I never write these things, but I Visited this location about 3 weeks ago with two friends on a Friday evening. We arrived at 6:45 and the restaurant seemed to be medium busy. Bartenders seemed a little clueless, but that wasn’t going to stop us from trying«the best burger in Richmond.» We ordered a plate of fried appetizers, and three burgers just as created on the menu, asking for all of them medium. We began to drink cocktails; after two a piece, we started wondering where at least the fried appetizer was. We looked around and saw another table who came in after us, already eating. We had to go up to the bar to order our next round — 3 beers. When I got back to the table, we were discussing what might be taking so long, so I looked at my phone to get an approximate time on when we ordered. It was around 7:15, now it was currently 8:25. I walked back up and asked about an ETA on the food and was told that the cook was new, and that they would have our fried stuff up in 10 – 15.(Doesn’t most fried bar food take 7 minutes max?!?) We declined and asked for our check. The saving grace was that they knew we had waited so long, they didn’t hassle us about paying for our food. We got in the car, called another restaurant in Carytown and placed a phone order and was able to walk into the bar, sit down and be served immediately, the same meals, in less than 20 minutes total. Seems like a bunch of drunk regulars hang out here. Typical Richmond dive with nothing to really offer other than watching the patrons go outside to smoke and making up funny conversations that they may be having with each other. Maybe if I get a couple of days off this summer, I will go back in there and try to have«The best burger in Richmond» because apparently it might take a couple of days.

Wow!!! Both my fiancé and I agree this place has great burgers!!! They were so good, i wanted to order one more burger. We got Medium rare burgers and they came out perfectly!!! For sure we are coming back to try other burgers on the menu. So glad we live 2 blocks from it. I think the burger bun also is a big factor to its success.

The Best burgers in town! I eat hear about once a week. I usually order a bacon cheeseburger with no mayo and add pepperonchini’s. The sausage dip is a gift from God + the service and regulars is very welcoming. A great classic American comfort treat in the heart of the concrete jungle.

Honey Whyte’s All American Café is the biggest pain in the ass to visit. On no less than 3 occasions I’ve gone here for lunch only to be greeted by a closed sign. However, it can’t be closed 24×7 and I’m glad to say I’ve been able to get lunch here TWICE! Let’s just get it out of the way. This is the best burger in Richmond. That’s my $ 0.02 cents. I’m not even talking about the fancier ones, I had the ordinary bacon cheeseburger and it was divine. This was back on October 16th2015. I thought maybe it was a dream so I went back and had the same bacon cheeseburger. It wasn’t a dream this burger is the bomb. If you can manage it — run; don’t walk, to Honey Whyte’s All American Café.

No doubt it is one of the best, no frills burger in RVA. 3⁄5 stars because the hours are not published and seem intentionally ambiguous to suit the owner’s(?) desires. Seriously, is there a definitive source for open/close times by day?

No doubt it is one of the best, no frills burger in RVA. Hours are absolutely terrible but definitely worth it when they’re open. Really chill bar to watch the whatever the big game is that day.

Meh. More of a bar than a restaurant. Sat at a table and the bartender/server was friendly and efficient. Her playlist was rocking. My boyfriend was belting out every word of the Run DMC, Biggie, and Salt n Pepa coming through the sound system, as were many other patrons. Décor was an after-thought, again more bar less restaurant. The menu was very limited. A meal consisting of a half pound burger($ 9), add bacon($ 1), generic french fries($ 2), and a Miller light($ 3) came to $ 17 pre tip. Call me cheap, but I think a $ 9 burger should come with fries if they are as basic as the ones being served last night. The burger was very large and extremely juicy though. Many places over cook a burger, but this burger was ordered medium rare and came out just as ordered. Don’t drive across town for this place, but since it’s a block from my apartment, I’m sure I’ll be back. Update: My Unilocal-less boyfriend went for happy hour yesterday and said the mixed drinks are only $ 2.50! Several regulars at the bar and the same friendly server/bartender.

This place probably has the best burger in town and it’s got pretty good competition nearby.

Food good but veeeeery slow. Strange smell of new paint and old smoke. «Pilly» napkins.

Wow had a great time last night when here. Think of its 1981 and you walked into a neighborhood bar(no I’m not old enough to have been in a bar in the early 80’s but I can imagine this would be it). From the décor to the music to the atmosphere. you just stepped back in time and it’s not a bad thing. People we dancing to some classic 70’s music. Bartenders were attentive and friendly. Though it has that decades old décor this place isn’t dirty. I have actually eaten here at lunch before and a great little place to eat(known for great burgers).

Do you love America? Of course you do, I can see the red, white and blue pumping through those beautiful veins of yours. Why else would you be looking at reviews of this fine Richmond establishment? Sit at the bar, order a beer and any burger, medium(keep it juicy), and enjoy. Oh, you’ve got the hunger of a Ypsilanti coal miner? Treat yourself, you beautiful bastard, and order french fries so good you’ll swear the rules of time were suspended and you were watching Cornwallis surrender at Yorktown.

