Some of the best fries in Richmond, made to order subs. Great lunch sport for carry out as not a lot of seating.

Lunchtime called and I had a decision to make. Having just read Dominic B’s Unilocal review of Penn Station convinced me to try this spot. I love a good Philadelphia Cheesesteak and once I walked thru the doors I was sure I was going to like everything about this place. The customer service is «on» as soon as you enter with a warm greeting by the staff. I went right to the counter and started ordering their main sub… The Philly Cheesesteak! I opted for the big 12 inch sub because of my hunger talking to me from within. I asked for my sub roll to be extra toasty and the said no problem they’ll send it through twice! Perfect!!! I helped myself to the Sweet Tea only to then discover they offer freshly squeezed lemonade! Oh well, next time I’ll get that! Within a few minutes they delivered my Philly Cheesesteak with fries to the table. I couldn’t wait to see what we have here! Awww Yeah… this is what I’m talking about! I knew instantly I’d be a regular here starting today. I loved the Cheesesteak! Not so crazy about the homemade fries(Boardwalk style) but at least I tried them. I noticed that a lot of the customers that coming in are obvious regulars because the staff knew them by name and even knew what subs they order. Repeat business is a great sign of a business doing good work. I am already planning my return to Penn Station… boom!

I occasionally go to Penn Station East Coast Subs for hot subs. I stopped by for a quick dinner this week. I’m always torn between their chicken Philly and cheesesteak. The cheesesteak won me over but PS chicken Philly is tasty as well. I got my cheesesteak fully loaded(sautéed onions, mushrooms, banana peppers, mayo, and spices). It’s one of my favorite chain cheesesteaks in RVA. The fresh cut fries are a winner as well. They come out hot and crispy(generous portion). Service is usually hit or miss. It’s parking available in a small lot. Penn Station is a good choice for hot subs. I give Penn Station East Coast Subs a 3.5 rating.

I really wanted to like this place, but I just can’t. I’ll start off by saying their orders of fries are huge. They literally dump a ton of fries in the bag. And the presentation of their food is really enticing, but for the majority of things that I tried, I just didn’t feel satisfied with the taste and even worse, the amount of meat. The legnths come in 6″ 8″ 10″ and 12″. What’s the point of having an 8″ and a 10″??? Just be like everyone else and have 6″ and 12″ or 6″ 9″ and 12″. Aside from the length, the few times that I’ve been there, they definitely skimped out on the meat. And to add to that, the prices are higher than most other delis and only one of their subs comes in a combo with a drink and side. This place really does have potential, but at the same time, they need to take a step back and focus on some of the basics. There’s way too many other delis in the area that offer more and have better prices. So with that said, I won’t be going back to Penn Station East Coast Subs.

I went out of my way to drive here for the grilled subs. Before waking in I thought it was a family run place but once I got here I realized that it’s just another franchise. The 8″ grilled chicken I ordered had nothing special about it, it was really really bland and 8″ wasn’t as big as I thought it would be. I could’ve made a better sub myself or for he price would’ve gotten a better tasting 12″ from Subway. Overall This franchise does not have a menu worth coming back for.

Meh. It’s whatever, but I am willing to give it another shot. As many other reviewers have said, the fries are very tasty. They are fresh cut and oh so yummy; however, I usually do not want fries to steal the show especially when I have a huge sandwich taking up a lot of the plate as well. So, I ordered the cheesesteak and boy was it bland! The meat lacked flavor. Not sure what kind of cheese they use, but I am pretty sure it was tasteless as well. On a positive note, the service was prompt and friendly.

Disappointed in my sandwich today. I ordered a Dagwood which I have on many occasions. On my order was banana peppers which were left off the sandwich and on the sandwich was oil and vinegar which I did not order. Not the first time the peppers have been left off, but the first time oil and vinegar was on it that didn’t belong. Only ate half the sandwich.

Both the hot and cold subs are good. My favorite is the chicken teriyaki. The bread is really good also.

I give the french fries 5 stars and the steak and cheese about a 3.8. Fries are hand cut from fresh taters. These amazing fries remind me of Thrashers fries on the boardwalk. You get an obscene amount of fries with a medium order. The steak and cheese was good, not amazing but better then average. I live 5 minutes away and the subs were soaked with grease when I got home. I wiped mine off with a paper towel and it was better. Good quality meat and decent french bread. I will say the subs are over priced but the fries are under priced so I guess it averages out.

Gosh — it was expensive — over $ 10.00 for a footlong Italian. It was good… not the best. I don’t like subway much, but I am not so sure the price differential is worth it. It is about the same as Jimmy Johns. I’d keep looking at other options.

Great sub’s and fries. All around good sub sandwiches, they have the standard fare and will customize. Service isn’t the fastest, but you can call ahead to save time. Fries are fresh and tasty lemonade is good, but I’ve had better cookies. Always friendly and never had any food problems here.

Great tasting subs and fries, decent portion sizes and prices. Just waited incredibly long for a simple sub, what made it worse is there wasn’t any line! Great place to go if you have time, however if you are on a lunch break then try somewhere more convenient.

I’ve read some complains about price, maybe a bit pricy but, damn its good. The philly cheese is good and the Italian is very good as well. The Fries outstanding.

Heaven on earth… until you get the check! WAY too expensive! I paid almost $ 13 for a foot long chicken Parmesan… crazy! Honestly though, taste makes it worth the price. Not going there every week though, can’t afford to!

My boyfriend and I tried this place for lunch for the first time. They have a nice variety of subs, but the majority are hot subs. Their fries are amazing.

I have had better, today marks the last time I will be going as the prices seem to have gone up, I got like no meat on my philly at all, the lemonaide tasted watered down, and I had to actually tell them to put out more medium lids. This time when I went, the bread was actually cooked longer and tasted so much better than before when it seemed like it was barly cooked and full of butter or something.

Pretty damn good subs. Mostly hot options, though. The corned beef on the Reuben was nice and lean, and the veggies on the club were fresh. Fries were hot and tasty. Overall, very satisfied with our visit.

I can’t help but love this place for… well, it’s quite simple, really. For its great subs. I feel like they have fresh ingredients. The bread for the subs is good. The subs are heated, with melted cheese. But you can always get a cold sub if you prefer. The fries are great. For some reason, they taste better than Five Guys fries. But I can’t figure out why. Maybe it’s just my personal preference. They also have fresh lemonade. I usually get the Italian sub. Every time I’ve gone there, the employees are always friendly and come by to check on how I’m enjoying everything. Drink refills are free, except for the lemonade.

Just good subs. No matter how you slice it, when it comes to subs, you have to have plenty of meat and fresh ingredients. They have both, and the result is a great sub. This would have been a 5-star rating, however, I do have one concern: cleanliness. On a couple different occasions, I have seen that they are not very clean — as far as how they handle food in conjunction with money and other items. As I said, that concerns me, but then, I am a clean freak. Still, I’m not dead, and the subs are fantastic. Dang it. Now I want a sub.
