This play is horrible, if you like raw chicken and bad service they will be glad to rip you off.

My wife and I have returned many times since our initial visit. It is quite a friendly place and we always feel welcome. Tonight we both enjoyed a superbly delicious flat iron steak with red wine gravy. Sides were very good(green beans, rice, etc.) and my corn chowder was delicious. But the steaks were the standout. Cooked perfectly, great cut of meat, very moist, tender and flavorful. We had an espresso cake dessert that was also perfectly delicious and the coffee was very good. Our waitress was very nice and perfect throughout(attentive, but not intrusive) and the evening was a true delight. We both really love this place and it has become one of our favorite«go to» spots. All in all a wonderful meal and a delightful evening. This hidden gem is well worth a visit! — Original review 4 stars — We were here on a Friday early for the first time. Not quite sure what to expect, but I had driven by this place many times and often wondered about it. Though we were quite early for dinner, we were greeted warmly and told to take any table we liked. The owner and Executive Chef came over to chat, answer our questions, and share some recommendations. A very nice fellow, I felt right at home with the comfortable, local vibe — very laid back and friendly and no damn TV or loud music! Bonus points right there to start! There was no rush, we ordered some drafts and studied the menu. Soon he returned with ice cold drafts(yeah!) to tell us about the specials, The vanilla Porter was quite good. Later the waitress brought out the written list and menus. She was very nice and equally friendly. We started off with the calamari appetizer with honey garlic chili sauce — the huge portion of calamari was delicious and the sauce had a mild kick and intriguing flavor. We both thought it among the best we have had in Richmond. My companion ordered the salmon with ginger and cranberry compote special with house salad and sides, I had a «black and blue» flat iron steak special with blue cheese, fried onions, with the vegetable medley and cheese grits. The salmon was delicious, the salad was very good, and the sides were all good, though we both felt the cheese grits were a bit bland. My steak was delicious, and all the food was piping hot when served. I felt the presentation was a bit lacking, but the food was delicious and that’s the primary thing. And I’m fine with no pretensions, just good food. Afterwards, we had a Limoncello cake dessert that was very tasty and I had coffee which was good and fresh. A nice end to our evening. The overall ambiance was quite warm and inviting. All the people we saw seemed to be enjoying themselves. We were very pleased with our food and thought the prices quite reasonable for the quality. There were many things on the menu we want to go back and try. They had a very good selection of salads, sandwiches, BBQ, and many seafood items. We both had a wonderful time and look forward to our return. Nice place. Exactly the kind of place I love to find… a bit out of the way, quiet, friendly, with good food and good vibes in equal measure.

Really wanted to like this homey little hideaway but as the two stars indicate, meh. Décor is cheap looking and hard-edged with a black and white color scheme, not that I would imagine the owners care all that much about the décor. The food is somewhat pricey and hardly worth the money. We were there for lunch and had the veggie wrap(basically bread, lettuce, onion, and a schmear of too-spicy hummus) and crab cake(none too fresh-tasting crab that was predictably shredded with lots of filler). The accompanying cole slaw was the best thing about the meal. A mountain of potato chips filled the remainder of the plate. Service was fine although it got a bit weird when I asked if we could split the check and the waitress brought over a piece of paper with a figure written on it, nothing official, just a number handwritten on a paper and said that’s what we each owed. Kinda weird. No reason to ever go back.

Sunday Brunch An excellent Sunday Brunch! Ranks as one of the best in Northside/Lakeside for brunch. Many wonderful entrees along with basics. I had the Humpty Dumpty Eggs… potatoes topped with fried eggs and sausage gravy. The sausage gravy was awesome, if only the potatoes were cut smaller!!! First class service and very reasonably priced.

Went for dinner tonight. I had the burger with bacon, avocado and cheese. Wife had the prime rib sandwich. They were great. Burger was so thick had trouble eating it. It was cooked just as I asked medium and was full of flavor. Sweet potato fries were also great. Wife’s salad was a piece of art the way it was presented. Prime rib was piled high and also cooked to perfection. Service was also well above most places we dine. We will be returning.

The Cajun grilled tuna steak on bed of salad with balsamic dressing is as good as anywhere. Dressing is homemade and the tuna was a supreme quality. Great discovery.

Wow I was so freaking wrong about this place. First of all I’ve been there 3 times since my first review, and the food has only gotten better. We did Brunch there and I got something to the effect of a Reuben Benedict. Corned beef swiss, thousand island and eggs. So. Good. Jagger went for seared tuna and eggs, a strange but wonderful combo. Next time I got fried lake trout and eggs, and Jag for the crab cake bennie. Both were rockstar. We just got back from dinner there, and I’m not kidding, I was able to enjoy what was in all seriousness maybe the best fried chicken I have ever eaten, and Jagger got a really nice salad with locks and dried dates. Outstanding. My advice? Make sure you take a look of the specials list when you go, I have not had a special that was not spectacular yet.

