This place is pretty average for lunch. I found it pretty expensive for the amount of food you get, but the gyro I got was very tasty! I was craving a gyro and that’s why I came here. The food was good I just wasn’t super impressed with the ambiance or the friendliness of the workers. If I do come back I definitely want to try the fries because they looked super tasty.

$ 13 for a gyro combo is overpriced. I also had a meatball sub combo another time. Both were tasty. Service was pretty fast. Fries could be drained more before serving. Would be 4 stars if pricing were more attractive.

Here’s the deal. Gyro w/Xtra meat was good. The lettuce and tomato had no color and the taziki sauce was mediocre. Food was aceptable. My biggest annoyance is they portion the napkins. The napkins couldn’t be cheaper and this is a restaurant where your eat with your hands? Second annoyance. Really not accepting Amex? All the places to eat around down town and you are going to restrict your clientele? If they are cutting corners where else are they cutting corners that I don’t realize?

Great Philly Cheesesteak sandwich! They definitely don’t skimp on the meat like most places do. My only complaint was the rude and loud women working behind the counter.

Gyro is good to go! Shame on me for awarding only 3 stars. This place is truly 4 stars because«Yay! I’m a fan» and I continue to go here at least 3 times a month for lunch. Good service and fast!

Good service and location but food is not good. Roast beef sub was chewy and beef was so salty and fatty I didn’t finish it. Cannot recommend.

Best steak and cheeses, gyros and French fries in all of Richmond! Family owned business which I prefer than franchises. The owners are Greek so they make a gyro piled high with meat and fresh tzaziki. The food is always consistent, fresh and hot. Service is great too. The restaurant is always clean. Quick sub shop if you need to eat fast to your lunch break downtown.

Earlier yesterday I made the journey from my office building to find a nice place that served a FILLINGLUNCH. It was a brisk day outside, very fitting for a walk might I add. During my journey, I came across Main Sub Station. It had been 5 years since I last visited this building. During that time it was called Mr. Sub and the food was delicious. How did my experience turn out this time? Read below to find out. The Good: Taste– I ordered the Philly Steak and Cheese 8 inch sub with everything on it. Roughly five minutes after I ordered it, the food was ready for me to consume. When I took my first bite of the sub, I immediately detected the taste of the mayo counteracting with the succulent meat and tomatoes(Yes I watched the food network today, it was very deep). When I got to my fifth bite, I began to detect the taste of the fresh bread which made me feel whole again. What I was eating was truly a man’s sandwich. Price/Portion Size– The price for my sandwich was a little under $ 6. I could have increased it to an 11in sub for $ 1 extra or added a combo for a few more dollars. I can honestly say that the sub was filled with meat and not with a ton of lettuce and tomatoes like some restaurants may do to increase profit margins. The 8in sub was filling enough that I did not need a side. The Not So Good– This is somewhat nitpicking, but when I envision myself eating a sub that has Philly and steak in its title, I automatically picture myself eating an authentic Philly cheese steak. This sandwich is called the steak and cheese for a reason. There is a serious lack of grease. The type of artery clogging grease found in the authentic Philly cheese steaks that give its unique flavor. The sandwich was good, but not good enough to make me think of it as a true Philly cheese steak. Overall– The food was good, price was reasonable and it did not take me long to wait on my food during the peak lunch hour. FOURSTARS.

Having not packed a lunch today and wanting to go for a short walk because of the lovely spring weather, I stumbled across Main Sub Central and decided to give it a go. The outside is very unassuming, but their advertised steak and cheese with fries lunch specials drew me in. –Food: I got an 8″ Philly cheesesteak combo with fries and a drink. Their variety of cheesesteak featured on the menu contains tomato, lettuce, and mayo, but I’m not into that as much so I just got steak, provolone, and mushrooms instead. The sub was surprisingly good! The steak was grilled on the spot and chopped into shreds as any steak sub should be. The cheese was melty and not overpowering or excessive. The mushrooms were also warm and grilled. The real standout to me was the roll though. While it wasn’t an Amoroso roll(nor did I expect it to be), it wasn’t one of those overly bready or thick rolls but rather thin and supportive of the meat inside. The sub wasn’t greasy either, which was overall nice, although a little grease sometimes provides some guilty, delicious flavor. One thing I would suggest is a little bit of salt or pepper on the steak or mushrooms as it was a touch under seasoned, but still tasted good. The fries were actually pretty good! The fries here were thin, crispy, and hot, sort of like a more crispy version of McDonald fries, but fresher tasting. They weren’t very salty or greasy either. I was a bit disappointed in their fountain drink selection. Having already consumed a sugary beverage earlier in the day, I was hoping there would be some water, light juice, or tea, but there was only about 5 choices, all soda. There wasn’t water in the fountain drink machine, but was located in a small metal pitcher, which was too strange a delivery system for me to try. Given they had 5 flavors of soda, Cherry Coke and Cherry Fanta seem a bit redundant, but Cherry Fanta is an uncommon find so I went with that. On a side note, the menu as a whole looked pretty tasty. They also have chicken phillies and gyros which are things that I could see myself trying in the future. –Cost: The combo I had for lunch was $ 9. Pretty fair in my opinion, and I found myself pretty full by the end. –Atmosphere: The interior is pretty spacious and fairly comfortable if not a little plain. The shop itself is located on the Shockoe Slip near the business area, which is nice. –Service: No qualms with the service. Nothing spectacular, but I didn’t try to strike up any conversation and just paid for and ordered my food. –Overall: Main Sub Central is close enough to my work and offers a menu that differs than the usual burgers or chicken in my immediate vicinity. While not the best sub I’ve had in my life, it is in my opinion better than a typical Subway sub, and overall I rather enjoyed my meal. I’m sure I’ll be back to try the rest of their menu as well as get more steak and cheeses.

I have stopped in a couple times for lunch, and have always left happy and satisfied! The salads are great and the subs are loaded with fresh meat. The French fries are delicious too! I would highly recommend it

I stopped by Sub Central for a quick lunch. I ordered a steak & cheese sub with fries. The steak & cheese sub was tasty. The fries came out hot and crispy .Sub Central has a variety of hot and cold subs on the menu. The service was fast. The prices were reasonable. Parking can be a hassle during working hours. You may find some hourly parking in front of the restaurant. Sub Central doesn’t stay open late(Some restaurants close early in the working district). Be sure to check the hours. Sub Central is a solid choice for a sub in Shokoe Bottom.
