I’ve never had anything but good service and decent food here. It’s small, but that’s our Richmond way. There’s a little patio out back for nice weather(or for you smokers in the winter). The tacos are always my favorite, and because you can buy them as singles, you never have to pick tacos OR(delicious nachos)(cheesy quesadillas). Add a margarita or a really really cold beer and try to imagine how a meal in Richmond could be better?

I want soooo badly to be a hater on hipster Mexican food but it’s sooooo good! Even the margaritas are pretty delicious. Had to five it 5 stars.

I really enjoyed this nook in Carytown Richmond. I liked the prices for the amount and quality of food. The pulled chicken taco was tender and juicy. In fact all of the tacos we ordered were awesome. My boyfriend and I were told to check this place out and we were not disappointed. If I ever make it back to Carytown, I am hitting Don’t Look Back up again!

I usually don’t post on here, and I don’t really like Mexican food all that much, so take this for what it’s worth but the chicken burrito was probably the best I’ve ever had. No hyperbole, one of the best I’ve ever had.

Fun, attentive staff. Decent happy hour deals. But that’s okay because the prices on everything are low. My girlfriend and I will usually eat until stuffed for around 20 bucks(drinks not included) and it’s always delicious. Kitchen is lightning fast. They have a decent patio area too. Wanna eat well on a budget? This is your spot.

WOW, 6 starts if I could. The food and the tequila infused margarita were off the charts. Ok, I’m not one to go off about food, but this place is AMAZING. If you visit Richmond, you must go to Don’t Look Back in Carytown. Best tacos we have had ever, and outta this world margaritas with specially-infused tequilas. I will come back to Richmond just to come here. It’s a hole in the wall that no site said much about. So glad we stopped in

Well to start off we had stitty service. The ginger beard dude was rude. Then I felt that I had to be a hipster to be here. If it wasn’t for the mildly shaven black hair bartender we wouldn’t of even tipped. The ginger was so rude that he even wouldn’t given us more chips because we had asked for our tab. I wouldn’t recommend this place especially if the leprechaun is working. You would think his service would make up for his height but it didn’t. Still a dill. Want a good place to visit then go elsewhere. You shouldn’t have to fit in to eat.

We absolutely love this place. The service is great and the tacos are even better. We come here every chance we are able too.

My boyfriend and I were exploring Richmond for the day and stumbled upon this hipster taco joint. I like ordering things a la carte style so we both got 3 tacos served traditional style. We ordered the chorizo, chicken, cod, and pork. All were up to my taco standard. For an extra hot kick, try the green sauce but it’s not for a spicy novice. The chips and salsa were an extra cost which I was sort of bummed about but the these chips were definitely worth the extra bucks! There were warm and fresh and the perfect amount or crunch without being too oily like most home cooked chips! The salsa was also A+ in my book. The one downside of my meal was the happy hour margarita… I just couldn’t finish it. I asked for salt on the rim and got salt all in my drink. The drink was sticky sweet and then salty in some spots. It was very strange and inconsistent. I probably won’t be back due to all the other colorful eateries in Carytown but I wouldn’t mind coming back for a beer and tortilla chips.

My friends and I have been coming here for years, and we always have a good time! They have a good happy hour, delicious tacos, and awesome margaritas made with their fresh sour mix. What’s not to love? They have a cool little patio out back, which is perfect for warmer weather. Sometimes the service can be a little hit or miss, but today it was great. All of the staff was friendly and professional. Our server was Jamie and he was great.

Great find! Frito pie… That’s all you need to know It’s fantastic and super fun! It’s served in the bag and the bag is in a basket, so eating it is a little difficult. But. So. Very. Worth. It! My sister said the Tacos are great. Nachos sounded terrific, too. It’s a cute little place with a bit if a masculine vibe. All male staff while I was there, sounds like that’s typical. Our waiter was great. If you like Mexican, give it a try!

My mom and I were in the area and stumbled across this place. I ordered a fish taco and the shrimp taco and both were phenomenal. I wish this was closer to home! We will be going back the next time we are in Richmond.

I love coming here during happy hour for tacos and margaritas. The margaritas are usually excellent, although I have been here once or twice when they were off. The guacamole is the best I have ever had– I don’t know what the put in it but the flavor is amazing. The tacos are of course, the star of the show. i always order one carnitas and one shredded beef. You can choose between corn or flour tortillas, and traditional or gringa(lettuce, tomato, cheese) style toppings. I am a true gringa and order flour tortillas and gringa toppings, but I appreciate that they have more traditional options. At $ 3 a taco(or 3 for $ 8 during happy hour), you can easily get stuffed for under $ 10. Service here is hit or miss. I have had generally good experiences, but it can be slow. The place is small, but during the warm weather there is a patio in the back.

This place reminds me of a college hangout … reliably good food, good prices, comfortable vibe, and great old school music. When you’re in C’town shopping or just hanging out it’s a great spot, nothing pretentious or precious(hello Daily). Tacos are good, especially fish and carnitas and service is always pleasant and brisk.

Great for drinks as well as food! One of my favorite spots to grab drinks, they have a great beer selection, and the music selection is on point. Very affordable pricing. Their tacos are superior no matter which way you go, and the nachos are massive, like a chip volcano erupting in cheese, beans, lettuce, sour cream and salsa. The frito pie is a must try!!! They have vegetarian options that arnt to bad either from what I hear. The service is excellent it never takes to long to get your drink or your food and they are pretty busy the majority of the time. The atmosphere is comfortable and casual, they have a couch in the back for slightly bigger groups that is super comfy and homey. They have a pretty spacious back patio that has 3 shaded picnic tables.

