Jesse and I stopped in to Coppollas In Richmond, VA for 2nd lunch. We asked for their signature dish and guys recommended«the industrialist». The two guys at the counter were very nice and friendly. I was glad to see that the sandwich was ready pretty quickly since inparked illegally and didn’t want to get a ticket. We split the sandwich and both agreed that this is not our style of sandwich. We were pleasantly surprised by the taste. Even though I would typically not order this it was delicious. The sweet peppers where delisherous. The meat was piled on and the bread was yum. There wasnt anything I would do differently on the sandwich. It was excellent.

This is and always has been my all time favorite lunch spot for a wonderful sandwich. I love the Grilled Smoked Turkey. Wouldn’t change a thing. I have withdrawal when I go too long without !!

Every establishment i frequent for the first time, i order The reuben if its on the menu. This sandwich tells me if the place is worthy of my repeat business. I am 56 years old and i have eaten a lot of reuben sandwiches. So, let me tell you, this is a place to go to for lunch, the person working the kitchen is not a cook, it is a chef, because, each ingredient complimented the whole, the flavors were balanced, and the texture were just right for the palate, the meal was very enjoyable.

This was my first time ever going to Coppola’s, and it definitely did not disappoint. I had a co-worker take me here who is a local here in Richmond and said that this was a place that is crucial if you’ve never gone before. After arriving and looking at the great menu of all the different choices I knew I was in a great spot. I went with the grilled smoked turkey and it was amazing. The authenticity of all the sandwiches and the food items were something to be said for. I would definitely recommend this deli to anyone if you’re looking to get a sandwich from a real Italian deli. I can’t wait to go back.

The steak bomb(beef steak, with salami, onion, sweet and hot peppers, cheese, and mustard) used to be my choice every single time I came into Coppola’s. It’s delicious, fast, and I was satisfied. Until I tried the South Bronx. Delicious corned beef, sauerkraut and pastrami covered with melted imported Swiss cheese and dressing on slices of rye. It tastes almost light, which is impressive for such a heavy sandwich. I took one bite of my boyfriend’s and immediately commandeered an entire half, even though I had just eaten a full steak bomb. The South Bronx is amazing, delicious, and refreshing. I felt like I could run around… but really I took a nap instead. Trust me. The South Bronx is definitely worth sampling.

I’m from NYC where deli’s abound, and I’ve got to say that this is really close to the real deal — I got the South Bronx Club sandwich(basically a rueben + pastrami) and it was so fatty(in a good way) and sooo delicious. The corned beef and pastrami both had a nice spice and were ridiculously tender(honestly reminded me of Katz Deli in the Lower East Side). The ratio of sauerkraut was spot on(I feel like it’s easy to overkill on the kraut). And there was a nice portion of melted cheese over the sandwich filling. The dressing is sort of like the Big Mac sauce /Russian dressing and worked really well. My only gripe was that the bread kinda fell apart and I needed a fork — not too big of a deal, but still a little messier than I would have liked given that I was in work clothes. Also I think the bread had some seasoning or butter on it, which wasn’t really necessary given how flavorful the sandwich itself is. The sandwich was pretty big and because of its size, I only managed to down about half of it. They try to up-sell you to chips and a drink and honestly, unless you’re a cross fit champion or Arnold Schwarzenegger circa 1973, you will probably be full on a sandwich alone. As you might guess, avoid this place like the plague if you’re on any kind of health kick. The atmosphere is old-1980s-wood-panelling-tons-of-old-pictures-comforting-but-shoddy-deli. The dress is casual, though everyone was in collared shirts when I went(as this is a popular lunch spot for the lawyers and business folks downtown). The service is… shy(super quiet hipster chick behind the counter). All in all, good place for a delicious, rich, All-American deli lunch.

Coppola’s sandwiches are really very good. They really seem to take pride in using the best and fresh ingredients. My favorite thing about their sandwiches is the spicy pepper vinegar that they grill with, and how it soaks into the fresh bread. I usually go with the Cheese Columbo with Eggplant AND Artichoke. And a Dr. Brown’s cream soda.

340 days or so a year I don’t want a sandwich for lunch. But when one of those 25 days roll around, a big old bready edible plate with turkey, lettuce, tomato, and condiments seems like the most divine thing I could imagine. That was the general feeling I had when I decided to get on Unilocal and look for sandwiches right away. I had walked past Coppola’s a few times, but never had went in, until now. –Food: I’m not going to let my cravings lie to me. Because they explain it so well, I got a Grilled Smoked Turkey sandwich, which has«Premium smoked turkey, sauteed in onions, hot & sweet peppers, covered in Swiss cheese with lettuce, tomatoes & mayo on freshly baked roll.» It was definitely all of those things and was very good! I will say perhaps the turkey was a bit hidden behind all of the toppings, but it all the same fulfilled my turkey sandwich desires. I actually was a bit surprised at how much I enjoyed the lettuce(which is normally something I don’t find myself truly enjoying). I actually went again since then and got something crazy that I’ve never tried in the form of a South Bronx Club. It has«Lightly sauteed corned beef, sauerkraut, and pastrami covered with melted Swiss cheese and our own dressing on 3 slices of toasted rye bread.» This one was pretty good but I felt that I did my diet a great disservice. I had never had corned beef or pastrami before, but it was delicious all the same and totally worth it. I think that the pictures I posted alongside the review do the sandwich great justice. They also have Spaghetti dinners! And meats and cheeses you can buy at market price. Everything here seems to be a little bit higher grade and quality than your average place. –Cost: So, let’s come to the understanding that Coppola’s is not a Subway. It doesn’t have Subway prices. You won’t be getting a $ 5 footlong. Most of their sandwiches are served without sides or a drink and come to about $ 9.50. Is it worth it? Yeah, probably. The sandwiches are delicious and filled with quality ingredients. I will say that there is no cheaper-than-$ 8 sandwich though, so if you’re coming here for a sandwich, you’re leaving $ 10 short. –Atmosphere: The place is surprisingly large and deep inside. Super comfy and has an upscale-ish yet family owned deli sandwich type feel to it. –Service: Both times I went the people were awesome. They bring you your food and were cheery during ordering and throughout the rest of the stay. –Overall: I definitely recommend Copolla’s if you’re in the mood for a sandwich. If you’re trying to eat on a budget you might find cheaper alternatives, but the sandwiches I’ve had thus far are fantastic!

