This was my first time in this coffee shop it was a Pleasant treat. I had the half soup and half salad which was just enough. I highly recommend the chai tea milkshake it was just the amount of sweet you want. The staff was friendly and I would definitely go back soon!

Went to this establishment with my fiancé, it will be our last time there. Girl behind the counter was very rude, especially when I tried to purchase five items on top of our three drinks. It was as if we had committed a sin having her make one minute of effort. Save your money people, this place is not worth your money.

Maybe I missed something I ordered a turkey club panini and took a bite. I was immediately turned way off by the turkey lunch meat Not even sliced turkey. It looks like bologna and has no taste. Boo!

Daily Grind is clearly a franchise you can purchase, and therefore deceived me that it’s a true coffee shop. This place lacks all personality, character, and joy a good coffee shop can produce. You aren’t greeted when you walk in. The staff appears to hate their jobs. The atmosphere is cookie cutter. As for the coffee, the lattes are just a grade below Starbucks which I consider average. The big issue is there are no grinders, nobody is pulling shots, and everything appears to be fully automated. It took less than 45 seconds to hand me a large flavored latte. Great if I’m in a hurry, but sad if I thought I was getting a hand crafted latte. This is the only apparent coffee shop in Short Pump, but it’s not for me.

On our way to the beach, we stopped at the Short Pump exit for some breakfast. We saw a panera so pulled over. Panera looks busy and we saw this little place with no cars in front. Being in a bit if a hurry, we gave it a try. My husband had an egg, bacon an cheese on a flat bread, my older daughter and I got a croissant with cheese and tomatoes. My younger daughter got a chocolate croissant. We got back in the car and devoured out food. It was delicious! Daily Grind also has a comfy feel. I could sit for hours sipping tea and working on a laptop. There were also beautiful photos from Cuba taken by a local artist.

Watered down coffee! Nice place, limited food but good coffee is the whole point of going to a coffee shop!

Best coffee place in the west end. Coffee is always fresh and food is excellent. Try the coco mocha

I would definitely suggest this venue to others, it’s small and great décor and comfy interior, but it’s just another Panera and Starbucks to me, with less items on the menu. Their Club sandwich was wonderful, love the presentation. Wish Panera and Starbucks weren’t in basically the same plaza though…

This place is awesome! Not only is the atmosphere great, but they have amazing coffee. Haven’t had any of the food offerings(though they look tasty) but the Cookies & Cream Blendz is my favorite. My wife gets the Cocomocha which she thoroughly enjoys too.

Long story short, I go here for the location(West End/Short Pump). Probably better coffee downtown/Carytown, but it’s convenient to work. After getting spoiled by West coast coffee on a recent trip to Washington/Oregon, I’ve been hitting the local coffee shops in RVA as often as I can. Sadly, there’s not much(besides $tarbuck$ or DD) in the West End of Richmond/Glen Allen/Short Pump. I can rarely get downtown or to Carytown for the local/small shops, so I hit locally-owned Daily Grind. And it’s better than Starbucks– not great but ok. Ok service. Location is in a strip mall across from Short Pump mall, but it’s nice inside. Not a hipster modern place but if you want that, go to the fan. Clientele is mostly professionals or some college kids — lots of them work from the shop all day. Nice and quiet. Ok breakfast — egg/bacon croissant, muffins and sweets. Little overpriced on food so I try to stick with coffee only. Coffee is ok –I usually do a café mocha or flavored coffee, standard fare. I’ll go again, for sure. To me it’s better than Starbucks but not the best coffee in Richmond.

The music alone ranks this place up there on my list. Always played at the perfect volume level, it doesn’t interfere with my concentration when I’m focusing on work and the acoustics reinforce a calm, peaceful atmosphere. Not to mention, the hot chocolate’s quite good and it’s certainly nice to find a locally owned coffee joint in the midst of big box, chain ridden Short Pump. I tried a bran muffin today and it was the best muffin I’ve had in a very long time. It tasted extremely fresh, almost as if it was right out of the oven, with a warm, soft center and a slight crunch to the top. Seriously, muffin magnificence. And it was just the right size, too — not too large to feel overindulgent and not too small to be left hungry. If you’re into muffins, try this one. But note that it wasn’t one of the larger muffins on the top shelf wrapped in paper(those looked fancier); this one was on a plate on the bottom shelf along with others that looked more homemade. If you’re out at Short Pump and need a break from the mall rats, pop into this place for a sip or a bite.

The Daily Grind Coffee Shop and Café is local and family owned. It is open early for breakfast and lunch. The atmosphere is charming, The coffee is fair trade and comes from a local roaster. The food is excellent, fresh and prepared when ordered. Pastries and baked goods are also baked on the premises. The Grind is one of those exceptional places where regulars quickly become friends. The work on the walls is by local artists, the books for sale by local authors – one author has written two books in the shop – and concerts by local musicians on selected nights. It is not unusual to see them in the Grind nursing a cappuccino or latte. It can make for lively conversation. There is a well stocked take-one-leave-one library. The shop is also open for after-hours discussion groups. Many are well-worth attending. In short, this is an exceptional and special place.

