Now this is what I’m talking about! These donuts are served hot and fresh, with lots of choices for frosting and toppings! Can’t say I’ve had a better donut anywhere!

Not too impressed. Overly greasy donuts and very dense. Flavors don’t stand out for me either.

After months of all my co-workers and friends telling me how amazing Duck Donuts is, I decided to finally stop by on Saturday morning. They were packed, sadly, I don’t think it was a sign of how good they are, just a sign as to how poorly staffed they are. The place was trashed, the tables and the floors were covered in napkins and crumbs. The line was confusing, not much of a flow to the store. When it was finally my turn to order the cashier apologized for the wait and said laughingly that they are lucky she didn’t walk out, classy! She rushed me threw my order and was just kind of rude. I ordered a coffee and a dozen donuts. Coffee is self-serve which would have been nice if they had any Brewed. After waiting 15 minutes to order I had to wait another 20 minutes for my donuts I was still waiting for them to brew more coffee! After another 5 minutes I decided to just leave and grab a Starbucks. Sadly I was lied to by Richmond yet again! After all of that when I got home I was at least hoping the donuts would be good but they were soggy with greasy and fell apart when I bit into them and they forgot my maple bacon donut, the only reason I went there. Between the wait, the nasty dirty tables, rude cashier, wrong order and greasy donuts I will would say stay away Richmond.

I’m a huge fan of gourmet or unique donuts even though donuts overall rank pretty low on my list of delightful, tasty treats. A friend recommended Duck donuts to me after hearing me rave about sugar shack’s bacon maple donut. Thankfully i followed through with that recommendation because i was not disappointed by duck donut. I ordered a French toast donut which was delicious! I liked that they heated the donut up before serving it and that the donut tasted like funnel cake. Sugar shack still ranks #1 for me based on my donut preferences, but duck donut is a close second.

Quick, fast, and delicious! If you haven’t had Duck Donuts before, it’s definitely worth a try. This location has lived up to the standard of its other chains, and the donuts I’ve gotten here are always served fresh and hot. They have specials every day of the week and it’s all super sweet. Once you eat one, it’ll take a lot of self-control to not get another dozen to take home :)

Duck Donuts has without a doubt, THEBESTDONUTSINALLOFRICHMOND! Everything is fresh and made to order. With the exception of a small tabletop display case, that has one of every donut, you will not find any other pre-made donuts in this store. I have no idea why people go crazy over Sugar Shack because their donuts are nowhere near as fresh since they make dozens at a time, sit them in a huuuuge display case, and hope someone buys them… Since everything at Duck Donuts is made to order, they drop the dough in the grease right in front of you and when you receive the finished product, it’s a little crunchy on the outside and warm/moist on the inside. They also have a decent amount of crazy donuts such as the almighty bacon maple donut, French toast donut, Almond Joy, etc. If that’s not enough, you can turn any donut into a donut sundae! And they also have pretty good coffee. And last, but not least, the staff is always quick and friendly. So if you like donuts, this place is an absolute must try!

Super pleased I finally visited this place for a donut! I always thought I didn’t pick sides in the great cake vs. yeast debate but this place may have just pushed me over the edge! I ordered two donuts with chocolate frosting and rainbow sprinkles(you pick your glaze/frosting and topping!) and a cup of coffee. The guy who took my order invited my kid to pick out a rubber duck from a from a pile of ducks(neat surprise!), we paid, and had our freshly dipped donuts handed to us. The donut was warm on the inside and crispy on the outside and the frosting and sprinkles were just right! Didn’t leave that filmy sitch in your mouth like many cake donuts do! The coffee was a little less than exciting(bold roast was weak) but not enough to drop it a star, will give it another chance. I will def be back and look forward to trying all the combos!

The. Best. Donuts. Period. Seriously…unless you’re into the«deep fried air» donuts from Krispy Kreme, this is the place to get your fix. These are the real deal cake donuts with a nice, thin crust that I grew up on in Michigan, where the apple orchards open up in the fall with cider, donuts, pies and other nourishing things. They are FRESH… not«made to order», so don’t get your tits in an uproar if your order is filled from the hopper; they’ve only been there a little while, believe me. This place is always crowded, but the wait is worth it. They offer I dunno, like 8 or so glazes and about as many toppings. And if you need a 15-foot case filled with 50 different varieties that were made last night, you should be going to Food Lion for your donuts. Do yourself a favor and try the maple glaze with bacon bits. I love these donuts like a back-alley hooker loves crack.

For the past 10 years my family goes to Duck, OBX for vacation and duck donuts. The only donuts that I like to eat. Then they opened a location in Virginia beach and I was in heaven, then I find I have to move to Richmond for work… And what do I happen across here??? Duck Donuts!!! Best donuts in he history of the world!!!

The donuts are more cakey, less airy. That a personal preference. The flavor was good and it’s nice to have them fresh. There is a large variety of flavor options including bacon donuts. The donut I initially had was covered in such a thick layer of sugar it completely overwhelmed the donut itself. Waaaaay too much. I did try s second donut that was plain or just sugared. Much better on my taste buds. You get more of the flavor of the donut coming through.

