The pizza at Capriccios is quite good. We like the flavor and style of crust(thin) and the sauce is very good as well. In fact, since both are so good, we have begun to be a bit more minimalist with the toppings. Often we will just add pepperoni. Even though it is not listed under«Optional Toppings», they usually have fresh basil you can add as well(for an additional price). I do wish they served kalamata olives instead of the generic black and green ones. Also, I would prefer peppers other than the green bell type. We did order the White Pizza once but didn’t like it – too much cheese, soggy, and the flavor was a bit bland. Sometimes we go to Capriccios thinking that we will perhaps order a pasta dish, but because the pizza is so good, we stick with that. We did order their calamari once as an appetizer, but I would not recommend it. It is pre-frozen and has a very thick coating/breading.

Excellent New York style pizza. One thing I’ll remember next time is to forgo the extra cheese. It was about a half inch thick when it was all said and done. Also tried the rice balls. They were OK, but nothing to write home about. Definitely worth an encore someday.

Surprisingly good pizza. The crust was delicious. Crispy and very flavorful. The cheese tasted like real cheese. The only negative was that the sauce tasted like canned sauce and not homemade. It wasn’t bad, but with homemade sauce, the pizza would have been perfect. Get the chicken roll. It is delicious. The sausage roll was good as well.

I went the other night and ordered Tortellini Alfredo. It was very good(and it is hard to find good Alfredo sauce in Glen Allen). The bread was also tasty. The waitress was very friendly. But, they have an annoying policy of not letting the customer substitute anything for the salad that comes with the entries. I have encountered this before at certain places, and I find it to be very poor customer service. Why not let the diner get a cup of soup, or a few French fries, if he does not like salad? I am not asking for fillet mignon, just something of equal value to salad. Even if they said I could have soup instead but had to pay an extra buck for it, fine. The West End is packed with restaurants. In order to thrive, you have to give the customer what he wants. Were it not for this arbitrary policy, I would have gladly given them 4 stars.

Holy jeebus cheesesteak. Got the loaded version a few times, always more than expected. Somehow, the cheese is IN the meat. Sounds weird, I know… Just try it. Soooo good. Leaving this review after thinking maybe I was being a jerk by not giving other places a chance. Got my delivery and wished I had just ordered my sub from a tried and tested. LOVETHISPLACE!

*Takeout Review* I stopped by Capriccios for dinner after work a few times. The restaurant was busy around prime dinner hours(Friday). I ordered a meat pizza and rice balls. There was a 25 minute wait before my order was ready. The pizza came out fresh and hot. I thought Capriccios meat pizza was tasty. The crust had good texture. Capriccios pizza sauce and cheese was flavorful. There were plenty of meats on Capriccios meat pizza. Capriccios rice balls were fried to a nice crisp. The staff was friendly during check out. Capriccios is located in a small strip mall off of Broad St. There’s plenty of parking in front of the restaurant. Capriccios Pizza is a good choice for pizza in RVA.

They make a mean lasanga. Small wine list(and overpriced)… so stick with soda. We’ll be back to try their pizza.

I have only ordered take out and delivery from here and it is the best pizza in town! It’s not to pricey either. Every time I call the people on the phone are incredibly friendly. I love the white pizza and the meat combo pizza. Two of our favorites!

The food is decent but has certainly gone down in quality. Expect things like burned bread on your subs. They seem to like to talk more than cook and wait on customers, so your food might cook 3 – 4 minutes longer than it should due to the talking. That’s really the biggest issue I have with them. They seem to hire waitstaff with ZERO experience. They don’t notice the table is dirty when they come to your table with the menus and they seem to stand in the back in a trance. It’s not uncommon to not see a waitress from the time they bring the food until it’s time to get the check(which you often have to ask for because they are so clueless to their customers). How any waitress can sit something in front of you that is burned is beyond me. Those issues should never reach the customer. Not to mention, it shouldn’t be burned in the first place, if they were paying attention to detail. It’s like they just don’t care. They sell pizza by the slice. Last time I was in there, I ordered a slice and was told they didn’t have any slices ready at that time. I ordered a sandwich, a guy walks in, goes to the counter, orders a slice and gets it, not 30 seconds after I ordered. I like the place and will continue to support them because they are local, but they seriously need to change their hiring policies and get some people in there that have actually served food before. There are basic things people need when they eat and the staff need to understand enough about serving people to stay on top of those things. When someone looks up in an effort to catch your eye, it means they need something or you’re not paying attention to them. With the right staff, they’d get 2 more stars from me, because the food can be cooked much better and the service can be much better.

Fantastic Margarita Pizza… Wait staff pleasant… They don’t rush you out of there so you can enjoy your food and relax… Live music some nights which is a nice touch…

I’ve eaten here several times. Here’s my quick take: — great for dining in for lunch: pizza was hot, delicious, and very affordable — not so much for takeout: didn’t seem as fresh, but service was lacking greatly I was really turned off by this place when I purchased a groupon and used it for takeout for dinner. They made it very clear that they did not want to accept the coupon. Not the best on the service side of things.

