Very impressed. I went a few weeks ago, so I can’t remember exactly which sushi roll I got, but it was one of the $ 5 ones. It was bigger than expected and very tasty! I also got a bowl of the veggie soup, which was incredible! My friend got a specialty roll and let me tell you, that thing was HUGE… monstrous! I will definitely be back!

Came here with a big loud group and the waiter didn’t miss a thing. He was really attentive and always had our drinks full. The sushi didn’t blow my socks off but it was solid. Would definitely come here again if I was in Carytown and in the mood for sushi.

Due to its location in Cary Town, I was expecting good food from Moshi Moshi. However, they offered really low quality sushi and their rice had an overcooked, spongy texture – it just was not palatable. The special rolls were all more than $ 10 so it was just really disappointing to get such a poor product. I just felt like they paid no attention to the food they were putting out. Another pang with this place is that their service was extremely slow and inattentive. My group was placed outside on a really cold day so we got a little agitated when our waitress disappeared and all we wanted was the check. Overall, this was a really bad experience and I hope they improve their quality. Food: 1 Value: 1 Service: 1 Overall: 1

Moshi Moshi is my go-to sushi place in RVA. They have a pretty diverse menu that caters to sushi fans and sushi newbies alike. Everything from crazy fushion rolls that have asparagus and eel sauce to your basic California roll. Two of my personal favorites are the Lion Asia and the Crouching Tiger rolls. And whenever I feel a cold coming on, I immediately place a call for a carryout order of Moshi Moshi’s hot seafood soup. It tastes delish and will knock the virus right out of you! I’m a big fan of placing to-go orders with them(they almost always have the food ready within ten minutes of your call) but they also have one of the best patios in Carytown, and the service is always really great. I’m a fan!

Very disappointing. The sushi is overpriced for poor quality. I was most disappointed in the quality of the rice used in the rolls! It had the consistency of mush and was pretty unappetizing. I also ordered their calamari and was equally unimpressed. It was average at best. Not happy at all.

A pretty average fusion Asian restaurant. Everyone(meat eaters, sushi eaters, vegetarians) found things to eat and were moderately satisfied. Prices are OK. Place to go to in Carytown for a diverse group. There is an upstairs and a patio. Decent décor. Had loud dance music. Had the curry noodles with chicken and it was pretty decent, but not what I’d call gourmet. Waitress was very accommodating with our large group.

We tried this place in our search for the best sushi in Richmond, and although we enjoyed our meal here, it wasn’t the winner. However, this place deserves major credit for its atmosphere/décor/upscale-ness. Our go to sushi joints are kind of holes in the wall. Sushi quality is more important to me, but if you need ambiance with your fishies then maybe Moshi Moshi is your joint.

One of the worst sushi experiences I’ve ever had. I went with my two girlfriends last winter and will definitely not be returning. Since it’s situated in Carytown, the prices are much more expensive than your average sushi restaurant. The place was crowded(we did not have reservations) on a weekday for dinner so they sat us outside(when it was freezing cold). Service was slow and we were not attended to(probably because it was crowded and we were outside). The worst part was the rice, which was too dry and reminded me of grocery store sushi(but worse). I think that the only reason this place is still standing is because of it’s great location.

We’ve been here several times and have always enjoyed quick, friendly service and good food. The noodle dishes are fresh, with crisp veggies and not greasy. The fried dishes too are not greasy — they’re light and tasty not too salty. The décor/music is calming and a great place for a lunch. I think we’re gonna be regulars here…

how could a perfectly ripened avocado be made ANY better than as-is??? batter and deep fry the sucker! tempura avocado!!! YES! although the dish is on the bland side, it was still a treat to try! personally, i thought dipping the tempura in a little soy sauce was better than the creamy sauce it’s served with(which is a shock that i’d ever prefer anything over a creamy-sauce!). i think maybe it would be good to mix the avocado tempura with the other veggie tempura, for a bit of textural variety and so that one’s palate can’t take the avocado for granted! GREAT concept, but needs a bit of «contrast» added to the dish. Ginger fried rice with tofu– it actually tasted like the fried rice i make at home, so in a way, i was a little disappointed(if i go out, i want it to be better than i can make)– but at the same time, i was actually thrilled because i knew the waitress had been honest– no fish sauce/no oyster sauce/no shrimp paste… truly vegetarian! THIS is a shocker! The waitress was great(wish i had asked her name so i could applaud her properly here), and the restaurant was able, with no attitude, to accommodate my gluten-sensitive dining companion(they had wheat-free tamari sauce!). Was it mind-blowing? no. Am i a fan? yes! Would I go back? Definitely!

What I love… the four spoon sashimi appetizer with its tangy garlic cilantro dressing the freshness of the fish unfiltered sake my 10% off coupon What I like… good menu, a variety of rolls atmosphere option of sake by the carafe What I most assuredly did not like… the super loud girl at the bar(a few fewer sake bombs and if you are going to be so damned loud at least use your big girl voice) the sushi rice on the nigiri(bland, to me good sushi rice should have hint of sweet tartness to it) the general blandness of most of their rolls I’ll go back for sure, ’cause I have more coupons and I do like the atmosphere. But my expectations for the food isn’t super high.

