Sadly, Karl’s is no more. They closed April 30, 2015. We loved Karl’s and were loyal fans for years when they were at their old location on FM723. The food was always good and the service was top notch. I have no idea why they didn’t succeed at their new location. Anyway, this«review» is just to inform fellow Unilocalers. My wife and I will miss them. Note: I find it sadly humorous some of the negative posts about Karl’s. One poster stated the service was bad and she noticed it at several other tables. Hmm? She then stated she really enjoyed Karl’s before, but after a «bad» experience she wouldn’t return. EVERY restaurant has an off day. I’ve been to Perry’s Steakhouse several times and have had poor service and/or food on an occasion or two. One bad day doesn’t stop us from going to a restaurant we’ve been going to for years. As far as prices go. Karl’s was always very reasonable. More so than some other sit down restaurants we frequent. Another poster stated he thought they were having identity issues with being a German restaurant and not serving all German food. The poster went on to make suggestions for two German restaurants. Hmm? I noticed Kings Biergarten offers chicken wings and hamburgers on their menu. Rudi’s has teriyaki chicken, hamburgers, and Maryland crab cakes on their menu. I’ve gone to several German restaurants and they all have non-German dishes. I’ve gone to an Italian restaurant and had a ribeye and baked potato. I’ve seen Mexican restaurants with fried shrimp and hamburgers on their menu. I’ve gone to seafood restaurants and have seen chicken fried steak on their menu. In the food industry you have to cater to what the people want. Not every one in a dining party wants or desires a specialized food. People want variety. Goodbye Karl’s and good luck to all the employees.

Get the Grilled Porkchop, Pork Schnitzel, Chopped Steak! Kids Grilled Cheese with Bacon(bacon upon request) Heard alot about Karls so we gave it a try for our Saturday lunch. Had to fight the kids to try something other than Dennys. We ordered Grilled Porkchop, Pork Schnitzel, and Chopped Steak! The Grilled Porkchop was tender and seasoned perfectly. Not too salty. There was either a baked or fried apple on it that complimented it well. I had the Schnitzel which was real good and again well seasoned! We also got a Chopped Steak with Mushrooms. My kid devoured it and it was propably 1⁄3 to ½ lbs! The gravy was awesome! Now my other kid is kinda picky. I didnt see a Kids menu but saw a 3 Cheese and Bacon sandwich on the regular menu which i figured he can eat. However the waitress was awesome. She noticed he didnt have a kids menu. I saw grilled cheese on the kids and mentioned i was going to get him the 3 cheese with bacon. She said she can add bacon to the kids grilled cheese. What awesome service!!! My kid loved it. Normally he has leftovers, yes even a cheese sandwich, but he loved the Grilled Cheese with Bacon! He said he wants to come back! Kudos to the waitress and chef! We had a great experience!

On our way tonight to a nearby, standby seafood place we drive by Karl’s. Old friends have told us how good it is, but our fear was that because it had been around so long in it would be old school. Let me first say, the art work, and those who’ve been with Karl a while may be… but the food is not! I had the flounder with capers and crab meat with spinach and my husband had Chicken Robert. Both were inventive and wonderful! Seriously… The spinach was better then my favorite at Damien’s in Houston. Both came with salads and sides but still I expected the worst when we got the check Oh my gosh! We each had two glasses of wine, very filling dinners and came in at $ 85! We will be back to try some of the more exotic and German dishes they specialize in soon.

I had the bacon wrapped filet with rice pilaf and veggies. Everything tasted delicious! Steak was cooked just the way I asked(medium). Their crème brûlée was very good, small but good. I will be back soon! Great service, good food and nice atmosphere!

I have only eaten here once, and I was alone and sat at the bar. The bartender was very helpful in selecting a beer that I really enjoyed and he was very attentive. The food was good, a little high price-wise, but good. I hear the Sunday Brunch is worthwhile, so I hope to check that out soon.