Stopped in for a quick breakfast sandwich. They serve lunch and breakfast and of course coffee shop drinks. Free WiFi, a book lending library, quiet and comfortable. Service was great and my croissant was outstanding. I did not try the coffee. Will come back and I recommend others try it out also.

Sleep deprived and already overcaffeinated, I stumbled into here between moving from one office to the other. The café has a cozy atmosphere, nice baristas, and free wifi! I ordered an ice coffee and settled in at the window bar for about an hour. No one bothered me and I was able to be very productive since it was fairly quiet. The coffee was pretty good, not over-roasted or bitter, much better than going to Starbucks in my opinion. I got another ice coffee to go and they only charged me the $ 1 refill fee since I said they could reuse the plastic cup I was given earlier! The food looked and smelled really good, maybe next time…

Great coffee, very friendly staff. I just feel like I’m at a friend’s house when I stop in. I’ve liked every kind of coffee that I’ve had here. They don’t over-roast the beans like some other coffee establishments. I usually get an egg & cheese on a croissant for breakfast which is outstanding. I’ve also had pastries and panninis — all are very good and fresh.

Cozy atmosphere, nicest folks, local biz, free WiFi, why would you go anywhere else? Ordered a pb&j(off the kids menu) and it was a good sized sandwich on multigrain bread with the crust cut off! I love that they did that, it made my heart happy :) Plenty of seating, great coffee, and seriously super nice people. You know the people you encounter who you know are genuinely nice versus fake nice? These folks are it!

I drive this place almost daily but never came in until now. I ordered a bacon, egg & cheese sandwich which comes on a grilled flatbread and a hot creamy caramel espresso. The coffee was unbelievable. It was so perfect I almost went back and got another one an hour later but resisted, my body just can’t handle that much caffeine. The sandwich was good too and the girl who took my order and made my coffee was very sweet. The inside is nice and cozy. There is a nice warm fireplace with chairs around it as well as a few tables. They display local art for sale and have a bookcase full of books you can borrow, take one and leave one. I didn’t have much time to check out the rest of the menu but I’ll definitely be back for a caffeine fix and the occasional breakfast sandwich.

I stopped by the Daily Grind because I picked up a Groupon(or was it LivingSocial?) and I meant to try their coffees since they’re a coffee place, but I came during lunch and well, I was hungry! They had a good looking panini menu so I picked up the Roast Beef & Cheddar and my sister got the Marinated Chicken panini. Both were very good. They use a flatbread type bread for it… different…and their deli chips were delicious, not too salty. The paninis were about $ 8 each which wasn’t too bad. They had a few cupcakes on display and they looked so delicious(plus I’m a cupcake fanatic) so I had to have one! They charged $ 3/cupcake though and they were just the regular, standard cupcakes. I thought this was too much since cupcakeries charge about $ 2.75/cupcake and they’re bigger. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t worth the $ 3 either. I should mention that I got the Red Velvet cupcake… and found out it had a chocolate filling. It was very tasty, just not worth the $ 3 to me. As for the setting, it’s very cozy and there’s a bunch of original art on the wall that you can buy and apparently there’s live music regularly. The girl at the register was very nice and helpful as were were ordering.

After driving by this place a bunch of times, I decided to stop in this afternoon for an iced coffee… and I was pleasantly surprised to find that it’s a real, old-fashioned coffee shop– like Starbucks should be but isn’t anymore! The Daily Grind has free wifi, cozy tables and a fireplace. They also have art from local artists on the walls– I recognized some of the art from the South of the James market! And, the sign says they have live music on Wed nights… and they have the give a book, read a book shelves so if you find yourself there with nothing to read, they have a selection of books to help you spend your time! However, the reason I will be going back has to do with their food and beverage choices. 1. They have ice cream! And the flavors are unique– I got a banana caramel nut flavor and it had real pecan halves, big thick swirls of caramel and smashed banana in it… it was awesome. It reminded me of going to Coldstone… 2. They have a ton of sugar free syrup flavors. Starbucks only carries 4 or 5, but the woman helping me at the counter rattled off at least 10. Some of the more interesting choices included raspberry, irish crème(which I had– it was lovely), and chocolate. 3. Their iced latte was just as good as Starbucks… usually I find coffee places to have awful iced drinks… but this one was really good! The one thing that really sticks out for me though about The Daily Grind is it’s location. I don’t often find myself going up to Short Pump to go to a coffee shop, and this is one of those places that would be treasured in a neighborhood closer to the city. As it stands, when I was there there were two teenagers texting/typing/talking all at once at a table in the center of the room, and it definitely reminded me that the crowd here will be very upper-class suburban… I like my fellow coffee drinkers to be a little more tortured… or at least more like the everyday people I hang out with :)
