Ok so I’m updating my review — I was already a fan of this place but I love it even more after my recent experience. I contacted them a few days after my visit via email about the chair that was discontinued to see if they would be willing to help me out with the price because it was discontinued, I didn’t like the fabric on it, but it was very plush and comfy for my office chair and I hadn’t found anything in the similar look that I liked as much. So I asked if they would be willing to discount it for me and help me make it not such a big cost since I was going to have to reupholster it anyway for my space and the look I was going for. The owner, Mike, contacted me back the same day with a generous discount off the discontinued chair and an offer to ship it to me — I called and spoke to him over the phone the next day and he ended up shipping it to me instead of delivery(as I live in Virginia Beach and they’re located in Richmond on Cary St.) to save with cost. I paid over the phone via credit card and about 3 business days later the chair arrived in a huge box, wrapped and packaged very carefully and in pristine condition. Mike really went above and beyond to try to help me get what I wanted and get it at a good price. He and his team were very friendly and helpful and I couldn’t say enough great things about my experience with them both in store and over the phone and email. Ashley, the gal who helped me in the store the first time, was also fabulous and included a little handwritten note about meeting me and hoping I enjoyed my purchase. It was a nice touch. This will be a go-to place for me whenever I am in Richmond(which is usually every 2 – 3 months) and be looking for cute new items to decorate or when I need a specific piece of furniture. Good customer service is more and more rare every day and at Ruth and Ollie, they hit it out of the park.

Wow, so I went in here today as I was at the ATM that is conveniently in the side of their building… ha ha… and I really was drawn in by the beautiful windows. I must admit I walked in with the expectation of everything being super expensive, which was entirely not true. The shop is very clean and I would say it reflects what is «on trend» now as far as interior décor goes. I have to say I was delighted and surprised by the lamp selection and prices as well as the overhead fixtures. There are some great pieces that err along the lines of being Hollywood Regency or even Mid Century inspired, which is nice to see. I especially liked the plaster animal heads that were mounted to the walls. They were all reasonably priced and would make a great housewarming gift. They are made in Haiti and you can order them in a rainbow of colors as well. The upholstered furniture is by the company Mitchell/Gold and they had some amazing pieces. Furniture fabrics can be selected in store as well. A great addition to Carytown for you design freaks!

This has long been a favorite of RIchmond designers and furniture fashionistas. While a lot of the stuff is a bit too contemporary for my tastes, I occasionally find something to lust over like a $ 2000 slipper chair or a pair of turquoise foo dogs. All of the stuff is fab, and if you’re into mid-century modern, you’ll think you’re in heaven… designed by Eames of course. They have great lamps and hanging fixtures here, as well as a wide range of accessories ranging from Jonathan Adler pieces to the aforementioned blue dogs. It’s pretty pricey, but it’s always fun to browse.