We went for new year’s eve dinner. The menu was a fixed selection which was fine but the service was terrible. The waitress completely forgot our salads and our entrees were completely wrong. We ordered a ribeye with rice pilaf and veal schnitzel with spaetzel. We initially received prime rib with baked potato and schnitzel with pilaf. We sent it back and finally got a ribeye but the schnitzel was cold when it was brought back. We thought it might have just been us bit we observed 3 other tables had the same experience. Other tables could even get drink service. Sadly, this used to be a good restaurant but has really gone down hill since they changed location. We won’t be going back! Too expensive for poor service and mediocre good, no atmosphere.

The prices here are not cheep. But the quality was on par with the price. I ordered the Beef Wellington after seeing this on Hells Kitchen I just had to try it. I was not disappointed one bit. It was fork tender I did not need to use a knife to cut it. It was so flavorful I would order this again no doubt about it. The wife had a Karl’s Famous Knife & Fork Reuben served with FF. She has been looking for a good Reuben since we moved to Texas. Karl’s is now her only stop for Reubens. The aunt had the Wiener Schnitzel and she said its the best she has had since she left Germany. Also said she would only go here for it as well. The place over all was nice the wait staff are great. The price was on par with the quality of the food in short its not McDonald’s so expect to spend a bit of money. think our bill for 3 people was around $ 80 with drinks. So its not a once a week place to eat but maybe a once ever other month or so. We will return again as it was very very good.

Worth the drive, first time here and having a reservation was a good idea but for a Friday night there was ample space, no pressure on our party to hurry up and order. Menu was outstanding for adding a section on healthy dining. Wait staff 6 stars if we could give that to them. The bread even reminded me of soft pretzels, and bread is something I normally pass up, but you want to try it here. Cocktails made perfectly, seafood gumbo not overly sodium stricken, scallops with saffron rice superb, the asparagus was the icing on the cake and the chocolate cake was not shabby either. Others had German fare and liked the flavor and texture of their veal. Dinner for two $ 70, and worth it. Strip center setting only draw back, the place needs a wow factor, similar to the elegance of the Old Rainbo Lodge in years past. It was nice to not have background noise form piped in music, actually could talk with others at the table, big plus. Enjoyed sharing time with Karl and how he started is career. Will return.

Never ate at the old location but was aware of it. Stopped in some lunch. Lunch menu is reasonably priced. Friendly staff. Excellent club sandwich, bacon was big and crisp. Don’t know about dinner yet, but it hit the spot

So I’m very confused about this place! It’s a German restaurant that serves escargot burgers steaks and chicken Parmesan! This place is I’m really confused with its identity! When I asked the waiter what was best to eat here he said he didn’t know. The next waiter asked set the chicken Parmesan was the best! I finally had to ask are y’all actually a German restaurant, and if so where are your German foods? It was also funny how it’s a German restaurant that doesn’t have beer on draft! As far as the food and service it was alright! The servers, even though they didn’t know everything about the menu, were still very nice! Simple enough, if you’re looking for real German food I’d recommend to go to King’s Restaurant or Rudi Lechnars! Karl’s: if you’re Germany Then act German! If you want to serve continental like Epcot go to Disney World!

went to the old place a number of times… did not care for it… but thought would test this new location for lunch… what can it hurt? We had liver and onions… get a craving for it a couple of times a year… best we have ever had… cooked just right, no overcooked or too rare… service was excellent and their lunch prices are great… not a lot of lunch traffic due to their recent move… service was pleasant. not pushy … we will be back…

Plus 5 more stars! Karl’s is a complete dining experience and is the best in the Houston area. Tonight I had the stuffed artichokes, house salad and sea scallops(special). Everything was light and so flavorful! Perfect for a Houston summer. Perhaps the best part was that No one is hovering over you, waiting for you to finish and leave so they can refill the table. Instead, you are given a chance to enjoy each course, with time to talk in a relaxed atmosphere.

My wife and I visited Karl’s at the previous location 2 years ago and had seriously the best burger I have ever eaten. We were glad to hear through a friend that Karl had moved to a new location not too far away. Needless to say we arrived there that same evening and were not disappointed. The waitress was the same but the new venue is spacious, warm and inviting. The beers are excellent, and even though it was Friday Karl agreed to make us burgers off the menu. The bun was sweet and light, the bacon was perfect, and the burger patty was heavenly. JUST as it was 2 years before! Try the American burger and decide for yourself. One of these days I’ll do my best to eat something else. The menu is inspiring!