I have to say that this will be my ‘go to’ place for pizza. My mom, who is 84 years young, has been searching for the perfect pizza. She’s hard to please… doesn’t really like anyone’s pizza, and isn’t afraid to say so. I was over at her house recently and she told me how good the pizza from Capriccios is.(She has a hard time getting around so she sends my brother out to get her some dinner sometimes.) Anyhoo… my husband and I were at the W. Broad St. Costco on a rainy Friday night recently after work and were ready for some dinner. Instead of having a slice of pizza at Costco I remembered that Capriccios was nearby. Man, it was really crowded in there so that was a good sign. We waited for just a few minutes and then were seated. We struck up a conversation with a couple at the adjoining table who said they come to Capriccios a lot. We had asked our waitress if they could do a ½ supreme pizza and a ½ deluxe pizza. They were forthcoming and said they were really too busy to do that on a busy Friday dinner time, so we settled for a large supreme pizza and only put olives on one half(DH hates olives). It was a really tasty pizza. The crust isn’t the massive doughy mess like a lot of places have. It is more thin and crispy but not too thin. Actually the first slice was absolutely wonderful. The longer the pizza sat on the pan though, the soggier it became so you have to watch that. The toppings had a great taste and it was not skimpy at all — loaded with toppings. The waitress was a real hoot and very responsive. We had some wine with our pizza($ 5.50 glass, reasonable) and it was a very enjoyable evening. We also ordered the 4 mini cannolis to go for dessert which we had when we got back home. Very tasty. We had two large slices of pizza left over so we had those the following day. Popped them in the toaster oven on the ‘toast’ cycle and it was truly crispy again and not burned at all. I highly recommend Capriccios. Oh, and don’t sit in the first two booths on the right as you go – they are those 2-seater booths. The couple we were chatting with told us that. For one thing, they’re right by the door and the table comes up way high on your chest when you are seated – very low seats. Over and out!

Quick tip: check in through Unilocal for 10% off! I came here for lunch and started off with mozzarella sticks as an appetizer. They weren’t anything special, but they weren’t badly done either. Ordered a medium deluxe pizza, which was pretty good and freshly made. Crust was thin and crispy all around, and the toppings were generous enough. Nothing too special in terms of taste, but good enough to satisfy a pizza craving(which I totally had). Ended the meal with a slice of the cheesecake, which I would like to take a second to rave about. It’s a plain cheesecake with a homemade crust, and the perfect New York style cheesecake. I’m usually not a big fan of plain cheesecake but this was totally worth it. Service was polite and attentive — we were never short on refills and we got the table cleared after appetizers and food was given promptly. Only complain was that booth was a little dirty when I sat down, and there wasn’t silverware given right away. Otherwise, not a bad local place to go!

I seriously find it impossible that I have not written a review about our go-to pizza place in RVA! Since moving here, we have tried so many places, and really have not found somewhere as good as Capriccios. Yes, it’s the middle of a random strip mall in the West End, but don’t let that fool you. Our«regular» order is a large pizza, half quattro stagioni, and the other half spinach and red onions. It is delicious every time. Also ordered a pepperoni/green pepper pizza in the past and it was great. This is NY style pizza through and through(and this is coming from someone who grew up on NY style pizza and has been searching for it ever since I left the northeast). Really perplexed by the negative reviews. We are always satisfied, and when we have guests in town we often order from here, and it is always a hit!

I have been coming to this restaurant for years. I always order the grilled chicken salad, replace olives with croutons, add grilled onions and peppers with the house Italian dressing which is specially made by the owner! The pizza there is the closest thing to New York pizza I could find in RVA. The staff is always friendly! Customer service is phenomenal, and the food will keep you coming back! Signed a regular customer.

