Mercurio’s Pizza

This is my family’s business, so I’m probably biased. It’s been years since I’ve had the pizza and the original owners, my great aunt and uncle, have since passed. Perhaps the recipe has changed over the years but from what I remember, this was darn good pizza! I can assure you that the original recipe called for fresh local ingredients and handmade crust. One of my favorite memories was tossing dough with my uncle and watching how they made everything from scratch. Uncle Matt & Aunt Annie put a lot of love into their food and the community. All these years later, I’m still running into people in both Chicago and Golden, CO who knew my aunt and uncle and their delicious pizza.

This is some damn fine pizza.
They serve it at the Moose Lodge across the street — my husband plays pool over there a lot and whenever we go, we get a pepperoni pizza.
It’s not the greatest pizza ever, but for Richmond, it’s pretty good.

As others have said Mercurio’s is good, not great.
You need to have them «split the cheese» so that they put some on top of the toppings otherwise a fair amount of your toppings will fall off.
The crust always seems a little chewy to me, that’s why I prefer the take and bakes so that I can get the crust nice and crispy.
They are generous with the toppings although none of the ingredients really standout as being of exceptionally high quality .
Sandwiches are pretty good, but my favorite thing to get is the Greek salad.
Its kinda hit or miss on the amount of feta they give you so I always order extra cheese on my salads.
I would eat there more often if they took plastic.
Until that day comes my Pizza dollars will get spent primarily at Pizza king and Red front.

I didn’t care much for this pizza, either. I think it’s one of those local phenoms that people grow up eating and develop a taste for it. We had these pizzas delivered to our office and I agree with Valerie R. that the toppings, while very generous in quantitiy, were not very fresh in quality. We had several different pizzas to choose from (I work in a huge office with about 25 staff members) and I tried three different kinds and overall it was just OK for me. I would not go out of my way to go here, but if we had another office party with this pizza, I would probably eat it.

I read all the great reviews and had high hopes for Mercurio’s. We ordered a 12″ deluxe for delivery. I thought the pizza was ok, but not the best I ever had. It could have used about 5 more minutes in the oven and was warm at best when delivered. I reheated in the oven the next day and enjoyed it more. Tons of toppings on a thin crust. I wish the toppings were fresh though instead of canned or previously frozen. They are open evenings Thursday to Saturday, take-​out or delivery. I could only find a menu on their Facebook page under «photos.» I think next time I’d try their take and bake pizza instead.

Having said that the hours are very odd, but that probably adds to the appeal of the place cause you can’t always get it! They have about 10 people working when I go in which is insane but hey they are busy busy. but you always have to make time for this place. The pizzas are piled with toppings that are all very delicious. I love banana peppers on my pizza and I don’t know where they get theirs but they are spectacular. You can actually buy a little container of them separate– genius!

My favorite pizza of all time. You can eat a large pizza and make an entire new pizza with the toppings that have fallen off of your first pizza. They’re only open 3 days a week, but whenever I’m in there it seems like they never have to worry about struggling for business. Super fast service as well. You can walk in, order an unbaked pizza, and walk out in less than 5 minutes.

I live 2000 miles away and still crave Mercurios and I always have it at least once whenever I’m in town. Been eating it since I was a kid. No question it’s the best pizza in Richmond. Maybe the whole country.

This is easily the nastiest pizza I have ever had in my life — and I’ve tried a lot of pizza. Frozen crust, disgusting sauce — I guess I just don’t get it. I was really disappointed.

When I lived in Richmond this was easily the best place to get pizza, but they had a weird schedule. They were closed at least a couple of nights a week. Excellent pizza, though.
