Everything is authentic, hand made and delicious. Check out the well worn tortilla press behind the counter. Everything is reasonably priced with huge portions. I’ve been here twice so far and Shelly herself has been here everytime! Cooking, bringing food, checking on you. She’s great, always with a warm welcoming smile and a «Holà» when you walk in. They have two TVs which always seem to have a soccer game playing. What’s not to love? Come on in on Tuesday and have $ 1 tacos, or hell any other day of the week! Tell Shelly Jefe el plomero says hi!

I am a gringo but the food sure seems authentic to me. freshly prepared, from scratch. friendly and efficient service semi-pornographic Hispanic music videos blare from screens pricing is very reasonable, particularly so, if you go with the special of the day. guac is excellent house hot sauce(ask for it), has a nice smoky character this is authentic as it gets in RVA

I really wanted to like this place. I moved here 10 years ago from Northern California and have been searching ever since I got here for Mexican food like I am used to eating. Everyone was very nice. There was a little mix up with my order which they quickly fixed(in hindsite should have been concerned about this). I took my order to go and I don’t live far. I got home, and my food was ice cold. Well, one exception was the papusas, they were piping hot and I loved the salad that went on top. My tostadas and beans and rice however were cold. I had to heat up the beans and rice in the microwave but couldn’t with the tostadas. One other disapointment was the amount of fat and gristle in the carne asada. That may be more of my personal preference but fair warning if it is something that you don’t like. Even with the food being cold, I will say the flavors were exactly what I have been looking for. I will probably try them again at some point but I wil need a little time to recover from this visit.

Best Latin food in Richmond area. I am often the only non-Spanish speaker in this popular destination. You have a great look into the kitchen, where home-made soups and bones simmer on the stove. I’ve been three times, and look forward to exploring the entire menu!

Tasty and authentic! Handmade fresh tortillas :) It’s always a good sign when I am the only gringo in the house. I’ll be headed back soon to try more dishes.

I walked in today(Tuesday) and they told me there was a taco special so I ordered the tacos. They were very good and priced very nicely. I never really noticed this place and it’s literally like three minutes away from my house. I’m used to having tomato on tacos and sour cream but they accommodated my sour cream request and I didn’t realize there were no tomatoes until I got home. Anyway, still very good food. Found a place to have«Taco Tuesday».

If you are simply in the mood for fresh, authentic, extremely flavorful Mexican food cooked to near perfection, this is your place. In a small shopping center and very basic décor(appears to be a former small diner) with just a few tables but who cares, the food is the star attraction here. Fresh everything cooked in plain sight on the grill a few feet from you. If I were rating this exclusively on the ‘this is really good’ factor of the food, I would have given 5 stars. But really needs at least a beer and wine license. Excellent service from the waitress. Service with a smile!

You JUST have to «Love» Mom & Pop Restaurants as they Love to see you come and they fix Excellent food on top of it. I noticed Shelly’s Mexican Food has been open now for a couple of months, and I have been wanting to stop in. I am glad I did yesterday. I have frequent many small Restaurants around Richmond, and to my much surprise, I was greeted by the Lady who does the cooking. She use to work at another Mexican Restaurant where I frequent many times on W. Broad St. I felt like I was having a Homecoming… I ordered 3 Tacos with the Corn Tortillas, which I like more as they have MORE flavor… I had a Chicken, Beef and Pork Taco… When the plate came out, it was NOT just 3 Tacos… It has Spanish Rice and Beans on the plate. Plus the Tacos had Avocados which you do not see too often. AND they bought me out Fresh Homemade Chips and Salsa… All of this for under $ 10. What a great deal and the food was excellent and cooked to perfection. AND, I left FULL! In fact, I told a friend of mine about Shelly’s and we are heading back there today for lunch as the food is THAT good. So, if you get a chance, drop in and try their food. The Mom & Pop Restaurants are the best and this is certainly one of my Favorites Now… :-)

I have been here about three times now and I really love the papusas. I have yet to try the other food. Everyone here seems nice and they seem to have a steady business. The place is well worn, but generally clean overall. One of these days I have to try other items!

Very dirty restuarant, as soon as I went in I lost my appetite. Owner has a bad attitude and makes you feel like she doesn’t want to be there nor wants anybody there. Food is not that good. I’ve tried better. Will not be back!

This place has been open a week and a day. I had a pork burrito and a cheese pupusa and was stuffed. All the food seems homemade. The pupusa was nice and cheesy, and grilled. The burrito was huge. I was late for lunch and very hungery and it totally filled me up. The décor and signs are totally handmade. They have tables and a counter with stools. I personally like the counter option when I eat alone. Super fast service. I haven’t talked about the food much. It was hot and tasty. I think if I had gotten something else I might be in a better position to judge. It was at least as good as Chipolte and about the lower price. I felt good enough about it ton think I’d come back when iI was not starving and rushed and be more adventurous. So far so good. Nine bucks for lunch before tip. I No beer just sodas. Also they are open for breakfast. A guy was putting sign up as I left. They post specials on Facebook page.
