Carburetor Refactory

Merrill saved my classic Mercedes from the crusher. I have a 1970 MB 220 with a Stromberg 175CDT carburetor which was not functioning correctly. I tinkered with it myself, while trying to find a replacement or rebuilder who understood the complexity of this carburetor. The Stromberg 175 CDT was used by several manufacturers, but in the case of Mercedes, there are several proprietary enhancements that were made that has led to a lot of misinformation on the message boards, as well as, general fear of this set up by other carburetor rebuilders. Once I shipped off my carb, I was half expecting someone to call me and explain that they didn’t realize that this was the Stromberg/​Pierburg carb and that they wouldn’t be able to repair it. To my pleasant surprise, Merrill knew exactly what I had been dealing with and he did an excellent job of rebuilding my carb. I spoke with him on the phone and we discussed some of the erroneous information that is floating around the internet and he assured me that this carb was ready to go. I had time to reinstall it yesterday and the car fired right up. I only had to make a small adjustment to the idle screw and it was now driving better then ever. It wasn’t a cheap repair, but it was worth every penny knowing that the person who was repairing the carburetor was a true professional. Merrill will be hearing from me again as I have several other vintage classic cars with single and multi carb set ups. Thanks Merrill!

While I admit I have not yet had the Carburetor Refactory build me a carb, I found their staff very helpful. I discovered them when looking for a replacement flange gasket for my carburetor at an O’reilly’s/Kragen in El Cerrito. Paul from the Refactory also works there, and he was gracious enough to discuss the issues I was having with my Rochester 2G for a few minutes.
A few days later, still in search of a replacement gasket, I called the Carburetor Refactory on a Friday afternoon. Meredith, the lone employee there was exceedingly helpful in locating a spare gasket not in a kit, and was kind enough to offer it for free! Needless to say, this business puts customer service at the forefront. I imagine they take the same personalized service and careful attention to detail in their rebuilds.
I’m trying to rebuild my carburetor myself; but should I fail, this shop will be my first choice in having a unit professionally rebuilt.

I can’t say enough about the owner, Merrill Bright. I have an 1990 Jeep Wrangler that was not running well. I have taken the Jeep to a few different mechanics. I had the Carburetor changed twice and the Jeep was still not running properly. I spent over $ 3,000 on trying to get this Jeep to run right. I might as well have put in a new engine. A collegue referred me to The Carburetor Refactory. I explained to Merrill what was happening. He said it sounded like I needed to replace the Stepper Motor. He told me to find a good mechanic and ask them to replace the stepper motor. I couldn’t find anywone that even knew what a stepper motor was. Finally, I called him back and asked him how difficult it was and how much it costs. Since the part was not very expensive, and Merrill said replacing this part was like replacing a fuse, I thought I would give it a shot. Needless to say, it took me 30 minutes to replace the part and the Jeep is running great. I can’t thank Merrill enough for troubleshooting my issue over the phone. He pretty much fixed my car without seeing or hearing the engine. Because I really don’t know much about vehicles, he even understood me when I described the problem I was having. He is a true professional with quite a bit of experience. Thanks again!!!
