received at a hair salon chain and managed to transform it into a totally chic hairstyle. I will from here on out go solely to Scissors.

Simone has been cutting my hair for 24 years. I would not be comfortable with anyone else touching my head with scissors.

Best color and cut I’ve had in years. I’m not kidding. Simone did wonders with my hair — and I am picky. She spent the time to consult with me to understand exactly what I wanted. Then she somehow created beautiful color in about half the time it has taken every other stylist I’ve had before. They also squeezed me in for a manicure, and Allison did an amazing job. She’s a real perfectionist. I really can’t say enough good things about this place. I’m hooked.

I love Allison! I have learned more about how to properly care for my thick hair in the two amazing visits w her then w any other hair salon. She truly cares about her clients and my haircut was amazing! Easy to replicate style wise and so nice!!! Even two months later I was still getting compliments in my hair cut!!! They are very educated and go to hair shows to learn new techniques and promote (not push) the products they have on site. She suggested I use tea tree shampoo and then just use conditioner on my ends and holy moly did that make a huge difference!!! I have found my hair lady!!! She is amazing!!!

Over charging, over charging!!! Even after they quoted me before the style. Greedy! Never again !

The best salon I have ever been to, period. I came here because my bangs were incorrectly cut at another salon and the lady that cut my hair did an incredible job of fixing it!!! Worth every penny. I forget her name but she reminded me of Drew Barrymore. Everyone here was superbly professional and friendly. I can’t wait to go back for another amazing haircut.
I also bought this beer bottle shaped hair product that I now am obsessed with. Not to mention the Smudge antifrizz product which I also liked!
P. S. You know you’re at a great place when the owner herself goes out into the street to help you get a parking spot because it’s your first time going there and you don’t know your way around.

I love going to Scissors and having Allison and Simone make me gorgeous! I am ADDICTED to the gloss hair color. I love how it leaves my hair silky and shiny, not to mention the beautiful depth of color. Allison is amazing with manicures and pedicures. I love chatting with her while she turns my nails into pieces of art!

I was in town for a wedding and called for a style. They were VERY accommodating and helpful. I loved what they did with fair and make-​up! I feel like a model and very special! Thank you. Sue

Wow… what an awesome place, awesome people, and outstanding hair professionals. The first time in 25+ years that I have gone for 6 weeks without color or a cut and my hair still looks unbelievable. It is the best I have ever had and cannot wait to go back for my next appointment. The entire team is warm, friendly, and professional!

Scissors! So much fabulousness from start to finish. Every single person, from staff to owner, was so kind and so welcoming; I felt as if I’d been going to the salon for years. The good experience started with them getting me in for a day-​of appointment (something they don’t usually do) for a pedi and gel mani. Allison did my gel mani and my hands and nails have literally never looked better — and I get gel mani’s on a regular basis. She was absolutely meticulous — happy, healthy, beautiful hands. Tasha did my pedi and took equal care and put so much attention into the tiniest details. I hardly even recognize my toes! The salon is walkable from the hotels in downtown (Omni, Berkeley, etc…). Highly recommend and cannot wait to go back.

I had THE best experience at Scissors today. It was my first time going there and I don’t think I will ever go anywhere else. I went in for a pedicure with Allison and I think I left with a lifelong friend! They do everything by appointment so it was only her and I for most of my time there and we talked and laughed and it felt like I was chatting with an old friend; something I have never experienced while getting my nails done.
Allison’s attention to detail while working on my feet and listening to what I had to say about what I wanted and expected from a great pedicure was bar none the most exceptional experience I have had with an aesthetician working on my toes! We talked about my hair and I cannot wait to go back and get it cut and possibly glossed; a process she told me about that I definitely want to try now that I know all about it!
When I was leaving, I met Simone, the owner. What great style she has, you can tell by the eclectic design of her shop. She really cares about what she is doing and that is the most important quality you can find in a business that wants to help you become a better you!
I found Scissors because they were two blocks away from where I lived but now that I’ve been there, I would travel MILES to go back. They were just that good.

First of all I have to say that I am really sorry for the two others on here that had bad experiences with his salon. I am surprised really. I got my hair done by a lady who used to work there and I swear to god she came from a magical universe where everything she touches, looks at or breathes on looks hip and gorgeous.
If it was legal, I would sell all of my personal possessions to buy her and have her do my hair for the rest of time. She is amazing.
She moved to Hawaii, which is why I haven’t been back to the salon (its just too sad to go back and not see her there) but I am honestly thinking about flying to Hawaii just to stand on the street corner screaming her name to see if I can find her and make her come back to Richmond.

Left with uneven haircut in the back of my head, when I look in the mirror it is way longer on my right than left, my office mate even commented about it. I have not gotten a call to ask how I like my new hair cut and color, probably because she knew I was not happy and even told me it was not what she wanted for me. If that was the case she should have fixed it or offered another appointment at a later time. My hair is yellow. YELLOW. I thought they were color experts. Otherwise; Cute shop, interesting area, but I won’t be returning.

This is going to be a long review because I simply cannot give this place enough praise! I’m in the military and before that a military brat so I’ve moved A LOT and I always hate trying to find a new place to get my hair done, toes, nails, massages and suchlike. This is truly a one stop shop!
Spray Tan — I originally came across scissors because I was going to an early spring wedding and needed a spray tan. I don’t put much stock in spray tan booths because it always comes out uneven and splotchy so I really needed someone who would spray it on me. I made an appointment with Allison and she gave me a tan that was even better than I imagined! She went to great lengths to make sure I felt comfortable and everything was done upstairs away in a private area. I was so pleased with the tan I ended up staying and getting some highlights.
Highlights — Allison really listened and understood exactly what I wanted for my hair. I got really natural highlights that were so good that the person who did my hair for the wedding asked where I got them done. I was so pleased I brought my very picky mother in for a cut and color.
Cut — My mother has REALLY thick hair and she’s picky about cut and coloring. I got her an appointment with Simone (different strokes for different folks, I knew my mother would prefer someone who was older whom she felt she could connect with more) She loved what Simone was able to do with her hair as far as thinning and cutting, I don’t remember exactly the name of what she did but no matter what you get done Simone is very attentive as well in listening to what you really want.
Up-Do’s & Make-​up — Simone made me feel like a complete princess when I got an up-​do and make-​up done for a night out. Check out their website and facebook pages for more pics (I’ll post one here too) but it doesn’t get any better than this. She took extra time to make sure I was happy and the whole look was just right.
That said I’ve also had my lip waxed and gotten pedicures too. They also recommended a shampoo & conditioner that have done wonders for my hair! Plus the hours are great because I can make it after work! I really love the atmosphere, the charm and attitudes that go with the great services. Simone & Allison know me when I come in, they ask about things in my life and offer me something to drink, and it’s those small touches that are lost in other places which makes Scissors Hair Studio exceptional.