Nice restaurant with attentive waitstaff. Waitress did make a booboo when pouring the beer as the foam spilled over. We had the Wiener schnitzel which was crisp and tasty. I had the spaetzel which was very good and the veggies were very tasty with like a sweet glaze. Yummy!

Man oh man… I wanted this to be good, I really really did. I have been going to Karls for years as a child, I was so excited about this trip, I was SOOOOOO bummed when we left Had lunch there with some co-workers and we all had something different. The salads lacked. well, everything. The steak was OVER cooked, the monty cristo. was not a monty ctristo at all… non of the wait staff no how to make a drink, only the owner.(and that is onlly if it is in a book… what!!! How do you run a restaurant like that??? not to mention how in-experienced they all seemed) On that note… the meatball sub was fabulous and the schnitzel was good too! They should just stick with what they know and have fewer options so they dont make mistakes on such easy things like salads and monty cristo!!!

The staff was pleasant, but we waited entirely way too long to get our food(considering it wasn’t very busy). Some of our food was luke warm or cold by the time we got it and the food was not very flavorful at all. This place is EXTREMELY overpriced for the quality of the food. The protein was cooked well, but not seasoned at all. Let’s just say, we won’t be back anytime soon…

We have been fans of Karl’s for over 25 years(our wedding reception was held at his Quail Hollow Inn). His new location is cozy, not too fancy but definitely nice. I wasn’t blown away by the dinner salad. It was just romaine but the in house dressing was delicious. The entrée I chose was Wiener Schnitzel with spaetzle and fresh vegetables was fabulous. The portion was generous and cooked to perfection. It was a very busy Saturday evening and things were slow coming out of the kitchen. It was not a problem as my party of 6 was not in a hurry. Plan on taking your time to enjoy this fine dining.

Karls has always been good. They have the same food that they did before the move and I think they might have added more. My parents and I went for father’s day buffet. The food was hot and the people were very attentive. Love this place!

We use to visit the old location which we loved! So happy to hear they finally opened in Pecan Grove. The location is the only reason they aren’t getting 5 Stars. It’s in a strip center on the corner and completing different in that aspect from the old location. The food however is still the same great quality. We went for my mom’s birthday and started with the escargot. Nice and warm, garlic butter was delicious. They had a nice crawfish soup that was a little lacking on crawfish but otherwise tasty. I had the prime rib which was gigantic! I’ve never had prime rib on a bone not even at their other location. It was the biggest piece of meat I’ve ever seen! The sauce it is cooked in was fantastic but not so much as a leftover the next day. We love Karl’s even though the location is just«normal» now but the food is outstanding and wild game was delicious as well. Food is priced really well and you won’t be disappointed.

Gotta love Karl’s. It used to be Quail Hollow Inn 25 years ago in old downtown Richmond and then was Karl’s on the Riverbend on FM723 until 2 years ago. Now he is back on FM359. The ambiance and décor are not as cozy as when they were in the old home out on FM723 but it is not bad. The restaurant is in a newer strip center on 359. Everything is new and clean and freshly painted. The only complaint I have about the décor is that the large dining room in the back faces the parking lot and when a car pulls up in the front it is blinding. I expect they will put something opaque over the lower half of the glass eventually. Now about the food. I have been eating at Karl’s for over 25 years and he has, hands down, the best Wiener Schnitzel on the planet. The veal is tender enough to eat with a fork. Thin with a light brown gravy. It is delicious. The spatzel is also met in your mouth delicious. And their green beans almondine were also really really good. One thing about Karl’s is the consistency. I can count on the food being exactly what I expect. Service was also excellent. The waitress was attentive and the busboy kept our glasses and bread bowl full. Food was hot and there was no push to get us in and out. The young lady who seated us was also so nice and even visited with us later in the meal. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
