Roscoe’s Coffee Bar and Tap Room

Great options for lattes and very affordable! I haven’t had their food yet but it looks delicious. The vibe is open and a great place to work in the morning or hang out with friends in the evening. I’ve had multiple good experiences and would recommend this place to everyone!

I love going here! The atmosphere is super chill and it’s one of the small businesses that helps keep Richmond alive. People from all walks of life come here and it’s a really interesting place to have some coffee or beer.

My fiancé and I are from Indianapolis, and stopped into Roscoe’s last Saturday evening after a trip to the Warm Glow Candle Store. I had read good things and was already excited to try it, and when we walked in it turned out that they were having an art auction a few hours later and until the auction started they had free wine! That’s the kind of surprise I love! We had some wine, each got a flight of beer, and we shared a basket of chips and hummus. I wanted to try the «banilla» ice cream, but we wanted to try another place for dinner so we headed out. Would definitely come back and try more things though!

An absolute treat! We were looking for dinner after 12 hours of driving with more to go and picked this charming place. Warm and welcoming people, delicious sandwiches, and a great «living room» vibe in the back with armchairs and board games.
The pastrami and Mediterranean sandwiches were both really good — fresh, flavorful, and well-​priced. I wish we could have stayed longer and tried a beer as the draft selection looked really good.
Anyone passing by on 70 should absolutely take the detour and go here.

Roscoe’s is an absolute GEM. Amazing coffee selection, great food (that changes from time to time), the craft beer selection, the ambiance, the warmth of the staff. I’m living here for the next month-​or-​so & can almost guarantee I will be here every day in that time. The atmosphere & seating is so great, & during my temporary tenure in Richmond, I am BEYOND ecstatic to know I can come here & relax while still having opportunity to socialize & learn more about this community.

Their beers are awesome. And they rotate. I love the relaxed ambiance, too. An excellent place to eat some nachos and chill over a beer.

If you’re a traveler who likes to catch the local vibe and have a personal experience then this is a great spot. Yes it’s not a fast experience but it’s worth it to have a fresh meal and support local business owners. Besides, when you see that this place offers coffee AND craft beer you are compelled to try it. The front room is a brightly lit retro café style room, but in back is a full on lounge area equipped with mix and match sofas and lounge chairs. With the café is a separately owned ice cream parlor with fresh made cones.

I frequent Richmond, Indiana be user it is the half way point for my boyfriend and I to meet. Roscoe’s has become a staple when we are in Richmond. I absolutely love the coffee, local beer and food as well as ice cream now! The atmosphere is relaxed as there are comfy couches in the back to chill. There are people normally studying, catching up having a drink or playing board games that Roscoe’s offer (one of my favorite parts!). I really love this gem in historic Richmond!

Cool atmosphere and to hang out. Don’t sit next to computer unless you want to be recorded on their facebook page. Had a bad experience with one employee who didn’t want to make my coffee my way but insisted on his way and it was awful. The couches look kinda dirty and I personally wouldn’t sit there. I love the brick walls and local artist themes but need to switch every once in awhile.

Good coffee and a creative coffee/​smoothie/​frappé menu in an interesting part of Richmond. The sandwiches are also well above average.
I was introduced to this place while they are in the process of renovation. They have plans to team up with an excellent ice cream and milk chain. Great combo!

I love this place! It’s so cozy inside and they make wonderful drinks, and great food! So happy a friend introduced me to this place! I visit every time I’m in town!
Also, they serve beer. If that doesn’t convince you to visit this place, I don’t know what will!

But seriously the coffee was delicious, organic, and CHEAP! The atmosphere is awesome and the little historic street it sits on is pretty damn cool.

I love this place! The workers are wonderful and the food is great. They also always have a great selection of localish craft brews and wines. (The brown county blackberry wine and port are my faves). There are couches and board games and sometimes live entertainment. I walk here for lunch and during the week and I’m in and out in 30 minutes with a few book chapters under my belt to boot! Yes there are high school students and hipsters around, but Richmond has adopted this place for everyone, meaning I’ve also seen equal amounts moms, families, and business people. Their drinks are just as good as Starbucks and they will personalize them if you tell them what you want. LOVE THIS PLACE!!!

An amazing little coffee shop and bar in Richmond. The bartender was knowledgable. Great for families, college students and cyclists. For cyclists, it’s open on Sundays, near the path, and they offer a 5% discount for riding your bike.
While some people in this area may take this as a negative, I could easily see this coffee shop doing well in downtown Chicago or Indy. Great place to sit and read the paper.

Pretty much the best place to hang out in Richmond. It’s a great blend between a coffee shop and a bar. The food isn’t restaurant quality, but it’s more than the standard bagels and muffins.
I’m a sucker for their beer flights. $ 4.50 for a selection of four delicious craft beers is hard to turn down. Especially when their selections change on a regular basis.
The atmosphere is relaxed and low key. Maybe not the place for a romantic evening, but great for studying, chatting or relaxing with friends.

