The food is ok but the delivery service is really slow, they frequently make mistakes, and they never follow delivery instructions. I would order Italian elsewhere.

This place is usually amazing but last night we got delivery and I found a piece of string/rope in my piece of pizza(picture posted). I still recommend the cheese steaks at least.

This food was banging! I ordered it on grub hub and it said it could be delivered in about 45 minutes, which I expected for a Friday night. It arrived 25 minutes later steaming hot. So hot that I couldn’t eat the mozzarella sticks I ordered right away. I also got a sausage roll which was the perfect combination of melted cheese and spicy sausage. As my one friend would put it, it was an orgasm in my mouth.

I will not eat a cheese steak sub NOWHERE else. This is the best. The Italian sub is delicious also. The service is great and the owner gives back to the community.

Great food, delivered 15 minutes before the earliest estimated time right to our hotel door, friendly delivery guy, reasonably priced. Would give 4.5 stars if possible. Just wish we would have gotten napkins and maybe a few paper plates since delivered to a hotel. But I also didn’t think to request them when ordering. B

Con’s: The food was alright but overpriced for what it is. The sauce tasted like it was poured from a bottle of Prego, nothing special. The waitress commented that we were getting fresh oven baked bread but it came out without any oil or butter and cold. Pros: They did have excellent sparkling lemonade though.

The food is great, but everytime I order from here they ignore the delivery instructions. 4 stars if you don’t request delivery

Really good. Worth the $ 20 i spent getting the chicken parm + garlic bread size. Really didn’t need to get the side because it already comes with two nice pieces pieces of garlic bread. The side was four more pieces i pretty much ordered a whole loaf of bread. As high as I was i couldn’t finish half of what i got.

Sometimes you just need delivery pizza. You can’t help it. Everyone does from time to time. If you live in Richmond there’s no reason to order from a chain. Piccola’s is a VCU landmark. About a month ago we ordered a Piccola’s Special large pizza. Delivery time was reasonable. It was a little more expensive than Pizza Hut or Domino’s but totally worth it. The pizza was very big. Much bigger than we expected. Taste? Delicious!!! Worth the extra cost. Tonight, I ordered a Caprese salad and a slice of pizza for $ 18 including tip. Not a bargain, but it hit the spot. It was enough food for 2. I really just wanted the Caprese, but the pizza was so good last time, I couldn’t resist. At least it’ll be there for leftovers tomorrow!

Best cheesesteak in Richmond! Subs, slices & calzones all tried and true! Nothing fancy, just good!

Absolute worst pizza ive ever tasted. I got Hawaiian and the pineapples were dry and the ham was like bad sandwich ham, didn’t even taste the cheese and there was barely sauce. I asked for ranch and the guy who gave it to me looked so annoyed and weird and the ranch tasted gross and weird. Terrible experience will never go back.

The quality of this food has been declining for years now. 4 years ago, this was THE place to go for pizza and calzones. Now, it’s soggy, sad food with terrible customer service. Mozzarella sticks are soggy on the outside, but I at least enjoyed the cheese on the inside. Hence the generous 2 stars. And I know personally that working food service or customer service isn’t fun, but it’s part of your job. Customer service here is literally nonexistent. I wish I could give them another chance, but most likely, I won’t be coming back.

Tried the Hawaiian and the pepperoni. The pineapple on the Hawaiian was nasty, it was like it was from a can that had been sitting out for two days. The pepperoni was alright but I probably won’t be back.

As a food enthusiast… I really did not want to start my Unilocal account with a negative review but I just went to this place for dinner and became«insta-pissed.» I first want to start off by saying that I’ve been residing in Richmond, VA for close to a decade now and have been going to piccolas for about 6 years now. It’s actually been one of my favorite Italian eateries for sometime, but have seen a gradual decline in the quality of their food for sometime now and tonight just pushed me past the tipping point… so prepare yourself foodies for a genuine negative food rant. First lets talk about price, there pastas have always been pricey… but I really didn’t mind because of how awesome the food was. The portion size reflected the price as well and my go to has always been the chicken parmesan but tonight… the picture in itself will speak for how horrible this dish has become. There was maybe 3 bites worth of pasta in the whole thing, generous portion in chicken but what the chicken use to be[rich, not dry and not greasy] has turned into 4 frozen microwaved pieces of fried chicken they probably bought from Walmart. Not only did the chicken taste like rubber, there was an orange, yellow colored tomato«red sauce» poured over the chicken that just tasted and smelled like barf. The cheese wasn’t completely melted through and overall… to have paid $ 16.65 for this has left me feeling cheated. Not only has the food gone downhill, there customer service is practically non-existent. I truly hope and wish for the owner to read this or in themselves come together and turn this place around to what it used to be. Such a shame for this place to spiral down as it has… you’ve lost a very loyal customer and will not be returning to this place EVER again. Good Day

Delivery/Take-out Review My boyfriend and I did not feel like ordering from the nearby Dominos or Pizza Hut and opted for Piccola pizza. We did not regret it one bit! I am definitely moving away from chain pizza restaurants and to nice pizza joints like this one! Pizza was delivered quickly on a busy Saturday night. We ordered the NY Style Piccola Special with pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, green peppers & onions. Solid, delicious, pizza with plentiful topping. Not overwhelming greasy. Just pure meaty cheese goodness. I am definitely a fan! A little bit pricey at $ 20, but if I am going to indulge in pizza, it has to be a good pie! No skimping when it comes to food, right?