Just one word, okay two words – Steak Bomb. If you like cheese steak but are looking for more flavor and a kick the Steak Bomb is for you. The genoa salami, hot peppers, and dijon mustard will kick start your afternoon. My favorite sandwich at Coppola’s Deli. Try it, you’ll love it.

So I’ve never been to a deli before, or really gotten sandwiches for lunch unless it was Panera, Subway, or a cheesesteak from a pizza place, but I’m working downtown for the time being and with Coppola’s right by me, I figured I’d give it a shot. WOW! I have to say first that I am not a fan of pink meats generally– I stay AWAY from bologna and have never been interested in trying salami or any other Italian meats, but this place completely changed my mind. I got the Industrial– Genoa salami, mortadella, capicola ham, provolone cheese, onions, hot & sweet peppers, lettuce, tomatoes, oil & vinegar on a roll– grilled… the meat was generous, the peppers had good bite, just the right amount of oil and vinegar, the bread was soft and chewy, everything was amazing! I will be going back to try more The only thing I can say is the price is a little high– all I got was a sandwich and my total was $ 9.16. There was a ton of meat and everything tasted very fresh but I think that one thing will keep me from going here often. I’m sure food costs have gone up, I know not everyone who’s not in the industry realizes that, but for what I got I’d be more comfortable paying $ 7.16 versus 9. At least include a can of soda or a bag of chips with that. Still the sandwich was amazing!

Great little deli with creative sandwich combinations – eg Mediterranean turkey, honey turkey, etc instead of just turkey, club, roast beef. There were a lot of vegetarian sandwich options, but the salad options were a bit pitiful(two choices pre-made in takeout containers). The sandwiches were BIG. There was a lot of meat and a lot of cheese on mine. The meat was really, really high quality. However, I wasn’t impressed with the sub roll mine came on – it ended up being really hard after the sandwich was toasted, so I ended up mainly eating the sandwich toppings out of the middle(which is probably a bit healthier so no complaining there). I did like that they had a lot of bread options for the different sandwiches(e.g. some came on wheat, others on focaccia) so next time it will be easy to avoid a type of bread I don’t like. Warning: Because the sandwiches are so big, there is basically no way to eat it gracefully – so just dig in!

CONS– — $ 9 for a sandwich with nothing extra? SERIOUSLY??? I was shocked. — This is a dive so — $ 9 for a sandwich? Really? PROS– –Quick service this day(I’ve heard horror stories) –Sandwich was good but not stellar– not $ 9 worth I’ll tell you that! We used to order here for our dept. from work years ago. Wondered why no one still did and why I never hear about this place. Remember the Mediterranean as a great sandwich. They’ve changed the bread to some weird so called forcochia. The last great prices must’ve been back in 2010. No reason for me to return.

Yes, it’s a pretty nasty place, but I’m guessing the college students don’t mind. Ordered a Reuben. It was microwaved. The corned beef was fake.

Really like the huge number of choices available on the menu. All I have tried have been very good. It’s cold as hell during the winter in this place. No foyer means the wind shoots straight inside when the door is opened. The food is good, service is fast, so no complaints.

This place is so overrated. They use these pickled peppers all over their subs making it taste too tangy. I tried the Cheese Columbo because I wasn’t feeling meaty that day and all I kept thinking was WHEREARETHEVEGETABLES??? The guys who made it must have not tried the sub because it felt like you were just biting into a big block of half melted cheese. On top of that they have these sodas by a brand that no one really knows about and it was disgusting(I had the diet cream soda… maybe it’s because it was diet?). If I ever go again I would have to try a different sub but I bet they would all have that weird tangy taste to it.

Coppola’s makes the best and most creamiest tomato soup in Richmond, if not on the entire planet! So good, in fact, that I’ve gotten a group of coworkers hooked on it such that we have to go once a week to enjoy the tasty(and super affordable) tomato soup and grilled cheese combo. A large bowl of tomatoey, cheesy, creamy goodness is served with a grilled cheese sandwich and pickle on the side, all for under $ 6! I like it so much that I never stray from ordering my usual, but for any meat-eaters out there, the«Industrial» seems to be a favorite within my office. Get there at noon and you will have a short wait and your choice of seating options, but after 12:15, the line usually picks up. The cashiers and servers are friendly, and orders tend to be brought out quickly. If you’re working or visiting Downtown and need a place to grab a sandwich or some awesome soup(or both!), Coppola’s is a solid choice!

Coppola’s Deli is amazing! They definitely make a satisfying sandwich with quality ingredients in inventive ways. And it won’t cost you a fortune. I had the turkey breast with sun-dried tomatoes. It was delicious! Highly recommended for a casual lunch spot.