Yet again, I am underwhelmed by another Carytown«staple.» First off, the name, Don’t Look Back, I’m sure has some great inside story history behind it, but as an unaware customer, it really is just a terrible name. Not that a name will keep me out of your doors, but it just doesn’t really vibe well or sound nice to say. The interior is decent. Pretty narrow restaurant with limited seating and an average looking bar. My party of four wasn’t able to find a table, so the hostess kindly offered us a seat in their«lounge.» We took the table, which was actually just a couch and a coffee table. No big deal, but I’m not sure why they would even bother putting that there. Just add more tables instead of putting a completely out-of-place couch in the middle of cramped taco bar. We all ordered margaritas, and I was really excited because they said the margaritas were made from fresh squeezed lime juice, which I love. When I got the margarita, I was entirely disappointed. First, it tasted extremely bland, the salt on the rim had entirely dissipated by the time it got to me, and I couldn’t taste any tequila whatsoever. It tasted like old lime juice with nothing else. The food was good, but the menu offered nothing exciting at all. Your basic Mexican staples, and some tacos that I actually thought were a bit overpriced. I ordered a steak quesadilla, and it was good and really, really cheesy. I love cheese, so that’s fine, but I just felt like I was eating a Mexican grilled cheese. The rest of my party said that the tacos were decent, but nothing better than any other tacos they’ve had before. Your basic proteins and toppings, but nothing special to mention in a review. The best part of the meal was actually the chips and salsa, but they make you pay for those, which I didn’t really get. I’m not a cheapskate, and they weren’t that expensive, but I just assumed I would get complimentary chips with the average food. The service was fine. Nothing too memorable(in fact I entirely forgot who was serving our table). I don’t remember anything negative about service, so I’ll just leave it at that. Three stars fits for this place. Decent food and decent service, but nothing that will make me ever want to come back again. Worth checking out for a beer and some tacos, but unfortunately it sort of blended in with the rest of the Carytown mediocre food scene.

Unfortunately, I’ve had too many underwhelming tacos in my life. As a result, I was hesitant when my friend decided to get tacos while we were in town. However, it was not disappointing– I’m glad we took a chance! There’s not a wide range of tacos, but the quality made up for that. The shredded beef & carnitas tacos with traditional toppings were delicious. I was impressed with the fact that I could taste the different components of the tacos and not a bland mess. My friend ordered the nachos– which was substantial & tasty! In addition, I thought the prices were very reasonable. The restaurant has a nice & cozy atmosphere. There is enough room to accommodate smaller groups of people. We went around 2:30PM& didn’t have to wait very long for our food to arrive. This place renewed my faith in taco joints.

I’ve been here a couple times and the first was better than the second. Service wasn’t great. The server was nice but we had to flag him down to place our order… I think he forgot about us. You have to pay for chips and salsa, which we did unfortunately. The chips were rock hard and the salsa is absolutely tasteless. I appreciate the infused tequila but the last time I order an infused strawberry margarita and the hint of strawberry was incredibly faint. The drink tasted like I was eating a lime. The quesodilla is good, but it would have been nice to have decent salsa to dip it in. Sidenote…this place is super hipster. It definitely fits right in on Cary St. It just isn’t authentic Mexican food in the slightest if you ask me.

Easily my favorite taco joint in the city. It’s a small space, and it is usually pretty packed during dinner hours and on weekends, but it is definitely worth the wait. Grab yourself a margarita and enjoy the chips and salsa while dreaming up your ideal taco. I’m not kidding. This is one of those«build your own» taco places, where they list the filling and topping options and you choose what you want. I’ve tried about a million different combinations here, and they have all been amazing. Carnitas, black beans, and chicken are consistently tasty. Their tofu can be a little hit-or-miss, but it’s still very good. Two tacos are always enough for me, especially since I will have stuffed myself with chips and salsa before I even ordered my meal.

My uncle and I came here for Nacho Taco week and had to wait ~20 minutes for a table, which we didn’t mind, but if you hate waiting, then I wouldn’t go here. The Nacho Taco Week deal is $ 5 for two tacos, which isn’t that much cheaper than Don’t Look Back’s regular price of $ 3 a taco, but the Nacho Taco Week deal does include two tacos not included on the regular menu: the Calabacitas Taco and Habañero ground beef taco. I wanted to go here because it was one of the few restaurants participating in Nacho Taco week that offered a vegetarian option, but quite frankly, I was disappointed in my calabacitas tacos. There wasn’t enough taco filling and flavor to make me like the taco and go «Wow! I love this taco!» Instead it just made me go,“It’s just squash and zucchini and not enough of it.“ I think I would have enjoyed one of the normal vegetarian options on the menu, but I didn’t think about ordering one before it was too late. Compared to other vegetarian tacos I’ve had, the flavors of this one was definitely more traditional because of the complimentary cilantro, red onion, and lime(alternatively, you can get cheese, lettuce, sour cream & salsa on your taco), but the main ingredients were lacking, playing second fiddle to the corn tortilla and aforementioned traditional flavors. The other Nacho Taco Week taco, the Habañero ground beef taco, was dry and too spicy for my uncle’s liking, but his friend who tried it the night before said it wasn’t dry then. My uncle also had the chicken skin tacos, which he’s had before and really enjoyed. This was the first time he’s been back that they’ve had them again so of course he got them and enjoyed them again. Because of these supposedly delicious chicken skin tacos(that I can’t eat because I’m a vegetarian), I give Don’t Look back three instead of two stars.