Come here for the pizza. I ordered a pizza and cheese fries the other night the other night and it was excellent. In the past, I have tried their other foods as well. Their subs are pretty good, their calzones are very good, their pastas aren’t the best, their wings are good, their bruschetta is very good. A lot of the bad reviews here are because of the pasta. But since this is really more a of pizza joint, I am just basing this mostly on the pizza. I got a «Piccola’s special pizza» which is basically a supreme pizza, with half prosciutto. The pizza was cooked perfectly and it was delivered hot. I’ve only tried 4 or 5 other pizza places in richmond, and this was definitely better than the others, but not the cheapest. I was most impressed by how much prosciutto the put on the pizza, if you buy prosciutto you know it’s not cheap, so I definitely got more than my money’s worth which I appreciate(you could say, they went *ham* with the prosciutto lol). The best value on the menu is the cheese fries, I always order them. They were very hot when delivered. They come with a tonnnns of cheese. The fries themselves are not the most crispy but that is because they have so much melted cheese on them. Basically a meal with in itself. If you get food from piccola, I recommend getting a pizza or a calzone, and maybe cheese fries or bruschetta as a side. Not everything on the menu is awesome, but those items always are. Much better than a lot of the other places in the area. edit: I saw a lot of the bad reviews are actually from delivery problems/pick up/customer service. I have gotten delivery and pick up over the past year and a half and have never had a problem.

How this little dive pizza joint has so many crappy reviews is beyond me. Perhaps the best tasting NY style pizza in Richmond… I’m on the fence if I like Mary Angelos more for dining in but for take out; delivery or grabbing a slice; really don’t think anyone can touch them.

I think an appropriate title here would be «Piccola’s vs. America». I went to VCU…4 years ago. This was my bad day/final exam/hungover/any excuse will do to eat pizza spot. Their NY style cheese pizza is unsurpassed. It’s crunchy, it’s greasy, it’s foldable. The cheese is just right, not too much, not too little. But by far, what makes this pizza great is that it doesn’t try to be anything it’s not. It’s NY style pizza, and that’s it. To put this in perspective, I’ve taken the liberty over the past few years to visit some of the neighborhood fan faves in each city I have lived in, and compare them to Piccola’s. Disclaimer: I excluded places with ‘gourmet’ pizza. Because who the hell cares. The Line-up. By City: Boulder, CO: Cosmos(L) Piccola’s(W) Beau Jo’s(L) Piccola’s(W) Chicago, IL(to keep this fair, I avoided spots specializing in deep dish. because deep dish is casserole, and we’re talking pizza here). Pizano’s(L) Piccola’s(W) Pizza Metro(L) Piccola’s(W) Piece Pizza(L) Piccola’s(W)(though this one required OT) Armitage(L) Piccola’s(W) Oakland, CA: LaneSplitter(L) Piccola’s(W)(another close call) Mr Pizza Man(L) Piccola’s(W) Hi Life(L) Piccola’s(W) Rotten City(L) Piccola’s(W) San Francisco, CA:(anddd we’re down to the Final Four) Goat Hill(L) Piccola’s(W) Mythic(L) Piccola’s(W) Escape from NY(L) Piccola’s(W) Chicos(L) Piccola’s(W) Piccola’s. Undefeated. Unsurpassed. Untouchable. With love from San Francisco!

If you’re a VCU student looking for a quick/good lunch with a beer(like me) or in the mood for something heartier in terms of Italian fare, this is a suitable choice. The pizza is decent, though if you’re the kind of person who dabs at their pizza to remove grease, you’ll be here for a while if you catch my drift. I’ve had their Italian fare as well and it is pretty average(I’ve worked at two Italian restaurants, so I have some basis for comparison here) though it will work if you’re looking to get full and have dreams of bathing in marinara sauce. Service is average as well. TV usually has Italian programming and/or sports on. Overall, pretty average on all counts.(Though cheap Peroni is awesome!) Overall: 2.5 stars — — — Pros: –CHEAPBEER, cheap GOOD beer! A pint of Peroni was only about $ 3 here, and that’s a darn good deal for a darn good draft! Other beers were well-priced, though really, why would you get a domestic at an Italian place? :-P Cons: –Slices are a bit on the pricey side($ 2.62 a slice plus toppings), so if you’re the kind of person who usually has two big slices and a drink(aka me), a lunch will set you back more than $ 8. If you’re a non-beer person, there are cheaper/more filling places to have lunch. –Seating is booths with wooden benches. Numb butts may be a consequence.