We had dinner here and tried the vegetable tempura, a couple of the rolls and some sashimi. The food was good, the waitress was nice, and the décor was pleasant. It was a good experience, and we’d definitely go back.

Well, we went for lunch, but it was closed so we bummed around Cary Town for a few hours till dinner time. I am not sure what I was expecting, but I wasn’t all that impressed. My friend got the octopus salad which he really enjoyed. I got the Godzilla(katsu chicken with stir fry veggies and noodles) which came with a salad. The salad was ‘very’ small and appeared to be the bag variety. As if someone had just grabbed a handful of salad mixed and plopped it in a bowl before smothering it in dressing. Nothing too special there… iceberg lettuce(the hard crunchy core) a few slivers of carrot, and red cabbage. When the dinner came it looked alright. However, as I started to move my fork around the plate I realized that there were some crazy noodle physics or curved plate optical illusions going on. There were almost no noddles, two tiny pieces of katsu chicken, and some veggies. For $ 14 I would expect that each bite of my chicken could be lovingly swaddled in two to three noodles. This was not so much the case. It was as if the whole meal had been spread very thin in this concave plate in an effort to trick the consumer. As if we wouldn’t notice when we dug in that the whole dish was one noodle deep… Considering the cost of onions, potatoes, snow peas, mushrooms, and noodles $ 14 seemed a lot to pay for a little bit of food. The atmosphere was alright. We ended up eating down by the bar… The restaurant interior was pretty reminiscent of any other Cary Town eatery. Nothing too special there. However, definitely adding to the authenticity of the place were three Buddhist Monks that had also dined there that evening. Sadly, I imagine they are not part of the every day décor. All in all… I think this is definitely a lunch place. The dinner prices are just too much for what is offered. I might go back some time to try the sushi, they can keep Godzilla.

Richmond is not the city to get all uppity about sushi, you just won’t find the real deal. That being said, Moshi has great offerings. I loved their shrimp and strawberry salad, and their rolls will make you smile. Cocktails could use some work though. No idea why anyone would choose Sticky over this place.

This place is pretty good for Richmond. I haven’t been to Akida or Sumosan yet, so its tough to compare it relative to Richmond, Virginia standards. I ordered two rolls, which were decent. Also, ordered some sashimi, which seemed pretty good as well. Salmon lacked flavor because it was previously frozen. Ikura was suprisingly good. Price relative to size was not good for both sashimi and rolls. I liked the staff and the location cannot be beat!

Embarking on my search to find good sushi in Richmond has been daunting. After leaving my favorite sushi on the other coast, I have been craving large hunks of fresh fish and lots of UNI. Our waitress could not have done a better job… but she didn’t make the food. We ordered some sashimi and two rolls. Unfortunately, they were out of uni. The sashimi did not feel very fresh(maybe I am just getting used to eating sushi in 90 degree heat?) and the rolls had lots of filler, and less fish. The rice in the rolls seemed to have the wrong consistency. I am interested to try Akido and Sumo San. And to find some uni!

MMMMMMSUSHI. Great sushi place, even for those who don’t like sushi. Sushi seems to be one of those ‘love it or hate it’ kind of foods. If you are one of the people leaning towards hate, but are out with people who lean towards love, this is a place for you. Not only are there enough options on the menu to keep everyone happy, there are also some non sushi ‘rolls’ on the menu like ‘sweet potato rolls’ or ‘steak and asparagus rolls’ that are phenomenal.

I came here for dinner and left full and happy. I got tempura and a tuna roll. The tempura was perfectly crispy and they made my tuna roll special for me just how I like it with avocado. The tuna was fresh and in a large chunk, and the roll was very clean looking. It was exactly what i was looking for and was only $ 5.50. The bf got chicken fried rice and the spicy tuna roll. Both were good, the fried rice was extremely garlicky, but he didn’t think the spicy tuna roll was spicy enough. I like this place. Great service. The décor inside is gorgeous its kinda a mix between natural and modern, clean lines and bamboo everywhere. I’ve been back for take out and my only qualm is that they use imitation crab in the california rolls.

I went there for lunch a couple of months ago. The salmon roll was good but it doesn’t beat Umi’s sushi. The lunch items came with vegetable tempura which was perfectly fried. My friend ordered the tonkatsu and I tried a bit. It had a nice flavor but the pork was chewy. You couldn’t bite a piece off the pork slice, you just had to put the entire slice in your mouth. My chicken teriyaki was delicious, but I think I prefer the way they serve it at Sumosan-smaller pieces of chicken tossed with plenty of fresh veggies, topped with crispy noodles. I like the ambiance of Moshi Moshi more than Sumosan(run by the same guy). It seems a bit more classy and less diner-like. The lunch menu at Moshi Moshi is a pretty good deal. I think the bill was $ 30 with tax and tip and we left stuffed. I took a look at the dinner menu and entrees run about $ 20. Lunch is a better deal with entrees being $ 9-$ 12 including soup or salad, and veggie tempura. The food is high quality and fresh, the service is attentive and efficient, and the setting is nice.