Another one of these crazy little donut shops :) They make everything for you while you wait, so you know everything is fresh and good. You get to pick out what you want in toppings and they have a nice little list of suggestions for you to help out. I picked out a pack to take into the office with me and they were a hit :)

So I decided to update my review finally! I have been to Duck Donuts twice since my first visit. The service was my MAIN gripe on my FIRST review. But, I will say that the service has greatly improved! The second time I went, I remember no-one giving instructions on the process of ordering and where to go etc(not an issue for me bc I have been before-but for new patrons-it would be helpful to have someone say how the process goes-but the employees did have a smile on their face). The third time-the staff was super nice and professional. The donuts: I like them. I still think the flavor options are mundane and not much fun to make your own donut when it’s the same flavors each time-they need more variety. The donuts themselves have always been good. One of the big things that caught me with duck donuts was that the donuts were made fresh to order in my presence-however on my last visit I was a little confused because there were 2 trays with pre-made plain donuts sitting on them under the warmer and that was where my donut order was pulled from-I thought the purpose was to get a fresh hot donut made to order-but I could have the concept wrong. Now don’t get me wrong, the donut was still warm-just not freshly made. Overall, I still think its a great place to stop and try at least once. The staff has seemingly done a 180 with being more courteous and attentive to customers and that was my biggest issue on my first review –so I tip my hat to management for ensuring the staff is good. I will go back here and there –and I would take friends/family that have never experienced duck donuts –but for me to frequent them, they would have to get more variety of toppings and flavors.

I like them and like the made to order concept. My kids prefer Sugar Shack because they find Duck Donuts greasy. I probably agree with them. However, worth going if you have not. Maybe Duck Donuts will be your favorite instead!

Holy Moly!!! I actually had no intentions of going in in her until I was coerced by my friend. I’m glad I went. It was delicious! The donuts are made as you order. I would literally fight someone for one of those cinnamon sugar donuts… it was that good. I threw caution to the wind and also ordered a maple donut for myself. Now, I will say that they got the order wrong and gave me a maple bacon donut, but they were so nice about it that they just gave me a regular maple donut for free. It was fabulous. I gave the maple bacon donut to my boyfriend who was skeptical at first, but then quickly devoured it. Now I have to go back… especially since on the way out I say the poster for the donut sundae… seriously…how can I not try that…

There is a lot to be said for a fresh-fried doughnut with your choice of topping, still warm and tasty. The trouble I have with Duck is that there is not a lot to be said the second time around. The product is very good and I was pleased with what I got, but there is a distinct lack of variety and nothing that really pulls at me to come back and try something else. Watching the doughnut machine is awesome, though.

Sugar overload, why do I do this to myself everytime. As someone who has an unhealthy obsession with donuts, I don’t know why but everytime I come to Richmond, I have to go to sugarshack, and duck donuts. Some people are serious about their donut allegiance, whereas I take a more diplomatic stance, I can indulge in both sugarshack and duck donuts for different reasons. How can anyone hate on a donut that is freshly made, and dipped right in front of your face/nose/body?! Fresh donuts like these make you feel like you’re the King of the World. My only tiny gripe is that I wish they had more icings/topping selections. However you just can’t go wrong with a glazed donut with bacon. That my friends is my new go-to. I also love the lemon icing, strawberry icing, all topped with bacon. Or sometimes you wanna be old school and just throw some rainbow sprinkles. Have it your way! Bc duck donuts makes it happen. =)

This donut place is absolutely delicious! The flavors are pronounced and has great texture. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was because I find the donuts to be a little inconsistent– I sometimes get donuts that have more crunch than the others. I wish they consistently made the donuts crunchy because it’s definitely unique. These donuts are cake-like but less dense while sugar shack donuts are yeast battered.

This Duck Donuts location does not hold a candle to the original. However, it is a solid donut place in RVA. The upside– yummy donuts with great toppings. The downside– although it is nice that they are made to order, it takes forever to get through the ordering line and then to actually get the donuts because people can never decide what they want. The donuts are solid– tasty and relatively cheap– but they don’t have nearly as many options as the original locations in the Outer Banks. There was also a minor mishap with the glaze soaking through the box we got and getting all over my pants– not cool, Duck Donnuts, not cool.

I had heard great things about Duck Donuts so we decided to give it a try on a lazy Saturday morning. They serve hot fresh donuts that you pick your own toppings and watch them make to order. It was busy on this Saturday but we still managed to find a seat to figure out our order and they didn’t take long at all to make them. My daughter and I even tried samples while we waited. We got an assortment and the glazes were really good but really sweet. The donuts were really fresh and fluffy. Next time I’ll probably try just the basic cinnamon and sugar, glazed, or powdered. The chocolate and peanut butter glazes were good but a little too sweet for me. I couldn’t finish eating the whole donut. I got my husband the maple bacon donut which wa really yummy! My daughters loved the rainbow spinkles! This is a great addition to the growing options at Willow Lawn!

Wow, just wow! People who vaca in OBX rave about Duck Donuts, but I always thought how much better could they really be? Now I know. Duck donuts are the cake variety and choose your own toppings. Meaning, when you order you pick out the glaze/icing/toppings/etc. Then they are made fresh… this means hot and yummy! The donuts have a slight crispy fried outside and a soft cakey inside. They are heavier than Krispy Kreme, Sugar Shack, and other yeast donuts… this did slow me down on how many I could eat. But perhaps this is a good thing:) There isn’t a lot of inside seating, so I treat this more like a take out place. Note, they do also sell coffee, sodas, etc. They also offer samples while you wait for your sugary goodness to be prepared. I have found a new fave sweet spot for a sugar fix. Cheers!