I thought this was going to be a two-star review, but«Meh» is not quite firm enough. Let me start by saying that the pizza is probably a 1.5, in my opinion. It’s not that flavorful, and the dough texture/taste is uninspiring. I prefer Domino’s or Portrait House(W. Cary St.), and neither of those places is known for its great pizza(sorry, Domino’s). So, there’s that. This pizza gets the job done, but to say«I’ve had better» is the kind of thing one would say about pizza they’d want to eat again. As I look at the bottom of the pizza, I am reminded of cardboard. That’s not good. Anyhoo, I was in the mood for pizza, and I’ve gotten pizza three other places in the Richmond area(including Domino’s), and I thought it might be time to branch out. Hey, there’s a spot near me with good reviews! So, I go there. I check the reviews. I see their website is down(they’re working on it), but they have a Facebook page. And lo and behold, it’s their five-year anniversary! Tonight! Now! And for the past few days, they’ve been talking up their anniversary specials, including a $ 7.99 large pizza with $ 1 toppings up to three! They value their customers, they thank them for their patronage, and I’m about to be a new one! This all sounds great. I order the large pizza. I order the three toppings. I hadn’t done the math yet, and I couldn’t remember the amounts while standing there, so just in case I hadn’t hit $ 10, I added a soda. I saw that they had a minimum, and I thought I should hit $ 10, anyway. The total came to just under $ 21. At the time, I thought I must have read the special wrong, and I didn’t want to ask for a special I wasn’t supposed to get. It must have been my mistake, I figured.(And I’m Jewish, so I’m sensitive about asking for discounts(there are stereotypes, and I try not to embrace them. I didn’t even request the 10% off from the Unilocal coupon. I might be over-correcting the perception of the bargaining Jew.) I just sat down to wait even though it should have been an $ 11-ish pizza and maybe(?) a $ 2 soda plus tax. I couldn’t get my data to work in the restaurant, so I couldn’t check out what the Facebook page had said. But now that I’m home, I see it clearly says(posted today): «Don’t miss out on this special… Today marks our 5 year anniversary, We would like to celebrate with our customers, because without you we wouldn’t have made it to this point! October 13th our special will be $ 7.99 large pizza, $ 1.00 toppings limited to 3… Pasta dishes $ 5.99 which includes side salad and dinner rolls… pasta with meat or tomato sauce.(Does not include seafood, baked, veal, or gourmet dishes!) Not valid in combination with any other offers. Please tell your friends and family… Hope to see you there» There’s my large pizza with three toppings($ 7.99 + $ 3 = $ 10.99), and there’s no mention that I had to do anything special to get this special. Like maybe instead of wishing them a happy anniversary(I did), I should have said«I’ll take the anniversary special, please.» Nothing like that seems to be required. Heck, if I’d gotten it wrong, I would have hoped someone would have said, «If you order one more or one less topping/a different size it’s X dollars cheaper.» None of that happened – not the special price that they’d posted every day for a few days leading up to it, and no offer to get it by doing something different(in case I’d been wrong). So, now I’m home with my LARGE1.5 star pizza after getting 0.5 in service by not offering me the discount, particularly since I’d ordered as requested. It’s a very special one-day special. It’s not like I was ordering five veggies on a pizza that would have been cheaper if I’d asked for the«veggie special.» I ordered a large pizza and listed three toppings, as I was supposed to, and now I have this less than adequate pizza, more of it than I need or at this point want(mostly because it metaphorically leaves a bad taste in my mouth), and I’m just really disappointed in the service/attention to celebrating their customers. I’m certainly not going back. I probably wouldn’t because the pizza really isn’t very good, but I definitely won’t because of this whole anniversary special issue. The people seemed nice enough, but if I was supposed to jump through a hoop I didn’t know I had to jump through or do the discount-seeking customer routine, well, I don’t want to feel cheap – I want to feel valued. It’s not the money that I’m sad about so much as I am the continual disappointment that when businesses advertise in a way that seems to celebrate the customer, it doesn’t really seem to be about the customer. I know that’s true, but it would sure be nice to go somewhere that didn’t remind you that it’s all about the almighty dollar. If she doesn’t mention the discount, we won’t give it to her! Ka-Ching! That’s how I feel. EDIT: I want to add that I received a very apologetic and genuinely generous apology. I respect that, and I wish them and their customers well.

Summary: Capriccios is an Italian restaurant that features items such as pasta, subs, and pizza. Cost: We ordered a Large pizza(16″), half pepperoni, half cheese, and it came to about $ 14. Additionally, Unilocal currently has a Check-In deal for 10% off of an entire order. Not too shabby! Taste: When we first got into Richmond from an 8 hour car trip, we were starving and got a Papa John’s pizza because we knew what that was and associate that with mediocre pizza that is sufficient, but not great. Had we known about Capriccios at the time, we’d have ordered that for sure. The crust was nice and crispy and the cheese has a nice subtle Italian cheesey taste to it. The sauce wasn’t anything special, but didn’t taste overly salty or overwhelming. As a whole it’s not bursting with flavor, but the textures are nice and the overall pizza was undoubtedly better than chain pizza places.(At least the ones I’m familiar with.) Atmosphere: Situated in one of those shopping plaza type arrangements, the external of the building makes you feel like you’ll be walking into a tiny place. It’s actually not that tiny and in fact has a cozy and comfortable feel to it. There are some statues and decorative items in there that are probably from Italy(or are meant to look like they’re from Italy) to give it that slightly Italian feel. Service: When we arrived there were only a few people dining and the waitress was very attentive. Throughout the next half an hour, nearly all of the tables filled up and customers came for pickups, and still only the one waitress was there. She still managed to stay very friendly and took good care of her customers, but admittedly the service became quite slow. However, it’s a different kind of feeling than to be blown off by rude wait staff as she was trying her heart out and was super nice throughout the whole experience, so I can’t knock her for trying her heart out. Should have been at least 2 or 3 wait staff members to keep up with the dinner rush in my opinion. Kudos to her though. Overall: We were looking for a place with a decent pizza, and we ended up getting a great pizza. We’re still new to the Richmond scene, so I can’t really rate Capriccios against local competitors, but it sure beats the pizza sauce out of Papa John’s. I’m sure we’ll be trying some more pizza from around Richmond in the upcoming months, but I do expect to return to Capriccio’s and order another pizza.