I’ve sat at the bar a few times for a few hours and had great conversations with those around. They are always friendly here, and the bartenders are on point. nice place to relax and wind down.

Great french fries! Burgers have good flavor. Ordered MEDIUMRARE, the cook was good, but next time I’d like to try MEDIUM. This one wasn’t even very pink or red at medium rare, but for some reason the meat seemed like it would be better almost well done like how Five Guys does it(but don’t get me wrong, it is a step above that in quality)… Hard to explain, I just need to try it a different way to know how I like this particular burger.

Great burger with a small portion of fries for a reasonable price. The music was a tad loud.

Great place to have a drink and a burger. We ordered the breakfast burger(fried egg, bacon, cheese, tomato, lettuce, mayo) and the Heart attack(a burger between two grill cheese sandwiches) and they were amazing. The fries and onion rings were very flavorful as well. What makes this place is the staff… they have great personalities and make you feel like you are family… love this place… will go back!!!

GREAT burgers! Also had fried pickles. My girls had a grilled cheese and fries. All the food was 5 star worthy for this price. Our server, Aarin was terrific. Unfortunately, the décor, lighting and music were bad. I was there to eat, though, so I’m giving 4 stars for the exceptional burgers and service.

Good Burgers. That is the only food I have had there but it was really great. I had the black and blue cooked perfectly medium. Nice neighborhood bar atmosphere.

Honey Whyte’s is now my go-to place in the Shockoe/Church Hill area. My husband and I usually visit once a week and have a few drinks and some food. The place is very down-to-Earth, reasonably priced and the staff friendly. Their menu may seem run-of-the-mill but the food is way above average, so if you’re stopping in, definitely order something!

A delightful little lunch spot in Shockoe Bottom, Honey Whyte’s is known for their burgers and its dive bar ambience. My boyfriend and I decided to grab lunch here after reading some of the other reviews and hearing about these famous burgers. Upon entering, you’ll notice that the shop is fairly small and doesn’t try to be fancy… but that homestyle feel had a certain charm. Our waitress was very welcoming and, though she seemed to be the only one in the front of the house(working as hostess and bartender as well), she was very attentive. Overall, the food was pretty good for the price. The menu is pretty burger/sandwich-focused, so I would definitely try one of those options. Quarter pound burgers are $ 7 and Half pounders ring in at $ 9 and we ordered a Rodeo Burger, a Bleu Cheese Burger, and a starter of Mozzarella Sticks. The burgers were perfectly cooked to our liking and came with all the fixings(lettuce, onion, tomato, mayo, pickle). Though they appeared small on our massive white plates, they were actually pretty filling and definitely tasty. I’m not sure if it’s the«best» burger I’ve ever had, but it was a good lunch. The mozzarella sticks were also hot and tasty too(and they come five in an order). Definitely give this place a try if you’re in the area for lunch!

This is fast becoming my go to spot for a quick burger and a beer. It actually takes me less time to walk here than to drive to a McDonalds. Given some of the negative reviews, I would love to do a side by side comparison of the burger I get with the burgers that people are criticizing. I’ve been here a couple of times and my burgers have all been pretty freakin good. I’ve had the breakfast burger(fried egg, bacon, and cheese) and the bleu cheese burger. The breakfast burger was really good. Go at least half pound. The fried egg had a delicious runny yolk, just the way I like it. Unless I’m at a Jack in the Box(where they give me no choice on how I cook my burger), I go medium rare. My GI tract can take it and I think it’s worth the risk. I don’t understand how people order a burger well done. The bleu cheese burger was good too, but I will choose anything with an egg on it 9 times out of 10. Fries were meh. Service is good. This place accommodates the anti-social aspect of me. If I want to be left alone, I sit closest to the tv. The first time I rolled in, I chatted with some of the other patrons. I’ll be back. People are free to join me. I’m almost curious to see what other people are complaining about.

The food was amazing! I got the Ivy Mill burger and I did not regret it. The fries were really good and so were the mozzarella sticks. I got a side salad which did not disappoint. I got a Groupon deal which covered my meal. I am 100% satisfied and I will be back for more.

*** beer only*** So I sopped in here a few nights ago to unwind and have a couple beers. We didn’t eat anything, so I can’t judge that, plus I don’t eat meat… so not sure I’ll ever eat here since its a burger joint. Anyhow, the bartender was nice and attentive. Seemed like everyone inside knew each other. Décor is kind of weird, kind of like some of the divey bars in Chicago. A bit mismatched is all I can think to describe it. Since this place is within stumbling distance to my place, I imagine I’ll be rolling through here from time to time.

Honey Whyte’s exceeds all hype. I had two burgers one med rare and one med well, and they were both fantastic as was the staff. I also had a side of Asparagus which was also tasty. Both the Asparagus and the burgers were well seasoned. After eating two burgers and a pint of local lager I still wanted to have more burgers… which means I’m going to be stopping here again. Pro’s: Perfectly cooked Well Seasoned Soft tender bun Great staff Cold Beer Con’s: I don’t live need this place