Would have never found this place unless suggested by someone. Sorry to say not impressed. The building and décor is ok but food was not to rave about. And the prices they are charging for the meals we had were ridiculous. The shrimp and grits were bland. My wife’s chicken cordon blue included a small pounded out piece of chicken and was nothing to rave about. Also her meals presentation was terrible. Would not visit again.

Dinner with a friend on Tuesday night was almost perfect. Grilled Ahi with baby bok choy and ranch mashed potatoes excellent. Often bok choy is tough but this was perfect, the potatoes creamy and well seasoned with just a bit of potato skin left in for texture, the tuna a perfect medium. My friend’s dinner was equally good with superb fried onion rings and crab cakes. We had carrot cake and lemoncello cake too. The carrot cake was reported as really good, the lemon cake a bit commercial tasting, not memorable. Our wait person was attentive, cheerful and helpful. Will definitely be back for more.

My husband and I went to the Hermitage Grill today and it was awful! I ordered a crab stuffed mushroom salad and my husband got the Taragon chicken salad melt. It took about 20 minutes to get our food and it WASNOT worth the wait. My mushroom was stuffed with fake crab meat and when I asked the server about it she told me it was real. There is a very different taste and texture between the two and I know the difference. It was a shame that they tried to pass it off as real and then were not truthful about it. My husbands chicken salad melt came with the wrong side item(no biggie) but the melt was obviously microwaved. Everything was soggy and tough. We paid $ 35 for a meal we hardly ate. We quietly paid. left and vowed never to go back.

My boyfriend and I go here fairly often since we live close. The food is pretty pricey, but we still to sandwiches and the appetizers. We love to sit out on the patio and have a few drinks. The waitresses remembered us and our usual drink’food orders after only a few visits. I recommend their roasted red pepper crab soup or the steamed shrimp with butter.

My husband and I decided to check out Hermitage Grill because it was close to home, and we were both surprised by both the offerings and the quality of food. We decided to share the Prime rib salad, which we later learned was termed«crack» salad because it seriously addictive! My husband ordered the rockfish tenders with sriracha mayonaise, and I ordered the tilapia veracruz. Both were delicious and what you would expect to pay considering the quality. Sides included homemade(with skins) mashed potatoes, fresh green beans(not crunchy-Thank God!), and coleslaw. Wow, we will be back again. I’m looking forward to drinks on the patio.

This is a teeny little hole in the wall restaurant that probably doesn’t seat more than 10 people, but boy is it tasty. The food is always good, and I love going local. The staff is friendly, and if you’re looking for a place to get a drink that you know no one will see you, this is the spot! My only complaint is the food is a little pricey. Worth going to if you are in the area and don’t want chain restaurant food.

I came here for lunch based on a suggestion by a client. I was thinking we might have stumbled upon a gem since it was away from the main roads and the usual chain restaurants. It’s a small place, with seating for about 30 people. The service was good. The problem was with my food. My coworkers ordered the BBQ plate, but I decided to go with the pizza special of the day. I thought a ham and peach and pepperjack cheese pizza was interesting and could taste good. It did not. Probably one of the worse tasting pizzas I’ve ever had. I would have been less disappointed if they microwaved one of those Mama Celeste pizzas and served it to me. I wished I had ordered the BBQ plate because that was supposedly good as both coworkers cleaned their plate.

Sunday we decided to head to Hermitage Grill for brunch. I got Sam’s cajun big breakfast which included dirty rice, spicy shrimp eggs, cheese grits and sweet cornbread. My husband got the sausage and gravy over Texas toast. So yummy. It’s this little gem tucked away in a lakeside neighborhood.

Eaten here a few times for dinner and haven’t been severely disappointed, but not wowed. The food is consistent(the mussels as an appetizer are delicious actually) and the service is consistent. Not much on the brunch menu catches my eye but their dinner menu and specials hold more promise. Couldn’t give the place 4 stars since I’m pretty sure they’re the only place in Richmond that doesn’t serve sweet tea…

This place has great potential, but sadly every time I visit, I am disappointed. Its a small neighborhood restaurant in Lakeside, but most of the time when I drive by it, it’s closed. I managed to catch it open twice, and was annoyed to find it cramped and dirty both times. My first trip featured unremarkable sandwiches, decent service and no frills. On my second trip I felt adventurous, so I ordered the prime rib and eggs at brunch. What arrived on my plate was not prime rib, but instead some other cut of beef(it appeared to be medallions of some sort). I sent it back, only to have the waitress return, telling me the chef assured her it was prime rib. And then when I asked for an order of something different(since I clearly was not getting the prime rib I had ordered from that chef) the waitress seemed put out! My friends ordered other brunch fare(eggs, toast, etc.) and found their eggs greasy and toast undercooked, so that pretty much sealed the deal for me, and I haven’t been back since. Overall– don’t waste your time at this place. There are plenty of other locally-owned restaurants that are 100 times better.