I expected this place to be full of hipsters and students (or hipstents?) with bad service and so-​so food, delivered slowly. I was surprised to find that it’s actually quite worthwhile.
It was my first time here. I had not really seen inside the building when I passed it initially. I’ve mentioned in the past that the family wouldn’t go to this part of town unless it was train-​related. Since the train doesn’t stop at the depot any longer, you can imagine how long that was. Even then, we left quickly because trouble could come quickly. That changed with Sylvania’s down the block.
It’s good to see this area being used, and people enjoying the various stores and restaurants.
There were three people at the register when I walked up to the counter, and I had no clue since this was the first time. I needed some time with the menu, and the man suggested that I look at the menu to the right, on the wall.
I ordered the Ham and Cheddar Panini on Pretzel Bun with a water. I have been looking for Roast Beef or Pastrami Paninis, but I guess I won’t find them away from the coasts. I seem to remember $ 6.45 for the sandwich and the side item, which was Tomato Tortellini. That’s cheaper than Panera Bread or a number of other places.
The food came and the side item, the Tomato Tortellini Soup was merely so-​so. It tasted like a premium Campbell’s soup fixed up with a couple tortellini added. It could have used some seasoning. The panini was quite good, on the other hand. The portion was not small but appropriate for the price. I probably could have skipped the soup and still felt full. Even with the plastic basket and bakery sheet, it was presented nicely.
After finishing the food, I went back for a White Mocha Raspberry. I really didn’t think they’d have something I’d like, so this was as pleasant surprise. The drink was smooth but thankfully, not overly sweet.
Afterwards, I took a walk to see the back of the restaurant, and there is a large, open area for performances. The building’s look isn’t endearing to me, but it’s not off-​putting either. I was pleased to see them put out a small ramp and open the doors wide for some people in wheelchairs.
The people made the difference in the experience, and they did a good job with the food. I’m sure I’ll return sometime.
I’ve returned a couple of times. The staff is always pleasant and willing to take time with me, to get things right. The Ham and Cheddar Panini is consistently good. The pickle and kettle-​cooked chips are also. I didn’t ask about the oil used to fry them. I’m allergic to peanut oil but I didn’t have a tingling sensation nor shortness of breath, so they must have been fried in something else.
The Mocha Frappucino was as good as I’ve had anywhere.
I still like the food options at Tim Horton’s better but Tim’s coffee and tea are miserable, despite what the Canadians must get instead. I’d trade the hummus at Roscoe’s for some roast beef or pastrami, but they serve what they serve and do it well.

I’ve been putting off writing an update for more than a year now hoping that the service would get better here, but it’s just not happening.
So, I feel you fine people should know exactly what to expect when coming to Roscoe’s.
First of all, this is a very fun hangout. Great atmosphere, live music, fun menu, etc. If you’re looking for a fun place in town to just hang out an socialize, this is the place to go.
However, if you’re on any sort of time limit, don’t bother ordering anything. Be prepared to wait, and wait, and wait if you want coffee or a sandwich. I came in to grab coffee with 2 people in front of me the other night, and waited 35 minutes total in line and waiting for my drink. I’ve also been here on 3 separate occasions where they completely forgot to make the food I ordered. I love visiting this place, but I seriously worry how they will keep their doors open if they can’t keep up with orders.

Great food, great lattes/​coffees, and they have couches were you can just chill in and board games to play with your friends or family. On certain nights they also have live bands. The best thing is everyone’s nice! If you come here a lot make sure you grab a punch card, that way after 10 drinks you get a free coffee, espresso, latte or smoothie:) and all around great independent store.

Finally, my hometown has a viable hangout spot! Went to Roscoe’s recently on one of my infrequent visits back to R-​town. I was pleased to see someone is willing to take on the Starbucks/​Timmy Ho’s racket that somehow managed to run every other independent shop out of town a few years ago.
I think the easiest review I can give is that Roscoe’s would more than hold its own out here in the coffee mecca of the Pacific Northwest. Hopefully Richmond will be able to appreciate that and help this business thrive! The atmosphere is trendy/​kitschy without being forced. Traditional café up front, more relaxed seating in the back room. Big stack of boardgames inviting you to get comfortable and stay for a while. Nice art on the walls and local crafts (some upon which a bird has been put) for sale… so very Portland of them. =)
As far as foodstuffs, I did not have food or beer so I can only review the coffee. And the coffee is just that… real coffee! Something you can enjoy black. Proper grind, proper brew, nuanced flavor that let you know you were drinking an Ethiopian bean. Very refreshing. The server was friendly and knowledgeable not only about the coffee, but about all the products being served and the business as a whole.
I don’t visit Richmond often, but I can honestly say that whether the next visit is 3 month or 3 years from now, I hope Roscoe’s is still there going strong.

— Atmosphere: 4 stars. High ceilings, exposed brick, really cool seating in the back. Could use some fun vintage posters or paintings on the walls, though.
— Food: 4 stars. Very tasty… I’ve had the Edward Mueller both times. I’m down with anything that offers fresh mozzarella as an ingredient. and I love the option of having hummus and corn chips instead of the typical potato chips and pickle.
— Service: 2 stars. Kind of slow. And the hipsters that work there are a little more interested in checking their smartphones and chatting with each other than being friendly with customers. You get the feeling you’re bothering them with your presence.
— Prices: 2 stars. The sandwiches are a bit on the small side for the cost (between $ 8 and $ 9), and the specialty drink prices are through the roof.
— Beer: 0 stars, because they didn’t have any yet. The guy behind the counter said that they were still in the process of obtaining their liquor license. I don’t know why you’d open up a tap room with nothing on tap, but whatever.
Average out those numbers on the ol’ cackylater… 2.4. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and round up to 3. Basically, if you’re okay with shuckin’ out some clams for a sandwich and chips, you won’t be disappointed.
